Cross River Animal Hospital

I have been taking my pets to Cross River Animal Hospital since 1995 for good reason. I trust them most with my pets lives and general well being. Dr. Mayland is caring, honest, a great surgeon, stays up to date on the most current medicine, and is just a wonderful person. His staff is friendly, efficient, and loving. I am so thankful for all they have done for the pet friends in our lives.

What a great find. My feline had a tumor on her head, one of the bad kinds.I didn’t think traditional surgery would have been worth it for a variety of reasons, eg., her advanced age, general anaesthesia, recovery limitations). Read about CO2 Lasers for tumours. I couldn’t find anyplace in NYC that did it (but there may be), but I did find Cross River Animal Hospital which is less than an hour from the city. Dr. Mayland and staff are great…very smart and very kind. The Doctor explained everything about the procedure and post-procedure expectations clearly. He was eager to answer my gazillion questions. He was able to use local anaesthesia which made a huge difference…she was happy and without complaints as soon as laser surgery was finished, which wasn’t very long.Pricing was fair and clearly explained. Would recommend highly.

I highly recommend Dr. Maynard to look after your pets health. He is an excellent diagnostician. He does not over medicate, nor does over test. He takes his time, does his research, and speaks to colleagues in order to come up with the best form of care for your pet. I have the utmost trust is his recommendations. I am very grateful to dr. Maynard and his team for turning my dogs health around in a short amount of time.

We are new customers to Cross River Animal Hospital and were concerned at first bringing our pup to a new place (for daycare) since she is rather shy around new people. Everyone at Cross River is friendly and they took great care. Sasha warmed up to the staff and really enjoys her stay here! We got to tour the facility and it was clean, organized, and plenty of outdoor space for the dogs to run around. They group like-size dogs together for playtime which is perfect for our pup. Well be bringing Sasha around more! Attached is a pic for the dog tax.

This was our 1st visit to Cross River Animal Hospital, as my regular vet was booked and couldnt see my cat, who I suspected had a urinary blockage, for a Saturday morning emergency.I found Dr. Mayland to be very concerned, personable, knowledgeable, compassionate, and patient, spending the time to talk with me outside, explaining Waffles situation and the necessary treatment. When I was expecting a basic exam, I learned that the doctor did a catheterization to flush out as many of the urinary crystals causing the blockage.I was given antibiotics and special food to give the cat and was told to monitor him. Dr. Mayland called me twice the next day, which was a Sunday (when he had company) to see how Waffles was doing. He told me to bring him in the next day so a nurse could feel his bladder to ascertain his current condition. The next day when they brought the cat back out to me, I was told the doctor was there and did another catheterization. It was then recommended to me that the cat be hospitalized for a few days so the treatment could continue. Dr. Mayland made sure that Waffles care was first and foremost. He even came in on his day off to tend to the cat.Having had cats 51 of my 58 years, I have never seen a vet take such initiative in a plan of care. Dr. Mayland made me feel my cat was his most important patient, and that he was going to do what would benefit Waffles most, because letting an animal suffer is never an option.I highly recommend this practice. From the bottom of my heart I thank this kind and compassionate vet for going over and above in taking such excellent care of my sweet cat. His actions have spoken louder than words.His staff is lovely. Kind receptionists who called to check up on Waffles, and gentle nurses who lovingly assist in calming nervous pets. The office is very clean, nicely situated outside, and is easily accessible on Rt. 35 with plenty of parking.

As new pet owners to 2 new kittens the staff and Dr. Mayland couldnt be better. They have been able to answer all my questions and offer lots of great advice and support. The Dr. called us to check up on the kittens after our first visit and was so kind and caring.

I love this place and the people! Even though I moved, I will continue to bring them my dog. Domino for care. In fact, I owe Domino still being with me to them:While he was with my daughter in South Carolina, he got out of the house. A neighbor found him and called Cross River. whos number was on his vaccination tag, Cross River called my Cell, and we were able to sort this all out and reunite him with my daughter. Thanks !!

We’ve been taking our dog here since he was a pup. We’re very happy with them and so is our dog! He’s always excited for a vet visit and/or kennel boarding. Everyone on the team has show great care and professionalism. I wish their pricing was better, but I guess you pay a premium for great service and care for your pup!

Dr. Mayland is a great vet and his staff is friendly, professional and they truly love animals. I have a two year old English bulldog who gets treated like a superstar when she comes in for her visits. Highly recommend this place.

I have been looking to get my dogs teeth cleaned, and I am so glad that I found Cross River Animal Hospital via a recommendation. This is one of very few locations in the area that does non-anesthetic dental cleaning, and they did a really great job for my dog. The staff was very warm and welcoming towards me and my dog. I would highly recommend this animal hospital and know that we will be back!

Dr. Maryland and staff have been taking care of our dog and cat for years. He once saved our dog’s life. Our dog is so comfortable there. We board him there too and always have a great and affordable experience. He loves everyone there and they always go out of their way to ensure he is comfortable. Will be forever grateful for the care and compassion Dr. Mayland and his staff took in removing a lacrosse ball size tumor off of our 12 year old Nellie. Dr Mayland is a true animal lover, and he is careful not to over prescribe antibiotics and neurotoxins unless absolutely necessary. He regularly attends conferences to stay up on the latest vet practices and discoveries. He takes the time to discuss issues by phone and is dedicated to his work and his team, and vice versa. Ive also boarded my dog there and they seem to do a good job. I highly recommend him to care for both dogs and cats.

We have been bringing our 2 shih tzus to Dr. Maynard for about 6 years now. They handle everything for us. They even Handle all of our grooming needs. Recently we had an emergency visit as our Benjamin was having problems walking, we believe due to multiple bouts with Lymes disease. He could barely walk and it came on out of nowhere, They saw him and offered a treatment plan after a full review including x-rays. Our little guy is showing early signs of improvement and we are hopeful for a full recovery. This morning the doc called to follow up on Benjamins progress. I was shocked my own doctor never called to follow up with me. If you want to put the care of your pet and family member with the best care possible then you want to go to Cross River animal hospital. They ALL love what they do and it shows. God bless them all. we would never trust anyone else.

We are very happy with the care and attention our cats and dogs receive here. Dr. Mayland is always so thorough and attentive without going to the extreme. Our dogs especially enjoy boarding and daycare because they get to play ball on the wonderful property. Dr. Mayland and his staff at Cross River Animal Hospital provide the best veterinary service weve ever received.Dr. Mayland is fantastic, very knowledgeable and experienced. Weve never had a vet as compassionate and invested in the care of our cats, nor as honest and approachable when discussing their health. One of our cats has a difficult chronic illness, and we greatly appreciate that Dr Mayland has always approached it with an eye not just at treatment but at providing the best possible quality of life.Likewise the rest of the staff are always friendly and kind and professional.Scheduling is always easy, weve never had to wait more than 1-3 days for an appointment.They also provide a low-cost boarding service. Weve used it a couple times to look after our cat and have been very happy with it.

We had a great experience at Cross River Animal Hospital. While traveling from VT we noticed our puppy started to have a terrible cough. Chung got us in very very last minute as a new patient, and helped us get our records from our out of state vet in a fast manner. Dr. M was very efficient and knowledgeable, and we felt very confident in his diagnosis. The vet techs were sweet and helpful. Definitely recommend!

Cross River Animal Hospital is the absolute best in the area! The staff is so attentive, caring, knowledgeable, and kind. I was able to get a last minute appointment for my dog right away, and they took amazing care of him! So much so that he didnt want to leave the office at the end of the appointment. Great COVID safety measures in place as well, we felt very safe. Cannot recommend enough!

My yorkshire terrier needed a tooth removal. Cross River Animal Hospital and Dr. Mayland always consider the safety and necessity of surgery, only wanting to perform surgery if they know 1) the dog really needs it and 2) it will be safe for the dog. My family has been coming to Dr Mayland for over 20 years. Without a doubt he is the most caring, kind, and knowledgeable vet we have ever had. Over the years we have had several dogs, and Dr Mayland has treated them all with the best care possible. A few years ago, our French Bulldog choked on a piece of a chew bone, the bone became logged in her throat, it was during the holidays and Dr Mayland was not scheduled to come in, however hearing of our emergency situation, he, without hesitation, came in and performed a very difficult surgery and successfully removed the bone without any complications. Our Frenchie is now almost 10, and healthy and well, all due to Dr Mayland. Currently we have an older dog who is suffering from age related illnesses, and again, Dr Mayland’s expertise is a blessing to keep our dog as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. One of the added advantages of seeing Dr Mayland is that he does anesthesia free dental cleaning which is very safe for the pet, and also extremely affordable for the client. We are so fortunate to know Dr Mayland, and grateful to have our pets under his care.

Cross River Animal Hospital has been part of my two dogs lives throughout every stage- from puppyhood to old age and now to puppyhood again. The staff has been incredibly supportive through it all. Because we regularly use daycare, my dogs love going to see them. I am always positive that they genuinely care for my furry children!!

My Lab, Hudson, has a disability with his front leg not mobile. The staff attends to him with so much care and professionalism, which makes his visits easier. Everywhere we go, people are astounded when we tell them how old our 15 year old Jack Russell is. We have Dr Mayland and his staff to thank for Roccos continued youth and vigor. Since moving up to North Salem in 2010, Dr Mayland has been Roccos primary care physician and it has made a world of difference in our aging pal. Dr Mayland is kind and compassionate and does not believe in overmedicating animals. He encouraged me, and I resisted at first, to cook Roccos meals for him and what a difference it has made! Great Vet! Great Staff! As soon as my dog hears me greet Chong over the phone he starts to wiggle. We have two bulldogs one with severe allergies. Staff is always so willing and ready to help us through a flare up with our 11yr old fur baby. So happy we found them!

When I brought home our calico kitty, Luna, from the shelter, I committed to providing her with the best that I could afford. I never expected that at three years old, she would develop a life-threatening condition with tumors up and down her underbelly. Dr. Mayland and the staff of Cross River Animal Hospital were immediately responsive and supportive, offering to take Luna in right away and explaining in detail to me the pros and cons of my options. I would not have been able to afford the expense of the major surgery she required, had they not also offered a generous payment plan to cover my costs for the operation, convalescent care, and medications she received while in their expert care. Dr. Mayland and his staff continue to provide care and advice for Luna as she recovers and I am eternally grateful!

Dr. Mayland was the first vet of four my cat has seen in her 8 years to determine that her overgrooming and orneriness is a result of a hormone deficiency caused by being spayed. He prescribed a hormone supplement and her life has completely turned around for the better! No more pulling out her fur, no more scabbing, no more swatting at everyone. I’m so grateful for his attention, knowledge, and care.

When we first found Cross River we were new to the area. Our Shih Tzu Benjamin is part of our family and a little over a year old. We had used a topical Flea & Tick product that actually wound up poisoning him. Recommended by Pet Smart Dont trust them they just do not know better. We needed to get Benjamin to a Vet! our Happy friend was cowering and crawling instead of jumping and running we were in a complete panic . Not one but Several local Vets wanted between $175- $250 just for an office visit not including the treatment. Dr. Mayland told us to bring him right in. He showed more concern for Benjamin than he did the bill. He explained that these toxic Topical applications are poisonous, and introduced us to all Natural Organic treatments. He also went over Diet and feeding. We trust them with Benjamin and even bring him there for Grooming. Ashley does a great job, and all of the ladies in the office are a pleasure to deal with. When we pull up Benjamin runs to the front door. As a fellow Businessman sometimes its about building a relationship not just a sale. If you are looking for a place to feel like you are more than just a phone number, than look no further.

EXCELLENT ALL AROUND! First time visit to Dr. Mayland for my two Labs Lucie and Maizie. Just a routine office visit for exams and shots. Dr. Mayland and his staff were very friendly and responsive. We will be back!

My dog had a very difficult dental health issue. It required the removal of an appreciable number of teeth. Dr. Mayland assessed the situation, explained it well, and proceeded to conduct the surgery necessary to address the problems. The dog has been doing very well since.

Dr. Mayland was extremely compassionate when taking care of Toby. He helped comfort Toby through his sickness. He is very knowledgable and explains everything with great detail. The hospital is clean and has a welcoming vibe.

The doctor is really good but not the rest of the staff. They hurt my cat while grooming, I had to insist that they pay attention to the pictures I emailed to them so they could see the open wound. They prescribed some meds and they tried to charge $30 for it. I didn’t care about the money but the whole situation, not too mention the pain of my cat.

Weve been coming to them for 13 years, the attention is great. Very friendly and most importantly they take good care of my dog. They are very professional with their work and know what they are doing. Definitely recommend this animal hospital !

Horrible and very dangerous place to entrust safety and care of your loved one! Only concern offered at this place is their bottom line. Animals are Wharehouse like merchandise as opposed to beloved family members. Chung will knowingly accept 50 animals there with barely enough space to adequately house 20. Its abusive and uncaring and adding insult to injury, they charge you these ridiculously high prices for it ( more often than not you’re paying for services your loved one never receives).

HereThere are no words to say how wonderful this place is, There are no words to say how Allison Jeffrey Kate With the animals and with the clients I see the way they are they talk to them they get to know them And they also get to know the clients and the return clients and their pets I see how the pets are they know exactly where theyre going and who theyre gonna be with .A beautiful touching place it feels like home the way they treat them and the doctor I have to say he has compassion understanding and he also is very straight up telling you if theres a problem with your pets And one thing I notice about him if theres something he doesnt understand I notice he does research and he checks and makes sure in double checks the same thing with Kate. kate is very compassionate with the dogs, she concentrates with the grooming and everything she is so level-headed when it comes to things like that. Allison is amazing the way she has compassion to everyone and the pets she has contact with.Jeffrey the same thing he has a beautifulheart. Truly There are no words to really say anymore to this except that I have to say its a clean beautiful caring a wonderful place and I hope that it continues on for another 40 years

Have been looking for a vet to perform frequent teeth cleaning…without anesthesia and blood tests required by other vets. All services here have been thoughtful and well handled by the staff.

I agree with previous posters; Ms. Chung, the receptionist, is rude, exorbitant unauthorized add ons are the rule, not the exception; in several years there I never actually saw the vet. Never going back.

Not only is the team knowledgeable and respectful, but also they treat our pup as if he were their own! We always know we will receive quality care, and treats!

The staff is always very helpful and pleasant! Dr. got my dog Ollie on a great diet that cured his stomach and bowel issues, he quickly gained back the weight that he had lost. Now he’s doing wonderfully! I also take Ollie monthly for various grooming. He’s a nervous dog, and they take the extra time with him. Highly recommend!

Incredibly poor pricing transparency. I never knew what I was getting into when it was time to pay a bill as unauthorized add ons is the norm there. This happened far too many times and I had enough and will never return.

Dr Mayland has been taking care of Our dog for many years. He is very kind and caring and our dogs not even nervous when he’s there. He once saved his life and we use the hospital for boarding and the staff is very helpful.

Cross River Animal hospital is a family run business with great customer service and care. The dr. and all staff members accepted our cat at the last minute. They were kind, welcoming and knowledgeable. Our cat was happy throughout his care and stay with them. Both the dr. and office staff take time to communicate and listen to your concerns. Highly recommend!

Just moved to North Salem and I was thrilled to find Cross River Animal Hospital for my 3 dogs.They have welcomed us with opened arms and have been treating one of my pups torn ACL with laser. could not be happierAlso great grooming.Check them out !

Dr Mayland & The Cross River Animal Hospital staff are fantastic. We had a startling emergency situation with our cat & were on the way to an emergency care facility when we drove past Cross River & took a chance that they could fit us in. Unlike some vets who advertise emergency access open to all Cross River provided that to us. They took her in immediately for observation & initial treatment, we were kept informed by the staff & Dr day of as well as many follow up conversations. That kind of dialogue is invaluable! The attention of Dr Mayland & his whole practice to treat what is happening but also dig deeper than usual & find out why is really comforting & the “whole-istic” approach really works~ diet change, a desire to not over prescribe & over medicate , a seemingly very real interest in exploring different points of view & really meaningful conversations ongoing between us, Dr Mayland & his staff have lead to quality of life being restored for our dear cat ( & us in off the ledge!) & a trusting ongoing relationship with Cross River Animal Hospital.Kate, the tech has also been spectacular, a super professional, reassuring & very kind beacon for us during this tough time too! Chung in the front office also so reassuring & comforting & so pleasant! ( & everyone else who helped us but we didn’t meet you) We look forward to years of normal visits but when the fur was flying & the chips were down they pulled us all through with flying colors! !They’re just really good!
