Barksville Inn is a wonderful alternative to “traditional” boarding facilities. They provide a Home Sweet Home environment for your dog. We needed a place with flexible hours for a cross country transport pick up. Most facilities in the area were not able to meet the pick up time criteria of our transport service…except for Barksville Inn! They have early and late pick hours and a staff member is on site 24/7. We did a dry run two weeks before our move with a 4 day stay. Drop off can be chaotic and I recommend communicating all requests and inquiries prior to drop off because you will be greeted by Kevin and the entire pack upon arrival. We had time to spend, so hanging out and allowing our dog and the others to settle allowed for conversation before our departure. The welcome committee is 100% on task so plan for that. Kevin provided text and photo updates while we were away. Pick up was easy as well. We texted our ETA and once again just before arrival. This is helpful for them to have your pup ready to go. Kevin was in contact with us prior to our cross country move. He accommodated all our requests for our pet and aided in preparing her for her transport. The move was a success and he even kept in touch to ensure our dog and family made it to our new home safely. Kevin and his team were gracious and kind every step of the way. Barksville Inn is a casual “at home” operation. They are a growing family business and have improvements coming up which should make things even better for Barksville in the near future. Plan a visit and see for yourself! Boarding your pup doesn’t have to be cold and lonely. Barksville allows for couch cuddling, freedom to roam inside and out, friends to play with anytime! Thank you Kevin!***adding photos we received via text from Barksville Inn during her stay.
The best!! We drove up from NYC to bring leave our two dogs with Kevin for two months this spring, and had the most wonderful experience with their service. We never had to worry about our dogs, knowing they were well taken care of because Kevin sent us consistent updates, and it gave us the peace of mind to enjoy our trip. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the puppies were having a good time. I’m convinced our dogs were truly depressed to leave Barksville. We will, without a doubt be leaving our dogs with Kevin for our next vacation. Thanks Kevin!!!
We brought our dogs in for a meet and greet and then a second time before our trip so our dogs would do okay at the Barksville Inn. The owner, Kevin, said we were okay to leave our dogs during Thanksgiving week. The day before our trip, we dropped the dogs off. My bigger dog ran up to the lady that was there and let her pet him. She was calm and my dog was calm. Very friendly. There was another employee (male) that my bigger dog was barking at because he was a stranger. My dog barks at strangers until he knows that person is trustworthy and safe to be around. This man kept yelling at me to get my dog out and they couldn’t watch him. I was trying to explain something to him but he cut me off and kept yelling telling me he didn’t care and claimed my dog “almost bit him.” Which he didn’t. This unacceptable customer service and very unprofessional. Our Thanksgiving trip was cancelled.
Kevin and David are not your usual dog sitter, they are completely committed to making your pup feel right at home and loving them as their own. They are very accommodating to your specific needs for your dogs and great at communicating so both you and your dog can relax while you are away. We received updates with pictures. Milo and Murphy were so excited to see us, but exhausted from all the fun they had. Hands down the best dog sitting experience. The Barksville Inn is the perfect place for our boys when we can’t take them on vacation with us.
Kevin and crew do a wonderful job with caring for my pup. I have an elderly dog and he loves going to Barksville. Weve used Barksville for a few years and look forward to more visits in the future.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Kevin and David were able to accommodate our 8 month old puppy on very short notice and were incredibly pleasant to work with. They kept us updated throughout the day with texts and pictures of our boy, and we felt assured that he was in good hands. The dogs are allowed to roam free outdoors and indoors which allowed our pup to get his energy out rather than sit in a kennel. We will definitely be leaving our boy with the Barksville Inn anytime we are in town! ☺️
The Barksville Inn cares for my two Australian shepherds whenever I need dog boarding. My dogs always love going here and are well exercised by the time I come to pick them up. Kevin and David do a great job and I always feel my dogs are well taken care of. The Barksville Inn is a fantastic kennel free boarding place that I recommend to anyone.
Had a family emergency and couldn’t take my wife’s little guy. The Barksville Inn were quick to respond to my boarding request, let me drop him off late as we were heading out and sent regular text updates which really help calm my wife. Not having Lucky in a kennel with many other dogs, locked in a cage wire kennel was important to us and the Inn was a great find. Highly Recommend.
The best place for your pup! Kevin and David are awesome and our dog, Ozzy, gets so excited to stay there. I love that he gets to run around with other dogs, sleep where he wants, and gets tons of love and attention. So much better than having him stay in a kennel. We even left him there for 18 days over the summer and never had a concern. We got almost daily updates and pics. The price is also very reasonable and their flexibility with pickup and drop off is very generous!
The Barksville Inn saved my day when I had to make a last minute trip back to home out of the US during the holiday season, when multiple boarding places I contacted were totally filled up. Not only I was lucky to find a place with vacancy at this busy time, but it also turned out I could not have chosen a better place for my two pups, especially with one of them requiring special care. One of my pups is a rescue from a hoarding situation, who is very timid and nervous with new places, people, and dogs in general, but also is terrified being left alone, and needs daily medication. Given the situation described I was so worried about leaving my pups for the trip, but the caregivers at the Barksville Inn listened to all my detailed instructions patiently and tentatively, and assured me that they would take good care of the pups while I was gone. Thanks to their flexibility with the drop off schedule, I sent in the pups earlier than my actual travel date to make sure everything would go smoothly. When I paid a visit after a couple of days, I gladly found both pups settled in very well. The home environment was perfect for my two pups, with the more social one making friends and playing with other dogs there, and the timid one feeling safe and sleeping in a heated blanket on the couch. During my one month of travel, it’s especially heartwarming to receive picture and video updates of the two pups playing or snuggling with one of the caregivers. It was such a relief that I had chosen the Barksville Inn for my two pups, so I could leave without any concern, knowing that they were well taken care of!
Kevin and David, the owners of The Barksville Inn, are lovely people. I have been taking my dogs (two rescues, 60lbs and 40lbs) to Barksville for several years now - my dogs go to doggie daycare once a week and I board my dogs at Barksville whenever Im leaving town (including a 3 week stay). My dogs love being there, are excited when they arrive, and tired from playing all day when I pick them up. Kevin and David keep the dogs in the house and yard - the dogs have constant access to the outdoors - there are no crates or cages. It can be a bit rough and tumble on days when there are more dogs, so it might not be right for every dog (or every dog owner) but we love it. It is obvious that David and Kevin truly love the dogs and that makes a huge difference - this place is like leaving your dogs with a good friend who knows and loves your pets. I highly recommend following Daves instructions on how to acclimate your dog to the environment - he really knows how to help new dogs get acclimated. One of my dogs is a bit high maintenance and took longer to adjust to the new environment, but Dave was super patient and sweet with my dog, and helped me understand what my dog needed to feel at home - now, of course, both of my dogs love being at Dave and Kevins and cant wait to get there. Trust Daves judgment, hell let you know how to make the dog feel at home.
A cage-free home where Pet CPR & First Aid trained Innkeepers provide round-the-clock supervision. Forget the kennel and give your pup their own vacation.
The owners of the barksville inn screwed us over for our vacation. We had a meet and greet and I confirmed with them multiple times that we were able to bring our dogs for the week but upon arrival, which was an hour and a half drive for us, they told us that they were over booked. Leaving us with no place to bring our dogs for our vacation. This is such a poor way to conduct a business and dispite trying to reach out to Kevin for an explanation he never reached out to explain or apologize. If you need a place that is reliable this is not it.
I recently booked our dog for a 5 night stay and communicated with Kevin via both email and text. We arranged a meet and greet, and when I pulled up Kevins partner came outside and stated they are completely full and will not be able to take our dog. This would be a nightmare to have this happen at drop-off, so Im grateful we had a few days notice but was still left scrambling to find other care on short notice. I understand they are in the process of moving and was told Kevin is in denial and keeps booking clients despite their inability to take more than 5 dogs at a time. I hate to give a bad rating as they may be amazing with dogs (per their prior reviews), but this is absolutely no way to run a business or build trust. I felt others should be warned as this could ruin a vacation and there are a few other reviewers on here who had this happen. I hope they get a successful business back up and running at their new location but I will likely never go back based on this incident.
David and Kevin took great care of our 1 year old puppy! We loved their cage/crate-free approach and it was easy to tell that they are both great with dogs. There’s a large yard for the dogs to play and A/C inside for keeping cool in the summer. The dogs get to sleep wherever they want inside the house. They texted us photos and videos almost every day. Our dog has some special needs and they took really good care of her.Our dog had a great time and we would highly recommend the Barksville Inn 😀
They backed out of our reservation with no warning when we arrived to drop off our dog despite my partner speaking with Kevin on the phone 30 minutes prior to that to confirm everything. They did not call to give us this bad news and, instead, told us that they could not take our dog when we arrived to drop him off while enroute to our destination. This was very unprofessional and almost forced us to cancel our trip. They did do a good job on another visit there before, so two stars instead of one, but I recommend that you look for other places due to their unreliability in actually being able to board your dog when they say that they can.
David and Kevin are two of the kindest people I have ever met. They have watched our two dogs for the past year and half on a weekly basis and spent weeks while we could not take them on vacation. The entire experience from keeping us posted with pictures, taking them on walks and not being locked up in crates has made all the difference. We know our dogs are always in good hands when we drop them off. They go there happy and come home happy and tired. We feel very lucky to have them. 👍👍
The Barksville Inn is like a second home for my boys. I cant imagine taking them anywhere else. Kevin and David are the absolute best! They even take the time to text pictures so we can see how the dogs are doing while we are away. No cages, no kennels, just comfy dog beds, couches, and friends (both canine and human).
The guys did a great job with our 20 lb cockapoo Franklin. He was responsive, accommodating of several changes to our trips schedule and sent us several updates throughout our dogs stay with him. Zeus, Trooper and Toby were also excellent hosts. I would recommend booking stays with Gary & Kevin to anyone!
My German Shorthaired Pointer cannot contain her joy every time we pull up for drop off. And when I pick her up she is always in a happy, peaceful headspace! Kevin and co and the best of the best- sending pics and videos all the time complete with detailed updates about her and how she’s doing. I trust them with my doggy! :)
Our 2 dogs recently stayed at the Barksville Inn and we immediately signed them up for more! They sent us daily pictures and texts which made us feel so comfortable. The whole experience was easy and enjoyable for us and the dogs.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful!!I had to board my dog for an impromptu trip, it was very short notice and the Barksville Inn got back to me right away!! My dog can be somewhat antisocial but he had a great time! We were sent updates and I felt totally comfortable leaving my dog there. Absolutely great place! Fully recommend!!!
Our Frenchie “Mila” loves her stays at the Barksville Inn! We are always happy to receive her photo updates while we are away!
This was the perfect fit for our doodles. they came home so tired! 😆 and they were SO EXCITED to go back the second time. We will reach out in the future, for sure.
Agreed via text to board our 2 dogs, then ghosted us.
Our two dogs have been Barksville guests for over three years now. They are once-a-week daycare guests and overnights throughout the year ranging from 1 night to 10. The reasons we keep coming back are Kevin and David. They genuinely love our dogs and our dogs love them. The pups know when it is Barksville Day and get very excited to go. The biggest benefit to me, is they no longer get anxious when the see the suitcases coming out, and theres no struggle getting them in the car to leave for an overnight. Our one dog used to freak out. This stress has been totally eliminated. I love knowing that they are in great care and get free roam of a house versus being locked in a kennel. I really dont know what we would do without Barksville at this point.
Absolutely great place t9 bring my dogs. They love Kevin!
Really nice place and our dog had a lot of fun.
Great location
