Shake and Tail Dog Grooming

Took my schnauzer here for the first time. He was overdue for a groom and had lots of mats so I thought he might have to get fully shaved. My dog is also a bit nervous and anxious at the groomer, so I was unsure how his first time would be. Robert was not only able to give my dog a beautiful cut and keep a lot of his fur, but he also made my dog feel so comfortable and loved! I was so happy to see how Robert treated my pup. And when I came to pick him up, he looked so happy! He wasn’t kept in a crate- he was just sitting in the room with the groomers and dogs and looked so content. I will never be going to a different groomer! Shake and Tail is the best!

I really appreciate how gentle he is with Maya. She has naturally long, moppy hair that everything sticks to. I ask for short neat cut to allow time to grow out in between grooms. I adopted Maya from a dv shelter and Maya carries some traumas and responds well to gentleness and this groomer is attuned to the animals ❤️ Does good work and works in a way that is calm/balanced/zen… More than other groomers, and I’ve been to many. Thank you

Roberto is awesome! I took my puppy because she needed her ears & paws cleaned/groomed. He was very gentle and she felt very comfortable with him.

BEWARE IF YOUR DOG HAS SPECIAL NEEDS. Called ahead to ask about getting my ELDERLY dogs nails clipped and made the person I spoke to aware that she is mildly aggressive towards people/other dogs. I was told over the phone that this would NOT be an issue as long as the nail trimming process wasnt *too difficult*. The story changed when I got there and the groomer had 2 large dogs in the grooming area (one of which was roaming freely) and he refused to move either of the dogs so that my MUZZLED ELDERLY dog could have her nails trimmed. (A process that takes about 5min) Over the phone I was not told there would be free roaming dogs even though I was clear about my dogs needs. I understand that my dogs behavior is my responsibility, but these people had me walk 16 blocks in 80⁰ weather with an old, tired dog when they could have EASILY told me they have a VERY SMALL location and isolation from other dogs during the nail clipping would not be possible. To top it off the guy was borderline RUDE, no apology and no consideration. I would NOT bring any animal to a place that lies to you over the phone and then dismisses you with the level of inconsideration and callousness I experienced.

I LOVE Shake & Tail. Robert genuinely loves animals, very knowledgeable, professional, helpful, kind, & timely, I never have to wait and my dogs are always beautiful & impeccably groomed!!I have been coming here with my 2 babies, Bella & Lola for several years now, I have been to groomers all over the city and would NEVER go anywhere else.My dogs are happy to either go in for a grooming or just stop by to say hello.Thank you guys!

Just dont go there please! Worst experience. Overcharged me (changed the price he sent me on text and after service), like he sent me text it will be $100 and after service even without asking me, increased the price to 130 and told me I could be paid 180 easily. complained a lot and tried to teach me what to do (I was surprised and he was so rude, so I didnt know what to say and just accepted the price). expensive and even forgot to cut one nail so that is still long - need to go petco again for that. Annoying. Wont go there ever again just will go to petco half the price and reliable service

I absolutely love this place. We have been taking our dog here consistently for over a year now and I have never been so happy with a groomer ever. Robert does an amazing job and my dog (who’s normally quite anxious) is always happy and content when I go to pick him up. I can not recommend this place enough - they truly care so much about all the pups and I am just so happy I found them!

I was recommended to bring my 8 month old poochon puppy to Robert through a few dog mama friends. I was in love with how their dogs looked and they couldn’t stop raving about how much they love Robert! I totally see why! He is so nice, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable and I felt so much trust after i dropped her off. Highly recommend!

I never write reviews but had such a great experience so here I go!I have taken my dog here twice. She is an especially rowdy pomeranian puppy with lots of energy and loves to roll around on our rugs which causes pretty bad knots behind her ears. Both times, she came back silky smooth with absolutely no knots!The owner is super friendly and fun with my dog - you can tell he absolutely loves his job and animals. My puppy loves going there too, she doesnt even get sad watching me go.Definitely recommend for anyone in the surrounding area and beyond!

Robert did a great job with my little 5 lbs poodle mix, Elle. I moved to NYC last month and the groomer I was using back in Chicago was one my family had gone to for 3 dogs and 20 years! Needless to say I was nervous to find a new one! Robert listened to my preferences and also took Elle’s comfort and safety into account. I really like that it’s just him in the shop so my dog isn’t stressed hearing other dogs bark, nor was she ever waiting to be groomed in a cage. Robert finished right when he said he would (90 mins) and Elle didn’t seem to be upset at all with the last hour and a half of her life! I think she looks great and is super soft and fluffy. She looks like a cloud! Robert is right around the corner from me and he is one of the more affordable groomers in the area if you don’t want to go to PetCo (which I didn’t) so I was glad to give him a try after seeing he opened up this year. For any other nervous doggy parents out there: Robert is the right place to go!

Shake and Tail did such an amazing job with my dog Kobe, he looks amazing! Kobe was a little nervous coming in because he hates getting groomed, but Robert was incredible with him. Robert calmed him down right away and was so gentle and kind. 100% recommend coming here and will be back next time we need any grooming.

Robert did an amazing job with my mini goldendoodle! Prices are in line with the area, the grooming took about 2.5 hours, and the facilities were clean. Robert did a very thorough job brushing out all the mats and clipping him— he looks great. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a groomer in the area.

I hadnt taken my dog for grooming since March and he was definitely in need of some TLC! Maury is a super shy dog but warmed up to Robert quickly! When I picked him up he was laying down/ super calm and didnt even realize I had walked in until Robert came out. Normally can get out of a place fast enough when Ive had to drop him off/ pick him up from a place. We will absolutely be back!

We brought our Cocker Spaniel puppy Hans for his first grooming to Robert, and we were so pleased with the results! Robert groomed our baby exactly as we requested, and everything went very smoothly! Thank you from Fernando and William!

After reading many great reviews, I called Robert for an appointment and took our family poodle mix for a haircut. Robert was very nice, asking a lot of questions to be sure he did what we wanted. He is experienced and did an amazing job. Im happy to support a new business in the East Village.

Do not go here!! We gave this groomer two chances both times he actively ignored what we asked for, the second time he completey butchered our dog. My partner felt so awkward at how bad it was, he actually tiped and left. When he got home we noticed that our dog had uneven hair, bald patches and uneven claws. We went back and he was very rude and told us that we should be greatful that he took the time to work with our dog at a great price. No idea how there are so many positive reviews.

We’ve been using Robert’s services for the last several months and couldn’t be happier! We come in monthly to help get our chihuahua mix’s nails cut; our dog is usually very fussy but he does a great job working with him. Been to a lot of other places, but no groomer’s done a better job!

“I’m really good. I cut dog hair for rich people.” That should have been enough of a red flag. But if you need more…Showed up for my appointment 8:30am Thursday morning. The first thing Robert said was,“I’m not cutting your dog’s hair.” Not even a hello. When I, shocked, asked what happened, he said, “I’m not cutting your dog’s hair, you’re late [I wasn’t]. You can leave.” I told him how ridiculous that was, and he was mistaken in saying that his assistant told me the time was 8am. He then said, “I remember you. You didn’t like the haircut last time. I only work with people who like my work.” He’s right that I didn’t like the cut, but I thought I would give him another chance. Equally egregious, while he was scolding me, he interrupted every single sentence I tried to say, and refused to speak with me. He sat down at his desk and ignored me. This sounds absolutely crazy, but it’s exactly what happened. It felt like the twilight zone. I asked him for his name, he refused to give it to me. Needless to say, people should not go here, but more importantly, this man needs some form of mental health treatment. It’s a great space and a much needed service in the area, but not with an unstable owner.

Love this place! New business to the area and could not be better. Amazing owner. Nice set up too! Took my french bulldog in today and owner was extremely knowledgeable and nice. Was so gentle with my doggo despite Rufus, my dog, having his objections to his nails being clipped. Could not ask for a better experience. Check this place out!! Will definitely be back!!!

Our big dog is pretty scared and delicate but the owner of the business (didnt get his name) dealt with him really well for his first ever groom since adoption! The owner was really friendly as well. Well definitely bring our doggo back to Shake and Tail!

They did a great job! The only reason I didnt give them 5 stars was because after I left I noticed one of my doggies paw was bleeding and no one informed me of it. I dont know if they were aware of this but I will give them another try because they really did do great job and were very welcoming.

My Pomeranian hadnt been groomed in a long time. She came out looking so beautiful, fresh and new! The services for the price is very reasonable too!

Robert gives aloving creative experience across the board to pets who visit...Sam mi is a happy smaller Yorkie, who can be a handful...but Robert is in control and taking time to design aUnique style him.We came by last Tuesday and I can say its petfect...

Robert did a great job with our one year old cavalier King Charles. Not only did he keep her “grinch” feet look intact but was a joy to work with from booking, drop off to picking her up.

Robert is a well trained and knowledgeable groomer. It doesn’t hurt that my dog loves him.

Roberto is just the best. He is super friendly and professional. He lives and cares for the dogs and makes sure to provide the best service. We have tried plenty of places in the city but none compare to this! We brought in our mini Australian Shepard /cattle dog mix in for a full service she came out happy and sparkling! Recommend the place for everything from just a quick wash to a full service

He was so good with both of my dogs. He was very nice to them! He also did a good close nail trim, even with one of my dogs who has long kwiks.Also, the price was fair and the shop was clean.

You should be ashamed, if you dont have a way to pay someone else say from the beginning, dont take advantage of people who want to work honestly and get ahead in our pet grooming industry, say from before, not after having had them working from 9am to 5pm and then give him $10 for all the work and laugh at him. This girl is doing everything possible to get ahead and be a professional groomer and help her mother who is sick, she is shameless!
