So glad we chose to bring our new rescue pup to Matt. He gave us the tools to make our 7 month old a great dog. Matt is straight forward and extremely knowledgeable. We are lifelong dog owners who thought we knew everything, boy were we wrong. We learned so much. Matt responded quickly to our first inquiry as well as any subsequent questions we had. It seems redundant to say how amazing and effective Matt/Alert Canine Training Solutions is since he already has so many wonderful reviews, but it is also important to know how skilled he is at pinpointing exactly what the specific dog/situation needs. It is definitely NOT a one-size-fits-all experience. My 10-year-old mixed breed rescue came to me very under-socialized, and Im guessing he had never been walked in his life. While perfectly polite and behaved at home, he was extremely dog reactive on leash. I live in a neighborhood where you encounter many dogs on walks and decided to reach out to Matt to fix the situation rather than spend the rest of his life avoiding dogs. Truly in the first 30 minutes Matt gave us tools to manage his walks, and to my surprise, we peacefully parallel walked with another dog in our first session. My boy is no longer the reactive dog in the neighborhood, and I now peacefully go to areas where there are other dogs. We mastered the walk and then some in just a couple of sessions. Although Im an experienced dog walker, there is always more to learn, and Matt is the perfect trainer to teach it. As we both agreed, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. (And I think that goes for the dog AND the walker). Matt is amazing, and I highly recommend him.

We brought our 8 month old puppy to Matt. Before going to Matt our days were chaotic. We found day to day training so difficult for us and we needed a solution. After our dog spent a month at Matt’s, he came home a changed dog. It is remarkable. We could have never imagined our dog behaving like he does now. We are so thankful to Matt. We will never ever get a dog without taking them to Matt. Thank you Matt for taking such great care of our Milos and for helping him mature and become an amazing part of our family. I was a first time dog owner to a Golden Doodle named Bruno. Bruno was difficult to take into public areas, was not a good listener, and was a jumper to anyone who entered the home. After months of unsuccessful attempts at behavior modification, I decided to hire Matt at Alert Canine Training Solutions to help. Needless to say, Bruno is a new and improved puppy!!! Matt has helped our entire family to train Bruno. We can now bring Bruno to the park, to the soccer field etc....we can now really enjoy family time with our puppy. Matts techniques truly work and I have the highest of respect for his knowledge in this area. I give Matt at ACTS the highest of recommendations.

We should have gone to Matt sooner!!! Im a first time dog parent so I didnt know what to expect. Milo is a beautiful, mild mannered, 2 year old Goldendoodle, but would take off as soon as the door opened. He had undesirable door manners, too. We could never take Milo off the leash, but after 3 weeks of training Milo listens. He never takes off and when a guest arrives we tell Milo, Place! and off he goes to his designated place. He knows what he has to do!! Additionally, he is off leash which we could never dare do before training.Matts services are well worth the investment and I would highly recommend him.

Matt was incredibly helpful with our high energy boxer. Before working with Matt our 1 year old puppy was pulling constantly on the leash, jumping up on us and guests, and we couldn’t trust him off leash anywhere.After just a couple months of working with Matt once a week, our puppy walks much better on the leash, doesn’t jump up on guests anymore, and we can fully trust him off the leash in most environments.He also gave us the tools and knowledge to continue working on the obedience training on our own.This improvement really helped our quality of life. And we recommend Matt to anyone who wants to improve obedience, listening, or any behavior with your dog.

I have been working with Matt from Alert Canine since my Doberman puppy was 3 1/2 months old. I cant say enough about how pleased I am with the training. My puppy comes to my office so has to be well behaved and trained. Matt truly enjoys his work and is great with me and my dog. This is my fourth Doberman. I have used 3 different trainers for my other dogs. Matt is by far the best! My puppy is 6 months old and I want to continue with agility and obedience training. I have a strong willful 60 lb puppy, who I took to several puppy classes. Luckily I ran into two dog owners in New Canaan who noticed I was having problems with leash walking. (and some nipping too) They recommended Matt, and he was the right person at the right time for me and my puppy. its obvious he truly loves dogs, and understands everyone will have a better life when they have more confidence and consistency. Matt quickly gets both the dog and the human, and treats both with kindness and respect. I immediately knew I could trust him completely, and my puppy absolutely adores him. I will go back for necessary tune ups (probably more for me!) I would feel totally comfortable leaving my dog with him too. So grateful.

Matt is an awesome dog trainer and has loads of patience with me. Matt is an amazing trainer! I would definitely recommend him as a trainer. My boyfriend and I have a Siberian Husky who had major behavioral problems. He would not listen at all. He was constantly eating the furniture, jumping on everyone and everything, he didn’t listen when it was time to come inside and I would eventually have to carry him in the house, and he would cry and scream when it was time to put him in the crate if we were leaving or going to bed. We didn’t know what to do but after looking for trainers, we came across Matt’s website. After meeting with him and having him go over a few training techniques with our puppy, we knew he would be a big help. When we got the puppy back, we could see a huge change in his behavior. When Matt started his training, our puppy was 6 months old. He is now 13 months and is still just as great as when we got him back. He listens on the first command, there’s no longer a struggle to come inside or go in his crate, and now he understand were the boss.

I took my adopted dog Maggie to training with Alert Canine Training Solutions and I couldnt be happier with the results. Matt is kind, patient and very clear in helping owners with their new dogs. Id never taken a dog to training before so this was all new to me and its amazing to see the results. Maggie is a lot happier and calmer now in our house.

Matt turned our 6 month old German Shorthaired Pointer into our DREAM dog! He took her high energy and drive and channeled it into a well-trained, responsive, and well-mannered dog. 10/10 Highly Recommended! After a few weeks of searching for a dog trainer for my 2 year old St. Bernard, I found Matt & Alert Canine Training Solutions. It took no more than a minute for me to know he was the right guy for the job. You can tell immediately how much he loves what he does and how deeply he cares about the animals he works with. He takes the time to understand the issues surrounding your dog and gives you a full, in depth walkthrough of everything he does: training style, boarding, socialization, behavior correction etc.He gives you updates throughout your dogs training program and even sends videos to show you the progress your dog is making in real time!After three weeks of working with Matt, its like I got back a brand new dog! Same mushy, lovey demeanor, just without all the behavior/obedience issues!!! I will guarantee that whenever I decide to get my next dog he will 150% be working with Matt. Matt was fantastic with our 8 month old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. He was starting to resource guard stolen things (diapers, socks, plastic bags). It was dangerous for him and for us trying to take things from him. He also did not outgrow his teething mouthiness and was greeting us excitedly with his mouth leaving lots of scratches and bruises. We knew we needed help. Monte did a 30 day board and train with Matt. He’s been home 6 days and is finally a joy to live with. He is doing well with his heel, place, stay, sit, leave it, and critically, drop. We just went back for our first owner/dog follow up training session and our pup was so excited to see Matt after 6 days apart.

We hadnt had puppies in MANY years, when we decided to get two 16 week old labradoodles. So adorable. We had never had a dog trainer in past but knew we wanted very well behaved dogs in our future. Matt is an excellent trainer! I have a 2 year old male pit named Jax who had severe aggression issues with strangers and had zero obedience, When first meeting Matt , jax was not impressed and was very aggressive towards Matt. Thankfully Matt knew exactly what to do and aftter 2 months of continuous training with Matt, Jax is a differnet dog. He is much happier, follows commands and has become more comfortable around strangers. Matt is very knowledgeable and works so well with Jax. Due to the fact that we took so long to seek training Jax still has a lot of work to be done but I know Matt is the perfect trainer for us! I would highly recommend Matt as a dog trainer, he is always available if you have any questions!

My dog Chloe is 6 years old and I needed help. She’s a Newfoundland mix who had never been off leash because she wouldn’t come when called and was very unsure of strangers. Sweet with me just not strangers and she didn’t listen to me so I couldn’t trust she’d be ok around anyone new. Matt was referred by a friend who raved about how amazing he was for her 2 puppies and I was skeptical because my dog is a rescue I got when she was 4 months old and spent 5.5 years struggling to find a way for her and I to be ok. I can’t explain just how amazing our experience has been with Matt at Alert Canine. Chloe is now off leash in the yard while I work and doesn’t chase anything that moves. We walk side by side and she is comfortable meeting people and other dogs!! I swear I didn’t know if it was going to be possible but here we are. I recommend Alert Canine to everyone I know. Matty from A.C.T.S is extremely knowledgable in his field and will tailor you at home training sessions to your specific needs. I was 8 months pregnant with a toddler and a hyper 3 year old pitbull/boxer mix that I needed to listen to me in preparation for the arrival of our new baby. My dog was more maintenance than my toddler! Within 3 one hour lessons, my dog learned to come when I called her, go to place when visitors came to the door and stay off them during their visit. I cannot say enough great things about our dog training experience and I would highly recommend Matty to anyone.

I cannot recommend Matt and Alert Canine Training Solutions more! By the time Sadie, my two year old Bernedoodle had arrived at Matts for the 30 day training program, she already had experienced three different trainers, including one who told me she needed to be rehomed. Upon our initial meet and greet, I could tell Matt was the right person for Sadie and as important the right person for me! Matt cares so much about ensuring youre successful with implementing his training techniques that he makes himself available for follow up lessons and texts whenever you have a question. As a first time dog owner, he was patient with me and continued to model anything I needed further help with. I also love that he provided me with a recording that I can watch any time for refreshers. My one regret is that I did not take my dog to Matt sooner. I used to dread taking Sadie on a walk because I never knew how she would react. It is now an absolutely joy. Matt is the best of the best.

Matt, was phenomenal!! My pup was having some protective issues when walked around other people and dogs which was a concern for me and my girlfriend. She spent a week with him and I took her out on Halloween walked by my side the entire time and did not acknowledge any of the people kids or dogs that were out. Highly recommended

Highly recommend Matt. Worked with a trainer previously that had been very ineffective with my dog and I thought I would never be able to train my dog. Just one session in my dog learned basic commands and is much more obedient.

My husband and I were struggling with our two year old German Shepherd Dog, Shane. She was exhibiting extreme anxiety in social situations, leash aggression, and she bit the first trainer we hired, who then promptly, and understandably, quit. We were unable to bring Shane anywhere off-property, for fear of unfavorable interactions with other dogs and people. We then turned to Matt, of Alert Canine Training Solutions. Matt took Shane for a three week Board & Train and instilled in her all the confidence and structure that she needed to be a good dog out in the big world.Matt also gave us all the knowledge we need to keep up Shanes training; he gave us in-person training lessons with instructive feedback, resulting in us communicating more effectively with Shane. He also gave us a detailed dvd of him training Shane that we can watch going forward and use as a reference tool.This past weekend we took Shane to spectate with us at a very busy horse show. There were hundreds of people in attendance, and many dogs, of all shapes, sizes, and personalities. We spent four days at the horse show and Shane was incredible each and every day. She exhibited no leash aggression, in fact when other leashed dogs lunged at her, she ignored them and focused on us instead. She heeled all through the show grounds and was a perfect partner. Many people commented on what a well trained dog we had, and our hearts were bursting with pride - thank you, Matt!We now feel confident taking Shane anywhere and everywhere and were so excited at the big future we now have with this dog. Matt was amazing to work with. He transformed our 2 yo female Doberman from good to amazing with a 3 week board and train. Our dog is more calm, seriously obedient, is totally reliable off leash, and seems more relaxed with the whole world. She still has her high drive and loves to work, but no longer seems confused about what, specifically, I am asking of her. She now seems to understand exactly what I want her to do, and she does it with enthusiasm. The way Matt trained us when we visited was wonderful. Matt also communicated with us very reliably and effectively throughout the whole process. For us to get to Matt and back home, it was an 8 hour round trip drive, but worth every minute of it. My dog Loki went to Matt for the month long board and train program. A few weeks after the training there was an incident where several dogs got off their leash and got in her face. Because of the training she received she was calm about it and she did nothing- which is important since she is a large dog. Its a great feeling to know that she is trained and i can trust in her reactions even if i cannot trust in other peoples dogs being trained and having manners.
