I just had to bring my 17 week old here he was congested and they treated him with such loving care ,they made it as stressless as possible .He was given 2 medicines while he was there . When we got home within a half hour he went and ate a little and had perked up a little. His brother was happy to have him come back home. Thanks to their staff who made it easy from the minute we came through the door. Highly recommend them to take great care of your furbabies. Boston likes the doctor and the assistant except when they had to take his temperature. Thanks for helping my baby.

Ive been bringing my dogs to Suffern Animal Hospital since 2018, and my experiences can be summed up thusly: Quality care. Compassion. Transparency. Two specific examples come to mind:(1) In 2019, an X-ray showed our lab had a partial tear to her ACL. When I asked about surgery, Dr. Sakolsky said that was an option and quoted $5,000. Based on our dogs behavior, I was hopeful she could be rehabbed at home with rest and anti inflammatory meds. Dr. Sakolsky didnt push or guilt me about the surgery and agreed it was definitely worth a shot to try rest and meds. And it worked! We saved a bundle and spared our senior girl an ultimately unnecessary surgery. Years later, when it looked like the end for our sweet girl, we met with Dr. Lessiak, whose expertise and compassion helped guide us through a terrible time.(2) Fast forward to 2024, when our hound puppy was feeling exceptionally anxious at the vet, vet tech Danielle suggested I bring him in for a happy visit, where he got to slowly warm up to the environment while getting lots of treats and praise from the entire staff (shout out also to vet tech Melody).Overall, the patience and professionalism my dogs and I have experienced at Suffern Animal Hospital is why we keep coming back, and why I recommend them. Also, I find the fees to be very reasonable, especially compared to other vets in the Bergen County area. I was once charged ~$800(!) for a routine wellness exam for my lab by a local veterinarian whose name I will not mention. But it rhymes with Shmavanaugh.

I can’t say enough good things about Suffern Animal Hospital. The entire staff has been incredibly kind, responsive, and just genuinely good people. They’ve shown an immense amount of patience and understanding, answering all my questions and addressing my concerns with care. I’ve never felt rushed or ignored, and it’s clear that they truly care about the well-being of the animals they treat. I highly recommend Suffern Animal Hospital to anyone looking for compassionate and attentive veterinary care.

Ill admit Im what would be considered a crazy dog mom... With that being said, Im very particular when it comes to who I choose to groom, dogsit or take care of my beloved Norwegian Elkhound, Odin. I moved to Suffern in 2019 and needed to find a new vet. At this point, Odin was already 6 and had seen the same vet in Orange County for the 5 years since we got him. I nervously tried Suffern Animal Hospital, but those nerves subsided quickly when I saw the level of care they provided him. He needed surgery in the fall of 2019 and SAH was incredible with him and us. They did a wonderful job taking care of what he needed done and allowing us to be present where appropriate to keep Odin (and us) calm during the entire ordeal. He now goes there 1x a year for his check ups/lab work and as needed if issues arise. Each time we take him, they provide him with the best care and always act in his best intrest. So long as I live in the area, I will continue to take Odin and any other animal I have to SAH!

I couldn’t be happier with my choice to use Suffern Animal Hospital for the care of my puppy. The first time we walked in we were greeted by the amazing staff who are always professional, friendly and helpful. I noticed that unlike other veterinary hospitals there was no smell of animals. The office is immaculate! I have had the pleasure to meet both Dr. Lessiak and Dr. Sakolsky and am thrilled to have them taking care of my puppy. The interaction between them and Jojo warms my heart with each visit. It is obvious why they chose the profession. They are kind, loving and thorough in their examination. Five days ago I went to the Suffern Animal Hospital with my canine B due to her licking her paws constantly causing them to become raw. Upon seeing the vet, she determined that she has some type of skin irritation and after a discussion an injectable medication was prescribed. I can’t believe the results. It was amazing, her licking and scratching subsided by about 95 %. I’m told that the shot lasts between four and eight weeks. The money spent was absolutely worth it. Thank you Suffern Animal Hospital. Tom B.

Im actually upset that i have to even write this review. had an appointment today with our new puppy to get her checkup and vaccinations. The visit was fine and the care was good but upon checkout i noticed a problem with the credit card machine. the front desk attendant took my card and ran it on her side through the system for the coat of the visit. when i returned home i noticed my account was drained for all the money i had left for the week. mind you the amount of the visit and the second charge were different so we can assume that there is a huge glitch in there system. after speaking with the front desk and office manager they worked on a refund but explained that it could take days to be refunded. this is where it becomes unacceptable. i do understand that its a computer glitch but this is everything my family had to function on and now we have nothing but an apology. not ok!

Very disappointed in how the euthanasia was handled with my 18 year old dog. After waiting around 30 minutes (past our appt time) we were brought into the room, where the relief vet then told us that she would place an IV catheter prior to euthanasia to make the process less stressful. My dog was in the back for at least 20 minutes, and we could hear him screaming while the catheter was being placed. The vet lied to our faces, saying that he wasn’t the one crying…we were the only appt in the building. After this ordeal, the vet came back to tell us that she needed to sedate our dog, because they were unable to handle him during the procedure. Fine, I understand that. Another 20 minutes goes by while we wait for the catheter to be placed. Finally, the technician brings my heavily sedated dog into the room, and when I asked what took so long, the vet made a snarky comment at me that it didn’t take THAT long to place the catheter. Before we could even grasp what was happening, they vet started performing the euthanasia. She pushed the solution so fast, that my dog basically died in 3 seconds - not peaceful at all. Without apologizing for our loss, the vet said that when we were done, we could leave. I questioned her, as I felt uncomfortable leaving my beloved family member’s body in the room alone. She said that I could ask the front desk to “deal with that.” After the vet left, I verbalized to the technician about how horrible this experience has been. Their response: they are short staffed and down a doctor. I am a veterinarian In the field - I know how short staffed and stressful this time can be, but I have ZERO tolerance for a lack of compassion. My family had been going to Suffern Animal Hospital since the 90’s. I can honestly say, I am so disappointed in how we were treated and how my pet was treated in his final moments. My family will never be returning to this hospital. I am mortified on how downhill it has gone since Dr. French sold it.

Good care, and will usually get you in same day if you really need it, friendly but never cheap. My dogs last ear infection cost well over $400. Twice previous, I brought my dog there and had to pay for nothing because she(thedog) wouldnt let the vet people look at the issue. And time before that I had to pay $150 when the dog stepped on a piece of small glass and I couldnt tell if it was still in her paw, just for them to tell me they cant tell either and to come back if it doesnt get better. You can expect to pay $150 no matter what and at least. It is my personal opinion that it should be cheaper, if no care is given or help provided.

Something wed gotten there for years. They no longer carry that medication and gave us an ear wash which didnt help, although weve used the wash in the past.i called yesterday to get a script for the med they no longer carry so we could get it elsewhere. Three calls later no one called me back and I was finally told that we would have to bring the dog in. This is a repeat issue with the dog so I dont need the cost of an office visit plus culture for a refill of a med. 20+ year client and they didnt bat an eye when I told them Im leaving because they just wouldnt fill an Rx.

Our kitty was having issues recovering from dental surgery that Suffern Animal Hospital performed in July 2021. We brought her back in repeatedly since then, as she wasnt able to eat, and we were told her swollen node/hard lump in her neck was normal. Taking her in for visits seemed futile as she was only getting worse. After switching vets earlier this month, the new vet examined her and saw something alarming in her mouth. After a biopsy, turns out she had cancer in her mouth and had already spread to her jaw. We just said goodbye to her on Wednesday. I feel Suffern Animal Hospital let us down hard.

If there was a worse rating I would have chosen that. I brought my bunny here to get a diagnosis for the reason she was excreting blood and it turned out the she had uterine cancer. But while she was there, they dropped her and dislocated her hip. This is what eventually lead to her death. When Doctor French called and informed us of this he had little to no compassion for this and sounded like he could care less. She survived the surgery for removal of the grown in her uterus but couldnt move around much and wasnt walking on her leg. When we took her to another hospital they informed us that there were few options to take care of this and the ones they presented had little chance of working. This doctor french did not inform us of. Our rabbit stopped eating and drinking due to the pain on her hip and after many trips to other vets in attempts to save her, her heart gave out. I would NEVER take my pet here ever again, and dont recommend you do.

I went in October of 2013, because my dog Jake was tired and limping- I thought that maybe he broke his leg. Immediately when I walked in the door the receptionist said - he tore his ACL - here let me get you paperwork on it. I told her that I would like to have him see a doctor first before committing to a 3,000- 5,000 surgery.First ISSUE: I havent even seen a doctor yet- how is the receptionist able to diagnose my dog?I went in to see Dr. KARKHECK whos spent less then 45 seconds in the room looks at him and said he tore his ACL and she recommended surgery- had the paperwork in her hand quoted, me a price and told me that if I cared about my dog I would take care of him this way. In less then 1 minute she was in and out of the room. I told her that I didnt feel comfortable with out doing blood work and seeing if there was some thing else. She said ok and gave me a prescription for some pain meds.Second Issue: Why is the patients owner suggesting blood work and you are refusing to do so?Third Issue: I didnt realize your time was that valuable that it couldnt be wasted by spending more then a minute with us.After the visit, Jake regained his energy- I decided to not give him the pain medicine she gave him- something in my gut told me not to.Flash forward a few months, Jake was fine for a few months- seemed better then he normally was. Then the same thing happened again. My fiance decided to take him back to the Suffern Animal hospital and He saw Dr. FRENCH. Dr. Frenchs prescribed him an antibiotic- with the wrong dosage and it almost killed him. He also did not offer any blood work but offered to have Jake do an X- ray that would cost us $500.00 - quoted my fiance right then and there. My fiance only took the medicine and said that we would discuss it together and see if the medicine helped. Jake got increasingly worse. I tried to call to speak with Dr. French however his receptionist told me he was with someone- which is fine Im sure he is busy but when I told them it was an emergency- they offered no assistance. They never forwarded my information on. I called 7 times between 9 and 3 pm before actually getting Dr. French on the phone. He lied to me on the phone about the diagnosis told me that he suggested blood work - I knew he was lying because he changed his story & forgot my dogs name called him something else completely. He then told me that the medicine he gave was never clinically tested on dogs so he himself wasnt sure of a good amount to give him. I couldnt believe what I just had heard and was in complete shock - he offered to come back in and he would see Jake right away.I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN.I brought Jake to another animal hospital in the area- they took two hours asking more questions then I could ever imagine and found that Jake simply has Lyme disease. The test results came in this morning. He has Chronic Lyme disease so if the Doctors at Suffern Animal hospital asked any questions at all they would of figured this out. From the front desk to the doctors- they are horrible.
