I cannot express how amazing each and every trainer is with my dog. The entire staff is so kind and accommodating, and Ive never felt so comfortable leaving my dog at a training facility. They keep you updated with pictures, and have so many fun activities for you AND your dog. I dont want to pick favorites.... but Alexa, Sam, and Chris truly helped me turn my dog into a dream dog. I will always recommend Sit Means Sit and scream it from any rooftop! Thank you guys so much!

I rescued my mini Bernedoodle at 3 months old, he is my first dog in adulthood. I’ve had him now 4 months and the first 3 months of having him were anything but the happy puppy life I’ve seen all over social media (who would’ve thought right!?) I can’t lie when I say the thought of rehoming crossed my mind. As sweet as he is, he would get into weird moods and would communicate with his mouth.I tried a couple trainers but nothing seemed to be working. I found Sit Means Sit after researching training in the area and I’m SO HAPPY I did! In a short span of time, my pups personality has shifted. The mouthiness has decreased significantly, walking on leash has become easier for both me and him, and his obedience around crate training has improved. However, beyond the training, it’s the people that have made me really love this place! All the trainers at SMS built a really incredible community of trainers and dog parents wanting to help better their fur babies quality of life and help them navigate through whatever it is they’re dealing with. I’m very much looking forward to our future training with SMS and further developing my little guys skills to give him the best life possible! 10/10 recommend to any dog parent of any age!

Meet Blake Augustus Syso. He is 5 years old and found as a stray in Texas in 2021. He has a head injury, a wonkie eye, limited eyesight, and other neurological issues. We adopted him at the end of July and enrolled him in Sit Means Sit. With the help of Neil, Sam, Alexa, Lexi and Chris he has shined doing everything that is asked of him. The difference is absolutely amazing and we noticed it after his very first class. I cannot praise Sit Means Sit and its amazing staff enough. We enjoy the continued group classes now that Blake has graduated.

The best training we have ever experienced with our puppy. The great thing is we can continue to learn and grow with free classes 2x week for the life of our dog. All the staff at SIT MEANS SIT are so knowledgeable and help you achieve your training goals. Thank you Neil and all the staff.

I came to Sit Means Sit because I wanted Apollo to work through his past trauma. I wanted him to be confident and more relaxed as we went through our days out there. I was skeptical. But the SMS team made me feel at ease. They showed genuine care and love for what they do and helped my Apollo learn so much. They offer a lifetime of assistance and that is comforting. Absolutely love Sit Means Sit! My pup, Lilly, had such a great time here learning from day one. I am a new dog mom and have tried a few methods of training my golden doodle pup that didn’t quite work until I was recommended Sit Means Sit. As a bigger pup, about 60lbs, it was a bit challenging to keep up before starting her training. All of the trainers Lexi, Chris, Alexa, Sam are amazing! I have seen such a positive change in our walks, her behavior and even at the park! They really take their time in training and they truly care. If you need training for your dog, I would definitely recommend! They have programs for every age and unlimited group classes! Lilly will eventually work on becoming a Therapy Dog as well. Super exciting!

Penny graduated school! 🎓 What an amazing 6 weeks. I have nothing but good things to say about the entire experience from start to finish. It was an expensive investment, but totally worthwhile. The Sit Means Sit trainers are phenomenal. Neil, Sam, Alexa, Lexi, and Chris are so helpful and great to work with! They all truly have a deep love for dogs and are top notch in their field. They are fantastic communicators. The training process is simple enough to follow and practice at home, and the results are outstanding. They make you feel like family. Your dog couldn’t be in better hands. I’ve watched Penny become confident and obedient while remaining sweet, silly, fun-loving, and cuddly. We look forward to continuing training practice during group classes and acquiring new levels of skills and achievements.

PERFECT !They train you and they train your dog for the best results. My large exciting dog was close looking for a new home, then I found Sit Means Sit and now he just passed his Canine Good Citizen test. All the people are kind and helpful. Highly recommend. All the group walks and holiday parties are fun. They are great about keep the dogs under control. Great for the community.

I have a 13-month-old Bernedoodle, Tucker, who I rescued when he was 8-weeks old. Tucker had a lot of behavioral issues that I did not know how to handle. I went through trainers and behaviorists none of whom helped Tucker. As time went on, Tucker’s negative behavior worsened, especially his reactivity and leash pulling. I began to feel frustrated and saddened that I couldn’t help Tucker. I knew that neither of us were happy. A colleague suggested that I try Sit Means Sit. With apprehension, I decided to give them a try. I had no idea that this decision would be life changing (no joke) for both Tucker and me. The amazing team of behaviorists and trainers at Sit Means Sit could NOT have been any more helpful, knowledgeable, patient and kind. They treated Tucker as though he was their own dog. They were incredibly successful in Training Tucker and then training me so that I could work effectively with Tucker. The changes that I see in Tucker, since beginning Sit Means Sit, are remarkable. My neighbors even comment on how well he is trained. He is now a wonderful family dog who is so well behaved that several of my neighbors have commented on the positive changes in Tucker. Those positive changes stem directly from working with the team at Sit Means Sit! I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone looking for dog training or to change certain behaviors. My only regret regarding Sit Means Sit is that I didn’t contact them sooner!

Sunny graduated and I am so pleased with how far he has come in 6 weeks. I am so thankful to have come across Sit Means Sit. Sunny came in very shy and has transformed into a confident and well behaved puppy. The team is professional and extremely kind. Your fur baby is being left in great hands! Sit Means Sit has been such a great experience. We rescued our dog, Luna when she was 6 months old (she’s now 5) and have struggled with leash reactivity & tried working with other trainers but couldn’t find a solution to help her. We enrolled Luna in the 6 week program at SMS and she has become so much more confident and less fearful around other dogs (aka, not reacting to triggers!). The team at SMS is absolutely amazing. They’re super knowledgeable and quick to identify the needs of their clients and it’s also very apparent how passionate they are about improving the lives of the dogs (and people) that they work with. We especially appreciate the time that they spend educating us and ensuring our understanding of how to work with and support Luna at home and in new environments. We would highly recomendable Sit Means Sit to any dog parents (especially those struggling with reactivity)!

We love Sit Means Sit! The lessons are well worth it — we have an adult dog but this school proves you can teach an old dog new tricks! Our dog was not great with other dogs in the neighborhood and could be aggressive/not respond to us, but the e-collar training has worked wonders. He has become much more responsive to us — it has helped him to stay focused on us when he sees another dog on a walk or not as aggressive when meeting a new person at our home.The group classes are a great addition to the specific training during the week. It’s given our dog an opportunity to better socialize and be more comfortable around all types of dogs with us, especially ones bigger than him. The group classes are for lifetime as well, so you can go to them for as long as you want with your dog! The training exercises are easy to follow at home and work on too with video lessons in an online portal after you do one-on-one training in-person at the school after each day your dog is there.Overall, I’d highly recommend them to any dog owner in the Westchester area! It’s easy to see the week-to-week improvement and we’re excited to continue working with the Sit Means Sit team in the future!

I couldn’t be more pleased with the care and training Sammy and I received. He is a very large dog who never pulls or runs away. The trainers were patient with both of us making sure we both understood what we needed to learn. He is a pleasure to live with. Wish I knew about Sit means Sit a long time ago for my other dogs. I have spent a small fortune on useless training programs. This one is the first that really worked.

Somehow I wrote a review and must have erased it so this won’t be as wordy. We were blessed to come across Neil Cohen’s name and Sit Means Sit’s number several years ago after “flunking out” with 2 other . I had multiple physicians tell me to rehome Delilah, our now 3 year old Beagle for fear that she would hurt me- she was called “aggressive” she did bite my partner and myself if she didn’t want to do something and she was horrible walking on leash and I did fall fairly frequently. We had no intentions of rehoming Delilah but we were absolutely desperate by the time we first spoke with Neil.With that first call, was the sense that he could help us, that we could be ok and have a family together. And that’s what has happened. It has truly been a miracle! While she’s not perfect, who is? And she will always be a stubborn willful hound, she is my Emotional Support Dog and my reason to get up in the morning and Delilah is the reason that I continue to walk as well as I do. I was diagnosed with MS just before she came into our lives and I don’t always want to go outside and walk, but if she needs a walk, we walk. So thank you to Delilah! But mostly, thank you to Neil and the SMS Tram for giving us this goofy, loving adorable, sometimes bratty girl who keeps me on my toes and laughing.. I recommend Sit Means Sit to EVERYONE with a dog. You won’t be sorry. They saved our family and have given us such joy and love. A million times over. They are the best!!!

I have a 2 year old Whippet mix, Bailey, who I adore, she is a rescue from Saint Lucia. Shes a great dog, shes my baby! She is very sweet and loving.Trying to walk her was always a nightmare, she would pull, scream at the other dogs and lunge towards them ( very embarrassing). We also couldnt take her in the car when it was forecasted to rain. She was extremely reactive when the wipers were on, she would scream, cry and attack the windshield. Those were my two main issues with her behavior. I had tried a few trainers prior, but there was no change with her behavior.I had looked into Sit Means Sit in Valhalla. I had many phone calls and texts with them prior to signing Bailey up for their program. They were great, very patient with me and answered all of my questions, they didnt pressure me to enroll her. During her six week training, all of her trainers were great, I enjoyed working with each and every one of them! Bailey has finished her six weeks and she is great!!! I can walk her!! Shes no longer reactive towards other dogs during our walks, and I no longer have to check the weather before taking her in the car!!! There have been many other positive changes in Bailey since her training and were enjoying the Saturday classes with the trainers! Im grateful and very happy I made the choice to have the Sit Means Sit team work with her!!!!! My thanks and appreciation to all of them!!!!

Absolutely thrilled with our experience with Sit Means Sit Dog Training in Valhalla, NY. Neil, Sam, Alexa, Lexi, and Chris are wonderful with my dog Teddy! We rescued him after the pandemic and he came with unpredictable fear aggression. We brought him to a behavioral vet, he was put on medications, and we tried several different trainers- even 2 weeks at a board and train. all without much improvement. That is until we found Neil and Sit means Sit of Westchester. Ted absolutely loves going for his ‘school’. The trainers work patiently with Teddy and us to teach and practice the skills. Teddy’s behavior has improved dramatically. The available twice weekly sessions to reinforce and introduce him to new skills is exactly what we all need. I give Sit Means Sit Westchester my highest recommendation!

Neil at Sit Means Sit is amazing! We adopted a 4 year old Lab mix with a lot of energy. She has transformed: we’ve been able to bring her to a baseball game, a pet fair, and Oktoberfest and she’s great! She stays by our side, listens to commands, and loves meeting new people. Neil, Sam and the rest of the trainers at Sit means sit are truly amazing. My husband and I, having never had a puppy before, decided we needed help to give our girl the best fundamentals. After a quick talk with the team we signed her up for the Dream Dog program. Imagine my surprise when she responded to come and sit after her first session. Today, she graduated and is truly a dream dog. I cant say enough positive things, and we will continue to attend group classes as a reminder to us and little Magnolia that life long practice is best. We also love these classes as part of a dog owner community. I really love all the knowledge both Maggie and my husband and I have gotten from these talented trainers.

I started Sit Means Sit with Rogue to “polish him up”. It is so much more than that! Rogue is a 5 year old Pit Bull found chained to an abandoned house, starving to death. He has an unknown past, and can be reactive to other dogs.After day one of being with Alexa, Lexi, Chris, Sam and Neil, I knew we were in the right place. They show so much personalized attention not only to all the dogs, but to every single guardian. I know that for myself it has been a very personal, introspective journey with my dog. And everyone at Sit Means Sit has helped me and Rogue get thru every step.I honestly can’t imagine not taking Rogue to “school”. I cannot even mention any of their names without him running to the door, staring at his leash, wanting to get in the car and see his friends.Rogue isn’t perfect yet. My dog Daisy just finished the Dream Dog Program and I couldnt be happier with her progress! The training program has helped immensely with her anxiety, ability to meet strangers, and leash walking. Neil, Sam and the rest of the training staff are fantastic, truly love the dogs, and do a great job of teaching you what you need to know to reinforce the training at home. The group training classes are also really great and we are looking forward to continuing those indefinitely. Neil and Sam are creative with the group and individual sessions which really help expose the dogs to new environments and help train us with how to handle our dogs reactions in those new environments.

**update in 2021* We adopted a little chihuahua at just 6 months and Bob (our chihuahua) just finished his dream puppy program! It’s been wonderful again and Bob loves his sit means sit family. Our pup was deemed aggressive by our vet and with Neil’s help and guidance we were able to learn about Roscoe’s reactivity triggers and how to handle them. I honestly do not know where we would be without Neil and all the help he has given us. He has saved my dogs life and helped me as his mom build my confidence in handling such a strong willed dog. Where to begin? As a first time dog owner with a rambunctious teenaged rescue Doberman Pinscher and having been through 2 trainers I was not able to even walk him with one hand, the pulling was so bad. Griffon would run off in the woods, escape the yard and run across busy roads to go and visit his buddy. Then in come Neil and Sam and long story short: G is now a certified therapy dog - well-behaved, well-trained and well-loved by many. I learned just as much from SMS as G did. We joined a community and I am very grateful and proud of our progress, all thanks to the amazing team at SMS. It was the best investment and I cannot speak highly enough of Neil.

Neil, Sam and Dana are a FANTASTIC team and I couldnt recommend them more!! We have two young golden retrievers both with very different personalities. We have taken both to different training/obedience classes however nothing seemed to stick and we continued to have problems that we would just live with. That all changed once we found sit means sit. Stevie our youngest was a expert escape artist, anytime a door was open she found her way out of it and would get herself into some frightening situations. Come was always an option, she either felt like it or she didnt. Walks with her were unenjoyable as it involved her pulling us down the street until we just gave up and went inside. Our older dog Riley is an expert at come and leash walking however is also an expert counter surfer, food stealer, demand barker and was basically scared of her own shadow. In just a few short weeks we watched our dogs change before our eyes. Neil, Sam and Dana not only trained our dogs, but taught us valuable lessons and helped us understand how to react and manage certain situations. We are so excited to be able to continue with group classes, our dogs light up with excitement the second we pull up to the facility. You truly will not find better trainers and dog lovers!! We are so thankful for all of their help, truly has changed our life/relationships with our pups!

Once I got Odin my lab. I was looking for a place to train him. I found sit means sit and decided to do puppy class, then we worked tours “good citizen” and now we are currently in the process of making Odin a therapy dog. Neil & Sam are two of the best dog trainers in the game. They have shown me how to correctly take control of any situation to keep Odin and myself safe. Signing up for this program will be the best thing you could do!!!

I would highly recommend Neil with Sit Means Sit. When I first met with Neil my dog was struggling with some issues that I didn’t quite understand (he acted like he wanted to kill dogs on walks, but was fine at daycare... he barked like he wanted to kill strangers, but actually loves to be pet... etc etc). He was not only a nuisance around our apartment, but was actually rather embarrassing. I had previously met with a behavioral trainer and a traditional trainer closer to me (Rockland Co.) but neither one of them GOT my dog or his issues. They didn’t see what I saw and were entirely dismissive of my concerns. From the first meeting with Neil, it was a completely different vibe. He listened to my concerns, anticipated behaviors before I explained them, and assured me that we could work on the issues without changing his personality or creating a robot dog. Perhaps most importantly, my dog immediately took to him and loved him (this is a dog who is usually a bit wary around new people).While Orion is still working on his training, his ability to focus and ignore background issues has improved in an astounding way. The group classes are also a wonderful perk to the training curriculum. They are fun and really help to enforce the dog’s focus in different environments.While you can find tons of rave reviews about Sit Means Sit online.... I think that Neil is truly what sets this particular location apart. From his ability to connect with the animals, to his understanding of common (and maybe some not so common) behavioral issues, to his patience, and ability to explain things in a light hearted way... he makes the training experience much more fun and turns it into a bonding experience with your pet, rather than feeling like you are punishing your dog ... you just feel like you are having fun together while both learning new things.Neil not only takes pride in his work, but truly takes all of “his dogs” successes as a personal matter. You can see his pride when he sees one of the dogs “get it” and you can tell how much he loves what he does.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Neil to anybody looking for a trainer, even if they have been let down by trainers before. Neil, Sam, and Dana are outstanding dog trainers, but more importantly exceptional people trainers. The dream dog program not only taught our dog Oakley (a 1 year old golden doodle), the skills he needed to succeed in the program, but taught my wife and I how to harness those skills and keep building on them. When we first started the program Oakley was high energy/anxiety, a leash puller, barker, and would not respond to come without a reward. However, by week 8 Oakley follows commands off leash, is pleasant to walk and run with, and listens without fail. Furthermore, the facility is clean, pup safe, and family friendly. We cannot thank the team over at sit means sit enough and encourage other initially struggling dog owners to enroll their pup.

Neil & Sam are the best trainers around and are worth every penny! After rescuing Rudy, my fiancé and I found him very reactive to any dog he saw. During walks or even in the car he’d lunge, growl and bark at any dog even if it was far down the road. We contacted multiple trainers and had to literally change our lives to safely take him outside. Luckily, we found Neil who was able to work with Rudy as well as us to have control of these situations and change how he reacts around other dogs. Now after five months it’s like hes a whole new dog on the leash! We are able to take him out for walks without the worry of him pulling us down the street, hurting himself or reacting aggressively to another dog. In group class he can now sit five feet from another dog and not react. We never thought we would ever see the day. Big bonus is how much all the dogs, especially Rudy, loves Neil and Sam. You truly see how passionate they are for the dogs. Recommend 100%.

I honestly cannot say enough about Neil and Sam! Our pup was good but extremely anxious and the anxiety was starting to make our way of life difficult. She wouldnt go up the stairs and would freeze in fear on walks! Within one session, she was such a happier dog. She now walks up and down the stairs and even when she does get scared on walks, we have strategies to help her. I honestly didnt know what to expect but this was the best investment weve made. Our biggest regret is not doing it sooner! Neil and Sam answered every question we had and I know they clearly love our pup!

Neil trained our older dog, now a year and a half old, and is now training his younger brother, 8 months old - both lovely but very exuberant Golden Retrievers. In each case, the response has been remarkable, exceeding all expectations. The Sit Means Sit method definitely works and is well worth the money.

They give you the tools to get the best dog ever. I enrolled my dog because she is super reactive towards dogs. She would lunge, bark and try to knock me over to get at them. Now she can sit calmly next to other dogs and calmly walk past them only feet away.I cant guarantee that she now likes other dogs, but she is tolerant of them in her space and that is what I was hoping for.They love on your dog as if it were their own. And even after lessons or done you can continue with group classes tofine tune your skills.

Went in just wanting to be able to walk my dog on a leash and came out with a therapy dog that now visits a high school on a regular basis!

Our dog, Marshall, has severe separation anxiety. After doing some research, I called SMS and immediately Neil was able to provide tips and tricks. The process was simple and Marshall was able to learn quickly. Even now that our training has completed, we can send Neil a text with an issue and he is quick to reply with how to correct a behavior.Marshall still doesnt like when we leave, but we are working on it. This program set a great foundation for his continued improvement.Thanks Neil!

Absolutely loved the trainers and facility. Super professional and very good with dogs. Any time my dog, Saint, sees them he goes ballistic with excitement and wants all their attention. They show a tremendous amount of love to all the dogs. They really helped my dog out with all his bad behavior issues and training needs.

They were amazing! Sam took my wild, headstrong Vizsla and turned him into a refined gentleman. He comes when we call him, we can take him for walks to Central Park. He is an angel! Samantha and Neil literally saved my foster dog, Tate. She was catatonic and wouldt even leave her crate. After one session with them she was walking on a leash and using her place board. After the 3rd session she was basically a normal dog, she loves the park, is friendly to people and very obedient. My mind is literally blown and I cant thank them enough!

Very irresponsible! I had scheduled a phone consultation with Neil on a Saturday. On that day, I received a text letting me know that in 15mins he was going to call, I waited for an hour and never got a call. I texted Neil to let him know how disappointed I was with their service. I got a response back by him, telling me that he apologizes and that they got caught up with work. I completely understand that sometimes things happen. I told him that if they would’ve let me know beforehand, I wouldn’t have mind waiting or rescheduling. He once again responded back and told me he could make time for me to talk. I figured that I could give him another chance so, I told him yes. I let them know which day and time, but once again Neil left me hanging and I never got a response back.I wasn’t going to leave a review, but that was really rude and irresponsible of them to do.

I had a great experience with Sit Means Sit. I was very hesitant to take my dog to training because we had a bad experience previously. Neil spoke to me about the situation and made me feel very comfortable with starting training again.Tootsie thrived and she is still a mischievous little Girl but a better trained one! I especially like how I was given a lesson at the end of each day so I know what was done and how to work the skills at home.We love the group classes and will continue to go as long as they will have us!!I highly recommend them!! Neil, Sam & Dana are the best.

I cant say enough wonderful things about Sit Means Sit! Like many others, my family adopted a rescue dog during the pandemic. Levi is the sweetest dog on the planet, but he definitely had some behavioral issues we needed to deal with, including all the shoes and chair cushions he chewed and the cars and joggers he would bark and lunge at. When I first spoke with Neil, I asked him if he really thought I would see a difference in 8 weeks, and he told me Id see a difference after one day of training. And he wasnt wrong. They promised me my dream dog and they delivered! And its not only my family that noticed the change - several neighbors have commented on how well-behaved Levi is. He now sits when he sees a car approaching, and we havent lost any more shoes. Neil, Sam, and Dana are all fabulous and love the dogs as if theyre their own. I recommend them highly.

We were new puppy parents and our Golden Retriever was all they said he would be. Smart, food driven, and ENERGETIC!!! We are working parents and wanted the best life for our pup and knew we needed to give him better structure on learning how to be a polite member of the family. We were on a good path but we knew we needed a little help getting past sit, and lie down. Sit Means Sit had a great local program that was aligned with our values for our pup. We signed Boba up for puppy classes to learn a bit more about how to train and allow him to socialize with other pups his age. To our surprise our favorite part of the program was getting Neil and Sam in the Valhalla location. They are so professional but also real dog people. They truly care about the pups and their parents. Their advice and direction have been invaluable. Boba loves them and is very excited for every class. Sam and Neil are a great team and have a good grip on teaching the teacher.. Thanks Neil and Sam! If you love your dog and want them to be safe and polite call Sit Means Sit in Valhalla. We have been SO happy with Sit Means Sit program and the progress our Sadie made so quickly. Neil and Sam have provided us with the knowledge and tools to be confident owners of a well-behaved dog (we wish our kids listened so well!). They truly care about each dog and family they work with. Without our five training sessions with Neil, we would not have enjoyed our time with our dog Laika as much as we do now. When we first adopted Laika, neither we nor Laika knew how to communicate with each other. She bit both of us on separate occasions. Neil’s training sessions taught us how to use different body languages to give commands to Laika, and to use the “communicator”, the e-collar to communicate with her. Laika also learned to follow our commands. It worked. Laika is a different dog now. Both she and we still are taking Neil’s weekend group classes and to reinforce what we learned, and to learn more advanced commands. We really enjoyed and appreciated Neil’s training very much. We will definitely recommend Neil’s service to any dog owners who struggle with their dogs.
