Highly Recommend Canine Academy!Canine Academy has been an incredible experience for both my dog and me. What stood out the most was how much the training focused on me, the owner, rather than just the dog. The staff is highly engaged and provides great techniques that are easy to understand and implement. They take the time to approach each dog with personalized methods, recognizing that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. I really appreciated the tailored approach and the valuable skills I gained to better communicate with and train my dog. I highly recommend Canine Academy to anyone looking for effective, individualized training for their furry friend!

I cannot say enough good things about Canine Academy. I took the 8 week obedience school session with my Shepherd Lab mix and my mom took the puppy preschool session with her Mastiff Lab mix and we are both very pleased with the training and knowledge we received while attending classes. We received training from 3 different instructors, Colleen, Alex, and Gretchen. During class the instructors came around multiple times to make sure we were giving proper instruction to our dogs and even personalized special instruction or suggested something different for each dog if they needed it. All the instructors conducted themselves in a professional way and made for great learning environment while we were in our session. They always encouraged calling them to ask questions during the week if needed rather than waiting for the next class and were accommodating if you needed to miss a week, they made room for you in another class if you need to reschedule.10/10 recommend. I look forward to taking more classes at Canine Academy.

When I got my puppy, I knew instantly he was a handful. After many recommendations to send him to Canine Academy, I started bringing him to day care. He became more social with other dogs and I instantly noticed a difference. I then started him in private training and I cannot even express my gratitude for the hard work and energy that Colleen, Gretchen, Alex and Michelle put in for my little Stuart. I personally learned how to properly train my dog along with how to use positive reinforcements with him. He is an incredible dog who LOVES coming to Canine Academy. We have now gone through Basic Obedience training, Canine Good Citizen, a tricks class, and are about to start an agility class and much more (at only 15 months old). I am beyond thankful that Canine Academy is a part of our community and a part of our lives!

Canine Academy has an extremely knowledgeable and kind staff. My 7&1/2 month old Golden, Chrisy, and I are really learning so much. Once we’re finished with this 8 week obedience program, we’ll spend more time practicing then sign up for another program.I have a 2&1/2 year old Golden, Pete, that never went to classes and I’d like to get him enrolled in a program. He’s a good boy but needs some professional guidance. It’s never too late!!

I took my 5 month old adopted shepherd mix to canine academy originally for basic obedience with Colleen. This class was fantastic as I had grown up with dogs but never had to train one myself. The class size was small, and they always had time for questions and individual help. After this class we started doing daycare a few times a week to tire her out and improve socialization. A few months later we took a scent work class with Gretchen. This class was so much fun for me and my dog. It has given us a great activity to build our bond as well as tiring her out. This week I had a private training session with Alex.(my dog is now 1) We talked through some of the issues I want to work on and how best to tackle them. She showed me tools and techniques that have made training so much easier. Alex is extremely patient and wants you to walk out with the right knowledge and skills. The trainers are amazing and really care about you and your dog. Combined they have so much experience to tackle any problem The facility itself is very clean. I would recommend them to anybody. I plan to continue going here because every interaction has been so amazing.

We have a rescue dog from the Bahamas who has some issues. She fears strangers and new places to the point where she would panic going on walks. We started with a private session then completed basic obedience lessons and a board & train program at Canine Academy. They use positive reward & kindness to train. Bean now loves walks! She no longer gets frightened when she hears a dog bark or sees a new person. She’s more comfortable around other dogs and happier all around. I plan to continue working with them through doggie daycare to keep her socializing with other dogs. I want to stress that the staff uses positive rewards! They are patient, careful and kind. They tailor training to each dog’s needs. I would highly recommend them.

Canine Academy is a wonderful facility! The staff are so professional, friendly, warm and have a sincere love of dogs, including my own, Jack! We attended day care for the first 8 months of his life. He just LOVED coming each morning and I think this early socialization positively impacted his interactions with other dogs and people. It also gave him the leg up when he needed to begin training. Jack successfully graduated from Canine Academys Puppy Preschool and Basic Obedience classes. He also received training there for the AKA Canine Good Citizen Program and successfully passed his test and attained that title. Colleen, Gretchen, Michelle and Alex went above and beyond to assist me with Jacks training. They always took the time to answer any questions I had and also provided alternative solutions for me when something wasnt working. I would highly recommend Canine Academy for both its day care services and high quality training classes.

The team at Canine Academy is great! We took our dog Luna for basic obedience. Staff and Colleen, the lead trainer, are very patient and helpful. My husband and I learned how to teach basic commands like stay, wait, leave it, walk nicely, place and other skills to our rather stubborn and headstrong dog. Staff was very responsive to our ongoing needs through the training sessions and always returned inquiries, phone or email, within hours. We are considering further training and doggy daycare!

Ive been to Canine Academy twice with my girlfriend and her dog Oaklee for her Agility Classes. Ive thoroughly enjoyed myself both times! The environment is very inviting and friendly, and I love watching the dogs run through the courses and enjoy themselves!Im not positive, but I think Lisa is the name of the Trainer who teaches this particular class that we attend. She seems very knowledgeable, and is able to create courses that challenge both the dogs and their owners, and when something doesnt go right, shes very quick to give direction and examples on what went wrong, and how to correct it.All in all, I think this is a great place to bring your dog! Im not sure what other types of services they offer aside from Agility Classes, but thats something you could look into for yourself. If I wasnt confident that my dog would just run around the entire time, Id bring her here! Haha!

We adopted our German Shepherd in April, puppy training at Canine Academy immediately followed. My wife and I were so impressed both with the facility and staff that our puppy began doggie day care. She absolutely loves going to daycare. Recently we started the basic obedience class. Our dog has learned almost as much as we have. We took a vacation this October to the eastern shores. Our puppy behaved like she was a grown up trained dog. We stayed in hotels and her behavior was impeccable. We received several positive comments and we could only chalk it up to her training at the Canine Academy. From my wife and I thank you for everything! Ted and Amber Drews

If you want your dog well behaved around people, pets and surrounding environment, I’d highly recommend this facility. I have been following and recommending Colleen and Canine Academy both personally and professionally for 10+ years. I recently got a new puppy and thought she would be the perfect place to go since I have gone to her in the past with great results. I could not have been so wrong. We were completely ignored during class and received no help or instruction, at one put the instructor actually walked away from us while we were working on a command. I will note that Colleen herself was not teaching this class and it seemed that this instructor personally did not like either us or our puppy. My fiancé was so put off by how he was treated in class that he refused to return to the last two classes that I would not be able to attend with him due to my work schedule. When I contacted them to let them know that I was upset with the class and tell them my concerns I was given basically the brochure description of the class I was scheduled in and no real response or concern to my displeasure in their facility. I can no longer recommend this facility with a good conscience and have lucky found a place where me and my pet are welcome.

I scheduled a private lesson for my rescue puppy Hamilton and me with Gretchen Buckles at Canine Academy. He was lunging when he saw another dog, rabbit, squirrel, deer or a bird. All the collars and techniques I tried were failing. Gretchen met my puppy, and quickly analyzed what type of equipment I needed, which was a simple figure eight collar/leash. She taught me how to read the energy of other dogs on walks and what to do if he was fixated on them or a squirrel or bunny or bird or deer. She also provided many other helpful tips. Life has never been the same. We go on enjoyable hikes and walks on a loose leash in many different environments daily with success.Gretchen observed my puppy to see if he was a candidate for daycare/playcare. Originally he was at another facility which crated him the entire time he was there, unbeknownst to me, because according to them he did not come when called and was unmanageable. Gretchen evaluated my puppy for less than two minutes and came out and said there nothing is wrong with this puppy. I cried. Hamilton goes weekly to playcare at the Canine Academy and is a very happy puppy. Everyone there is professional and kind to both him and me. It is a clean, beautiful, professional facility that not only cares for my puppy but likes him.I’m able to text Gretchen with questions I have and she responds immediately. Her support has been invaluable! Gretchen steered us into classes in which she thought would build my puppy’s confidence and where he might excel, and his confidence is growing in leaps and bounds. He is having great success and we are both having fun and strengthening our bond.I am looking forward to future classes at the Canine Academy, weekly playcare, and Gretchen’s generous, skilled support. I wish I could give more than five stars to this facility and to Gretchen.

Just finished our 5th class with canine academy and had a few private lessons as well. Cannot recommend them highly enough! Excellent experience every class. Some of why we will continue to recommend and attend classes with them1) Our Presa Canarios were welcomed, this breed is large, protective and at most times reactive. The staff are well educated on the breed and their traits, our dogs were never punished for their “natural” reactions to things but we learned how to work with them.2) They are HONEST. Good, bad and ugly, you will constantly get feedback and they will work with dog and owner to correct and find solutions.3) Lots is positive reinforcement and information on how to continue what you learn in class into the community.

Best place to take your dog. We did puppy tranningand Daycare. It taught our dog great social skills and overall just tired her out all day as a puppy for a great price. We recently went on a vacation and brought her back after 2 years to refresh on some tranning. The staff went above and beyond for our Boxadore Lexi. Her 10 day tranning was everything we hoped for and got us on the path to continue to work to give our dog the best life we can give her. Best money I have spent. Would recommend this to everyone. Even if your just thinking about anything go talk to the ladies there they will help you any way possible. I can’t thank them enough for all the amazing work they did at a great price.

Unless your dog is a super star in training classes, dont bother going here. As a new dog owner, I was looking for a place that would give me hands on training (for example, demonstrating the command with my dog when she is unsuccessful, instead of just telling me what I did wrong and what I should be doing). A place with lots of positive reinforcement for both myself and my dog. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. After weeks of an unsuccessful, unfavorable experience, I am happy to be done with this place and will look for training classes that celebrate the little successes that a dog makes, that gives an abundance of guidance and support and who makes you feel like you can achieve success if given the right tools and direction. This place was also uninterested and unsympathetic in the feedback provided regarding these concerns. Dog Trainees beware....

Before our first session of puppy class, Colleen had us come in for a one-on-one consultation to discuss both our training goals and the particular issues we were having with our puppy, Wiley. When she learned our primary concern was Wiley’s biting and jumping, she talked with us about strategies for curbing those behaviors, made notes in our file and sent us home with some literature on those problems so we could get a headstart. On the first day of class, the trainers went around the room to each family and discussed the notes in the files and how best to customize class for those specific issues. We had frustrations mixed among the successes, but after each class my partner and I had the same discussion on the drive home: “We’re so happy we found Canine Academy!”After Wiley passed his “Puppy Preschool” final exam (complete with certificate), we enrolled in the Basic Obedience class. Just as before, it was clear this was not a one-size-fits-all class, and the staff was genuinely interested in helping us work with our dog: They were thoughtful, helpful, and professional in every session, and suggested a number of tips and tricks to deal with the specific difficulties we were having with Wiley. In other words, they showed us an array of techniques and kept working until we found the best way to teach Wiley. After graduation (another certificate!) we enrolled in Advanced Obedience. This class was held outside at area parks, presenting a wide range of distractions to challenge us. Among other things, Wiley had a very strong desire to chase cars, but our trainer Alex showed us how to re-direct Wiley’s behavior away from such dangerous impulses. She taught, nudged, pushed, and guided us all the way until Wiley earned his AKC “Canine Good Citizen” title, something I had never thought was even a possibility. I hope she is as proud of him as we are grateful to her.Obviously, group classes can’t be about the Canine Academy staff magically training your dog for you in 60 minutes: they are about teaching YOU how to effectively communicate to your dog what is expected of him or her so you can have productive practice time. In reality, the Canine Academy staff trains dog OWNERS, and they do an exceptional job. We’ve worked with Colleen, Gretchen, Michelle, and Alex, and each one of them has been professional, helpful, and genuinely concerned about both Wiley’s progress and his well-being. They’ve been extraordinarily patient with my endless questions about why Wiley does what he does, and about why they teach what they teach. Wiley is a much better dog--and we are a much happier family—because of their efforts.
