We had such an amazing experience adopting our sweet girl from Paws Crossed! The application was easy and super user friendly. The staff was so kind and helpful. They answered all of our questions and gave us as much time as we needed to decide on our pup. You can tell how each animal in their care is so loved. There were so many volunteers/staff walking and playing with the animals when we arrived. When we adopted our puppy, we were given so much helpful information and Paws Crossed has stayed in contact with us to make sure everything is going smoothly. I cannot recommend this rescue enough! Photos of our sweet girl attached ♥️🐾

I cannot say enough good things about this rescue! First of all, they were very easy to work with, which I really appreciated, as some rescues can be a bit intimidating in their applications and interviews. I felt very comfortable with each person I met during my visit to meet my new pup, Sheba/now Sunny. Everyone was very welcoming and also very knowledgeable, both staff and volunteers. The dog I adopted was very anxious and scared, so we couldnt really touch her at all during our meet and greet. But I received very good guidance from both Tamir, who handled the adoption, and also from Joe, a trainer at this facility, and everything worked out just fine.It was busy on a Saturday, in a good way... several dogs being walked, others being taken in and out of play/meet and greet areas, several people tending to and also visiting the cats. The facility is beautiful and clean. The animals are clearly very well cared for and loved by all, but the people who work and volunteer here... I have to say that they are the best part of all. I would definitely adopt from Paws Crossed again.

This is the best animal shelter I have come across. Great facilities, smooth application process, and the best part is their staff members. All of them are wonderful but a special thank you to Emily and Bella who made the adoption process easy, and even helped me for weeks after coordinating some follow up vet visits that my fur baby needed. They were responsive on email and phone, anwsered all my questions. They truly care about the pets they adopt out and are passionate in what they do. I cant thank the paws crossed team enough. “Manisia”, now Willow, is so happy in her home and she has brought me so much joy. Please consider adopting senior pets, mine is just a JOY! Thank you Paws Crossed, I highly reccomend you!!

I visited Paws Crossed a few days after Christmas looking to adopt a cat. I was so impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the entire staff, and also by the cleanliness and size of the actual facility. Sue showed us around and introduced us to Cora (whom I had asked about after seeing her picture on their website!) and I immediately fell in love. Cora was housed in a spacious, clean, and well equipped room with a small number of other cats. Sue provided us with plenty of information about Cora and was incredibly sweet, helpful, and all around wonderful to work with.Once I decided that Cora was the cat for me, I filled out an application up front. Tara immediately got to work calling vet and personal references, and quickly got my application approved. In under an hour, we were on our way home with the newest family member. The rescue sells very reasonably priced new & used pet carriers, beds, and litter boxes, so I was able to get everything I needed to get Cora started. Tara helped us pick out these items, and also threw in some toys, a stuffed animal, and a blanket that Cora particularly liked so that she would be more comfortable. A few days later, I had a question about Cora and received a quick response from Tara over e-mail.Overall, I had an amazing experience at Paws Crossed. The entire staff was so kind, and clearly had the best interest of the animals always in mind. I will definitely return to Paws Crossed next time I am looking to adopt! Thank you for running such a wonderful rescue organization - and special thanks to Sue and Tara for helping bring Cora into my life! I love her so much already :)

Im so happy with my experience with Paws Crossed. They really did make you feel welcome, every staff member was extremely helpful answering every question and going as far as to cat-test a dog for me when I asked them to. They also were EXTREMELY transparent about each dogs medical history providing information which was such a relief because I never felt blindsided at any point. When I mentioned that I was interested in a puppy Ariel was super quick to introduce Pierre to me and from there I fell in love. The actual shelters set up is really amazing with multiple fenced areas to really see the dogs temperament in an off leash setting. You can tell everyone in the rescue really cares for these animals, especially when I was taking my new baby to the car, everyone congratulated me and really seemed happy that another dog was being adopted. 1000/10, if you are looking to adopt try apply here.

Initially, I was really pleased with Paws Crossed when we adopted our kitten from them in 2021. The process was smooth and the employees were extremely helpful and friendly.Im not so happy with my more recent experience at Paws Crossed. Im looking to add another dog to the family. In my current household I have 4 cats and a dog. I got pre-approved and emailed with questions about a particular dog and how she would be with cats. They cat tested her the next day and she did great, they tested another dog as well who also did fine. I went down there the following weekend only to find out the initial dog I was interested in was being adopted. I wasted an hour drive, but I get it, first come first serve.I emailed the following week about another dog. I was told she had a similar temperament and they could cat test her for me. They mentioned they thought it was going to go well since shes pretty laid back. I didnt get a response so I followed up. This person I havent communicated with, Tempestt then replies to the email thread telling me they dont cat test the dogs there. How can that be when the other dogs were cat tested by a different employee?Whats even more bothersome is many of the dogs on their website are listed as cat friendly when clearly this is false information, after all, supposedly they dont cat test there. I understand seeing how a dog reacts within a few minutes to cats is not a foolproof way of finding out and nothing is guarantee, but it certainly rules out dogs with strong prey drives or dogs that get too over-stimulated. The last thing Id ever want to do is return an animal to a shelter. I also dont want to put my own pets at risk gambling with a dog that I have no indication of their behavior just being in the presence of a cat.Im very disappointed in this shelter, especially after my great initial first experience. I do not recommend adopting a dog from this shelter if you have cats in your household. Adopting out a dog listed as cat friendly to a cat inclusive household without confirmation of their cat friendly behavior is extremely irresponsible and dangerous. For the safety of my pets, I will be adopting elsewhere.

They are taking really good care to the animals in there. Everything is clean and organized. The volunteers and the staff are amazing. They help us a lot when we got Beasley. Gave us all the information and the support we needed as new parents. Beasley is a rescue from a high kill shelter in Georgia. He was brought all the way up here to Westchester. He was really shy and scared when we first saw him. Now he is a happy, friendly and excited dog :) TheThank you Paws Crossed for letting us have little Beasley in our lives. I can tell all of the staff love being there, and it was great to see several of them walking dogs and giving them love throughout our time there. I went to paws crossed very recently. Initially the experience was great. We were able to see the entire collection of cats/dogs they had there after completing an application. Sue and another girl who’s name I can’t remember but had green hair were more then helpful, polite and friendly. They did everything they could to help get me approved as soon as possible and on the spot. Now the adoption process is on a first come first serve basis, which is well understood. After selecting a cat of our preference we stood in the room waiting with this particular cat. We were told that we could wait in the room with him as our application was getting processed. Here is where things took a turn. We were essentially kicked out of the room by Temist. We were told the cat was overwhelmed and uncomfortable, mind you the cat was purring with us and sleeping with us, but we did as were told and left the room. We then scrambled to get references on the phone (no more then 5-10 minutes). As we’re on the phone with references we were again told by Temist that the cat now belonged to somebody else. Again, I understand first come first serve basis and maybe our application was not submitted before someone else’s. Now I work in a profession where giving tough news to people is all about delivery. The conversation went something like “hey are you interested in “this cat”, to which the answer was yes. Then a two hand slap to the table and a point to another family and a “well they are going with someone else”. A simple sorry, however someone else’s application was processed before yours would have been more then enough. I want to reiterate that the issue is not with the news, more so the delivery of this news. I also again want to highlight the people that did help us, as they were understanding and helpful so HUGE thank you to those individuals. Unfortunately, I would not go back to be adopting here. I, in no way, want to discourage anybody from adopting, but I do want to express my experience here.

We adopted a German Shepard mix puppy from here a while ago because my one and a half year old daughter loves dogs and I wanted to get her a new playmate. When I first brought Tortuga home, she instantly barked at the sight of my daughter and scared her greatly. So we kept Tortuga in the other room for a few days so that she would have some time to adjust to the new space and feel more comfortable. Whenever we tried to bring the puppy into the same room as her she would growl and stay back. In the last couple days we had her, I was bringing her outside of the room to leave out the front door and Tortuga lunged at my girl and bit her. And I know that it isn’t the shelters fault because how would they know that the dog would react like this so I brought the pup back to the shelter and requested a refund as I only had her for less than a week. They accepted the request which I really appreciated because I obviously could not keep her after she bit my daughter. Two months have passed and I go back to the shelter looking for a family cat. As soon as I walk into the trailer the employees stop and give me a look. I asked Emily, one of the employees if I could take a look at the available cats and she was very sweet and accommodating. Another one of the employees came up to me while I was taking a look and told me that they would not be able to approve my application just because it didn’t work out with Tortuga. I think that’s extremely unfair and unprofessional as it broke my heart to return the dog but had to to keep my daughter safe and out of harms way.

We were able to visit Rocco and get all of the questions we had answered and spent some time with him and we already knew he was the one. Unfortunately we already had a vacation planned that week and we really didnt want him to get adopted by someone else. With the help of their staff, we were able to adopt him and board him there for a couple of days until we got back. This accommodation alleviated so much stress for us and we feel so lucky to have been able to work with this center. Heartbroken is how I want to begin this review. We adopted our wonderful dog in April 2021 and in December 2021 we said goodbye to her. We found out in October that she had kidney issues and they progressively got worse. Rewind to adoption day, we were told that she had Lyme disease AFTER we signed the paperwork and were charged the fee, the dosing of her medicine wasnt even correct. Every month we were bringing her to the vet for something until we finally found out in October that she had kidney disease. When we contacted the shelter they sent us PAGES of her medical history, which was previously not disclosed to us. I would not recommend this shelter at all. My family is heartbroken over the loss of our dog.

My family loves Paws Crossed. We wanted to see several dogs but were only able to see one. The others were getting Behavior Training. It sounds like a bad thing but its not! Im so happy that they care enough about these dogs to give them special attention like that. I particularly liked seeing the setup. The dogs all have an indoor area and an area that opens to a big lawn. You can see them from the fence - we actually wanted to see a couple up close just from observing them this way. I also like the play areas they have set up. We werent allowed indoors because of Covid precautions, which is also good. The other good thing is that they are allowing volunteers to come in and walk/play with the dogs. And, oh yeah! We ended up taking that dog home! They held a detailed information session with us, including the rest of his heartworm medicine, a no-charge follow up for that, a 30 day trial of Trupanion and lots of information about our dog.

The only con was that after adopting and paying a couple hundred dollars for your pet youd think you get a simple leash and collar but you have to pay for it yourself and the goodie bag they gave us was a used up bag with two toys inside. One toy looked like it was chewed on already. I found that to be pretty cheap.

I have to speake the truth with out any discrimination against nobody. I put an application to adopt a cat. I came today at 12:30 and signed all the paper and paid $175 for the can. Also I was forced to buy a pet carrier for $35. When I was handed her paper, I was told that the cat is due for her rabie shot. I simply said I thought all the pets in this shelter are up to date with their shots according to the website. I was informed that the shelter is not required by the law to give their pet the rabie shot. I said okay,” can I have a paper from you guys stating that?” They gave me a phone Number of a person to call. I took the number however theSupervisor stated that my demeanor made her feel as if she was a liar. I stated that I apologize that you felt that way however I have the right as a customer who paid $175 to ask for the right information. I did not accuse nobody of lying or anything else. So the supervisor stated that she is not feeling comfortable with me adopting the cat. I don’t understand why. Is it because I asked for the right info?! Or is it because I was looking for honesty?! This is not professional at all.

I feel like they no very minimum/ if anything about their dogs & its a real disadvantage for their animals. Like every question was a vague response. Its not often I write reviews so that alone should be a statement. Let me start off by saying what an amazing rescue! The people here are only exceeded in their friendliness by the animals that they care for. Everyone was so helpful and kind that you almost want to stay yourself! Paws Crossed is very well maintained; its clean and organized, which is not common for a not for profit. To say the staff are genuinely here in the interest of the animals that reside within is a complete understatement! Everything everyone does in some capacity directly affects the wonderful loving animals inside. In my opinion when your selecting a new family member, its history and current surroundings are very important. Paws Crossed goes beyond any and all expectations to ensure each furry is ready to be lovingly welcomed and begin their life in a new home. I couldnt think of a better rescue to adopt from or to volunteer at! Thanks again to everyone for all they do, and keep rescuing one by one until there are none! 🐶❤🐱

Ge
Review №124

Paws Crossed Animal Rescue is easily the best rescue Ive been to when looking to adopt a pet. The one thing you should take from this review, if you take nothing else, is that they match pets to the right owner, not the other way around. Their concern is for the well-being of the animals under their care - first and foremost. Theyre super friendly, accommodating and helpful, dont get me wrong - but its clear that they want to be sure the animal is comfortable with you.I first fostered a dog with heartworm from them and throughout the whole process they were amazing. From the outdoor spaces each animal gets to themselves which also has a door to an indoor space where if they dont like a person they dont have to interact with them; to the fact that in order to adopt an animal you have to meet the animal in a fenced in grassy area and interact w/them; to the way the animals seem to love the staff - everything just felt right. The dog I fostered wasnt comfortable in the area I lived (he needed a place much more quiet) and Paws Crossed helped me to understand that and accommodate him by finding him a better foster (actually permanent!) home.Ultimately, I wound up adopting a puppy the day I brought the foster dog back, and Ive continued to recommend Paws Crossed to anyone who asks where I found my dog. They continue to impress everyone Ive sent, and its really refreshing to find people who genuinely care about animals and dont showcase them to you in a 3 foot by 3 foot cage stacked 3 on top of each other.Again - I cant recommend them more highly - theyre just great people who care about animals so much, and it shows in how their whole process works and how the animals love them. (And us adopters too!)
