Forest Park Barking Lot

While spacious, the small dog area has absolutely no shady area for dogs or their humans. The large dog area is quite roomy and shady. The play area on both sides is dirt and the slightest breeze blows the dirt dust around. There is a water hose but no fountain as in many other dog runs I’ve been to. If you come by car there doesn’t seem to be any parking area nearby except on street which is strange for such a large park.

Pretty great place to bring your dog. They have 2 sides- 1 for big dogs and 1 for small.They have seats available on both sides as well as toys left behind my owners. There is also water bowls there for your thirsty dogs. There’s a park nearby as well. It’s a good location for the entire family!

A good group of locals and regular dogs here with the occasional irresponsible owner. When it’s quiet and I see friendly faces I’ll let my dog play otherwise it’s a toss up! The regulars do their best to make it feel like a welcoming community space!

My daughter celebrated her Goldendoodle 4th Birthday here with balloons and all. Excellent location on a weekend.

After moving from Oceanside area to Forest Hills, I realize turf is better than dirt. Watering areas get extremely muddy and the toys/tennis balls get gross. However, its a decent size and my dog still loves it. Walk your dog around before letting them in your car because they will tread dirt.

This barking lot has plenty of spaces for parking and it is near a dog run where big and small dogs are separated by fenced-in area.

The Forest Park Barking Lot, at the Overlook on the east edge of Forest Park, is a good, friendly spot, a fun place for dogs to play and for their humans to chat. Its well-maintained, always stocked with bags. Volunteers bring an enormous full water dispenser every morning, since theres no water fountain inside. The run sits just to the east of the Forest Park hiking trails, too, if youd like to take in a little city nature with your pup before a dog run romp.The Barking Lot is considerably further on foot from my house than the other Forest Park dog run, K9 Korral, so I dont go there as often as Id like in colder weather, but Im a member. I like to support upkeep, and membership entitles me to great benefits, including discounts at K9 Caterers, my favorite local pet supply store. The board members are very straightforward about their plans for improvements and the estimated cost, too.The Barking Lot welcomes volunteers and suggestions, and their website is inviting and informative if youd like to get involved.

OKAY park for family members to attend a picnic with friends and family needs to put in benches and bbq grills for families to have to cook 🍳 they 🔥 hot and Franks for the family members and quest 👍 👌 okay dog park for your dog 🐕 to enjoy rest rooms needs to be open until at least 8: 00 p.m. when everyone is getting themselves together to leave to go 🏡 home. Well kept dog park, very very clean! Dogs are also friendly and there is a sense of community here

I wish more people would not have their dog off the leash in the park, but use the doggy park instead.

Great spot for dogs, mainly because the pet owners that frequent the park are people who are responsible with friendly dogs. Occasionally youll have douchebags with aggressive dogs but this isnt always the case. The only issue with this place honestly, is that the ground is primarily dirt as opposed to grass or mulch, so expect your dog to get a little dirty or muddy (after it rains. There is a hose available to quickly wash the excess dirt off them) There are bowls available for water, just make sure you rinse them out. Overall a great place with great people and pets.

The Barking Lot is always clean and I love how they installed the water bowls by the benches now for our fur babies. The space for the big dogs is huge which is great.

Chauncey loves it. He and his daddy visits all the time. Clean and friendly environment, what more can you ask for.

Been roughly 4 times - owners were attentive and dogs were well behaved. The park itself is large and there are restrooms nearby in the park for humans. All around good stuff!

Have been here with my pup twice and its ok. My pup doesnt seem to like turf and likes running around here. We have only been to the area for small dogs. A dog run with just dirt is not my ideal place to take him but its what he enjoys 🤷🏻‍♂️. So 1 main thing I really did not like about this place is that people come here with their young children, no pets of their own and then just let them go loose in there. It happened both times I went there.

Easy access, well taken care of by the community. Has access to a hose for water and bowls in the play areas. The space does predominantly consist of dirt so not the best place to go after it rains unless you want to treat your pups to a mud bath.

Really excellent enclosed dog run with an airlock-style entry gate and a great community. Its big enough for most dogs to get a good game of fetch in. The drainage is pretty good but I havent been there after a really big downpour so maybe it gets muddy eventually. The only thing its missing (besides running water) is a separate run for little dogs.

Not a fan of dogs. I like them but I do not want them to lick me. With that said 5 stars for the fact they do not bark or cause any noise. So it allows you to have a relaxing time sitting under the trees, enjoying the weather.

Great job renovation. There is a water source in the summer. Plenty of space to run and benches to relax. Dog lovers are friendly neighbors from Forest Hills and Kew Gardens. Only criticism is the drainage needs improvement and wood chips to prevent mud. My favorite dog park in the 5 boroughs.

Nice open area for all dogs and dog owners to mingle. Even seats for owners are placed inside the lot, so that you can rest and watch you dog the who time. Safe and secure with a double gate system, so its very unlikely for dogs to run away.

I havent had a dog of my own since my Mandy passed. I love dogs probably above all of Gods creatures. I love this dog park my dog would have lived it too. I go there just to watch them play, it does my soul good.

Not a good place for small breed dogs. I have personally seen big dogs get into nasty fights with other big dogs virtually every weekend. I have seen little dogs trampled by big dogs while playing. Not a safe place for small breed dogs. Parks department needs to do better. I give them a grade F. Steer clear of this place if you care about the safety of your dogs.

Beautiful Forest Park. Nice to spend time. People can walk around the area. There is lot of sitting chairs to enjoy the beauty. more helpful if it has man made umbrellas to protect suddenly raining.

Pretty good place to take your dog. The park is perfect for exercising with your dog. Only issue is that’s there’s no fountain for water so remember to bring plenty of water for your dogs.

Great for hiking,and much more. Family ,pets and lots of chipmunks. Forest park is big. Be careful track where you park or you might come out on other side with tired dogs who cant walk anymore and family . then have to take a uber to get your car to rescue them 😂 😂 😂

When my family comes down to visit, we bring our dogs here to socialize and burn off puppy energy. The washing (hose) station is great new addition for pups who get dirty while playing!

Great group of people and dogs. Bathroom, parking, playground, handball courts all right by. Medium sized run, rather muddy. That said, its the people and pets that really make a place. Looking forward to going more often.

This place is fantastic. Tons of friendly, playful dogs (with the occasional grouchy dog, unsurprisingly), plenty of space and a whole park to explore besides. Whats not to like?

The barking lot is the offleash dog park in Forest Park. It is well maintained by volunteers and visitors as well, as far as my experience has been. Water available,and garbage cans. A small dog section also.

Very wide and open area available for all diffrent dogs. Dog owers are also allowed inside. There is a two gate system that will allow dogs to come in and out without being let loose or putting other dogs in that position. Although, it is close to a road with cars coming uphill, so it can be dangerous if a dog gets loose, where the car cant see.

My coworker lives in Kew Gardens also thats where she takes her dog its a nice place and the dogs seem to have fun and like it too.

Decent sized space. Lots of dogs at different times of the day. I go there daily, but with the recent weather its been a muddy swamp. If you just cleaned your dog, then avoid for a few days!

Great experience, clean, big enough for the dogs to run around unlike other parks i have been to. Everyone makes sure their dog is well behaved

We do enjoy watching the dogs gambol, but I must plead to being a cat person.We also enjoy watching the kids gambol, and especially the wonderful diversity of the population: men with yarmulkes, women in hijabs, blacks, whites, browns. [The diversity of the dogs even more so: as a geneticist observed at the conclusion of the Human Genome Project, if humans were dogs, wed all be the same breed. However, I digress.]For someone like me who doesnt believe in life after death, a warm late afternoon sojourn near the Overlook Dog Run is as close to heaven as I expect to get. I usually leave humming imagine all the people living life in peace.In a word, I find it transcendental.

I took my Pomorinian there today, it was the first time I ever took my dog to a dog park and I was a bit nervous but she had a great time and what I really like is they have 2 sections for dogs one for big dogs and one for small dogs, its a nice wide space with benches and the people are very nice there, I highly recommend the place for all dogs, I know I will be back there often.

The dog park is very good. it is big , clean and the big dogs are separated from the little ones.

This was my first visit. The dog park is very large and well kept. The people and dogs I encountered were a friendly bunch. Blade and I will go back again.

Great areas to bring your dogs. Large dog park for dogs over 30lbs and small dog park for dogs under 30lbs. Clean space. My dog loves it there.The large dog park has some draining issues, it often has a large puddle in the center. So, the big dogs move into the small dog park.

Very safe place to take your dog off leash. Plenty of room for the dog to run.

I dont have a dog but I love to sit on a bench and watch all the cute dogs that play there. They seem to have a lot of fun so I would recommend this dog park to anyone that is a dog owner.

This place is great I dont own a dog now but I did onces its so nice to see different dogs playing,running and dog owners playing ball I have grandkids and they LOVE to play with the dogs

The Barking Lot is still not open even though dog parks around the city have been cleared to be open for almost a month. On top of which there is no water source for our fur babies.

Passed by the Barking lot several times... and... all I can say is that you and your pet dog/s will surely enjoy this place. The dog park is clean and tidy...

Luv this dog park, its clean no dog poop they provide doggie bags, water bowls, there is a hose n racks, garbage bags for all to chip in and help keep the place clean

Dog park just recently reopened after a complete renovation. Has a section for small dogs which is great for my little puppy.

Large dog run, lots of trash cans and the dogs were friendly. Wish it was grassy but this is NYC so thats unheard of here.

Its the heart of this neighborhood. Nicely maintained by volunteers from the neighborhood. Occasionally there are some people there who make a mess or do not follow the rules - but in general its a very respectful, pleasant, cheerful, neighborhood dog park - where most people know one another and control their dogs to be respectful of others.

The small and large dog areas are spacious. Fresh water is available along with dog waste bags at our disposal. I cannot say how much I love the space. There is a catch: you must keep your eye on your dog. My dog was bit twice at this park, both a month apart. I cannot turn my head away from my dog for one second without her being followed by another dog. I believe that every owner must know the signs when a dog becomes overly excited and will not back down from chasing after another dog. It is a cue for disaster. So please, please, for the love of all pups, please watch your dog and BE IN CONTROL. I cannot stress that enough as it applies not only to other dog owners, but also to myself. No body deserves to get bitten by a dog.

A very well maintained dog park thats divided into two areas. The larger area is made for dogs >30lbs and the smaller for under 30lbs. This place is extremely popular on the weekends especially from 11-3pm. Doggie bags are available for free, which is a nice touch. I just wish there was more seating.

Nice volunteer run dog park. We bring our frenchie here regularly. During non business hours you can use the parking lot in front of the Parks building. I believe it will be closing down sometime after summer 2018 and they are converting it to a proper city run dog run, so keep at eye out for that.
