I highly recommend quail run kennel for training your dog! The instructors are like dog whisperers, and we have learned so much with each class! Before these classes, my dog used to jump around like a kangaroo, was tugging on the leash, and hard to control when walking. After just a few classes, Benny can walk with a loose leash, and no longer lunges or pulls towards other dogs or people. The results are amazing, people have even asked if our dog is a service dog in public! Also, the instructors have a great sense of humor, and are incredibly knowledgeable. I will definitely be signing up for off leash training next!
I have boarded my dogs here multiple times and always a good experience. Both dogs can be difficult at times, but they understand their needs and are accommodating. Owners and all staff are always pleasant, helpful, and caring. Easy drop off and pick up. Dogs are always tired and “happy” when I pick them up. Thank you, Quail Run!
Great Kennel with very knowledgeable staff and excellent training group. Don does a great job and has been for 40 years
Don is amazing with his dog training. He truly understands the dogs and their the behavior. He accomplished so much is a sort amount of time with our dog... he was just great!
Our dog has boarded here for years. The staff/owners are always pleasant and friendly! Our dog has a difficult personality and they completely understand him, know how to handle him and respect his needs. Thank you Quail Run!
Don and the team at Quail Run Kennel... Are truly a first class operation! If youre looking to train your dog whether young or old this is the place to do it hands down! As Don says dogs are easy to train people not so much! I highly recommend to get in touch with them if you want your dog to be obedient and committed to your every direction!
My 1 year old Doberman has been causing me so much worry and concern with her aggressiveness toward strangers. I called Quail and spoke with Patty on the phone. With how worried I was she offered to have us come in for an evaluation with Don. There was an opening the next day...we went! After meeting with Don and Speedy (another trainer on site) I went from feeling like my dog was Cujo to understanding more as to why she exhibits the behaviors she does and ways to help manage her. While the process may at first seem overwhelming I left the office with hope that we can work through this and provide a more structured and happy life for our canine. Literally, my dog was laying at Dons feet at the end of the evaluation.Quail run has an awesome team that will tell you how it is, no sugar coating the problems; Don knows his stuff and what works, works. He cares about the animals and wants to genuinely help people and their dogs.
We love this kennel!!! The staff is so caring and compassionate. We have take our 3 year old English Bulldog there since she was 6 months old to be boarded. English Bulldogs are very sensitive to heat, cold and our has allergies. The staff has always kept a watchful eye on our dog, Violet. When we bring her there she gets so excited because they get so excited to see her. We would never leave her with anyone else! Their prices are very reasonable too. You can tell they love what they do. We also took her there for dog training classes. Don is the best dog trainer around. We had some food aggression issues and Don took time for his day to help us. Truly amazing people!!!
I absolutely recommend Don Sterling for anyone looking to train their dog or correct undesirable behavior. Mr. Sterling and Patty were so kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable with me and my dog. I truly cannot recommend their training enough.I had taken my brothers German shepherd to multiple trainers due to uncontrollable barking at any strangers. None of the trainers had any answers as to why he was barking and would just give vague solutions to solve it.After about 2 months of no progress I was blessed in finding Quail Run kennels and meeting Mr. Sterling. After explaining my problem on the phone, Mr. Sterling scheduled an appointment immediately and took more than an hour out of his day to help me understand and correct the barking. The next day I immediately saw progress and improvement in his behavior. At his own pace my dog is able to approach strangers and feel more secure, comfortable, and happy!I learned much more in the wonderful time I spent with Mr. Sterling than I had in all the other general puppy classes combined.I am looking forward to taking the group classes in the spring and can’t wait! The property is absolutely stunning and very welcoming. If you have any dog, especially a German Shepherd, this is the place for you! Thank you Mr. Sterling and Patty!
The training for our 9 month old German Shepherd was very good. Prior to training at Quail Run we could not walk out our front door without wrestling with this dog and were never able to walk him down our street. Now he walks daily with no pulling, even downtown main street. He is such a pleasure to walk with. The trainers at Quail Run are excellent, each class had multiple trainers to offer all the help needed to master handling our dog. We are very thankful for Quail Runs Dog Training that works.
We have gone to Quail Run for our dog training for over 30 years. Don Sterling and Patty are awesome. From beginner to advanced off leash training its the best. If you like good old fashioned no nonsense training this it the place. We had one dog that we thought we would never get under control and they helped us turn him into a great family pet. 👍👍👍
Horrible horrible place….picked up our puppy from being in the kennel and he was all chopped up with some random hair cut. We never said cut his hairAll they said was we tried to give a bath and he wanted nothing to do with. We never asked for a bath eitherHe smelled like nasty fishHe was very mellow and not himself when we got himHe’s usually very hyper and beyond excited to see us and he wasn’tThey even said he was very quiet whole time which is unlike our dog too. He’s alway so happy and excited to see anyone.I gave food and even gave a ton more just to see if they would scoop correct amount and they used all the food up so that says they didn’t do it correctly. He was sleeping for like 3 days straight after and had diarrhea. Also another dog who went same time came home feeling the same way.We tried asking questions when we dropped him off since it was his first time and they just grabbed him and ran off and told us we had to leave. We asked to walk him in back or at least see where he would be and they told us no.When we picked him up they didn’t allow us to ask questions either they just handed him over and told us to head outWe had him groomed after the visit and our groomer goes where in the world was he and who gave him a horrible chopped hair cut? He smells horrible. They told us we have never seen a dog look and smell this bad before. No explanation, no giving us a heads up for whatever reason they chopped him up forWe will absolutely never returnFor anyone else who attempts to go here take before pictures and after pics you could be next.I don’t know how this company has been in business for so longThey should be shut down
They provided the service I paid for - they boarded my dogs while I was away. But I will never return. I failed to read what I was signing when I left my dogs in their care, and only after did I see this written on the receipt / contract: Pets left for 15 days after discharge date will be disposed of in any manner the management sees fit after notification by registered mail.. So if I was to get into an accident or whatever other unforseen circumstance that may arise... theres no calling an emergency contact, calling a rescue group or shelter, none if that. They just kill my dog. However they chose to do so. Insane.... Also, as others have posted, they chain smoke and everything smells horrible. Even while you are standing in the office with them, there is zero courtesy to keep the smoke away and a sign declaring that smoking is permitted.
We took our 1 year old Husky/Shepherd mix to get trained here. We saw a difference in just one session! Don and Patti are amazing. They know exactly what they are doing. They’ve been doing this for a long time and I can see why. It is absolutely worth the money to bring your dog here to get trained!
My dog Baxter has been there many timesDo you have snow problem being there in the dough? Go waste comes back and good shape. A little pricey but they do feed the dog Good food
Don and Patty are the best in the business. My dog has an abnormal amount of energy, and Mr. Sterling had him sitting calmly in a matter of seconds. He took time out of his day to explain what I need to do as a dog owner to give my dog the greatest chance of success. To anyone with a large, energetic breed I cannot recommend Quail Run Kennel highly enough. If youre frustrated with your dogs behavior Don and Patty will steer you on the right path.
Was having aggression problems with my lab. Called up and spoke to Don and explained to him the situation. He told me to come down right away so he can meet my puppy and see whats going on. He spent over an hour with us and wouldnt take a dime. He taught us a few things to do and gave us great advice. Well for sure have our dog in his next obedience class in September. It was amazing to see him take full control of our dog within seconds. Youll get a bunch of laughs listening to him. Highly recommended
I have taken three dogs to Don Sterling for training over many years. This latest one is younger than the others and she is responding beautifully. Each dog progressed to off lead training. Believe me, this training can save your dogs life. You dont want your dog running out into the street and getting hit by a car. This training will stop a running dog in its tracks before it gets hurt.My dog is a joy to walk now whereas prior to classes, she was a maniac. Now shes well behaved, looks to me for praise, and is well on her way to off the lead training. One can certainly take their dog elsewhere to learn tricks and to comply using a piece of liverwurst as a bribe, but thats not obedience. The dog must want to do something for you to please you. Don makes that happen. Its all about correction and lots and lots and lots of praise! Don is big on praise! The dogs are happy and want to please. The results are spectacular! I would go nowhere else for help with my dogs. I have sent many many people to Don for help with their dogs, and I will continue to do so. Rave reviews from everyone Ive sent to him. Since every dog has a different personality, Don and his capable staff gladly offer individualized help with difficult situations so an owner can feel confident in their training methods.I am pleased to recommend Quail Run.~Susan
1 class down and all I can say is I already feel like I am getting my moneys worth. The correction in my Boxers behavior in class was immediately noticeable. I was able to come home and show off to my wife and kids a little of what we have learned already. Im sure there will be regression issues and they warn patience. But I will be practicing with him and turning this into a family affair. Next week I plan on have everyone there to watch. I normally would not post after the first week but I honestly dont see how this could go down from here. Barring something crazy happening I would recommend this training to anyone with a puppy. if u have a nutty larger puppy like I do then I would highly recommend it.
We used to take my dog here all the time, but no longer will take any future ones here. On our very last visit, which was about 5 years ago, our black lab seemed very frightened once they got their leash on him, he very obviously didnt want to go with them. Once we returned, he was not bathed even though we were told he was, he was also extremely sick. He wouldnt eat or drink once we brought him home. We took him to our vet, his white blood count was extremely high, his nose was dry and there was pus coming from his eyes. Our vet said they saw two large masses and assumed it was cancer, they advised us it would probably be best not to do surgery. He died and Quail Run didnt charge us for his stay (seems like a nice offer, but makes me even more leery that something went wrong here). Even if theres nothing that can stop cancer, our dog was sick while at the kennel, no one alerted us. I dont like the fact that he was afraid to go with the employees and the fact that he was obviously not bathed. Seems like they started to not care. We currently take our dog to the Sayville Animal Hospital for boarding, he comes back happy and healthy.
Quail Run is fantastic! I had to go out of state due to an emergency and was recommended to Quail Run by a friend. To my surprise it was where I had brought my previous Rotti over 1o years ago for training. I had never left my animals with anyone other than family up to this point. I had no choice this time. I was reluctant to leave my beautiful 10 month old Rotti, but after remembering Don and all the great reviews I did. She stayed for a month . Don and his staff took incredible care of my baby. They were professional and compassionate. When I came to get her she was happy and healthy. I now have my go to place to board my dog which is the next best thing to family.WE LOVE QUAIL RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Quail Run, our family had a great experience boarding our dog over the holiday. The staff was kind and the facility is kept up with obvious care.Quail Run accommodated our dog for an extra day due to our flight being postponed. Since this caused our pet to stay for a 5th day she was given a bath as promised on their website (a bath every 5 days). Great job, will definitely be returning!
I have tried 3 other dog trainers they all failed....not this one, thank you sooo much (Quail Run) for changing my dogs attitude and teaching her how to behave when I would do things with her. She is a German Shepard / Labrador mix. She is 10 months and she has changed drastically during those strong 8 weeks. She has now passed her on leash training and now we both can not wait for next season for OFF LEASH training....I thank Mr. Don Sterling and both of his assistant teachers for helping me and my dog and of course my mom for finding this place. Sincerely Luna and Tommy :)
Deciding to properly train our dog has been one of the best decisions my family has ever made. We now have a dog that listens and follows directions and is a pleasure to walk. Don was so patient and encouraging. This was a great experience and I recommend Quail Run Kennel to everybody!Carol & Bubba
I was referred by a friend. I loved that my pup had a good size kennel with a door to his own outside access 24/7. Very rustic, I really love the grounds. The price is comparable. Feel like I found a really good place to take my fur baby. We will be back!
This is my 3rd dog I have taken to Quail run for dog training. I have taken both on and off lead training classes. I recommend Don and his team To every person I know with a new dog! The training class is not only effective, but fun! I really feel like Im at Disney world with the microphones and jokes!
Such a great place! We are very grateful for bringing our super hyper black lab, Harvey. We started obedience classes, and by the second class we could walk him without pulling us! This class is not just obedience for the dogs, it’s for the owners too!! We learned so much already. I would recommend this to everyone!
My husband and I recently adopted our 4-year old pit bull from a shelter. It is very difficult for me to understand why people dislike this breed so much. They are misunderstood and my dog is not an exception. We don’t know the details but that her history is not a positive one. She was rescued from really deplorable conditions. The shelter warned us that she was aggressive towards other dogs. Yet, that didn’t stop us from bringing her home. She is amazing with my 4-year old daughter whether she is in the presence of food, jumps on her, lays on her, and not once has she shown any aggressive reaction. However, we wanted her to be able to socialize with other dogs and finally experience the joys of being a dog herself. She is a part of our family and we wanted to help her any way we can. Honestly, I didn’t know what to make of Don’s 8-week on-leash obedience training course. I was excited and nervous. Her first day of class was pretty intense. We didn’t realize how deep rooted her aggression towards other dogs were. She is 75 pounds of pure muscle and that day her weight doubled. She was so uncontrollable that we had to be excused from class. My heart broke for her and I couldn’t hold back my tears. I thought it was over and that was it. But Don didn’t give up that easily and was determined to help her.The next few weeks of classes were extremely helpful from Don’s fun and comical way of teaching but also his great knowledge and understanding of dogs. A sense of humor is a must for this class! He tells you how it is and does not sugar coat anything. Because of her strength, thanks to Ed, he was always there when I needed him. Thank you so much, Ed! Pat is just as wonderful.I was well aware that a few people were uncomfortable. At times I found it difficult coming to class, as I did feel somewhat ostracized from other dog owners because of her aggression and breed. I do understand seeing her in that state could be terrifying, but Don always made sure she trained from a safe distance. If she got a little out of hand we sat on the side and waited for class to end, as it was only fair to the rest of the clients. Then he would take some time to show us the lesson for that day. Don was so patient with her. Not once did she try to bite or show aggression towards Don, Ed, or me while being corrected. On several occasions he was kind enough to set aside separately to explain what a wonderful and great dog she is, except for that one problem.Realistically, 8 weeks of training will not get rid of her aggression but now we know how to control it. Many people ask why do we even bother? It’s a hard question to answer. I guess only a pit bull lover would understand. Everyone deserves a second chance, even our four-legged companions. She’s a work in progress and we will continue to rehabilitate her using Don’s techniques. We appreciate you educating others and negating the fears of this beautiful breed! You never gave up on her and neither will we. When others doubted us you gave us hope, Don. Thank you so, so much!!!!!!!!!
I recently took my dog to the 8 week on-lead obedience training program. In that time I learned numerous training techniques, all of which were readily and easily absorbed by my dog. I would strongly recommend this program to anyone who would like to turn a poorly-mannered pet into a well-behaved companion. Pet ownership has become a far more enjoyable experience. -Bill
I love these guys. We trained both of our rescued American bulldogs there and they are very stubborn and BIG dogs. My male dog was especially troublesome since he hates dogs. Don was very patient and helped me work through his problem. By the end of the training Rocco was sitting with the other dogs by my side. Also, this winter I was lucky enough to catch my daughter opening the front door and watching both my dogs run out into the snow. I now had two large dogs, one who still hates dogs, running loose in the snow. I ran out the door yelling for them to stop. Then finally when I had almost given up to go get my car and chase them down I tried my last hope command. I yelled down and held my hand up and both dogs stopped and hit the ground. This was still amazing to me a couple of years after Dons class and us keeping up at home. I didnt expect it but both dogs calmed down and came back to me and I was able to walk them by my side back to the house.
Just finished up our 8 week obedience class with our 1 year old double-doodle Rufio! Don and staff were absolutely terriffic. They all have a true passion for what they do and love every dog they teach. Our dog was always barking at every dog that passed and pulled on the leash. All of that behaviour has been corrected and my wife and I look forward to taking the off lead class in April!
Quail Run is top notch! Ive attended dog obedience classes 20 years ago with a very large Rottie with excellent results, both on lead & off. Ive recently attended the obedience classes with a Shar Pei/Lab mix and again, excellent results! The boarding services are the best around. Ive boarded past dogs at other kennels and Quail Run is the best! make sure you call early to make an appointment because this kennel will fill up first especially around the times in which the schools are closed.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK QUAIL RUN!!!
I loved it in the beginning, but over the years our dog learned to hate it here. //Our 4 year old, 50 pound mixed-breed dog loves to go for rides in the car, no matter where we go. EXCEPT when she recognized we were taking her here. Our dog would grow listless in the car as we pulled into their driveway. Then when we had to hand her over, she would cower from the owner (a chain-smoking cigarette smoker), and try to claw her way back to me. This became too much for me to bear earlier this year (spring 2016).She is a friendly dog, and never reacts this way with anyone else! Even though this fellow is reported to be an excellent dog trainer, what can I tell you, something apparently happened between them on previous overnight stays.Another thing, about their business practice, their hours. We always found that we had to board our dog two to three MORE days than we wanted to, because of their strategically chosen days off (closed Wednesdays and holidays) and very short hours on Sundays.Weve started to take our dog to another kennel, CozyNoses. They have an open door policy at CozyNoses. Weve toured their facility twice, from end to end, and their staff is always very friendly.
Im in the middle of an 8-week training class with my dog and so far so good. Amazing results. I would give them a try its worth the money. Check back later. Oh and by the way it seems like I might be the one with the training problem. I think my dogs smarter than me. Lol
Quail run boarding and training is amazing. After wasting money at other dog training schools I decided to take my dog to quail run. Best money ever spent. Its not instant but your dog week learn how to behave. Would highly recommend
WE LOVE QUAIL RUN! we brought our mini golden doodle here and within 1 class he was sitting on walks. We tried for over a year and never got him to sit. Its a great class and enjoyable. Highly recommend the class
My dog Gunner and I just completed our 8 week on-lead obedience class. Although my dog was just shy of 6 months old and quite a handful of a 50 lb labrador puppy, I was able to get him under my control, not me under his! This is due to Don and his staffs knowledge, patience and positive reinforcement (for the handlers mostly lol). I would highly recommend Quailrun Kennel for obedience training and boarding, as I have experienced both. Gunner and I are looking forward to the next Off Lead Class! Thanks Don!
DO NOT GO HERE!! my dog came back with a double eye infection and smelled like a rotting corpse. the OWNER told us “it’s not our problem your dog has a weak immune system.” my dog is absolutely terrified of this man. he put a collar on him that was so tight i could even fit a finger underneath it and it had to be cut off. not only that but when our dog didn’t sit immediately on command after seeing us for the first time in a week, he took a leash and whipped him. do not bring your pets here if you love them.
An excellent and effective program for obedience training. Don teaches owners how to train their dogs so that they can continue the training into the future to assure the dogs future obedience. I highly recommend this program for the safety of your dog as well as improving your relationship with your best friend.
This establishment is not LGBTQIA friendly, has signs openly posted along fence and entrance gate stating Men cannot have babies and to stop WOKE america before it destroys us. This is extremely disappointing as I was highly recommended to this place and was looking to have my dog receive training here.
Took my 10 month old border collie to the on-leash training course and I learned how to handle a breed that is hands down smarter than humans! Don, Pat, Ed and Sky were all extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Cant wait until shes ready to attend the off-leash course!
Sorry they may excellent on training but for boarding nothing impressing! They dont have time to let the dogs out to walk and play out the kennel, only to go out true a doggy door to patty, cant run , no contact with any body, only went they get feed or to clean the kennel! Small dogs stay in the same side is the big burkin dogs! That will drive our little Molte-poo nuts! And same for us!! Sorry! Not good enough for small dogs!!
I have done both the on lead and off lead classes here. Don is the guru of dog training at an extremely affordable price. Highly recommend if you can keep an open mind about the use of a standard choke collar. If all else fails give Don a try.
I cant speak to the quality of the training, as we only used the boarding facility. The check in process was very, very simple, the staff friendly, and the price was unbeatable. We will definitely be back if the need arises in the future.
My Chocolate Lab and I took the beginners course this past fall and I cant say enough great things about the course and the staff. Don was always available to answer questions when I would call and his staff was exceptionally patient and supportive during the classes.I would recommend this course to anyone and everyone.
We dont like leaving our animals when we go away. If it werent for Quail Run, wed never go on vacation. They make it so easy and theyre a pleasure to deal with. They know & love all animals!
Great place to board your dog. Very professional and awesome staff!
This was our 3rd dog training session at quail run it’s been 30 years and 3 great dogs don and patti are exceptional they actually train the owners we are waiting for off lead class to start with luke he is doing great thanks to quail run in the 30 odd years the questions are instantly answered and times when he wanted to see the dog for a bad habit cures the dog sends me home never ever a charge just a fine upstanding man his actions speak to that
What can I say other then this place is excellent. They really do a great job with training and boarding. They have been in the business since the 70s so that has to say something. My pup gets excited knowing hes going there.
Our dog loved it and they seemed super knowledgeable. Definitely will use again,
My dog came back smelling awful. Their office smells like cigarettes where it was very hard to breathe. Iwould never recommend this place.
Great upfront information. Don was easy to talk with to help our family to have a safer home life (still in progress). Will be back for training.
Good people caring for my dog, confident Im leaving my pooch in good hands.
Quail run is the best place to leave your beloved pooch when he or she cannot join you on your planned trip. This place is aces!
Don was very rude and very condescending. May know dogs, but not how to talk to actual people nor treat them with respect. Never returning and will let people know not to come here just because of that.
Wouldn’t give dog meds, fed meds to wrong dog when they did, dogs always came home lethargic, and owner pushed me thinking I was going into the kennel area (I wasn’t). Don’t send your dogs here, the old man is out of touch and they will treat them and you like livestock.
They have taken care of my dogs for almost 20 years. Safe, dependable boarding
Nice clean family run kennel. They also offer obedience training twice a year.
Smokes cigarettes right in your face, very disgusting and disrespectful. No one else wants to get cancer frontOur second hand smoke. House reeks of cigarettes
We use quail run for boarding. Don is a saint with our fear aggressive pup! I never have to worry about how our pup is doing or how he’s behaving. Forever grateful for quail run! I can’t recommend them enough!
I have been taking my dogs here for years, they were originally recommended to me by my vet.
Very attentive care to your pets, been using Quail Run for many years. Love the staff.
Don and Patty are amazing! My pups never look back to say goodbye!
Great place to bring your pet very caring people highly recommend
Excellent care was given while we were on vacation. The staff is very courteous and professional.
Took great care of my fur babies. They came home happy. All I can ask for
Quite possible the most professionally run dog kennels on Long Island.
They always take great care of my German Shepherd
This is the fourth dog I brought there for training Don the owner is the best dog trainer around
Don and his training team are excellent. Our adopted lab had had no training and was 16 months BIG and goofy when we got him. This group training was extremely effective and had him under control with just a few lessons. I did not expect group training to be this good, having used private training in the past, but it was excellent. You always feel that you and your dog are under the trainers’ watchful eye even as part of a group. I highly recommend this class.
Reasonable place for boarding your pets. Love it.
I can’t believe how much I have learned from this 8 week training course! Don and his staff are amazing!! Not only do I enjoy walking my dog now, I am looking forward to moving into his off leash training course! Best dog trainer on the island .. thank you all!
In 2009 I took my fairly dog-aggressive (because she was a rescue and had never been socialized with other dogs) 8 year old dog there for their advanced training class. It helped her so much to not react to other dogs walking by, not be distracted, not be aggressive towards other dogs, etc. I cant explain how much the structure of the class, the quality of training and the help we received from them helped. I highly suggest them to anyone.
We just boarded our dog there for the first time, and we were very happy with the experience. Our dog came back happy and just like his usual self. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a kennel, and we will definitely use them again.
The training here is excellent. Don is amazing and I cant say a single negative thing about the way he handles and understands dogs. Having a large breed working dog and feeling overwhelmed navigating a dog with high anxiety for the first time he gave me alot of tips that have helped tremendously and I cant thank him enough. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the boarding here. If I never trained here I would of had to give my boarding experience a 3. My dog isnt just a dog to me. No I dont overly baby her but she is my family and to be laughed at when I called to check up on her made me feel uncomfortable. Knowing she gets next to no human interaction also was unnerving and some reassurance would of been nice. When I went to pick her up and was told oh your here for the crazy dog, that hurt. Yes she has high anxiety but I tried to explain things that would help her and got laughed at. I may not be an expert at dog boarding but I know my dog. She came back so wound up and stressed out maybe for a confidant or happy go lucky dog this boarding might work but unfortunately for her it was clear she did not have a good experience. Broke my heart that I put her through that.
Treated my dog like a Queen. No problems
Great place to board your dog! Nothing but good experiences over the last 10 years.
The best place to have your doggie get a vacation
Great place took good care of our dogs
Experienced ,kind,in business 30 yrs so glad they are still here
Highly recommend for anyone with a puppy that doesnt listen
Don is the best there is
Very good place to bring your pet
Good old fashioned business
High quality care at reasonable prices
They love GSD s
It is the best training around
