I cannot recommend Ulster County Canines enough. We had the best adoption experience for our little pup. Jamie and Adam are AMAZING! You can justtell how much love and dedication they pour into the dogs they rescue by how sweet and patient they are with the dogs. When we applied online we explained our living situation / activity levels / lifestyle and asked them to make recommendations on dogs that would best fit. They did such a great job pairing us with our pup and the adoption process was incredibly easy. We just came back today for their annual fundraiser and it is truly beautiful to see the community they built at UCC. I definitely recommend checking out Ulster County Canines when you are ready for a furry friend.
No one cares more for dogs than the owners and workers at Ulster County Canines. They know their dogs inside and out and can match you to your perfect companion. We told them exactly the kind of dog we were looking for (key emphasize on good with cats!) and they matched us with the perfect dog. We have had her for almost two years now, and we continue to board her with them. She is always excited to go for boarding and play at their onsite dog park. She recognizes and loves the owners there so I always feel comfortable knowing shes in the best of hands being boarded there. If you are looking for a new dog, or looking for a fun dog park or boarding facility for your current dog, I would highly recommend Ulster County Canines.
On May 22, my beautiful friend and I went to Ulster County Canines to meet one dog and ended up adopting another. Jamie and Adam were both forthcoming about the first desired dog’s personality, characteristics, ability to get along with other dogs, etc.. Unfortunately, I decided he would not be a good fit for my home. Adam told me about Phantom, a lab mix, who was a stray in Louisiana. Phantom was exactly the type of dog I wanted. He was curious, friendly and showed his personality - one that I fell in love with. I am glad to say that Phantom now has a forever home and I will be returning to Ulster County Canines to find him a brother or sister in the near future.
LOVE UCC! Down to earth, honest and just a joy to work with. They honestly want you and your dog to succeed without the hassle & policy a lot of places dish out.
This is one of the most awesome rescues on earth! Whether youre a dog, cat, or human, you are valued here. Every dog a wanted dog!
A passion started long ago with this owner! Love the animals more then people for sure. Highly recommendly😸🫶🐶🐕🐈⬛🐈 🐩
Ww are so thankful for the 2 wonderful dogs that we have adopted over the years.
Berta loves coming to visit and spend her vacation from mom and dad here! She loves Jamie and the staff as she was rescued and one of their special jems I found online. Berta has been a great dog and so over the top loving. And when I pick her up she doesnt know whether to be happy Im there or sad shes leaving. She comes home a happy girl and they take the very best care of her.
We knew we wanted to rescue a young dog, but wanted to make sure whatever dog we adopted would be good with our two rambunctious, young children. The dog we thought might be interested in was too hyper. So, they really listened to qualities of a dog we thought would meet our lifestyle. The dog they matched us with couldn’t be more perfect for our whole family. We love our Shelby girl and we are so grateful to UCC!
Their website clearly states that if you submit an application and do not hear back, your application is not approved. And they are correct. Put in an application, never heard back. Reached out to them to find out if application was not approved or was the dog I was interested in denied. Said our application was approved, but dog was adopted. Dog is still on their website weeks after application was submitted. They are doing a great service for these animals, no doubt. But unfortunately, there is no reference as to how long one should wait after submitting an application. Youre just kind of left in the dark not knowing what is a reasonable amount of time to wait before guessing you are probably not approved. And the fact that the dog they said was adopted but weeks later still on their site makes me weary of them. Even if they had canned e-mails that could be sent to applicants telling them theyve been denied and why would be helpful. It also helps to honest. I recently saw another pup on their site Id be interested in but am not interested in the wait and see game only to be left in the dark.
Contact with UCC was great leading up to the adoption of our puppy from them last summer. However since then weve been trying to reach them for 6 months about bringing the puppy back for vaccines and to be spayed, and they have absolutely fallen off the radar and stopped responding to any of our messages. I tried reaching them on Facebook as recently as two weeks ago. And while it shows they read my message 20 minutes after I sent it, they have yet to follow up on that message or any others. Since writing my review on Facebook, Ive been contacted by a number of other recent adopters that have also been ignored by Ulster County Canines, in terms of follow-up care. I think its also worth noting that they did collect $100 deposit at the time of the adoption to be applied towards a spaying procedure with their vet. However, now its clear they have no intentions of honoring their end of the deal.I guess theyre a fine shelter and everything with our new puppy has been fine, it just seems youre very much on your own once you drive away with your new companion -- despite promises and offers made during the adoption.
These folks really know their dogs and promote dogs who might otherwise be stigmatized or overlooked. We adopted our sweet girl last year--her family had to bring her back due to COVID-19 hardship and she was emaciated from not eating (a broken heart from pining!). We explained the type of dog that would be the best fit for our home and Aimee said, Well, Ive got just the dog for you if youre willing to give her a shot. Shes a little neurotic and skinny but shes not sick--people keep passing her over because they think shes ill, but shes really just sad and misses her family. Ruby crawled into my lap and totally changed my mind and heart that day, because I had been hesitant about getting a dog, let alone a pit mix. She mellowed out, chunked up, and became our blocks sheriff to watch over the kids on the street :) We bring Ruby back for boarding sometimes (its a shlep, but theyre like a second family to her so its worth the drive). So much love!TL;DR Listen to the workers, they know these dogs like no ones business! Ask them for a recommendation and describe your needs.
This place is hands down the best boarding and rescue facility I’ve dealt with over the years! Staff is knowledgeable, friendly & THEY CARE about the animals! From the north to the south - they steadily work their hearts out to save the animals that WE as a society have failed! Their expertise in behavior and compassion for those that have less than “stellar” issues are what shines thru! The programs and resources they provide while adopting are beyond what most rescues offer and extremely helpful to new dog owners or just owners who need a little extra help!Jamie, Adam & the entire staff at Ulster County Canines - Thank you for all you do! The world is better because of people like you!
I wish I had better things to say. The adoption was fine. The issue was the spaying. Supposedly she had been on heartworm medication ( she had a negative heart worm test prior to arriving at UCC so she hadnt been on medication during her months at UCC) then went into heat so couldnt be spayed previously. Then there werent appointments available then no further response to set up an appointment. Spaying is included in the adoption fee but we had to pay a local vet to do it because UCC stopped responding to requests for an appointment. If money is too tight then say so and adopters can make an informed decision
These are good people. Want to say how pleasant of a visit we had with them the other day. Took the time to answer all of our questions and to be helpful and patient with two people who are new to this process. All of the pups were so well socialized, it’s apparent how much love and work is put into them.
Amazing group of people that have dedicated their lives to helping dogs in need. I’ve adopted 2 wonderful dogs from them and have fostered a few others. I’d recommend anyone looking to save a life to contact or donate to UCC!
This is the best rescue I have encountered. Mr Adam and his wife are no doubt 100. % the best. They dont have a selfish bone in their bodies. They come to Louisiana to save dogs. This is a admirable thing yall are doing. I thank God everyday that you saved hash brown. Olster will definitely hold a place in our hearts forever. Thank you. Hashbrown wanted me to send you this pick to show you how much he misses his sister. Hope u like.
Great experience adopting from UCC. Saw our dog on their website and that day application was approved and we had him home. You can tell from his demeanor that he was well cared for before our adoption. Best decision we made going to UCC. Other places ignored us or told us we were not the right fit. UCC staff took the time to introduce our new family member to us and made sure we were happy. Thanks UCC
Jamie and Adam are the most selfless people I have ever met! What they for the dogs and now cats is amazing!
Such a great organization. The amount of care they put into all the dogs is amazing. They also provide other services like boarding, training, and play groups. Looking forward to adopting from them again.
Over crowded, dog crates stacked on top of each other. Smell was over powering. Disorganized, had appointment to come see dogs, confirmed by multiple emails, showed up and they didnt even know I was coming.I think their hearts in the right place, just perhaps overwhelmed with too many animals.
Everyone at the rescue is super nice! They made the process of adopting easy and stress free! I highly recommend adopting your new family member through them!
Adopted a puppy at 3 months old, since 6 months we have tried to get her fixed after the adoption agency said their vet could handle it and barely get responses maybe once a month and they keep rescheduling the puppy is now 9 months old and not getting any younger or lighter.
There is nothing like their love and devotion for dogs! They truly are the best!
They sent their training crew to our house and helped with some behavioral issues with our Pitbull Penny. Very helpful and would highly recommend them.
Jamie is an awesome person with a huge heart. If youre looking for a forever friend go see her.
