Had never been to this location before. We lost our 5 year old purebred Rottweiler unexpectedly. We have always had dogs and wanted to give a puppy a forever home. We fell in love with Harley ( Now called Haylie) This location blew our minds when we went in. The staff were the nicest we have ever encountered and the kennels were emaculent and all animals were beautiful. Highly recommend this location. Way To Go Chemung County SPCA YOU ROCK
Took my adorable little land shark here to be neutered on 04/14/2024. Staff was very polite and helpful. They were very situationally aware and maintained professional control when another puppy showed some nervous behavior. Would definitely recommend them if needed
I am honestly blown away with this establishment (in the best way). The people are all incredible and great at what they do, the business itself is an amazing source for well cared for animals needing homes and they have an amazing turn over. These people are actual super heroes 🖤
Clean friendly staff. Just dropped off donations. They also have an on site medical clinic.Adopt smartly!
Awesome staff, and the process was easy to get my awesome puppy (Sonic). I even had to contact them regarding my puppy not feeling well, and I got a response within 1 hour. Megan is awesome! Thank you, SPCA!
I buy my flea prevention medication there and everyone is always so welcoming and friendly. I got my lil kitty from them last February and often make donations to the shelter to help his friends! I found out today that you can sponsor an animal by covering the cost of their adoption, senior cats are $50. Im doing it next month to help a lil guy or gal find a home!!
I recently had to surrender my dog to the Chemung County SPCA due to severe health issues that I was dealing with. I shared this information with a person who used to be my best friend. Said friend proceeded to contact the SPCA and get important information about the dog, which he chose to turn into a lengthy slanderous post about me. Does anyone know if there are privacy laws governing the SPCA? I am in the process of finding the answer to this question. If I find the correct answer there is definitely a lawsuit coming!!
It was very clean, and all the animals were very friendly! I wanted to take home a cat, but my mom said no. I had alot of fun, and cannot wait till the end if March, because my Social Media Club is hosting a dance at my school, and all the money is going to the SPCA! See you guys again soon!
We adopted a senior absolutely lovely sweet cat. We just love her!!The shelter was very clean & the animals well cared for. Helpful nice staff.
Nice people!! What do you expect from a animal shelter? They treat you nice and answer your questions!! I adopted a cat from them and they were very good to deal with!!
This is a great place to adopt a pet for a good cause. I adopted my cat here and everyone was very happy to hear that I was taking a cat home. They let you spend as much time as you need with the animals. In the entire time I was there I never felt pressured to adopt or felt like I outstayed my welcome. The prices are more than fair and they help to make it very clear what your responsibilities are when adopting a pet from an SPCA. If your looking to adopt from a shelter this should be one of your first stops.
What horrible people that work for this place. They ar nothing less then power happy when it comes to your pets
I dont know what I would do without CCHS. Everyone here is so fantastic, understanding and helpful. I am so thankful for all of them.
We made the difficult decision to surrender our dog, he has never been aggressive towards anyone, gets along with other animals fine, and is still pretty young. His issues are chewing and peeing in the house, I’m super pregnant and we just haven’t had any luck with these issues so we wanted him to find a new home before we had this baby. The shelter took him in on Wednesday, I even was charged 75 dollars for them to take him, which was fine and understandable. They called me this morning to inform me that Dart wasn’t “sheltering well” and I could either come get him or they would be euthanizing him, which seemed extreme and unfair. It’s barely been 3 days, anyone who works with animals knows that they take time to decompress and adjust, I think the standard time is 3 weeks. They didn’t get him a chance and were insanely ready to just kill him? Wild for an organization that claims to care about animals and their wellbeing. We went and got him back, and are waiting for Animal care sanctuary to take him, because they will actually give him a chance, and work with his anxiety. This shelter is disgusting.
Great people and even better pets! So glad to be able to adopt rather than buy. Thank you folks, for all that you do!
Great place that took in homeless kittens we found. Very clean place plus everyone that works and volunteers there is nice. They also helped us trap and neuter some homeless cats in our area. The animals in the area are lucky and fortunate to have a place like this. Thank you for all that you do!
Buddy is doing wonderful. Had some food and fear aggression hut working through it and going wel. Love this little guy. Thank you so much.i have my life back!
This staff is absolutely incredible. They work so hard to keep the animals in our community safe. Their communication is top-notch. I dont know what I would do without their help. I own a sanctuary, and theyve been a true gift to us. Thank you for all that you do
You guys do great with all the animals and have a lovely facility! Thank you for all you do for these animals.
Went in to get my 2 cats spayed. They helped reschedule my kitten because she hid that night. And still took in my other cat. Will be going there again with any other animal if I was to get another.
TLDR: Woman at the front desk is Old Fashioned, Rest of the staff is great. This place is great and I hope it sticks around for a long time. The Tea: The Old Fashioned Woman that is usually at the front desk has been an absolute nightmare the past few times i have gone here. Let me explain.I adopted my kitties from here about a year or so and could not be happier. They made sure that the kitties were all taken care of before they gave them to us and when I say that I cannot under-state how much I love my kitties and when i first went here everything went swimmingly. The lady in question was there when I got my kitties and she was SOMEWHAT rude but nothing near the levels latelyNeighbor wanted to adopt a pet, unsure if he wanted to get a dog or a cat but he wanted to have a pet because he lives alone and wanted a furbaby to love and take care of so he isnt so lonely. I told him about the SPCA.No clue what happened but this woman was a whole different person when I brought him. I had mentioned that I didnt like how another vet had treated my partner and I and she like idk she must be like close friends with him because she got all in my face about how great he is and what not. That was the first time I had been there since I got my kitties. He had to wait because they needed to call the landlord which is understandable. We just went there again because he wanted to look at the cats again. Upon entering we were told we can go back and see the animals. We looked at the dogs then we looked at the cats forr a little bit but he had his heart set on one of the dogs. We asked a staff member if we could meet the dog he was interested in and she said yes let me go get someone who can open the pen.We decide to wait in the hallway because the dog kennels smelled strongly of dog (it was not unclean just lots of dog so dog smell is to be expected) . Older desk lady comes out and very rudely (or at least I thought so) ask us if she can help us with anything, like in the most you came to the wrong neighborhood tone I have ever heard. we explained that we were waiting for someone to open the dog pen because he was interested in adopting the dog but he wanted to meet the dog first. she proceeded to go off on us about how we cant just come pet the dogs and all kinds of nonsense, as if we were not told BY A STAFF MEMBER that we can meet the dog we just had to wait. She defended the vet mentioned eariler using the terms hes just old fashioned claiming that she herself is also the same way.which I feel explains why she doesnt like the neighbor but that is purely speculation. She didnt outright say anything old fashionedIn any case this place is fantastic which is why I refuse to give it any less than 5 stars because the SPCA seems to truly care about the animals they take in. Could do with a little less of the old fashioned mannerisms from the front desk woman.
Got my dogs rabies shots here. They were fast , courteous and the price was way better than my vets where I would have been charged an office visit. It was 15 dollars for the shots,15 dollars to get their nails clipped and also sold us cheaply flea/tick drops.
New members of the family. Getting use to the new home.
Absolutely awesome vaccine clinic. They also offer discounted spay and neuter programs for low income families. I took my kittens here and they did a really great job. Can book appointments online and they email you all the paperwork.
I adopted my sweet cat Robert here recently. All of the staff were kind and helpful.
Our local SPCA is very active in the communities they provide low cost clinics for spaying and neutering your pets. Very important to keep the pet population down. Sparkling clean and friendly staff.
Utilized the Spay/Neuter Clinic for both my shepherds as well as my grandparents cavapoo. Highly recommend! They were very understanding with my shepherds and put my mind at ease knowing I could trust my babies in their care!
Adopted the sweetest kitty about a week ago. The facility was just newly renovated super clean and very nice. There were lots of pets to choose from and they were very loved at the SPCA. They also have learning material for new pet owners and ones looking to add another pet to their home. Love love love our SPCA
Got my dog his shots and nail trim last week, this was the best and fastest experience I have ever had. The staff was great, quick and took great care of my buddy. I will def be returning here for all future vaccinations.
A beautiful and amazing animal shelter. The shelter is in wonderful looking condition. Animals have clean and comfortable living areas. The staff there were amazing. They were friendly and very helpful.
Looking for information on help with 3 small dogs we rescued.
Great staff, loving, gentle caring attention Dr Liz Wilcoxs gives your pet, so gentle . Great affordable prices. Only one comment they have signs for you to park at with info to text your arrival. They face the building should face parking spot so you can read instructions from your vehicle. Thank you for offering this service, your an amazing shelter !!
Very nice staff, place is clean. they took me out back to look at cats the animals seemed clean and in clean cages. They took care of everything shots / neuter / etc was ready to pick up without a wait. Very good facility.
We found a wonderful puppy. Everyone was so kind and helpful.
If your in the Elmira area, if you have fur babies and are in need of food, they can help you. They are on State Route 352. If your looking for a fur baby of your own they do adoptions as well.
Staff is friendly but when we went to adopt a dog we werent given all the info and had to return him within 45 minutes. We didnt get a goody bag like all others do either. However, when I had to have my beloved cat out to sleep the staff was very compassionate and it was only 45.00.
Had both of my current cats and 5 others in the past Spayed/Neutered there. Very friendly, helpful, compassionate staff and Volunteers. I especially thank Carmela, she is very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend that people adopt from the SPCA rather then buying Pets in Stores, Puppy Mills, etc.
Brought a stray mama kitty and her babies (8wks old) that we have been taking care of to the vaccination clinic. We made their appts and paid online, arrived a little before our appt time, and they met us in the parking lot, took them all inside, and had them back out within a few minutes. Very nice people, very affordable vaccinations. We paid $90 for Mama & 4 kittens. Mama was $30 b/c she also got her rabies vaccine, kittens were $15 each.
The facility is clean and well-maintained. Our mother recently adopted an adult cat here and the process was very straightforward. We met other great dogs and cats that were looking for homes and everyone was clean and comfortable. Its good to know that there is a responsible organization in the area looking out for those animals that have suffered as a result of ignorance and abuse. Keep up the good work!
The staff is wonderful and truly loves the animals. The place is always clean, critters are well cared for and there is never any reservation about letting us see the pets.Unfortunately an unusually high percentage of pit bulls, but thats due to the demographics of the feeder communities and no fault of the dogs or staff. We have adopted several wonderful dogs from them through the years, and stop by occassionally just to say hi and love on the current residents.
Loving caring and very friendly . They helped me out when I was unable to buy dog and cat food.. and were able to help me home a litter of puppies . They are a blessing. Very grateful to have found them
Just went in thinking about buying a cat, found one we was thinking about buying. We was asking how much the cat was and it’s name, they didn’t tell us, they told us to get an application which is fine. Then they asked for my landlords number and I told her we just want the information on the cat we don’t know if we are going to buy it. She calls my landlord anyways, so now my landlord thinks I have a cat which I do not because the front desk person wanted to call even though I was just wanting the information.
Beautiful remodel done. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend adopting a new fur baby from chemung County SPCA. I couldnt be more happier with the experience we had and our new four legged baby
First visit there. Very clean and orderly. Got my adorable kitten Sterling now Lexi at the end of April at about 13 wks was well taken care of there. Lexi is growing like a weed full of energy and healthy!
Unfortunately we had a dog that we had no space for. We had rescued her with a friend. The friend was supposed to take her. It didnt work out. I took her in. Explained my situation. The people were great. Very kind and helpful. They were able to find piper a new home with in a couple weeks. I was very impressed with this organisation. They show that they truly care about the animals they take in. The best thing is they are a no kill shelter. I cant thank them enough for finding Piper her new home.
Great experience getting shots for my dog and getting her fixed. Staff is amazing with the animals.
I got my Carmen girl German Shepherd lab mix 8 1/2 years ago from SPCa she was the best! Unfortunately last Friday at 10 pm she crossed the rainbow bridge, she was 13. She was the greatest dog I have ever had in a little bit time. Protective, playful got along with other animals ( except cats sometimes lol ) if or ever I am ready to adopt again will definitely go to the SPCA again.
0 Stars. Go to ithaca if possible. Ive called here 2 times in my life because Im barely in Chemung county, to surrender a pet. One was a girl I took in from an abusive situation, although I had no money to care for her if she had wounds or illness, I wanted her out of there, if I didnt take her, no one would of. She ended up having some sort of stomach issues. I called and explained her condition, WITHOUT A SECOND to explain after the stomach issues. The receptionist got attitude saying she needs to go to the vet. Second time. Recently, I found a batch of kittens in a box. I took care of them for a week when then noticing they had something wrong. This time I called and explained that I found them before explaining the condition, STILL got attitude and was spoken to rudely. I guess if your heart is there to save an animal, but you dont have money for the unexpected illnesses they may have. LEAVE THWM THERE. Is THIER MOTO they are trying to spread around. If your a receptionist here reading this. Dont bother replying. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
We adopted two cats from finger lakes spca a couple of years ago, and we love them very much!! We receive posts from chemung SPCA and we were very interested in the kitten they showed as the pet of the week she was so cute.,but the problem is the cost to adopt is crazy. Since we adopted our other cats (which we had to wait until they were on sale, which is kind of sad, but it is the truth. ) anyway we would love to adopt the kitten they showed, but the cost is ridiculous. I understand there is cost to care for the animals but if their are so many animals that need homes they should make it a little easier for people like us and I am sure other people who would love to adopt, but can not afford to!! So I guess when we are asked again to help donate or help in some other way we will just save our money and look for a kitten from a farm or friend..I just hope that all the animals find homes. I just wish little lynx could have come home with us.
They told me I could look at the kittens and did mention that they could not be leave til Monday. I informed them several time where I was located and that they I could check out this week but would be able to pick up until next Saturday because I work, I drove over 2 hrs and after picking the two out I wanted did they say I had to be there Monday to pick them up and they are not allowed to keep them there longer if someone pays and does everything else to adopt them. Again 4th around trip and you didnt tell me that on the phone the at least ten times I talked with you. Unhappy with customer service skills, and where does it say anything like that on there web site, or adversitment sites, will not return.
Lost my 15 year old cat to kidney disease. I completed an application online and received a call shortly after I submitted it. I didnt have a particular cat in mind, but after speaking with someone from the SPCA, she suggested I check out a cat that was at Pet Co in Big Flats. I went that afternoon and met Kenny Blankenship, now known as just Kenny, and decided pretty quickly I wanted to adopt him. I think hes a reincarnation of my previous two black cats - hes a year old, not as spastic as a kitten but still makes me laugh out loud with the way he plays. Hes a purrfect fit for our family.
When I went to rescue a dog from the Chemung SPCA, I was given a dog with multiple health issues. None of which were disclosed to me at the time of adoption, and once discovered, the SPCA denied any knowledge of them. My dog was sponsored so there was no adoption fee; this was likely because they wanted to get rid of this dog due to the many health issues. Their lack of knowledge of the health issues seems impossible based on the severity of the issues. When I called to ask them about any previous knowledge, they did not offer to help cover any medical expenses and rather sent me a list of grants to apply for, half of which the website did not even work. I encourage people to adopt from this shelter for the sole sake of saving these animals from the shelter itself! I am so thankful that I got my dog away from them when I did so that he could have a fighting chance! Shame on this shelter.
They were great with the female cat very nice to have gone to them for spay and shots
They helped save a stray female cat from certain death. We were sent there by Paradise Animal Haven in woodhull ny. I hope I got that name right. They were great also. Thank You. Kit Kat is doing good and has a fur-ever home.
Got a pup from here, got him home and he went nuts and bit me. Came from a kill shelter from Mississippi, they new nothing about the dog. I took him back the next day. They refunded my money, but they made me feel like it was my fault.
Your Shelter must be doing terrific!! I looked your site over and although you show many pictures of cats for adoption you only have one dog! thats fantastic. good job everyone!
Staff is amazing and they were very friendly and gentle with my animal when we went here. They do what they can to make the animals as well as the owners feel comfortable
I kitty I found in my trailer park my son named him Milo . I loved wish I could of keep him so loveable it hurt my feeling to give him up plus I have 3 outside but u cant catch them I feed and I named them also I was told that Milo was adopted fast that is ? What they met fast.
Great staff willing to take time to have educational classes for teens. Chemung SPCA its teamed up with other shelters, helping find forever homes, lessening the burden on other shelters.
Well...for murdering pits...that was not my experience. I adopted Sparkle...an ill-mannered Staffordshire Terrior a few years back. She was a Hurricane Katrina rescue as a matter of fact, who could have been perceived as a hostile, distant, aggressive gal...but...she was found...despite her ill-mannered ways (yes, challenging...but humorous at the same time), to be a gal evaluated as worth saving...and she had the personality to be brought back and be adopted to a forever home...and she had been returned to the SPCA more than once)! Despite that, adopt her I did...with a greyhound Gabby Hayes and a cat with attitude, Attie. All went well! I worked with the deaf-blind, and with that experience, she seemed to be ignoring me...so I began to feel she had a hearing deficit. Yes, she needed some adapting, but the SPCA sought help at Cornell to determine if she as indeed deaf...and yep...she was. They provided me with any assistance as I needed it...and never hesitated...I had been blessed with her...as many other dogs over the years from there, I can proudly sayI I only had her for a bit under two years, but she loved my grandsons, my Attie; and most significantly, my Gabby the greyhound...who was her ears. That was a bond you had to witness and could not be explained. We were all blessed with her. With that being said...pits...terriors, etc. are given a bad rap. But they are brought there because of the owners and their lack of control...neglectful handling and training...or because they are bored with their pit (or any other breed for that matter..............SHAME ON THEM). So...if you dont like them (pits)murdered...YOU adopt them and/or find them a forever home. Just saying....Note: My Sparkle passed from an inoperable tumor, two years ago...the tumor was behind her eye...I allowed her to pass in a dignified manner...as I have allowed all my kids in the past...but she had a forever home...and was not murdered. Again...just saying...
The staff was awesome !! They knew I was adopting Sophie before I told them!! Everything was clean and neat and the staff stayed late for us because we could not get there before 4:30...Thanks againTony Malarkey
This organization does a wonderful job caring for homeless dogs and cats until they find their furever homes. The residents are given some training so the new parents are getting a family member that is not raw
Little on the pricey side at a $175 adoption fee. But considering the other high cost of everything here in NY, its understandable. These folks work hard for the fur babies.
They are so wonderful! They allowed us to meet the puppy and gave us great tips and tricks. We love our new baby
We adopted our Kitty, Snowball about 3 months ago. She has just been a joyful addition to our little household. The adoption process is easier then I thought.
Kinda rude and didnt help at all. Just asked why I didnt do something else as if option arent limital.
Excellent place to have animals spayed and neutered. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have flea drops available for purchase at reasonable price.
They wont pay me my $30 dollars back. I was the for my dog rabies shot and microchip. They refused to see my dog. Because I wont allow them to put a muzzle on my dog I believe that is animal cruelty
Great service, my sister adopted a beautiful dog, shes such an angel, special shout out to Lisa at front desk, awesome lady
Amazing staff. Great facility wonderful with my fur babies. They are hard working wonderful people loving animals who desperately need love.
Love them.
I adopted my Marmelade here over two years ago . He is great and has given me so much joy.
Got a new puppy, friendly staff
They were very helpful I had my cat fixed there and I highly recommend anyone take there animals there 😊😊❤❤❤❤💯
Boys were up and running around a half hour after pick up! Take advantage of the discount rates if you are unemployed!! Very satisfied customer!
Clean and very well kept place. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. You can tell that they really care about the pets.
The lady that runs the front desk is so rude. The younger girl is very nice and helpful. But the old hag at the front desk is very rude.
Great people, great cause, I support what they do fully!! I wish more would, as well ad help donate even if its time. to help with the animals and what they do for people. Keep up the great work
I have gotten all my pets fixed here. They are caring and loving with the animals. Facility is always clean.
They have done an outstanding job at helping my mother with her many cats and being kind and taking care of her and her animals!
Havent been in to see animals but got my cat neutered there. Went back to see animals but theres no obvious entrance or anything. I was confused so I just left
Love the service they provide to our animals... Just wish they could all be saved... As for their commercials I wish they would SHOW what they provide for abused or abandoned animals instead of showing those frail, scared, & helpless ones on tv
Amazing people amazing Dr .If you need a pet spayed ,neutered or just want to adopt the special friend this is the place to go .
Very, very friendly and helpful, theyre a great bunch people.
We had our cat fixed here. They do a great job with the pets and are very well organized
Just dropped our kitten at the clinic, and we will let you know after we retrieve her.

I have recently done volunteer work there, and I find that the animals are well cared for, and my experience was very enjoyable. I would certainly go back.
Very friendly and helpful! I just wish I could take all of those poor animals and give them a permanent home... Adopt one please!
They are very nice people and very helpful with helping you with any of their animals that they have..
There were so many animals to pet and play with and they were all so sweet! Also, the staff were great!
They have a waiting list if you dont want your cat. I will not go back there again. The only plus side is they do appear to be adding on.
The were very helpful compassion not like stray heaven in Waverly ny there amosphere was gloomy cold
A great place to get a new friend a cat or dog looking for a home with people that will love them forever. Stop in and maybe there will be your friend for life.
I adopted my puppy Maisie there. Very kind and professional people. Would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Unprofessional & useless they just want you to kill ur pet and throw it out they dont care about are animals hell they wont even answer the phone or call back or even come get cats or dogs that are running around on the streets place really needs to be shut down or get better workers
They are not willing to take strays they told me i had to pay 50 dollars to drop off kittens i found in a trash bag on the side of the road. I was very displeased.
Easy to get too

Love tbis place and the dedication of staff and dr.
Great services offered to the public and they are timely.
I have been trying to care of a stray cat . Animal control helped some by finding the owner. Cat returned. Went to SPCA. Donated money. They read the chip. Contacted owner. Was told I have to take cat back to where I live. On my own I found the owner. I live in an apt complex with elderly people. I was told by lady at desk if cat scratches someone which it does sometimes just to wash it because cat has had shots. That isn’t true. Cats carry bacteria in mouth and claws . My aunt died from a cat scratch who had all the shots. I felt rushed through and like it was a waste of their time to help me and this poor 13 yr old cat. Not happy with this place. They smile and send you on your way regardless of animal.
My questions were answered immediately and very professionally
Got kitten fixed they way great
Rabies vaccination for my cat, everything went well
Awesome thing they do for animals.
Caring, friendly, informative
Clean and caring. Great selection of cats.
Friendly staff who are very gentle with pets!
The place is amazing and people are so so so kind
Adopted several pets over the years, go to donate and pet critters. Nice actively considerate staff and volunteers. Nice affordable SNAP program for adopted pets even from, other shelters and found strays.
Very friendly and great with the animals!
The biggest heart ❤ and they care so much
Love going here to see the pets that are available for adoption
It was a very nice experience! They ROCK!!!
I really would love to volunteer for this company and get involved but its located so far out of the area that it makes it very inconvenient for people like me who do not own a vehicle and have to rely on public transportation; this place is so far out that none of the city buses are even able to stop anywhere near it. I believe the Chemung County SPCA would get so much more attraction and attention to their business if they relocated closer to more populated areas of Chemung County, like in Elmira, the Heights or Horseheads. I hope they consider moving in the future. Plus, the website has many errors on it that needs to be fixed and updated. Please, SPCA! I like your place... but Im just merely making suggestions.
Took stray in they are taking good care of him will take more..love them
Everyone is so nice there.
A great place to find a fur baby.

Go to place for spay/nueter
