I adopted my dog over a year ago from Bobbi and the Strays and my experience with them was amazing! I recommend them to everyone that wants to adopt. They treated my dog like family and even provided gifts on his last day. My dog at the time was very reactive, so when I planned a vacation it was hard to find somewhere to place him. Bobbi and the Strays knew his history and did not hesitate to help us. They really care for the dogs in their possession and I would definitely adopt a dog from them again.

Very helpful and amazing staff at Bobbi and the Strays! Adopted Hachi (aka Murphy) two weeks ago and the process was thorough but smooth. The staff is very caring for their rescues. Both Lizzie and Nikki were able to provide so much information about Hachi during our 1st visit and pickup. I highly recommend Bobbi and the Strays!Hachi is such a sweet dog, we are so happy to provide him a safe and happy home!

I contacted Bobbi and the strays about 3 weeks ago to help me with a seriously injured stray. I explained I will cover all medical costs but they proceeded to tell me they do not help with strays. There damn name is Bobbi and the strays but they don’t help with strays?! I captured the cat last night finally ON MY OWN and unfortunately it was too late and we had to have him euthanized. If I would’ve gotten help 3 weeks ago there could’ve been a chance to save him. These rescues are all corrupt and pocket the donations. They do not provide services they claim to provide. I will continue to contact all news platforms to bring awareness to the corruption and misuse of money and resources. Thanks for nothing.

Bobbi and Kim were extremely diligent in making sure a rescued male Yorkie was safe. This beautiful and sweet little guy followed my husband to our front door Friday afternoon. We leashed him, took pictures and put up fliers. We even walked him through the neighborhood hoping to find his family. No one recognized this well taken care of intelligent sweetheart. We took him home and got him feed and bathed. Unfortunately, my husband didnt care to keep him in case no one claimed him. He didnt grow up with animals, whereas my parents never saw an animal they didnt love. At times in my childhood, we would shelter up to 4 dogs, and we lived in a brownstone. Unable to change my husbands mind, I searched for a no kill rescue shelter. I found Bobbi, after reading her reviews and speaking with her on the phone, I was convinced they would make sure this sweet guy would go to a good family. Bobbi was willing to come that evening for him but my husband and I decided to allow another 24 hours for someone to claim this adorable guy. We never imagined wed fall in love with him overnight. By morning we sprang out of bed to go and play with him. Begrudgingly, I made the call to Bobbi to make arrangements to drop him off. After hanging up the phone literally, barely 10 minutes had passed and our doorbell rang. You guessed it, a Mr. Marvin with the flyer in hand coming to retrieve Lincoln. By the way, the Yorkie had no collar so my husband and I named him DeDe. Mr. Marvin told us his name was Lincoln and when we called the little guy, his ears perked and he came a running. As we said our goodbyes to Lincoln, I asked Mr. Marvin how did he lose Lincoln, to which he responded, oh he runs out of the house every time we open the door, this isnt the first time hes run off. I was mortified. Now Im thinking how can I rescue this poor guy. The owner was willing to relinquish ownership. I dropped Lincoln off with Kim the groomer and happily ever after. The only exception, my husband and I now have an empty place in our hearts, for we miss Lincoln so much it hurts. We take solace in knowing that Bobbi and Kim are tenacious and they ensure that ALL our their pets go to good homes. These ladies may be seem tough, but they have to be the voice for our furry friends and family who are voiceless and often maligned. Go Ladies and more power to You!!!I am posting two photos of Lincoln Before and after we gave him to Bobbie and the Strays. Dont you just love that face!!!

Bobbi and her staff were great to deal with. They thoroughly check out where their animals will be living and if pet and owner are suitable. They have A large selection of dogs to pick from. We picked our 4 yr old Pomeranian and, out of many dogs weve had in the past, this is the sweetest, most well behaved dog we have ever owned. You dont always need A puppy to be happy. It breaks my heart that someone just let her wander the streets. Many thanks again to the staff. Joy will be our joy for many years to come

We absolutely couldn’t be happier with our experience! We applied to a few other shelters/rescues in the area, and this one was the only one that reached out to us within two days of sending our application in. They are very communicative and thorough throughout the entire process. We never felt strung along, as they were quick with updates and were upfront that other people were also interested in the pup we met. There was also a virtual home visit over Zoom which was simple and straightforward; Linda was super sweet and informative.Besides the excellent communication, what really stood out to us were the people running the facility. You can tell how much Bobbi and each team member truly care about each animal and do the most to ensure they find great forever homes. We were given a folder with resources, medical and microchip information the day we picked up our pup. They also gave us a goody bag full of treats, toys, and some coupons in addition to the food he was already eating so we could transition. It was beyond lovely to see some volunteers come to see him off.We are so happy with our experience and are grateful for the entire team here, especially Bobbi, Pam, and Rich. Bobbi herself told us to call anytime and that the team is here for us if we need anything.Overall, great people who volunteer and prioritize these beautiful animals and want to find them the best loving home. We’re looking forward to updates and staying involved with their events and fundraisers in the future. We wholeheartedly recommend Bobbi and the Strays if you’re looking to find your forever companion!

I would give them zero stars if I could. I saw a beautiful dog on there website and fell love so I called the rescue but no picked up so I left a message. 3 days later they call me back and we set up an appointment to met the dog/have a house visit but the day before they cancel and when I text to set up a new day they never answer. After texting them for a week with no answer I call multiple times and no picks up. Four days later the dogs adopted. How can they do this to people, why set up a meeting if you never planned to come? I was so excited to meet him and they just ignored me. Never use this rescue, there terrible and ignore 90% of the people who want to adopt or give them a hard time. Dont waste your time on them its not worth it and will only break your heart, go somewhere else.

The first thing that struck me when I walked into Bobbi and the Strays was seeing the absolute love that the staff has for their dogs and cats. Each animal is given the proper care and affection needed to keep them as happy and healthy as possible. The staff was polite and patient, answering any and all questions we had. We found the perfect dog for us and the adoption procedure was quick and professional. The best compliment I could give to Bobbi was something that happened when we were leaving with our dog, Bobbi had to say goodbye and I could see the happiness in her heart that one of her dogs had found a forever home but the sadness in her eyes that she would not be seeing this wonderful dog every day. We will keep in touch with her. Bobbi is an amazing person, with a wonderful staff, and I would recommend very highly to anyone looking to adopt a pet, before you go to any other place, give a look at Bobbi and the Strays.

Ive had large dogs for almost 40 years, but this organization denied my adoption application on the ground of lack of experience. (Everyone who knows me was stunned.) At best the people running this place dont have any idea what theyre doing, and at worst they were dishonest about their reasons for their decision. I was able to adopt a Saint Bernard from a more reputable rescue group shortly afterward, and we are both very, very happy. Please go elsewhere.

Just brought our new dog Sammy home from BATS on 7/17/22 and our experience adopting from this rescue was nothing short of wonderful. My past experience with other animal rescues were shaky at best- often I would see a dog online and inquire but the dog was already adopted, or I would put an application in and get called to come meet the dog, but because I couldnt drop what I was doing and come in at that exact moment the dog went to the next available person. So when I applied at BATS I didnt expect much but I was so pleasantly surprised. I applied online for a couple of different dogs, and within a day or two my personal references told me they had been called. I assume they also spoke with my landlords and my vet, and they then called me to see when I could come meet a specific dog they had in mind. I believe they take the information on your application and match you to a dog that they think is a good fit, which is great! My fiancé and I were paired with a dog who was sweet but VERY frightened of people, so BATS had us come twice to meet with the dog and then a third time to meet the dog with our dog present. They let me know from the beginning that there were other people being considered for this baby, but I never felt strung along- after the second meeting they made it clear that we were at the top of the list. They also told me that had we not been selected, they wouldve shown us other dogs that wouldve been a good fit. I dont know if three meet and greet visits is standard for all their animals or if it was just the protocol for my guy because he was such a nervous baby, but regardless we didnt mind at all. There was also a virtual home visit which was fairly painless- I was nervous because I live in an apartment which I thought would count against me but BATS just wants to ensure the home and yard are safe. The day we came to pick up our boy, we were given a folder with medical information, and microchip information. We were given a goody bag filled with treats, toys, and a bag of the food the dog was eating so we could transition him slowly to the food we had. So thoughtful. But what struck me most of all is several of the shelter workers came to see the dog off, and asked to exchange phone numbers with me in hopes of hearing about the dogs progress. One woman actually gave me a little gift and a beautiful heartfelt card about what a good dog he is and how happy they all are to see him go to a good home. It was heartwarming!TL;DR: as the other reviews mention, yes its a process to be approved but I personally think thats a great thing. It is CLEAR that this shelter is deeply committed to the welfare of their animals and wants to ensure they go to the perfect home- how can anyone be mad at that? Yes, the adoption fee is on the higher side- but it really isnt when you consider that its covering neutering, vaccines, microchip. Also, most of the shelter workers are volunteers. Considering all that, and considering that a good dog is absolutely PRICELESS, I was happy to pay what they asked. Thank you Bobbi & all the volunteers and workers for being such caring people and for such a wonderful adoption experience!!

Extremely rude front desk staff. We unfortunately have to surrender our cat because we had an apartment fire, lost our jobs and he has medical issues that need tending to that we can’t afford. Who ever answered the phone was very rude, judgmental, condescending and overall not a person who should be answering the phone. We are in a time of need and are trying to find the best solution for our cat instead of just bringing him to a town shelter and she tells us that we NEED to keep our cat and do whatever it takes as if we haven’t been struggling to do so and are already so much in debt while trying to take care of him and have already explored every other option. And she knew that because we sent them a very lengthy text. She tells us “why would we want a sick animal” as if they are not a rescue that is dedicated to rehabilitating and adopting out animals in need. It’s not like he’s even sick, he just has stones. I really don’t understand. She made us feel like the worst people in the world for trying to find a better life for our cat, as any pet owner would do if they were in our situation. I am not saying that they should just take our cat because we are in need, but simply you just don’t have to be such a cold and rude person, especially when you are volunteering at a non-for-profit rescue shelter. This just shows me that this person does not really care for animals.

I accompanied my mother to meet a dog she was interested in adopting from their Freeport location. Upon arrival, we were greeted and checked in. Mickey, an 11 year old poodle was waiting for us. The staff was friendly, caring, and answered every question we had. While getting to know Mickey, the other dogs we saw seemed very happy and well cared for. My mother decided to go ahead with the adoption process which then included a reference check and a home review. I was very happy they went to great lengths to ensure a safe and good match for the animal to be adopted. Everything went smoothly and my mother was approved to adopt Mickey. Day 1 Mickey became the love of her/our lives. I don’t know how we managed without him. A huge thank you to Bobbi and all her amazing volunteers that matched us with Mickey and for all the effort they put in day in and day out for every animal that comes their way!

Great nonprofit, no-kill shelter that saves the lives of local animals and keeps the streets clean. When volunteering, the staff was welcoming. I have seen other reviews mentioning the difficulty of adopting; however, that is not the goal of their operation, and they want to fully vet adopters to make sure the animals and person are safe from one another. Keep in mind, these are cats and dogs that have seen abuse and neglect, and can be aggressive if not properly cared for.

I got intouch with the staff 10 minutes after my home visit was complete, only to be sent an e-mail that the dog I wanted was already adopted. Be up front with potential candidate and honest if they are being processed for the animal of their choice, no one else should be allowed to be processed on the same animal until the original application has been denied,. If I could, Id give them less than one star. This is the most unprofessional animal adoption/shelter Ive ever been to. I would strongly advise not to even try adopting a cat here. Instead of being concerned with getting the cats to good homes with proper fitting familys, they are more concerned about your home. I have experience with special needs pets, including cats. I found they had a little blind kitty, and rushed right down. I visited this cat 5 times in the span of a month, forming a relationship with him. They told me that my father and I were the perfect family! Then the home check came. Although I told them multiple times that we would make any accommodations to our home to make him more comfortable, they didnt hear any of that. This shelter would rather hold on to all their cats than set them free to loving homes (just because its not absolutely perfect). Any person that cares for animals knows a night with a loving and caring family is better than a night in a shelter with 20 others. They dont care about that. Do not go here. Worst/ most unprofessional people Ive ever tried to work with.

They showed us three options and we fell in love with one of them. We then put in an application for 3 different puppies and were told that we would be contacted. However, no one contacted us. We went back the following week and all 3 dogs were already adopted. Very disappointing feeling! We decided to give them another chance. We were told they received 9 puppies and wouldnt be able to see them until next week Saturday because they needed to be seen by the vet.Went back next Saturday and were told all 9 puppies were already adopted! AGAIN VERY DISAPPOINTING! At this point, it was pointless coming here but they insisted on showing us other dogs that we werent interested in at all! (We asked for a puppy & they showed us dogs 5 years old & older) Every dog was basically scary, blind, or mangy. When showing the dogs, they either bring them outside to you & you stand in the dirty, cold, disgusting yard with them OR they bring you into a meet & greet room that smells so foul! It will literally take your breath away! Finally we picked a dog we liked & they lied to us about his history. This poor dog is absolutely insane! There isnt any communication between the office staff & the volunteers who handle the animals. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU SERIOUSLY WANT TO ADOPT A DOG. it’s literally easier to adopt a newborn baby. there are so many hurdles and the smallest thing can easily get your application denied. (first time dog owners, no other dogs in the house) we tried adopting a small, sweet, older dog that clearly needs extra love and attention but he had one bad day and they told us no because of alleged aggression and us not possibly being able to handle it. How do you know we wouldn’t be able to handle it if it’s in a shelter environment and not a loving home like ours? Absolutely ridiculous, check out town of hempstead shelters instead. We filled it outBut did not have the information about two contacts. They would not accept two. Family members.names. They did not know how. Much the dog was. . They tried calling the owner of the agency. She as ill and unable to answer. We left and was told to call her on her cell. the following day. I just wanted to update the recommendations. The owner was obviously ill and was very unpleasant on the phone. She gave me a. Number of her assistant to call. She said she had the applications. My friend called the following day. The woman who answered said she did not have the applications and did not know where they were. She said someone would call him in a few days. PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ADOPTING FROM HERE! This place is horrible. We go there to adopt a dog. Not only are prices high but the adoption fees are higher then most places. The dogs do not look good, they look unkempt and had matted fur. They have volunteers doing the home visit, so some woman gets out of a truck where she clearly smoked in it (she reeked of smoke) with a dog sitting in the seat of the car. When she came to look at our apartment (a decent sized, 2 bedroom apartment, not cluttered in the slightest) for a home visit, she did not even look around the apartment but instantly went to the back yard. We had been struck with a natural disaster a few days before and a tree fell on our deck, not blocking the way to the yard. We told her the tree would be removed in a day or two. This issue was beyond our control. We have 1 acre of land completely fenced in, perfect for a dog to run around in, no holes or anything. She only took pictures of the tree and left. We went through a 3 week adoption process just to get denied for an issue we had no control over. When we called to get a reason for the denial they could not tell us why because there was nothing written in the chart, but the only reason that makes sense is the tree she focused so much on. If you ask about the reviews they will tell you there not true but trust me they are. Do not waste your time with this place. They are clearly not a good judge of character - an employee for Bobbi and the Strays informed us that they found 2 chihuahuas they just allowed people to adopt roaming the streets of Sunrise Highway after a week of having them. They search for reasons to deny rather than approve. People say adopt don’t shop but they make it so difficult to adopt. This dog we fell in love with was denied a loving family and a beautiful yard to run around in for no reason at all. Read these reviews and believe them before going, people don’t just write them because they’re angry.

I traveled 2 hours to meet a cat I really liked and I was told I could come back and pick her up after a virtual home visit. The lady who conducted the home visit said that I wouldn’t be able to adopt the cat because I have a frosted layer on my windows. I told her it’s removable and I could remove the layer so the cat can easily look outside. But they just turned me down. I guess they’d rather have the cat live in a 20”x20” cage than with someone who will show her love and affectio in a spacious apartment. Their logic makes no sense

I will give anyone who helps animals credit. 2 stars of credit is what I will give. I am a smoker and have a home that has had many pets. They have lived to 11 years old, 16 and 17 in my care. None of them passed due to an illness that could be attributed to second hand smoke. That being said, I do not smoke in my house unless its weather that allows the windows and doors to be open,as they were during the home visit for my adoption application. No one asked me about smoking,it was not on the application.I have screens,a vet, impeccable references , I have plenty of room and only one cat in the house right now. My home is not strange, dirty or cluttered. My current cat is very happy ,healthy and well cared for,as my vet happily attests.I was denied because a cat from this shelter would be exposed to second hand smoke. No one asked me about my smoking habits or I would have told them my routine. A shelter located in an industrial park full of tractor trailers and factories has far poorer air quality than my beautiful home. That shelter is bursting with cats. What a shame.I lost my other cat 6 weeks ago. He was 17 years old and insulin dependent for 5 years (I got him at 12 weeks old),he died of diabetic complications. There was a perfect little boy in the shelter. I asked them about their adoption process and they said look at their listing and fill an application. Every dog I chose they weren’t accepting applications for. Weird coincidence. I asked for a breed specific adoption because I know what I want. They would not accommodate! I have fostered dogs for 6 years. I am convinced that the animals here will end up in a good home because their process seems in depth which is necessary, I’m just not impressed wth their customer services skills.

Worst experience ever adopting dogs. Not trustworthy. We always adopt seniors and have never had such problems. In Nov 2017 we adopted a bondedpair of Pomeranians. My vet had questions as to whether the female was ever spayed. There medical records were very incomplete. They didnt even have all the shots they needed. I was never able to get a definite answer about anything from Bobbis. There were issues about the dogs past but since they originally came from Hempstead shelter (which I found out on my own) wasnt able to get answers. I paid full price for adopting 2 dogs at the same time. I didnt mind that, I even donated an extra 100.00 towards medical needs of another one of their dogs.Anyway I had to re-home the male dog because of his absolute fear of, and agressiveness towards my 30 year old son. These dogs were fostered, but none of their issues were ever noted or conveyed to us.The males is extremely happy with the couple who dog sat for them. The female has so many issues that the foster mom had to have known. She will not walk on tile or wood floors. She only stays on the area rug in my living room. She can not walk down steps. To let her out we have to carry her down the stairs. This is not easy for me to do.Truthfully this dog was not a good fit for us. However, returning her is out of the question. Im afraid that she will never get a proper home if she is surrendered to them or another shelter.I will not trust them ever again.

Throughout the years I have adopted my share of dogs and cats from this rescue.I give it 5 stars because these people truly care, they are a no-kill shelter and take great care of these helpless animals. I personally know they go above and beyond to do whatever they can to help them ask anybody about Bobbi and the strays they have been around a long time and there arent many people who love animals that dont know about them. They have two locations one in Freeport Long Island and one at the Atlas mall in Middle Village QueensPlease please please never buy a pet always adopt as long as people keep buying pets puppy mills will exist and they treat these animals terribly there are too many animals that need your help so please always adopt.

Very unprofessional. Spoke to the owner bobby and is very rude, unprofessional and biased. Just denied a dog a chance to be part of a family just because I told her that he will not be sleeping inside the house (except in extreme weather). She did not even give us chance to show what the living conditions will be at home. Her response was my dogs sleep in my home and I own the shelter and put my own rules. Very rude, I told her that her opinion is biased and thus hindering the chance for a dog to have a loving home and be stuck in a shelter for who knows how long and she got upset because I was frank. So sad that those animals are stuck there unnecessarily when they are so many loving homes ready to give them all their love.

I never thought that in a place like these there was racism. I came to this place with the intention of adopting a dog for my children since a few months ago we lost ours and wanted to surprise them for this Christmas. When they saw that I am Hispanic they told me that I had no dogs. My husband works around this place and he realized that they has many dogs because they are taken outside to play! they destroyed my childrens illusion. Since I arrived and showed my license they were very rude, they are bad people!

Went to the “shelter” to see a dog, was told the dog went to another location for an event. Go to that location, see the dog, fill out the application, and told to go back to the “shelter” to speak with Bobbi, only to be told at the “shelter that Bobbie is NOT in. These people are sneaky, liars, who aren’t operating ethically with the best interests of the dog. I’ll never recommend anyone ever get their pets here. They talk about “ don’t shop, adopt”, yet my three bedroom house with a yard is not good enough for them.

As children my sister and I volunteered for months here . We have always loved animals. When I got older and wanted to adopt I saw how racist and cold the owner truly is. Every animal we wanted to adopt she gave an excuse. These poor animals need a home despite what race or color we are . Unfortunately we were turned down on multiple occasions the animals were conveniently “unavailable” without explanation. Cats kittens AND dogs . Hopefully they find a home eventually. Love doesn’t have a color. I hope one day they understand.

My husband and I have been adopters, volunteers, and donors at this great shelter since 2012. Bobbi and the Strays is a great team of staff, volunteers, fosters and supporters who work extremely well together and are passionately committed to every animal at the shelter. Every year, they find new and loving homes for approximately 500 animals. Join us. Adopt, foster, volunteer, donate and educate. For a homeless, abused, or neglected animal, we have the chance to start their world over.

These people are rude and unprofessional. My dog dug out from under my front gate and landed up at this place twice. The first time they took his picture and took down contact information and gave him a tag. The second time he only had their tag on him because his house tag came off when he was digging for his great escape. When I contacted the the TOH shelter they had no record of him and when I called my local precinct the 5th they told me a lady by the name of Christina from Bobbi and the Strays came and picked him up. When I called they were closed and would not be open for another day. When I did call on the day they were open they could not confirm they had my dog until my husband called 3 calls later. Mind you he still had their tag on him and they NEVER contacted us when he was brought in. When I got there to pick him up. the walkway had dog filth on it and the women that worked there were sitting outside watching me up and down. When I got into the office and told them I was there to pick up my dog they told me $70 and cash only rudely. I asked them If I came to make a donation would it be cash only too? I asked them why are you charging me for a day that they were closed and they said nothing. But instead this tall strawberry blonde lady came out of no where and said dont you speak to your husband? I told him you need to bring cash as I stated earlier they are rude. When I went to the town of Merrick because that was the closest ATM and I came back they still didnt bring out my dog and the office was now filled with staff. The lady that I was told was Christina then later told she not Christina yelled at me and said if you had your dog chipped and neutered you wouldnt be here. When i asked her does she even know what she was talking about she got up and walked out and mumbled when she walked past me. I told them in the office that she was rude and unprofessional and thats not how I approached anyone here and then the lady who asked me if I spoke to my husband said I need to understand where she is coming from because she got a call from the precinct in the middle of the night (8:30pm) and the officers told her she had 15 minutes to get there or theyll put the dog back on the street. I told the lady that was a lie because the police wouldnt say that and I thought you said that her name wasnt Christina? The police told me they gave the dog to her. If you are a volunteer you signed up to get those call at whatever time of day and that doesnt mean showing the animals owner attitude when they come to pick them up either. They are RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, LAIRS and THEIR ANIMAL CARE IS QUESTIONABLE!!!I have been to North Shore Animal League and the Town Of Hempstead Shelter in the pass and you were always able to see the dogs and cats that were either strays or up for adoption at this place they keep them away from public eye.

I feel that any animal shelter deserves some praise for the difficult job that employees and volunteers have in taking care of abused, abandoned and given-away animals. With that being said, I give Bobbi and the Strays a One Star for mishandling our application, the breakdown in communication, and its treatment of volunteers.I first visited the Atlas Park location. I told them that I have a busy household and need a cat that does not fear active kids. I was told to go to the Freeport location as the cats housed at Atlas Park were in a home with little socialization and would not be a good fit. Okay, good information so, we headed-out to the Freeport location. We found a cat that was not afraid of being petted and was quite calm. We also met his sibling and was considering adopting her too if possible. There was a young female volunteer present who was very talkative and excited. The lady helping us told her to be quite while she was showing a cat for adoption; I felt bad for the way she was treated and thanked the young lady for her help. While communicating with her later-on, the young lady let me know that she is autistic. I let her know that I have an autistic son.I gave Bobbi and the Strays our completed application and they answered most of my questions. I asked when will we be contacted for a site visit. I was told in a couple days. After about 5 days of no response, I called and inquired about when I would receive a site visit. I was told that the Atlas Park location handles application processing and I will be contacted in the next day or two. Okay, no problem. Then days go by. I called again, I am told that due to the Hurricane (the one in Florida??) they had to find individuals to foster all of the pets, give the facility in Freeport (I thought the applications were processed at Atlas Park??) a deep cleaning and for that reason it has been a little hectic, but they would put a note on my application to let someone know I called. The next day I went back to the Atlas Park location and inquired about the breakdown in communication and when I would receive a site visit. I wrote down my contact information and the staff/volunteer took a picture of it and said that she would send it to the Manager. So, as I am writing this review, I get a call from a volunteer at Bobbi and the Strays. I am serious here, no kidding. The volunteer explained that we have been denied for a cat because we do not have screens on our windows. I paused and said Are you serious? No one has been to our house for a site-visit; ALL of our windows have screens. I also explained the time that has lapsed since submitting the application, my follow-ups to her phone call. She apologized and said Bobbi had asked her to call. Volunteers are not responsible for administrations lack of follow-through. I eventually thanked the nice lady and got off the phone.Today, my kids and I went to the Animal Care Center of NYC-Brooklyn location, we selected a cat with a great temperament, good first interaction and had an owner that turned-over all of their medical records, I got copies of the records from the Care Center and a Certificate for a free Vet visit. They were also able to give me detailed information on his (we named him Gibbles) behavioral assessments which Bobbi and the Strays could not.We did not have a good experience with Bobbi and the Strays. I hope this review helps anyone looking to adopt a pet.

First of all this place is a fraud! Theyre extremely unprofessional and rude! A very good friend of the family has an incident where the neighbor in our same building who used to dog sit my friends dog and decided not to want to give them back and take them to this shelter. Mind you, one of the dogs had a chip planted inside of him so the right thing to do in a professional environment is to scan the dogs for the chip & at least ask for identification for legal purposes. This shelter not only took in both dogs without scanning them but allowed someone to turn them in under false pretenses! So course my friend found out that the dogs were in this shelter and went to claim them but they gave her the run around even when she stated her name and information that would be found by scanning the dogs chip if they had done the proper procedures! So now they have spaded & nudered both her boy and girl dog, planted a chip freely into the girl dog because the boy had a chip already. So now theyre giving her the run around when all they had to do was follow the legal and proper procedures! I have heard phone conversations and the employees are not only rude but extremely unprofessional! This place needs to be shut down immediately for false advertisement! THEY DO NOT CARE FOR THE WELL BEINGS OF ANIMALS, THEY ARE IN IT FOR A QUICK BUCK! They want my friend to pay $1000 for good will services when those services were not granted permission and the dogs bought bought under a false name! And refused to look at her proof of ownership papers from the actual owner.Ps. This place does NOT deserve a star! But in order for me to submit this review it was a must. But I hope this review opens everyones eyes for the scammers they really are!

6 years ago , we went to Bobbie and the Strays and were looking to adopt a small dog.We had lost our adopted 5 year cockapoo Dustee to meditated anemia and were still grieving her.To make a long story short , they sent a wonderful woman named Jean to our home to see what the conditions for an adoptee would be and if we qualified. The next morning, they phoned us, and said they had this Maltipoo that needed foster care, and would we be interested. We jumped in our car and met with this little adorable Fur Baby , that needed TLC and lots of one in one attention .Turns out , after getting Cody neutered, and on a good 5 star Dry food and off pupperoni s, he became our healthy little boy. Now King of our Castle.lol. Thanks to the help of the caring staff that matched Cody with us, and Bobbi who sent us to her Veterinarians in Howard Beach !!!They are truly a crew of caring individuals with Bobbi as the Leader of the Pack!!. I have adopted many dogs over the years, did dog rescue myself and I have not come into contact with a place like this. You go there see no dogs, your not allowed because its stressful on the dogs. so your supposed to have someone there match you up with what you are looking for. How ridiculous. Its more stressful for the dogs to be there longer because you cant see them then to be acive for 5 minutes while you look. Im sure no one takes their dogs, if in fact there are any in the back,Then if you have a dog at home who is not neutered or spayed then they wont let you have one of there dogs. Excuse me, your telling me what I can have at home. These people are nuts. They have to approve before you even like one. My daughter took a pit from them about 5 years ago and it was a nasty thing that attacked my other dog I put that dog down so fast she didnt even learn her name. so there is your great adoption place. I suggest everyone looking for a dog avoid this place. they are volunteers who think they are ceasar milan. Unless you want a pitbull.

Not once was it told to us that they dont do out of state adoptions. They did however say that its good to meet the whole family, part of the vetting process. So we go cuz we think we have a chance. What a wonderful, caring place! Bobbi moved fast when I told her we needed to remove Bryan from my sisters house because she was moving to Colorado. She asked great questions and required his vet records before she would take him...a good practice. They sent me numerous pictures to reassure us. The dig looked more relaxed and happy than he ever had. I would recommend this place unreservedly!

I shouldn’t be surprised by a rescue. my mom and i have been wanting a kitten for a few months now. due to my ELEVEN year old HEALTHY show dog (who is a CHAMPION in the american kennel club) not being neutered, they denied my application. the owner apparently won’t change her views on animals that aren’t fixed. if my dog is HEALTHY why should i have to remove his anatomy? they also need to fix their view on breeders. there are good REPUTABLE breeders out there. my grandparents for one. breeding for YEARS with perfectly healthy puppies and happy families. my mom and i have taken in rescues and fosters FOR a rescue when we lived in florida. so disappointed with this rescue and their views.

I have a close friend whose family adopted a dog, she was nice, old in dog years. Wasnt healthy so she needed the care and love of her owners. Sadly they returned her. I was told they were upset, whoever they is or are. I would consider this as a place to adopt a per in the future.

I LOVE this rescue. I adopted from them and also occasionally foster as well. The staff and volunteers really know the animals in their care and make every effort to match each pet with the appropriate adopter. Some of the animals have special needs and they always receive the best care possible and their needs always come first when adoptions are considered. The place is clean and all the animals are well cared for.

My husband and I were denied because the fence in the backyard was a foot short of the other fences, so a poor dog, who has been sitting in the shelter for three months lost out on a good home, mind you they allowed us to meet with her and we fell in love. I am truly heartbroken at this point. Completely wrong of them to do.

Disappointed that someone did a home inspection and thought the cat my husband fell in love with, didnt think it was a suitable home for him. We have had pets in our home before??!!! CATS and Dogs for MANY years... I will NEVER go back there! Have made food donations there in the past.. NO MORE! YES, this left a bad feeling in my heart!!

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! I don’t even know where to begin because there’s so much that’s wrong with this hole in the wall. The “meet & greet” room stinks like a barnyard! The office space is tiny and easily gets over crowded. No one knows anything that going on!!! I man, NOBODY! The staff are poorly trained. You can easily wait half hour before even being acknowledged. Every step of adopting my puppy was a fighting process. From putting in a application and being told “we will call you” except never being contacted until YOU contact them. Having a home visit done by an unprofessional who doesn’t let you know they’re on sight, until you happen to look outside and see them chatting with your neighbor about you adopting a dog and asking for you. Being ready to process the adoption papers except, your papers are now missing & now you have to re-do your home check. After passing the home check again and redoing paper work, I was told I could bring my puppy home except now I have to wait 2 weeks until he’s seen by a vet and ready to be sent home. Basically They’re very unorganized, unsanitary & unprofessional so don’t come looking for that here.... seriously!

These people are not very helpful, and quite rude. Tried calling because I live on long and they are based in Long Island.....so one would think it makes sense to call but then they told me to call another number and I did. That place gave me a list of other places to call and to my surprise, Bobbi and the strays were on list so I called them back and told them, the place you told me to call had you on a list to call and since I live on Long Island, you are on Long Island....im calling back. They then told me because of the dog I was trying to find a home for was possibly a pitfall they didnt want to help. Id like to also ad, it says they accept all BREEDS. I suppose my message to anyone reading this is, they should really change there name to Bobbi and the SELECTED strays who are unhelpful

My family and I adopted from Bobbi & the Strays in July of 2015. We adopted a sweet male Shiz Zu after touring the facility and filling an on line application. The process went rather quickly once we settled on a particular dog. We had a home check and then my husband, daughter and our other dog came to see our potential dog. Once they met with the whole family we got to take home our wonderful new family member who now has found his forever home. I found them to be thorough in their adoption process but at the same time it was a fairly seem less adoption process. They even sent a dog trainer over to our house for a free visit to answer any of our questions on how to acclimate him to his new home. I also met with the family who fostered him prior to our adopting him. They answered all my questions and even gave me their telephone number should I have any questions.Overall I was happy with the adoption process and the level of dedication that I found at Bobbi and the Strays. I would definitely recommend checking them out to anyone thinking of adopting a pet.

This place looks okay until you actually need service. They make you wait, and wait, and wait. Poor customer service to say the least! And they want you to adopt one of their animals? Take a course in run-a-business 101 whether youre a non-profit organization or not! Last time I checked all business need their customers. Being ignored and overlooked is no way to run a business and from previous reviews, it looks like theyve been doing this for a while. Its a wonder how they stay open!
