Giovanni was fantastic. He made sure we were taken care of. He was so helpful and we loved him and we will be back 💖
Excellent! First time visiting this gem today. Bagels are generous, fresh, warm, and delish. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a wheat everything and was very impressed. They have a nice selection of bagels out of the ordinary ones you find in most bagel shops, and many cream cheese selections.Staff were friendly and helpful. Price was a little high but reasonable. Highly recommended if you’re close by.
A nice park in East Village to enjoy the sun and take some rest. The facilities around the park are in a good shape (playground for kids, benches etc.) and the park is relative clean. Unfortunately there is open drug consumption and I’m not speaking about alcohol or weed. Right in front of us was a guy smoking crack like it’s completely normal and a group of junkies were sharing some pipe. I feel truly sorry for these guys but would appreciate if the police would control this better.
One of the best park around lower east manhattan.. highly recommend for pet. And small but very beautiful.
This is a different Tompkins than the one I used to hear about. I found the park to be clean and peaceful. They even have a Ping Pong table. I like the statues I saw. I wanted to see a memorial they have in reference to the General Slocum tragedy but unfortunately I wasnt able to locate it. I was surprised that when I asked people in the park about it they didnt have a clue. Ill have to go back and find it.
In fourth grade, my school took us on a walking tour of the Lower East Side and the Village. It was an ersatz version of a visit to the overpriced Tenement Museum. The whole experience seems slightly absurd, in retrospect. Our teacher described how these buildings, adorned with their little architectural flourishes, had once housed throngs of immigrant New Yorkers, crammed together five to a room. The intended message, however, fell flat with us - we were all immigrant New Yorkers from Flushing, so this was hardly a revelation. What struck me instead was the grandeur of it all: the stately six-story pre-war buildings and the charming park at the center. To me, this was the height of bourgeois opulence, though I didn’t know those words at the time. I knew when I grew up I would escape smelly old Queens for some charming little space one of these walk-ups. Even then, I harbored a certain disdain for anything unchic. Or perhaps I had already begun to internalize a neurotic need to expel any part of myself that might seem vulnerable, hideous, or pitiable, to create a mirror of myself detached from the last seven, fourteen, twenty-one years of my existence. The park itself is lovely, although I havent been in years.
Tompkins Square Park is a relaxing place in the East Village. The park is relatively small in size (about 10 acres), but it has plenty to do, including a playground for children, an off-leash dog park, chessboard tables, and green space for picnics and reading. The park has plenty of trees that make for a pleasant afternoon stroll.
Was here for the Jazz Festival. First visit. Nice park and layout. Needs some structural work and rest room maintenance, but dont let that hold you back. Good place for kids and dogs, too. Now sit down and take a rest.
I absolutely love how quiet and serene this park is. Unlike the other major parks, this one isnt as busy and its full of locals. You wont see too many tourist here, so its nice to slow down and gather yourself here before exploring some more. Theres plenty of good food options around, so you wont have to travel far. Good for a quick visit.
Such fun! Whether friends, family or strangers you meet here, is all incredible fun. Its clean, good lawns, plenty trees for sitting or picnicking, laughing and loving on sunny wonderful days. If you love nearby, I seriously recommend going. In fact, JUST GO! Youll love it
Small dog park is amazing. This past week they changed the dirt to grass turf! Wow it’s now my favorite place to take my dog. He no longer smells after we play in the dog park, but I have a feeling it will get over crowded now when the weather is warmer.
A chill lesser known park in NYC. Moderately crowded and clean. There were people with their picnic mats - I saw some dogs, people with their guitar and beers. I also saw someone setting up stage for a mini music concert later. Great for a sunny day! Only downside is that there is no subway close - you have to walk for 8-10 minutes to the closest station.
My niece was playing in a basketball game. It was great. I loved the art, good idea for playground behind the basketball court for the younger children. Everything looked goodVery clean park
Open field of fresh air! Clean with limited seating so it’s mostly for walking around.
Nice place to have a rest. Lawn, kids play
Busy NYC park serving East Village, some similarity with Washington Square park. Nice stroll across the park while passing through the area.
A really beautiful park ! They have awesome rock concerts every now and then. Super cool young bands getting great exposure. Its not fall and the trees and slowly starting the brown. The leaves are turning brown and starting to fall and it gives the park a wonderful asthetic. Lots of playful squirrels running around too. Nice to just sit and read a book, play some table tennis or other sports with friends, run around and have fun or just chill out and relax.
Little smelly with trash cans and bags all over. Entrance hard to find on E 10th St side. A lot of construction/scaffolding in certain areas of the park. This park is good for kids; there are a couple of playgrounds, picnic space, basketball courts, two squash courts.
Nice park to play basketball, exercise, ping pong tables and more.August and September are the best months to visitThe dog park is fantastic, it has 2 for small and big dogs
This is one of the best parks to go and have a good wonderful day every day. Its mainly peaceful and the people are not every hard to get along with . But if you are a trouble makers please stay out of the park , this park is mainly for people that love to enjoy the dat and the people around us . Other than that , have a wonderful day 😄
Where neighbors come to dream of their own lawns, pool, basketball court, baseball fields and children playgrounds...
Possibly my favorite park in the city!
Its the same park, but without the shanty shacks and bandshell...the far s/e corner of stuyvesant farm. It has a living growing tree suitable for Christmas lights.
Trash overflowing with trash, pot-a-potty needs servicng 2 weeks ago homeless people in various parts of the park. On the plus side, the doggy part was busy and the basketball courts look nice
2 weeks ago we had a very early snow ❄️🌨️ storm. Anyway I walked through just before the end, around 6:30 am. Hope you enjoy, Ill be putting up some more post so please FOLLOW. TY
Nice area to take family for a walk, a picnic or even play in the park. They have I believe 3 play grounds for children to play in. A dog park, which has two sides one for small dogs and other side has big dogs
This is a holy place for Hare Krishnas. It has the Hare Krishna Tree under which Srila Prabhupada, the founder of Hare Krishna movement, chanted and kicked off the world wide movement in 1966. My wife and I went to this park in winters so it was pretty dry but it was still clean and had nice walk ways.
Great place to bring your pup. I love that there is a separate area for small dogs, just makes it more fun for everyone. It’s also huge so there is tons of room to run around. Plus there is a doggie pool which is great for the heat or if you’re dog is like mind all the time.
My favorite park in this big beautiful city. Picnics start around end of May when the grass grows in and its warm enough. The evolution of this park over the last 5 years has been wild.
Small, cute park. Good seating for people who prefer tables to picnic on. A dog park large enough dedicated just to pet owners.
Beautiful park, is not one of the biggest but that makes it special, if you want to relax, take a walk with your dog this is the right place and not to mention that you will have lots of places to eat something all around the park
It is a small sizable park , old design making for a enjoyable walk around, then the neighborhood abc Aves
I love all the parks in the city but this one has a special place in my heart. Capturing the real vibe of the East Village, this is the best spot to relax and do pretty much anything you like to do. Great restaurants and bars frame the park and boutique shops dot the in between spaces. A must stop if you are exploring the Village.
Love the park for the music venues and the fact its not separated from the rest of the park so u get to meet and talk to alot of different people 😀 #NYHC ❌NEW YORK HARDCORE👊 follow me on fb and insta at Michael Altyn and my doggie @mrlootch on Instagram.
Ive been going to Tompkins Square Park for over twenty years now and its a nice park to relax and hang out theres a dog park and a skateboard ramp area but unfortunately when you come to this park you have to be very vigilant to stay safe because of the homeless and drug addicts that also come to this park I mean just last week there was a shooting early in the morning around 10:00 am some kind of drug deal went bad so it is possible for danger but that kind of danger doesnt happen all the time or even everyday but things like this do happen but if you stay alert and be aware of your surroundings you should be safe and okay to enjoy the park
I heard about this place from song of band- Mumford & Sons what is great, indeed! That’s why I decided to go there in very cold and dark evening. Could not say more than it is clean and very nice looking place. Worth visiting for sure!
Overall Great park. Musicians were playing, there is 2 playgrounds, a picnic area, and an area for dogs. Bathrooms were kind of gross. Cart vendors had toys and treats available for sale.
HAre Krishna!Historical Park for many Generations to come. This is the first park in the West where Srila Prabhupada founder Acharya of ISKCON International Society of Krishna first started singing Sri Hari Nama Sankirtan - The congregational chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna and Rama in 1965 with a group of his early western disciples. As predicted by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (500 years ago) the Chanting of Lord Krishnas name shall spread to Every Town and Villge of the World. fifty years on this has remarkably been achieved by the devotees of ISKCON.Shri Hari Nama Sankirtan Ki jaya!
Competition at a high level loved the intensity the guys played with and the park is vastly beautiful and something for everyone to enjoy!
This is a great park in a good location. Always some really cool events going on here. Lots of play areas for children. A few stores and bars surrounding the area.
Great park with people of all walks of life. Make sure to visit Rays before or after the park.
Lots of fun at the doggie costume parade today, but it was so crowded it was almost scary!
Was there with photo shoot. Its a nice neighborhood park. Good for the family.
Love Tompkins Square Park, evolving over my 47 years there! Pause at the memorial to the Slocum disaster, when over 1000 Lower East Siders perished on a pleasure outing, mostly children. Then find the delightful Miguels Mountain. Notice the Tai Chi practitioners and the fitness training area, the handball courts, basketball and baseball fields, and in summer, an outdoor pool. Dont miss the Hari Krishna tree! Theres a much frequented and well maintained dog run, plenty of seating, three excellent childrens playgrounds for all skills and social levels, and the park is surrounded by spaces to run to if it rains - the NY Public Library, St Bridgets and Trinity Lutheran Churches, and many coffee shops, bars and restaurants. Plantings and upkeep seem well managed and this park is enjoyable by all ages and demographics.
Best dog park in the city, numerous park benches, wonderful lawn areas to sit on or against trees, and of course the famous Hare Krisha tree. This place holds nothing but happiness. Beware the SW corner of the park though (near the chess tables). Lots of vagrants/drug users.
I have fond memories visiting this park from when I used to live a short walk away during my first year in the city. Obviously historically significant, it’s since known for the dog parade, regular live shows, and for being a peaceful oasis for New Yorkers living in the neighborhood.I used to love visiting the NYPL branch nearby and coming here to read for a bit, or to get a bagel at Tompkins Square Bagels (best bagels in NYC imo!) and enjoy it under the trees here. It’s a small, but lovely park!
Dog park, playgrounds. Seems like a great place for kids. They have fences around the grass, which is silly. A park that makes you stay on asphalt. They should give you access to the grass spots. So this is not a park to bring a blanket and expect to lay down. But could be great for reading a book on one of the many benches.
Love this park! I Take my little dog there daily, the nicest people and a lovely nature bubble. Not always super clean in specific areas but overall love coming here.
Are YOU in the mood for randomness?? This is the park for you! Aging punk rock metal concert? Man feeding pigeons from the largest feed bag youve ever seen? Wedding photos happening in the middle of everything?? Weve got it!
Best jungle gym for calisthenics south of Central Park. Plenty of basketball courts and tennis wall.
FROM OUR DAUGHTER, I like how its very fun and at the starting of the entrance of the park theres a ginormous really fast slide and I really like that slide!!!
The park has 3 playgrounds for the little kids and people play live music on the weekends. I usually listen to the music from the playgrounds. It has a good vibe. People only comments on the homeless community but they are doing they own things. I never felt in danger. I take my kids through the park during the day. It is cool. The bathroom are closed . Don’t try to go in the portable toilet. They are horrible . The park has a lot of history.
There are many new immigrants here. The toilet is under repair.
I dont love the layout with its circuitous paths, the central E-W thoroughfare that is comparatively blocked of northern access routesIts got a very junior size park feel but with the footprint of an anchor park like Madison, union, Washington etc.The best thing thats got going for it if its location. Its a nice thing to have in alphabet city but then again, its in alphabet city. The park is kinda grungy and not a lot going on except the cyclically recurring feeling of needing to have ones guard up at night, or when I visited after a long absence in 2021 and saw that the border of the fence inside and out had become the most despicable variety of a degenerate tent encampment. That has since been cleared out (no doubt to the crying of full time activists).Lately, however, its been quiet. Nearly empty at night. Some using the courts during the day or sitting at lunch/dinner time.
Once a year, there is the dog Halloween parade. It gets busy but it should be experienced once at least. If you dont have a dog you could always borrow one just for this day.
The dog walk is a great place to observe numerous little drama plays in a moment. When your tired of that, just look around at the human wildlife set along the well manicured paths. Dont forget to look up. Last time I ran across a pair of juvenile red-tail Hawks.
Nice dog park with a big dog side and a small dog side. Small dog side can get a little cramped at times. Dog owners are all very chill. Watch out for the rat burrows, especially if you have a rat terrier breed of dog, rat bites are not fun. The ubiquitous scent of weed and the random screaming homeless person are all part of the charm.
Great park with a lot of history! There are regular free Punk Rock shows and jazz performances during the summertime.
Nice park, not too well known to visitors but highly recommend coming here. Any New Yorker will know this park has had a bit of a reputation in the past, tons of history, though fortunately it’s a whole different park now. Very much recommend visiting.
Took my dog there for the Halloween Dog Costume Parade. It was awesome but insanely crowded. If you dont mind the crowds and love dogs, then this event & park are for you!
Legit I have lived in Ny for years and first time I tried this and came because the reviews were so good. It for sure did not disappoint. Food was filling delicious hot tasty and it wasnt even as messy as I thought it would be and for sure say yes to the mikes hot honey
One of my favorite spots - great vibe, great for people watching, pets, basketball & sunning yourself :)
Mens restroom is in bad shape with dirt and general disrepair. Park seems to have a small dog area, playground, and a skate or BMX park from what was once the basketball courts.
Great dog watching park and impromptu music. Lilacs in bloom help cover the pervasive stink of pot.
Nicely appointed park with plenty of activities for all with decent rest rooms.
Peaceful park with good amenities for dogs.
Wonderful park, nice place to play chess or just relax on a bench.
Great place for picnics, dog-watching, people watching, playing basketball, lots of other recreational activities.
Right in the heart of Alphabet City this place is great for watching dogs play in the large and busy dog park. Its located near some of the best nightlife in NYC and is great place to smoke a joint with friends 👍.They have basketball courts that are always being used, also cool to watch. It does get a little creepy at night and the homeless people at night can get intimidating for people not used to the city. Many films and TV shows film here, Russian Dolls on Netflix takes place all around the neighborhood and much of it happens in the park. 👍😉
Our family toured this park with an amazing tour guide True Tales of NYC Walking Tours and also again with Free Tours by Foot also an amazing tour and we learned different things on EACH tour!!!1874 the first protest took place here. This was the year of the first stock market crash. Factory owners went bankrupt – laid off workers – left people homeless – setting up camps in parks. The population was majority Eastern European and Russians that brought some of their socialist ideas with them to America – pamphlets were passed around with these socialist ideas – they tried to get the city to listen to them but the city ignored them. So they got proper permits to protest legally – the night before the protest was to take place the city revoked the permit and the protest was met with cops on horseback to arrest them!!! This was the beginning of animosity between government and protestors that continues today!!! It was also the start of the Union movement which you can thank them for things like the 40-hour work weeks and health insurance.1970/80s Thompkins Square Park was known as needle park which makes it ironic to have a Temperance Fountain here at this park. Because it was the temperance movement that gave rise to 1920 Prohibition which gave birth to mafia
Great neighborhood park with music on the weekends and public bathrooms. I have even seen some hawks here.
Incredible place of historical significance with The Hare Krishna Tree that A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada started chanting under to create a worldwide movement in the 1960s.Also, almost every morning at 9.30am - there is a special FREE vegetarian meal of santificied food that is served to anyone and all! Its freshly cooked every morning by a team that is headed by a student of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, Adi-Purusa das. This guy really dates 👌
You can happily go in there no problem today back then you avoided the entire Alphabet City all together especially at night your done clipped 💊🔫
Get yourself a bagel from Tompkins Square Bagels and enjoy it at this lovely park. Listen to jazz and pet a puppy.
Bathrooms are under construction, and the park needs to be re-paved. When walking, you can trip and fall
Where local people are. Free run dogs area. Place for sun bathing
Tranquility Im NYC, this park has allot of history, beautifully done on the botony side, allot of colorful flowers and trees, a bike ride to the fountain at 5am is my thing, I live close by
Beautiful Park. All I wanted to do was sit down on the bench with my dog in peace I had my headphones in and everything and other dog owners constantly all their dog to walk up to my dog. It was so annoying and disrespectful.
If you are in the Area you should Check this Park out its not Bad
Nice - many people enjoying the sun lying on the grass and sitting on the benches
Always a good time. Would be cautious late night though. Terrific dog run for big and small dogs.
It was such a great time in NYC. The park was very beautiful and the staff was so nice and friendly.
It’s a nice place, but so much homeless around. However, you can chill, and enjoy the jazz music like me today.
Amazing spring at Tompkins Square Park!
Its cleaned up nicely. When warm-weather you better get there early if you want to sit on the grass. Often Life music... Cute little farmers markets along the perimeter too. Must stop at Rays Candy across the street for a refreshing egg cream!
Its a really fun and pretty park. I go there every single day. The only thing is that theres a lot of chaos there on the regular. If you like that, then 5 stars; if not, 3.Also the bathroom situation can be tricky sometimes imo.
You should never go here, ever! It’s full of benches and fences and people. 100% sucks.
Great public space to hang out.One of the nice things about this park is obviously not always too crowded compared to other parks in the City. offers many sports including basketball. Cool live Dj performances and cool people over the weekend. Citi bikes are available around the park. Great coffee shops and restaurants surrounding the Park.
Nice park, cute squirrels, I missed flowers but the reason might be that it was Feb.
Whats to say ?Tent city, police riots, nickel bags, the stench of urine, homeless, the Krishna tree, pastor Diane, and a million other reasons to Love this place that was such an influence on not just the L.E.S. , but myself.
Beautiful Park and friendly folks. Sometimes there are musicians.
We love the playgrounds at Tompkins Square Park. It’s our go-to park in the neighborhood. It’s clean, safe, and there are always a lot of people sitting on the benches and walking around. There are always some homeless people and crackheads like you see in any NYC park, but there seem to be far fewer than there used to be.
Tompkins Square Park, formerly a place of riots which forced the park to close years ago. It’s cleaned up nicely with lots of benches to sit on to read, meditate or people watch. In warmer months there is live music. And if you get a chance, you can stop by Rays Candy across the street for some fried Oreos and other goodies. The park has a large playground, dirty bathrooms and many dogs. Also a place to picnic and free food for those who need it on Sunday afternoons.Parking on side streets, with some streets closed so you can enjoy walking and enjoying the Alphabet City neighborhood. A must visit.
We stumbled upon Tompkins Square Park while on a stroll in the East Village, and were pleasantly surprised by how much there is to do, from the couple of adjoining playgrounds that our kids played on, to the paths that connect to a dog park and the other grassy spaces. We even noticed a skateboard park on the northwest corner. The park is quite shady with all the trees, which also make for great cover during sudden summer rains.
Great park for adults, kids, dogs, and squirrels! So peaceful.
Yeah , I spent time there today and I enjoyed myself to myself riding my bike all over the place . When I was over there there was this long line and come to find out that there was people giving out free food. I told them that they are doing a wonderful thing for the people in this park , and one of them said to me they give out food every week. They are always in the front entrance to the park .
Nice place! Tompkins Square park has lots of stuff to do !!
This is a beautiful public park with a community feel. There are often bands playing here, with a dog run and plenty of benches and grassy parts for relaxing. Adjoining courts are available for sports, including skateboarding. There are some good cafe, takeout and Bodega in the area to get food to eat in Park
A simple, cute park with separate child and dog areas.
Cute park with a skate park, picnic area, kids playground, workout zone, and more. Just watch out for the drug addicts. Nothing you can do about them though. Otherwise a great place to go hang out for a bit. You’ll find live music from street performers and more.
This park has something for everyone - three separate childrens playgrounds, two dog parks for small or regular dogs, performance areas, a few different lawns for relaxing, well-maintained plantings, a secluded section with a sprinkler area in summer, meant for young children and quiet seating. Also for picnics and celebrations! A seasonal swimming pool, skateboard area, handball court, exercise area, basketball courts - Im probably forgetting something too! Things to look for: the Temperance monument, the memorial to the Admiral Slocum ferry boat disaster, the great tree dedicated to the Maharishi who first brought meditation to the East Village, Miguels Mountain (barely a hillock now) and you might even see the red-tail Hawks, and dont forget the rats and squirrels!
One of the few parks in the area to be able to do calisthenics. We need more locations like this in the city. Handle bars can be a bit thicker than what you are used to but better than no bar.
A large and lovey park with various amenities such as a jungle gym, skate park, playground, and more. Benches align the expansive pathways adorned with towering trees that make for a great fall viewing. The park loses a star for the occasional litter- otherwise a great place to go for a walk or read a book.
Keeping its alternative lifestyle vibes, though the population is mostly upwardly mobile.
To me the park is alright but you always have to pay attention be careful in there because theres alot going on as far as people who suffers from Mental Illnesses sleeps in the park at night and be in the area in the daytime.Other than that its a old park and need a face-lift/ Remodeling. I think its more suitable for people who want to walk their Dogs and take them to the Dog park there .
Plenty of communal space for sports and other family-friendly activities. popular spot for your friendly neighborhood addicts and crust punks to run amok and potentially offer you some ware for coinif you like to accidentally overdose on a pot brownie and fall asleep on some bench on your day off, without the judgment of your fellow New Yorkers, then consider this park a safe space.Dont for a second worry about looking out of place, since youre always more likely to see about 3 junkies dozing off at any given time than you are to see a complete family with two married parents.stay great, nyc!
Nature beauty, i like Most this place
Loved this park today! My husband and I have been here several times but today we stumbled upon a live metal/rock band playing in the park. Mosh pit and all! I believe the band was called, “Guitar Army” - they played for a few hours but we caught them at the end of the show. It was still so much fun.
Gotta love Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. Plenty of squirrels to see and also a dog run if you have a dog (or just like watching them play)
Such a nice neighborhood park with something for everyone and a lot of history. The mornings are quiet and a good place to enjoy breakfast. There is a big childrens area too. The whole park is in bloom now. Enjoy all the flowers both annual and perennial.
Another Halloween hit, praise whoever allowed the dog parade to continue tradition!
Love this park. I have been going here since I was a youngster. Its changed dramatically over the years in some ways and not at all in others. You are guaranteed to spot someone famous walking their dog or sitting on a bench reading a book. In Summer there is a kids pool, free movies on Fridays and free punk concerts on Saturday afternoons.Youll will often find a little Mexican man walking through the park selling Italian ices for a dollar, theres is also a few basketball courts, kids playground, a off leash dog park and loads of colourful locals.
Obviously, if youre from the neighborhood, you already know the park, so let me break it down for visitors...Ave A & 10th st : Skater parkAve A & bet. 8 and 9th st: Largest (but oldest) playground*Ave A & 7th: Just dont go in there / sketchy area*Ave B & 7th: (2) Smaller (newer) playgrounds/ 1 for bigger kids other for totsBetween Ave A and B & 9th st: Dog parksAnd also a ping pong table / also Restrooms there - Do not use them!Between Ave A and B & 10th st: basketball courts, handball courts, monkey bars, workout areas, very testosteroni part of the park.Yes, theres a public pool open there in the summer / nope. I dont think you should ever go to it. I did a decade ago and had an awful experience: weirdos, its under a tree and always has debris in it, and its very tiny. Hard pass. The area near the pool is sketchy also, so avoid it.(Barely) Grassy areas to picnic on or sunbathe, feels like mostly transplants do this and not any natives to the area.Rats come out Hardcore at duskHawks in the park are pretty cool.Otherwise, its a meh place. Its decent enough to walk through, but its not outstanding.
My puppy Constitution absolutely LOVES the dog park for the little ones! He always has so much fun! I am extremely surprised by how clean the dog park is considering this park can sometimes attract some crazy things lol. But all in all, my puppy absolutely lovessss this park! 💗💕💗Thank you, Tompkins for still being around since I first stepped foot in this park almost 20 years ago! 💗💞💕😁🐾🐕🦺🦴🧘🏻♀️• Instagram: Aly.mfc• Twitter: Alylivecam
Great place to walk around and purchase local organic products.
It was drizzling a little but the area of the park where I was was tidy and not too noisy. The plants had varying stages of budding. There was a lot of squirrel activities. Most of them were digging for nuts. The pigeons and sparrows were out and about as well. It was a very calming visit.
I love small dog park , my dog always enjoy and make new friends here
Took my boy to the dog park. Tompkins is very spacious and a diverse community.
The Halloween dog festival was today!
Went for the halloween dog event I had lots of fun however the park was filled with graffiti many people were smoking and drinking although I liked the ease of finding bathrooms they were dirty no toilet paper or sink or soap more seating is needed especially if there is a big event planned
Oh babe, meet me in Tompkins Square ParkI wanna hold you in the darkOne last timeJust one last time…
Everything people love about NYC is embodied in this lived in and relaxed neighborhood park: innovative artists and performers; punk music; people of all ages, colors, genders, professions collaborating in city living; urban wildlife (hawks! pigeons!), a fantastic dog run. Lined with iconic old apartments and some of the best restaurants in the city (including standout vegan food).
Love the park. So many places to sit. A portion where residents take their dogs. The bathroom could use a make over. In an emergency it serves its purpose. I rate the restroom as dirty. Again the park is great.
Went the farmers market and loved the selection of fresh apples and veggies from local area farmers
A nice place to take a walk and sit for a bit
Beautiful
Charlie Parker jazz festival each year usually the weekend of the 29th (Parkers birthday)
Had a great time with Khloe at the Holloween Doggie Parade 🥰😍🤩😁
This was a great park to stop at during my walk around the city. I loved the people watching as there were a lot of families, young people and old people walking around. I loved seeing people practice there sports here. There is one part of the park I did not like and it was were most of homeless were sleeping. The park had a great area where children could play and seemed mostly safe for what I could tell.
It is no secret that this park is a very well designed and nice to walk around and lounge it. That being said it attracts a lot of people and on a nice day will be considerably populated. The area around the park also has a rich night life and a variety of restraints. My first time there a band played some really good music. There are chess tables and plenty of seating as well as a ping pong table.
Not a big park. Skateboarders took over the ballfield. Still can be quite serene and tranquil. Has a nice grassy area where many ppl sunbathe. Has a dog park but yet ppl still (at times) unleash their dog and have them roam in areas outside the dog park. Overall its ok.
Long hike. Not 2 hrs more like 5. Worth it if you want exercise.
Nice dog park. It gets muddy after raining and sometimes it smells. However the dogs are very cute and they had so much fun together. 🙂 People are very chill, happy and nice.
Went for a free concert in the park. Beautiful park on the lower east side. Had an amazing time. The weather was perfect and the park was packed. Couldnt of had a better time. Bands were off the hook. New York Hardcore in New York. They brought everything with them and left it on the stage. My thanks go out to Black and Blue Productions for putting on the show. You guys are awesome! Thanks to the bands for your hard work and dedication to the hardcore scene.
This park is a great place to go to get out of your apartment. There are beautiful trees, birds, people and lots of pets as well. Here one could just sit and enjoy the sunshine or the shade, theres plenty to do for all ages.
Theres a lot of homeless people there keep your wits about you pay attention to them watching you for weakness theres a guy on a skateboard thatll take your phone or purse if youre oblivious to your surroundings.
Pretty awesome park with a ton of variety and often live music. Two dog parks, for small guys and large. Some casual open grass space for lounging, sports fields and courts, and the neighborhood pool. Theres tons of history here. The neighboorhood has some of the best eat and drink around. You could spend days around here, easily with all the places to enjoy.
Great place to enjoy a very diverse crowd people from all corners of the world. It also has separate play areas for children based on there milestones. It also has 2 separate dog parks both for large & small dogs. As well as handball & basket ball courts.
Home of the Hare Krishna Tree. His Holiness A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada used to chant beneath it.
Im a L.E.Ser 38 Yrs living here, and Tompkins Square Park has always been my park. Not even the FDR does it for me. Theres always something happening at the park...bands, music, movies, activities for kids during the summer, you have the dog park basketball courts and even the pool. Over the years, the park has slowly cleaned up IYKYK! Im a mother now, and she gets to enjoy the park, too!
Lovely park large trees and flowering bushes
One of New York’s most underrated parks. Sure it gets weird at night but that adds to the magic of it let’s be honest. Great spot to hang during a sunny afternoon with all your friends in their carhartt pants. Benches are relatively comfy and plentiful. You’ll be sure to find a spot in sun or shade.
At the risk of being that guy I liked it way better in the 90s.
Full of interesting people of all ages enjoying the skateboard area, relaxing on a blanket on the grass, strolling, and sitting on benches reading or just enjoying people-watching. Gardens are wonderful for Spring color in April... tulips, daffodils, cherry trees, and much more flora to enjoy. Restrooms there were open as well.
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday they have a group of people called Harry Kushner between 8th and 9th st on ave A right in front of the park they line up against the gate if the park and the group arrives around 9:30 am they serve Indian style vegan rice and vegan cake which I personally love 😘 its free try it out!
This park have really old big trees, flowers musicians and all kind of different people gather ..(there is a little portion of the park where you can see the homeless take over) but overall is a nice place I always feel safe walking around.basketball, tenis core and a big area dedicated for kid and dogs too.
Solid NYC Park with a lot of life. You can tell how much the community loves this park. There are a variety of passive and active entertainment options available throughout. The City appears to have forgotten about this park and it has some dated elements and most of the grassy areas are off limits. Great place to take a break!
Tompkins Square Park is a great place to take a walk, sit quietly in the shade of trees or even take in small concerts by performing musicians. Lots of places on the outskirts to get snacks & drinks. Places to skateboard, play basketball, table tennis, and childrens playground. Also, a nice dog runs to take your loyal friend for some playtime and exercise.
Park itself is fine but the smell of dog doody coming from the dog pen is off-putting. Also, dog owners, not understanding that everyone isnt a dog person, will let their dogs get too close to you. There is also a moderate homeless/junkie problem. Last time I was there I left within 5 minutes because a smelly dude kept swerving into my personal space and muttering.
Another great historic park in Manhattan!
Great NYC park. Lots of great events especially punk/ hardcore shows going on from spring to fall!
Use bathroom at your own risk. Most of the benches are old and worn down . The park supervisor does not care and will act like she has people cleaning the park . The skate park needs a renovation. Better water fountains would be nice . A work out area would be nice also .
Migrants everywhere, the people in this community voted for Biden, Adams, and Holchul. Dont complain, deal with it. You wanted them here, since you voted for open borders.
Lots of young people, it does get crowded. If you looking for serenity this is not your park. If you looking to be around lots of young New Yorkers, this is the place. You can play basketball 🏀 at the court or just lounge in the many open spaces for picnic 🧺 or just seat by the benches and observe people going about their daily’s life
Nice park to sit down and relax.
I love coming here to watch the big dogs in the big dog run. Theres also a good energy to the park, not too over run with kids, not too many hipsters, just folks from lots of walks of life hanging out and socializing. Along those lines, I almost always find a few characters doing interesting things that give me stories for the next several days. In short, great dog and people watching.
Nice park with plenty of benches and trees and birds, peaceful to sit down after a long walk, not a lot of noise expect for the birds and the occasional passerbys.
Having just visited this Sunday afternoon, I can confirm that this entire area has developed into a full-time open air drug market...the new bathroom facilities now serve as booths for homeless addicts to use in plain sight while tourists and their children walk idly by pretending not to witness the horror show in front of everyone.. the cops only supervise and make no quality of life arrests. The musicians, artists, and performers of the past have clearly migrated elsewhere and abandoned this degenerate cesspool. As a NYerr I feel ashamed displaying our great city like this... I dont recommend anyone bring their children, dates, or seniors anywhere near the Village at any time any more...day or night.
Its a charming and quiet park. It has handsome wrought iron fences and towering trees that give the park an old character. There is an adorable dog park inside that is fun on the weekend. They also have tennis courts and a basketball court as well. Hope this helps!
Love this Park in the East Village on the cusp of alphabet city... lots of people of all varieties & a dog Park as well. Usually live music if a street performer drops in & stone ping pong tables... U never know what your going to discover. Especially nice place to go sit & converse with others, its a Great Back Drop with much Positive Randomness.
Nice park. Feels a little odd reviewing a park in my neighborhood, but if out of towners read these, then I recommend swinging by this park for a bit. Frequently has live music, table tennis, a dog park, kids playground, and frequently has volunteer events and farmers markets there. Can also spot hawks and other animals
Beautiful public area, one side is populated by homeless ppl. But overall very quiet and peaceful with allot of beautiful ppl around.
I grew up in NYC (Brooklyn), so I remember all the controversy over Tompkins Square Park from the riots back in 1988. Power to the people! ✊When I moved into the neighborhood (East 12th St. & Avenue A) to live with my college boyfriend in 2000 when I was in grad school, I saw how much the neighborhood (& the park itself) had RADICALLY changed.Mainly due to the effects of gentrification, but that wasnt anything new to me, because Id seen the same thing happening in the neighborhood in Brooklyn Id grown up in (think upscale Bistros with parklets on Cortelyou Rd. in Flatbush) so that concept was NOTHING I hadnt seen before.Although I am MUCH MORE a fan of the West Village (aka: Greenwich Village proper) and Washington Square Park; I came to ❤️ the East Village/Tompkins Square Park in a way that I could have NEVER imagined. I adopted a beautiful rescue German Shepherd/Border Collie mix dog in the summer of 2002, and she ❤️d going to the park (we lived two blocks from Tompkins Square) and it was also an easy commute over to NYU/Steinhardt where I was doing my post-graduate/fellowship work.Carmelas ❤️ of the park inspired my own. When we left the neighborhood for San Francisco in 2004, our last stop was at Tompkins Square so she could run around in the dog run before we got on the road.
This park is a literal ghost town, especially during the night. Not only is there barely any light sources, there’s also barely any people, really sketchy. You would think with all the busy areas around it the park would be active but nope.
Great park to sit and relax
I often go watch the dogs play at the park when Im bored. Great place to have lunch but not necessarily the best place to hang out at night. That being said, its the East Village so its honestly fine. Also great place to see punk shows!
For a small park, (1 avenue long & 3 blocks wide) its nice. It has the standard amenities. Theres a childrens section with swings, a slide, etc. The dog run is divided into two sections for large & small canines. There are numerous grassy knolls with benches on the walkways and everywhere is clean. Theres even a ping pong table. However, to really feel like youve been transported outside of the city, you must go to Central Park. The landscape is not flat & when you look up you dont see buildings anymore.
Not the biggest nor prettiest park in the city, but a good one for families with the playgrounds and dog run. The landscaping isnt particularly pretty or unique though it may have some of the fattest squirrels in the city. The layout is also odd in that it is huge, but the space doesnt feel incredibly well used. Even in the center you call see the surrounding buildings and hear the street noise.
Awesome park. Multiple playgrounds. Calisthenics bars. Bathrooms that are out of order sometimes. Dog park. Basketball courts. Plenty of benches to sit down.
Time warp park. The city as it should be remembered.
This park isn’t really anything special and doesn’t seem like it would feel safe after dark. Apart from the public toilets (avoid unless you’re desperate) and the dog watching, there’s really nothing to see.
The park can use a better management effort to provide a cleaner park for the East Village neighborhood.
Tomkins park is in many ways a melting pot of the village if not all of NYC. On any given day you can find folks from every walk of life socializing and taking in the riches if this city. There are often musicians artists and artisans sharing or selling theyre latest creations. There has been an increase in the use of the park as a safe haven administration of controlled substances so be aware especially in the evenings and in restrooms
Sometimes theres live music and little stands that sell plants, fruits, and other goodies. There are a couple childrens parks here. I particularly like the jungle gym by the basketball courts near avenue b where folks can go to get a good workout. Beautiful green space. Highly recommend even just for a stroll.
Its probably the coolest park on the lower east side. Its nice that they have play spaces for all ages, they could use a better sprinkler situation, but they have a sand box! The kids love it. We spend hours here and they never get bored.
Just a beautiful little park on the lower east side. Has an awesome play area for the kids and plenty of grass and benches for friends to lounge and hang out. There is also a local hawk that visits this park. We watched him catch his dinner and eat it in a tree... awesome experience!
Dirty dark park with to much metal and fencing on the other hand there is something for everyone here: playground for the kids, a dog run for dog lovers, flat ground for skaters, sports enthusiasts and plenty of green space that makes you feel caged in, assuming its even open. But dont worry the park safe and a great escape from the city.
Great Place to chill out and get some historical information.. George Washington is the flag post of Tompkins Square Park
Great dog park with pens for both small and large dogs!
What was once a small haven to enjoy an evening walk and watch dogs play in the run, has now become a scary place when the sun goes down. Its a shame what this Mayor and politicians have allowed to happen here. My wife and I were walking through the southern part of the park, where all the homeless embankment are, and witnessed a man and a woman beating another man with sticks. No one cared, seemed like business as usual. My wife called the police and then we left before it escalated. The northern side of the park is better and you can still walk through and watch the dogs, but overall a real shame.
Great park for families, skaters, basketball, and dog runs. The pool is extremely small so its probably best for smaller kids. Its in Alphabet City and has been a place for people to come together. Theres always some event going on in the park to join.
There are often free concerts and things here. Its an excellent place to come chill. Also: take a deep breath. Whats that lovely scent that hangs in the air?
On unforgettable moment we just have New Village Music Festival. Great shows and sound system. Bathrooms were available all the time. Art all over..Happy entire families gathering all over the park. Long live Tompkins Square Park.
I like taking my dogs to the dog run there. Its pretty big and in the summer they have a doggy pool for them.
I love this place. I practice Breaking-Bboying here in warm weather. I love playing handball and the fitness bar sections. I even like the random shows and the pop-up, organic food marts that show up. Great dog park, too. Great place for skaters, as well.
Its GREAT to have our NYC neighborhood parks back. I got my lunch from Odessa Restaurant on Avenue A, but they have no sidewalk seating so I took it across the street and grabbed a table. It is so nice to SAFELY get out again!
This park has come a long way from the junky-ridden mess I used to have gym class in back in the late 80s (Thank you May or Dinkins!). Its a wonderful place to see free music in the summer & a very family oriented spot these days.
Better than it ever was. Entirely safe. One of the best dog runs in the city of thats your thing. Great facilities for kids but some of them are disastrously spilled and write unhappy. Dont enter or leave by the southwest entrance, where quite a few homeless sit, quite peaceably, true, unless you want a good chess challenge
I used to live around the blocks back in the days when it was scary. Now it looks peaceful with dog run and people of all ages hanging out. btw, a lot of scenes in the Netflix series “Russian Doll” starring Natasha Lyons were shot here inside and around the park.
The dog runs here are great. We bring our dog almost every weekend and there are always dogs of all different breeds and sizes. The park has two areas - one for small dogs and one for large dogs - we find it very helpful as our little guy sometimes gets intimidated by larger dogs. The only negative is that the ground in the dog runs is a clay-like substance thatll leave Fido in desperate need of a bath after playing, but totally worth it for the fun hell have.
Lovely city park with a variety of options for recreation. Two dog parks, basketball courts, strolling paths, nice plantings. October is the Annual Halloween Dog Parade. Not to be missed. Less appealing after dark.
I’d give it 5 stars if it weren’t for all the homeless and mentally ill people who frequent the space. It’s a cute park with good sun bathing for east villagers! Cute spot that is always nice to take a walk through. Tons of history here!
I pass through Tompkins quite often and find it to be a very nice calm walk on nice days. However there seems to always be construction, people also tend to dirty the park way too often. But overall it isnt a bad place when you need time to think, read, hangout, or take out your kids and dogs.
This park was probably very nice at some point, many many years ago. There are features and sections of Tompkins Square, such as 2 dog parks (1 for young & smaller dogs and 1 larger section for...welll obviously, large dogs) that remain a ò
The park is beautiful. Yet the night crowds are ruining it with revelry, garbage and drugs. The day time is the best and early evening. The lawns are well kept and the amenities are good.
Probably one of the most bland parks available in Manhattan. Its pretty big and pretty empty. If you smoke weed, are a skater, or are looking for a place to do drugs in public then youll definitely love this park. If youre just looking for a place to sit down and eat some food, youll also have no problems at all. If youre looking for a good time? Maybe you should find something else to do.
It usually has a casual atmosphere, sometimes with street musicians playing in the background. There are also a lot of squirrels running around the area looking for nuts, and they dont mind coming up to you. The same applies for the pigeons.
Although it was much gritter in the 80/90s and while there has been a substantial effort to clean up the park you can still see people sleeping on benches overdosed on drugs or drunk inside the park on any given day and time. Its not a place you want kids to run around in.
Arguably the most diverse and socially and culture interesting park in Manhattan with always something to see or do. Great live music, excellent playgrounds, and abundant good food nearby. Farmers market is smaller than Union Square, but good for a week of groceries (depending on what you like to eat).
