Annie was AMAZING with my rescue pup. We had behavioral issues that really made it challenging to keep him. School for the Dogs was our last stitch effort to create peace in our home with our k9 family member. She taught us practical lessons that have lasted for a few years now! Thank you Annie!P.S. he is small but had a personality larger than life that needed to be nurtured.

We had the best experience and education through School for the Dogs with our pup! We were lucky enough to receive an extraordinarily generous scholarship through the school, and had the chance to try many of their programs. Adam and Amy’s Puppy Kindergarten class was so helpful to us in working with our new puppy. Basic manners and training techniques, how to understand and communicate with her, socialization (plus puppy play times together), and so many additional resources online and in person. I highly recommend the school, and the space is setup perfectly for all the different classes/daycare/playtimes. The store has a wide range of the best products for many of your dog’s needs. I really hope to make it back for more advanced level classes and playdates soon. Thank you all so much!

We rescued our boy Joey who had been terribly neglected and possibly abused, and even though we were giving him as much love and support as we could on our own, we were at a loss in terms of how to handle his behavioral issues. Unfortunately, despite all the interventions that we tried based on our own research, the situation was only getting worse. We loved Joey so much, but we knew that things were not sustainable if they would have continued the way they were going. We were feeling scared, hopeless, and discouraged. Finally, we found School for the Dogs and Anna, and that’s when things finally started to turn around. Being students with extremely limited resources, we knew that we couldn’t afford to pay for the type of care that Joey needed, and we felt so sad and guilty that we were not able to provide the best possible life for him. When we were approved for the scholarship program, we finally saw the first glimmer of hope for our family.Anna completely changed our perception of what is possible when it comes to training dogs. Her methodology, which involves lots of positive reinforcement and not punishment, helped to strengthen our relationship with Joey, and to understand his needs, preferences, and communication style better than ever before. It almost feels like she taught us to read his mind, and to anticipate his reactions, which gives us a much better handle on them. She taught us new commands and feasible ways for us to continue implementing Joey’s training on our own. She also helped to guide us through the intimidating process of seeking out medication for Joey, helping to round out the support that he needs.Today, we are so proud and grateful to report that things are finally getting better, not worse. Joey is moving in the right direction, and we are more confident than ever before that we know what to do to help him be calmer and to even keep himself under control. I was most impressed with how Anna employs principles of psychology into her training, recognizing both the individualized and universal needs of her students (including dogs and humans alike). I used to joke that it seems like she is ‘psychic’ with dogs, but now I understand that by knowing what to look for and how to approach different situations, anyone can learn to communicate and work with their dog more effectively, no matter how far-gone things may once have appeared. We will be eternally thankful to School for the Dogs for the amazing work that they do, as well as to the generous benefactors of the scholarship program for enabling us to attain the resources we needed to finally enjoy greater peace and happiness in our home. Thank you to Anna and everyone else at School for the Dogs for all the incredible work that you do for our community!

We cant say enough good things about the caring staff at School for the Dogs! Dolly RUNS to school when she knows she is going there, and its no wonder as she is so excited to be in the care of such excellent trainers. She has learned so much in her private lessons and in her Day School sessions with her favorite humans, Adam, Erin, and Madeline. She is more obedient, confident, and most importantly, happy. We implicitly trust the staffs approach, expertise, and thoughtful care in all they do for Dolly and all her fellow doggy students!

We brought our dog to Sidewalk Psychos, and learned so much from Anna on how to train him using positive reinforcement. When hes triggered, hes not interested in treats, so she taught us alternatives that get his attention. The space is neat and clean, and the trainers are kind and attentive. Id definitely recommend anyone with a dog of any age to reach out to find out which trainings will work best for them!

Thank you, Annie & the dedicated team for teaching me How to Dog! Cause isnt that at the very core of every great relationship—getting into their world? And, man its been fun.I feel more related, more connected, more bonded to my furry companion through training. Maybe we should stop call it training altogether? If anyone can do it, Annie and her team can.Ive been into dogs my entire life. Ive gotten both good and bad advice, some of it cringe worthy in retrospect. Everything that the School for The Dogs has taught me has resonated; kindness, mutual respect and understanding-- powerful engagement vs. force. And, weve just gotten started. I cant wait to see what the coming year will bring. Thank You.

Nothing but good things to say about School For The Dogs! We did all of our puppy training here with our dog, Scully, and it was the best thing we could have done. The small-group, puppy training classes were hosted by trained experts who helped us learn a ton about our dog, including important behavioral cues that we still rely on years later. Thanks to The School For The Dogs, our dog is properly socialized and can be around dogs of any shape, size, temperament, age, etc. This makes things so easy when it comes to finding daycares, groomers, dog walkers, dog sitters, etc.In addition to puppy classes, we also had a trainer come to our home and help us with commands, walking on leash, etc which was super helpful (we had a bad experience with an old school style trainer beforehand so it was really nice to have a friendly instructor who used a positive reinforcement approach).Another cool thing -- the school has this great little store built in so you can grab whatever you need for you pup (toys, treats, etc). So convenient! I recommend The School For The Dogs to anyone I meet, its 5 stars all the way!

Love going here to pick up treats for my boy! They have dried lamb liver, lungs, chicken heart and all the things with no additional/add-ons that would make it “bad”.Thank you for having all these things available for our fur babies! ♥️

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISHONEST BUSINESS!!!!Love these guys just stole $182.91 from me -- The price of a day session that the school LAST MINUTE cancelled and then put an expiration date on. I did get an email letting me know that I had one month to use the credit before it expired, but I emailed them asking for an extension as I was out of town, which they so nicely declined even though I was understanding when they cancelled the session on us.When you do actually go for a day school session, they never go over what they worked on with our dog. Its just drop off and pick up with no communication. You try to ask questions but nobody knows any answers. There are better places to go with better customer service. Its disgusting behavior!

Brought my dog here a few years ago for puppy training and it’s a great place. Now that she’s three, she’s developed sensitivity to loud noises in the city and I just called for their help and one on one sessions to assist with this are $450 FOR 90 MINUTES. I’d love to be able to work with this team again but these prices seem very unrealistic and I wanted to provide feedback to management as the person on the phone just now was unable to do anything (about pricing). Is almost $500 per 90 minute session the going rate for a NYC dog trainer these days? If so, how can I become certified and join your team?!

This is long overdue but I’d like to say that SFTD was really kind to me and my pup Jack. We were lucky enough to receive a scholarship, without which we couldn’t have attended their programs. To me this shows that they care about their students. The classes really set us up for success. They were an integral part of our foundational training. Very grateful. I recommend.

School For The Dogs is the BEST thing that can happen to a new dog owner in NYC. My husband and I got our puppy last summer and enrolled in Puppy Kindergarten. We were so impressed with the school, all of the trainers (and the friendly members!) that we bought a handful of private sessions and several other services. The trainers are incredibly talented and smart - the real deal. I would recommend SFTD 100%!

Kate Senisi is EXCELLENT. I adopted an older dog that needed training due to previous owner’s abuse and separation anxiety. Kate gave me all the resources I needed to have a good relationship with my dog and give him more confidence about being alone. There is so much wrong information out there about dog training, and I am BLESSED I found Kate and she was able to open my eyes to positive reinforcement and dog training that actually works. My dog has become a very sociable, relaxed, obedient, friendly, and above all, a happy dog. School for the dogs is worth every penny.

Wholeheartedly recommend to any dog owner in the area. We joined the SFTD community shortly after we got our rescue puppy and theyve been invaluable in helping us get through it all.Whilst dog training is the main draw, SFTD offers a lot more. Its a business geared around helping local dogs have happy and settled owners. :) Their services include:- Dog training- Group classes- Dog sitting- Dog merchandise- Daily play groups (school yard)Of all their services, we use School Yard the most - its a safe and enriching way for your dog to get their daily exercise.Staff are fantastic and deeply experienced, many having backgrounds in behavioral psychology and training other types of animals (dolphins, etc). We count many of them as very good friends.Dont think about it, contact them already!

I recommend Annie and her staff highly enough!Annie made a house visit to advise us on the best way to help our 9-week old Basenji puppy adjust to his new home. After 3 sleepless nights of crying and accidents, Annie provided invaluable tips and advice which made a world of difference immediately. After making a few small, but important changes, our puppy slept through the entire night without a whimper. It was an amazing transformation! Our puppy is now well adjusted and happy in his new home. Thanks, Annie!!!

We love SFTD! Our little pup has taken multiple classes and trainings (and playtimes!) here, and she is so much better and smarter and happier for it. All of the trainers are caring, knowledgable, great people, and the facility itself is very nice too. Weve also done virtual (online) webinars and classes, and we were super pleasantly surprised how effective they were. SFTD is a gem.

My dog Mu and I are lucky to live six blocks away. If we didnt, proximity to School For The Dogs would be, no exaggeration, reason to move. We go almost every day for School Yard, their trainer-supervised dog park where the dogs interactions are seen as teaching moments and the humans pay attention and care. Some days we do Day School, though I work from home and dont need daycare, because I know every minute with SFTD trainers is quality time for Mu--and support for me as I learn to solve dog problems, teach new behaviors, understand dog language, and generally be a better dog person. Mu is shy, but he LOVES going to School! The super-positive training ethos, helpful, welcoming community, down-to-earth vibe, and sense of humor about it all are so much more than Id hoped for when I first Googled dog trainers. Lord knows the East Village didnt need another restaurant or bar, it needed School For The Dogs. I wish every neighborhood had one.ps--The store, along with the staffs expert advice on (and good taste in) gear, is worth checking out, too.

This is a wonderful place to bring your dog for puppy kindergarten, training, or just playtime! My dog Tilly Tatum and I had a great experience here, and I continue to be grateful to Annie and everyone at SFTD for their expert guidance, welcoming atmosphere, and patience with dogs and their humans, even now that Ive left NYC. Tilly is a well trained and calm city dog, and I have to credit SFTD. Thank you!!

Purchased item online on a Thursday. Was told Monday it would be shipped the following day. Tuesday came around and it was refunded since they sold it over the weekend. If they sold it online why sell the item in stores? Awful customer service and a waste of time. Their store is not recommended.
