Nice joint... greenery, benches, and wide open spaces. Offers good respite against the rat race in the Belly of the Beast.
An excellent park to swim work out or relax. For the next few weeks they also have a free rendition of Shakespeares A Midnight Summer Dream.
This park is a true, beautiful Harlem gem! They take extra great care of the grounds and foiliage/plants.The dog park is a great addition as well. The art exhibitions & installations have been a great conversation piece and culturally enriching.I feel our neighborhood is finally being given the proper attention and care again...gentrification, definitely. My family has been in Harlem since 1932. Im glad for the restoration to when Harlem was clean and safe.
In terms of the park its very nice. There are playgrounds, plenty of space for walks, there is the swimming pool in the summer. I didnt like that being with my 3 children by myself there were a few people just hanging out there looking at us. That make me feel unsafe to walk aorund and explore more.
This park is always popping. There is a swimming pool, playgrounds, swings and plenty of rock climbing activities for the kids. There is also an outdoor theatre. Facilities include locker rooms with bathrooms. This park truly has all the amenities the parks & recreation department can offer.
The atmosphere is great. Doubt that is the park planners success but rather the majority of visitors - assumingely members of the local community.
Nice enough place during the day but it turns into a whole different monster at night. Its best to avoid the hill especially, as shady characters start crawling out of the woodwork doing shady things in the shadows. It would be nice to have a more secure presence at the park so you could actually feel safe taking in the views at night but alas, that just isnt an option, and no view is worth being robbed (or worse) over. I guess thats Central Harlem for you though. Its just a shame since it is a very pleasant place during the day and a nice environment for all ages, and as I said before, the views from on top the hill would be great at night but, I just did not feel safe at all when I had attempted it.
As a photographer, I enjoyed hosting sessions in Marcus Garvey Park. As a tourist, its a good spot to rest your feet and people watch.During my last visit, there was another neighborhood event with tons of people and live music. The park is a good size, so theres plenty of room for your activities. As a photographer, this was wonderful for my skate boarding subject. The promenade is wide open and well composed for portraits. Add this one to your list.
A beautiful park to get some sun and a good dose of greenery in your day. Im a dogwalker and bring dogs here all the time. One of my favorite parks in the city. There is even a dog run at the south east corner for more sociable animals.
Beautiful park, especially during Autumn. The trees here are amazing, and they are all yellow and red at that time of the year. Small place, but lovely and feels like a special New York vibe here. There are nice playgrounds, so its perfect for families with children.
I saw the last performance of the Classical Harlem Theatres A Midsummer Nights Dream at the parks amphitheater, and it was amazing!!! I love the interpretation of the Shakespearean play, from the set to the music and the dance. The costumes were quite fun as well. Fantastic performance overall.
Never found the bathrooms, but exploring here with my two grandsons was amazing. Also, the Gaylord Family Réunion was held here, and the food and company was amazing.
6/14/21 Hadnt been there since the renovation so I was pleasantly surprised to see the fresh painted benches & the stage looks amazing. The landscaping all in & around the park is beautiful! The acoustics couldnt be better and a friendly, mature crowd made it so chill. Looking forward to a great summer of events there.
Yea kid! We out here for Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. Doing the audio and production and stuff, but let me ask you this: What do you know about cool summer nights in an amphitheater, next to your girl or mans snuggled up under the moon light listening to classy jazz music and witnessing one of the apexes of modern musical performance right in your back yard? What if I told you that sometimes, there is dogs there and people will let you pet em? Sounding better and better by the second if you ask me.
Went to see Shakespeare in the park and it was an amazing performance. This was a performance put on by the Classical Theater of Harlem and it was called the Midsummers Night Dream. What an amazing cast so very talented the customs were grade the singing was great the dancing was great I absolutely loved it. Please go see if you can Im not sure how long it will be there but please go I might even go back again.
Such great vibes and the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater was beautiful for the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival 2023. I will be going back for sure to explore more of the park
This is a tough one. This park is great that it is there for the residents. But its had a checkered past. There have been violence there - they close the upper part of the park. There is a really cool tower that was used to look for fires in the city after built about a decade after the civil war in 1875.Its a shame that the city doesnt budget more money for this park. It services more people with its parkland, courts and swimming pool that any of the other parks that are better maintained downtown from this park. There are often young artists displaying their art here which is ALWAYS cool to see. I like this park and wish the city would realize it should be a National heritage site. The graffiti in the picture/s do not reflect my views but that of some park dwellers.
I went for a Classical Theater of Harlem performance at the amphitheater. The space is great, and it was a wonderful experience. Im so glad harlem has such a gem. Ive been in other areas of the park that also seem fine, but the amphitheater space was really great. Cant really speak for anything else.
Nice park, full of locals and BBQ on Sundays.
It’s a pretty decent park in the center of Harlem. It has a jungle gym, basketball court, dog park, work out area, recreational center, baseball park, an amphitheater and so much space. The only downside is that many homeless people hang out around and it can get sketchy sometimes .
“ I have no desire to take all black people back to Africa; there are blacks who are no good here and will likewise be no good there.” Marcus GarveyEnded up here it did not disappoint!! Thank you East Harlem!
I live between Central Park and this great local East Harlem park. Of course Central Park is my favorite but I always enjoy my walks through Marcus Garvey Park. There is great outlook area that grants you a beautiful South facing view of 5th Ave with the Empire State Building making an appearance in the distance. There is a plentiful presence of squirrels running about and also beautiful birds.
Gorgeous park with beautiful amenities. The Richard Rodgers Amphitheater is absolutely stunning. The restrooms were very clean.
The park possesses all the necessary amenities. However, it is currently suffering from a lack of maintenance. During my recent drive past it, I noticed that the parks departments seem to be neglecting their duties in maintaining it to its full potential. Unfortunately, the pool is closed, and the presence of garbage scattered throughout the entire park is quite off-putting.
Pictures taken from a wonderful production done at the park. What a wonderful experience.
Clean atmosphere. Jazz & Shakespeare plays w/multicultural actors. Bring water & munchies. A few juice & food vendors available.
Love this park go everyday its my gym . Pool . entertainment etc bathroom water fountains basketball park .swings benches . A staircase to heaven to see everything theres always something happening!!
A favorite environment to workout, grill BBQ and watch summer stage shows. Theres even a free public swimming pool to cool down in.
It has public bathrooms. For the summer it has swimming pools. Its has a gim that you can join. I also joined the gim. Very good.
Harlem’s answer to Washington Square Park, perhaps? Great place for a walk, nice stage that is often in use by performers of all stripes. Junkies up around the north gate, usually, but they’re so stoned on fentanyl they don’t seem too dangerous. Come on, junky, get off that pipe and have some barbecue. I live nearby and come through quite often.
Nice park in the middle of Harlem with a public pool. And a small hill commanding a nice view of the area. Wouldnt visit after sunset but no issues during daylight hours.
Loved the bleacher style seating availability, and no seat is too far from seeing the performance
This park is a great neighborhood resource with many activities and events. They have playgrounds for kids to enjoy, a dog park, and a recreational center. The recreational center offers exercise classes, and they have an outdoor pool thats free to visit in the summer. This summer, they had the Charlie Parker jazz festival at the amphitheater. This was a great free event for everyone to enjoy. This is a nice park to visit during the day while the sun is still out. This place gets very sketchy once its dark, so just be cautious and come during the day.
The bottom part of this park is nice, with playgrounds and nice rock scenery. However, if you have small children who like to climb, be very careful if they choose to climb up the rock hill. I saw several pieces of glass and even hypodermic needles.best to go up the hill using the steps to get a view of the surrounding area and stay away from any climbing.
I’m going to give it a two stars because this park has so much potential but it lacks on so many things . Why can’t our kids have a decent playground to play in instead of repainting and adding paint over paint why not remodel it in the winter time so our kids can have a beautiful park to play in . The sprinklers are gone . I have no idea why when that was such a great touch to the park for the kids . I just wish they would upgrade this beautiful park for the neighborhood it deserves so much more than what it is right now .
The Universal Church had an event today with one of their groups Unisocial. The park was an excellent place to have a good and clothing give away. The park is clean and has an area with work out equipment, basketball court and doggie park.
Beautifully kept park when we visited but if your a tourist maybe avoid this spot. The old fire tower at the top of the park was being patrolled at all entrances and not by police. 95% certain it was a drug spot and our British attitude probably threw everyone off.
Great calming park with a lot of scenery. There is a pool section. Yep outdoor pool in a park. There is a theater area where they show films, usually old ones, until 10pm.The park also has two levels, second level closes at dusk. So go fort and explore!
Its a great park. Friendly neighbors, always some sculptures, beautiful flowers and a wonderful performance space! Plus grills!!
Outdoor seating was better than expected if you plan to see a show you wont be disappointed
I love this park. In the past few years the parks department has been adding art structures to the park which makes it very appealing. The park has a indoor swimming pool, small playground for kids, swings and basket ball area. Theres plenty of seating and grass area for outdoor activities and BBQ area and tables for the summer months. The restrooms are located inside recreation center and ID had to be shown for access. There is a homeless mens shelter near by. Therefore, men sit around the park most of the day. If that makes one uncomfortable this park may not be for you. Other wise its a clean and beautiful park. I
After work I like to stroll through the park and enjoy the greenery. Lots of people come through with there dogs and enjoy a good time with there fur babies. Rain snow or shine I got to the park after work just release a long day of work.
This is a five star park but the city’s neglect has brought it down. I love this park and it’s hard to give it a low rating. It has beautiful rocks, a pool, lovely walk ways, a baseball field and an amphitheater. The money is being put towards the arts but what about the upkeep of the playgrounds and the amenities that community residents need? The play grounds have peeling paint, uprooted flooring, poor drainage and most recently, needles.
Beautiful park and fantastic jazz music festival
Historic and Modernized for a fresh eccentric experience. Make sure you take advantage of events there. Theres even a pool
I have watched the Skyscraper Bike Race at this park, it was a good place to relax and watch bicycle matches here! There were musical performances nearby too.
I enjoyed the Summer Stage with Ralph Daniels
Nice! Plenty events going on yearly in the park. Summer Stage Events Harlem Week Great short rails for skaters and rollerbladers.
Spent a tranquil afternoon on Thanksgiving Day and it warm my heart watching a woman feed the homeless all on her own!
Nice park to walk and chill 😎 Bath room very clean during the day 👌 808 Thank you Carmelo Ortiz 😘
They want to barricade all grass in sight. What’s the point of having a park if there is only 2 patches of grass one can enjoy? Ridiculous really. Instead of blocking off the grass space they should worry more about the consumption of drugs happening and the poor stray kittens wondering around or something that can actually benefit the people who frequent the park.
Marcus Garvey Park is a lovely oasis in the middle of Harlem. Unfortunately, the rats were a bit much for me.
I had a great time !! There about 7 DJS AND THE MUSIC WAS VERY GOOD.
Best gems uptown... Between the Fire tower, the Ampitheater, drum circles and every walk of life, its just a great park!!!
The park has gotten better over the years. Fenced area for children to play. Dogs have fun in the park as well with a dedicated gated area to frolic with other dogs. Marked area with grill pits and picnic like tables for families to set up and have a great time. There is also a pool and stage where summer concerts are held. It your want to shoot some hoops, this park has you covered. Park benches can be found throughout mostly in shaded areas. On a daily basis, you will see joggers or yoga enthusiasts on the manicured grass. I love this park and I hope you find time to visit soon.
Nice but a little run down on some paths and needs cleaning. Otherwise nice facilities.
Really lush and lively space with plenty of paths to just have a nice stroll in. Theres a good distribution of elevations so theres always an interesting view of the park and its surrounding area along with a good amount of community spaces and facilities. Its well kept by the staff and has a nice amount of space for small to medium size events
Its a good park to exercise, walk and with a good play area for kids. I feel its missing more lighting at night. I like how people gather around it during summer, neighbors play domino, dance, and listen to music some eays. It makes it safer to walk around.
Just passing through so the stopped here for the kids to let off steam. Decent little play area with plenty of green space.
Very much enjoyed my walk through this park. Great view from the top.
I took my dog to the park to check out the dog run. Unfortunately, it was closed. We had a good walk though. I enjoyed the plants. The pavement could use some repairs, but overall the park is a great space for sports, arts, chillin ...
Very good place to be for the Summer. Fun fact, the summer of soul, back in 1969 took place there. Very fun place for all ages, very dog friendly, and available rest rooms. This park also has a pool, and a fitness recreation center. So if youre in East Harlem, take the time and visit this nice park...
Park is overall decent because of Marcus meets Malcolm organization. The park is cleaner, the towel at the top of the park as been revitalized. They have events in the park and pool is finally open for the season. They have lots to do inside the recreational center too. However, some of the staff is a bit off. Be careful around the perimeter near 124th Street and inside the park over there. It is a lot happening. 👀 And if you want to cut through do it on the Madison side because the 5th Avenue side has a lot of areas blocked off.
I love this historic park. Its not huge but they have great events there, many of them are free in the summer. This park is kept pretty clean. Its small but impressive. Theres a drum circle area near the location where the fifth avenue ley line runs through the park. In summer and fall you can see people on the rocks making the beast with two backs reminiscent of the days when the old Turkish bathhouse was open.
Nice historical park for sights and relaxation.
One of the most INjoyable times Eyeve had in Marcus Garvey Park was seeing founding Baba of The Last Poets last week. This week it was the jazz songstress & She band.it was a live party at the klosing of She performance.
The volunteers and city employees try their best to keep the park clean and fix broken items.
Its quite big. Nice park for cookouts, family walks, workout space, peaceful spaces. This park is equipped with a dog park, pool, a stage for performances, baseball field, a kids playground, basketball court, grills with picnic tables. Its nice if you pick a good spot. Also open at night.
This park is really interesting! I rarely come to this park when my friends and I so community outdoor picnic gatherings on warmer days. As for the playgrounds for the kids, however, they all need necessary updating and renovations, especially the showers and water fountains. The goes for all other amenities in the entire park. Other than that, I would enjoy visiting this park, especially whenever there are any positive events, hangouts and gatherings, such as group picnic gatherings.
Was a great experience went to see a play and was really wonderful.
I stumbled upon a public art piece that was fascinating,
The park is nice but once you try to go to the hill. There is too much garbage and a lot of junkies. Needs to be cleaned.
Great park in the center of Harlem. Walk down memory lane. Nice icicles.
Love this amazing beautiful stunning takes my breath away sort of place.
Love this little park. I used to walk through here to go to work everyday. Love their amphitheater!
Great park complete with stage offering a wide variety of entertainment.
Love going to the annual Classical Theater of Harlem performances at the parks amphitheater.
Very cozy place to comeRead and meditate.
Very nice landscape design. Quite surprising to find it at New York :)
Shes fab ! Happy Memorial Day!
Marcus Garvey Park, located in Harlem, is a historic and culturally significant public space. The green park, originally known as Mount Morris Park, was renamed in honor of the Jamaican political leader Marcus Garvey in 1973, reflecting its ties to Harlem’s African American heritage.
My first time there, people were very friendly and helpful.
Amazing performance! They showed the meaning of show must go on!
This park is nice they have playgrounds for kids and basketball court and is beautiful for a nice walk around during the day. I only go to take my dog to the dog park they have there but I will no longer be taking her anymore. On two separate occasions my dog has gotten bit and is now scared to even walk by the park, people dont clean up after their dog and dont watch them. My dog has caught pink eye everytime shes been in the dog park. The park has rules and its not being followed.
Great local park. Pathways winding up the rocky hill with views, surrounded by community; the little league playing street basketball, the old timers playing chess, families playing in the playground, and concert in the amphitheaterThere is still the classic NYC in corners; discarded alcohol containers and degenerate people.Much of the problem is the fact that this park is split by two police precincts, neither willing to overlap their border, because, New York...
Best park in Harlem.Did you hear the drums
While parks downtown are beautifully maintained, Marcus Garvey is in need of some TLC, between broken water fountains, flooded sidewalks, trucks driving around corners creating massive mud pits and homeless people in the amphitheater stage, it needs some love..... We love our park, it just needs some love from the parks department.
The Amphitheater is great. I enjoyed the performances .
The lighting system in the park is completely backwards. In the daytime, almost every lamp post is turned on. And at night, even after 9pm, it is pitch black on the west side of the park. The only lights you see turned on are the ones by the pool entrance and by the restrooms. Please fix this this ASAP.
Nice park. 2 dog runs, several playground structures, basketball fields, and so on.
Love that they are utilizing the park for mature adult activity on a Friday after work.
This is a nice place that is used for my walk, but lately, there are too many crimes around. There are often problems there with homelessness and / or other activities. The park offers a lot of different things to do. From the jungle gym, the picnic area, the big lawn with the statue, and the amphitheater is also used for a variety of things. From concert to commencement and many more activities in between
My pup grew up here! Most of the dog owners are friendly and attentive to their dogs. ❤️
The park is actually beautiful. Beautiful dogs, beautiful women, approachable people.
Very nice historic outdoor place.
Park would be more picturesque if more properly cared for.
This park has gotten better a little with each passing year.
The dog run needs serious attention. A replacement of the gate and removal of the old mulch
A beautiful park in the neighborhood. Could use additional supper cleaning up trash, broken glass, and used needles.
Real talk they need to do a much better job at keeping this park drug free and cleaner. They need more policing 24/7. This park had so much potential. I guess because its in a poor minority community not much emphasis or attention is paid to this place. Sad.
Catching up on reviews. I was here for the first time on Friday, 07-29-22. I was good being able to sit still for a minute and enjoy people watching and seeing children actually play outside. I always attract animals; not sure if I was surprised to see a squirrel in NYC or if it was just typical and hilarious. There is a squirrel and a few birds that frequent one of my bedroom windows at home. People were playing music. There were plenty of pigeons out looking for food, just enough to let you know you were at a city park. Would definitely visit again.
Nice park. Some open green space as well as a large area for my kids to ride their scooters or bikes. The only issue is that everything is old. The basketball courts, the kids playgrounds are are old and breaking. Paint chipping etc. A renovation would definitely make this park one of the finest in the area.
Just a little bit more maintenance around the park. If they can have officers patrolling, then some resources can also go towards cleaning up some of the areas within the park.
Love the summer concert series. Free theater as well. Charlie Parker Festival coming August 23rd.
I am here building a stage for a show. Beautiful quiet park.
As a foreigner , I would not recommend visiting this place to visit. Not the best neighborhood and the place is poorly maintained. NY parks should not be promoting such a place to visit for cherry blossoms.
This park has really gone down hill. There are often needles (likely from drug use) in the grass and along the pathways. Id say I see at least one needle every other time I walk this park. So be very careful with your children and pets if roaming this park. In addition, it is usually littered with trash, particularly on the weekends and Mondays. There are no public restrooms available. This means that we often see men in the park choose a tree and urinate on the tree. There are also MANY homeless camped out on the upper rocky area and also in the new outdoor theater. I really wish Harlem had a safe, clean, family friendly park for residents with young children. Its really sad the state this park is in!
Very nice park beautiful.
A nice park, I have walked all over it during the day, friendly people. The staff work hard on keeping it clean. They are renovating parts of it, I cant wait until they finish. They have a nice dog park as well. This isnt a small park, its a mini Central park, with fields, amphitheater, and pool.
Beautiful event by Parents Supporting Parents and Moms United for Black Lives.
I enjoyed my time here at the playground with my 4 yearly old son. It was plenty of room to play. We played on two different grounds. One was for the beginner walkers as it was a lot of ramps with plenty of room to walk around. The other play set had a shareable bridge, monkey bars, a tall swirl metal slide, multiple climbing options, and a another metal slide. What I didnt like was the fact people brought their pets despite the signage No Pets. One dog was literally chained to the fence inside the playground while the another was chained to a bench outside of the playground. too close to comfort for me.
Mid summers night dream.. was really well done and free
I love coming here for all the family fun and activities.
Peaceful and beautiful environment to relax, fish or have a family moment together
Very nice park. We saw people doing African dance and there are a couple of nice playgrounds. There are steps or inclines to walk that will give you a little bit of a workout. There were a couple of boxes to donate books as well as take books.
Really nice park theres a basketball park, swimming pool, Stage for dance practice or performances. Theres even chess/checker tables, theres a workout area and baseball field. I recommend this park during the DAYTIME. Theres a staircase that goes up along the inner portion of some huge rocks. Swings, jungle gyms. Theres allot that you can do in Marcus Garvey Park. Have fun, be safe.
A beautiful place to enjoy with family during the day and evening hours. Late night adventures looms in them hills. Rate 4 stars entertainment at all levels
I just found out about this park and the bell tower that was recently opened. Spectacular views! Great for photos. I can imagine what it will be like in the spring and summer.. The park offers so much for the local community and has such history. Even walking around the park you learn the history of the surrounding buildings and how many were purchased for practically nothing but now they house major churches and huge new apartments and expensive condos. Truly the neighborhood is changing.. And I believe for the better!
The park is pretty decent. There is not too much going on, but there is a nice mix of available options for people to choose from. There is an amphitheater which hosts an amazing array of shows when the weather us right. There is also a nice baseball field.
It is a small but picturesque park. It has been effected by increase homeless people making it their home but for the most part is safe to enjoy both by adults and children.
Due to ongoing construction of the Amphitheater the Jazz performance was held outdoors in the entrance plaza of the RECREATION Center. The venue was very good and the seating was adequate for the small number of participants.
Has a pool, play for men to workout, playground, and space to walk the park and take a stroll. Also an area that has a stage, so shows do happen in this park. You can also grill there as well and have parties there
Great park for familys and individuals alike. Multiple children play areas, Chess Tables, Swimming Pool, Dog Park, Amphitheater with great free Concerts in the summer. Lots of grass space. Sometime features local art work and sculptures.
I love outdoor theater. There was a food vendor here and I was able to get food from Watkins Health Food store before the show. The Shakespeare performers were fabulous. Spothero gave me his information about parking near here. The outdoor lot near by was a construction site.
The ambiance, the scenery, is very welcoming and peaceful in certain areas. I literally lost track of time! All should visit this park.
Very nice park in the heart of Harlem where east meets west. Playgrounds and amphitheater. Pool.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit!I love Jazz, and I have taken in two awesome FREE jazz concerts here this summer, on two consecutive Fridays. The park is gorgeous, and in the heart of Harlem, and the layout is just beautiful! If you like African drumming do yourself a favor and come to this park on Sunday afternoons, and you will be transported to the Motherland!!!
While this is a great park and full of history and activity, the city has neglected it and it shows. There are loose steps, overrun garbage cans, broken bottles and trash all over the steps leading to and from the fire tower. There is also a lot of shady activity at the top of those stairs. That being said the pool is large and newly painted, and the amphitheater is ready to see some action. I will continue to visit the park on my daily walk rotation and use caution when I walk the stairs.
It’s a great park!! They did a great job restoration and keeping up with it!! So much cleaner than few years ago!! Love the plants during the spring. Pool is close this year bec of covid. They painted the Outside. I hope they ll renovate inside too. I have no idea maybe they are doing it now!
One of the best places to catch the NYC marathon in Harlem, before the runners reach Central Park.
Huge, beautiful park. It has a dog run, several playgrounds, bbq grills and even gym equipment
There have been a lot of renovations to the park, in an attempt to make it more friendly to tourists. Its a good place to walk or jog. Very picturesque when you go to the top structure of the hill.
Shout out to the park rangers for coming to me and helping me when I got into an accident on my bike next to the park. Didnt even know they were in the area but they patched my finger and controlled the bleed until I got to the er. They also took my bike in since I couldnt bring it with me. That was nice of then since they didnt have to do it. The park itself is clean but there are some homeless folks there. Which isnt surprising.
Its an oasis in the middle of Harlem. There is some open space for exercise, corcerts, playground for children, tables for board games and lunch or picnic. Plus you have the historic fire tower.. A nice place to just sit and relax.
The park is beautiful, walk thru it everyday. Had my daughter party in the park twice and love that there space for the kids to run and play. Only negative is they need more bathrooms available for people to use.
It was a great day! I was there for the annual drum celebration in the amphitheatre. Lots of drummers, dancing and children playing and having fun.
I had a very nice time there at a Birthday Barbecue. They also had a DJ
A beautiful Park to visit . Winter time and summertime. Off of 125th Street and 5th Avenue.
I love this place. It could use a little bit of maintenance here and there, but its got everything you need in a tight space. Baseball field, outdoor theater, kids jungle gym, swimming pool (open only in the summer), basketball courts, and running trail. I mean this place is like the central park of Harlem, but it has seen its better years.
Truly amazing experience in a great amplified neighborhood with great family connections, awesome plays right in the park while the pure air around and how the sports in the area with best of church enlightenment while this memorial area has reminded me of my United Family Tree. Thank you for the parks that are preserved!
It is a good. Place to come and see my friends and have a good time with the family in the park this is the gator home
The park is kept nice and clean by the ground crewThere is an Olympic size public pool were all ar welcome to swim or just cool down. There is a recreation center and a Newly renovated Amphitheater . basketball courts , a wonderful baseball field and areas were the kids can safely play .
I head to Marcus Garvey Park for the events at the Pelham Fritz Center. As a member, I am able to partake Zumba, Line Dancing, Aerobics, and Zen. I can use the machines for muscle build if I choose. For seniors, the annual fee is $25. I love the classes! The facilities are clean and the staff are friendly.
Enjoyed Shakespeare in the Park!!!Had Great seats
Great neighborhood park. Huge, clean and relatively uncrowded pool, two playgrounds, a little free library for kids and another for adults. Lots of free performances in the ampitheater every summer, including dance, music and theater. Best event is the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, which brings some of the best jazz artists in the world to Harlem for two days of free performances.
Great historical neighborhood park located in the heart of Harlem. Recently restored fire watch tower sits a top one of the highest parts of the city providing great views of the surrounding area. The park also has a band shell, bbq pits, chess tables and an Olympic size swimming pool, among other free amenities offered to visitors.
Has several nice playground areas for kids and an excellent pool to swim in, during the summer! Theres more to explore here than you may be able to tell from looking at a map. Parts of the park, however, (especially the elevated areas) are sketchy and poorly maintained.Update 2020: adding one star because they (NYC Parks Dept) are cleaning up and restoring some areas of the park. The park still serves as a safe place for many New Yorkers in the area to enjoy nature.... As long as you dont mind a little bit of sketch #newyorkstateofmind
Lovely park in Harlem. Terrific theater for shows and live screen opera.
One of my favorite parks in NYC in the ❤️ of Harlem! Dog park, an huge look out mountain, basketball courts, workout area, swings, drum circle, water fountains works BBQ areas clean and kept maintained, bookshare boxes, baseball fields, you can go jogging, pool, I think there is a gym? Ohh there is Richard Rodgers Amphitheater. I love this park man!!!!
A decent place to escape some of the natural chaos of the surrounding city.
I enjoy myself. It was as usual epic 🥳
Its a beautiful park in a great location. I love it too because of the benches and table areas. It has an amphitheater for special shows and events. Never used the pool but they do have one. Only thing I dislike is that on Saturdays as a child african drummers would come and beat the drums to honor the Ancestors. But gentrification got rid of that Special Traditional Saturday Event. Sad
Its a beautiful area to have youre kids playing at. The 2 separate playgrounds have locking doors. They have a huge pool with lockers, showers ECT, and its ALWAYS CLEAN!!! The only thing you have to watch out for are the stragglers, homeless drunks and (POSSIBLE Pedophiles)....So like anywhere else be careful
Great Park a lot of open space for activities, benches for relaxing, eating, or just enjoying the sights. Has a recreation center with lots of activities for example Zumba, Art, Music, Pool table, it also has a gym. Good people to socialize with as well😊.
Very nice small parm very enjoyable for the kids have a great playground for them also you get a good sense of the foliage changing color in New York City at this time of year. Recommend this place 85% enjoy your visit enjoy the scenery enjoy the color of the trees in the leaves turning
Multiple playgrounds, dog park ,amphitheater. pool in the summer. Plenty of elevated rock areas. Bbq available spots . Friendly atmosphere big open lawns chess tables and community created workout area. The park is also home to several artist sculptures throughout the park. Police presence is around the clock for safety.
Lovely and quiet on the outskirts, the interior is occupied by locals to the street area.
Great park with another stuff to do. Is also assistance in the form of the public in the police looking together to keep the park C for everyone . When you get a chance check out the park its a great place to have a good time without spending tons of money.
This park has a ton of potential, with its location, beautiful brownstone surroundings, amphitheater and decent public pool. However, its playgrounds need major renovations and there is rampant drug activity throughout the park.
Park has amptheater area/outdoor pool, Three playground areas, one basketball court. Walking paths picnic area.
Nice Park, pool 😀
Always a wonderful time being outdoors in nature. Especially when my favorite house music DJs🌟🎧🌟 are playing in the Amphitheatre!
Nice place to start visiting Harlem from 125th street station
Nice. Not as drug infested as it used to be. Much safer and cleaner. Still has room for more improvements. Check it out. Especially the summer program. Some very good shows coming up. Check the NUC Parks & Recreation website.
Has a pool and basketball courts with a outside theatre 🎭
Native to Harlem. Has seen the evolution of this park. Also known as Mt Morris park. There has been significant restoration and maintenance of the park in the last five years or so. There is a plethora of events and activities for the public to enjoy, especially in the summer season. The amphitheater hosts great performances ranging from music, dance, and theater. The public pool had long been available for the community. There are ongoing renovation projects currently in progress at the park.
Marcus Garvey Park was a great time today! It’s so spacious with many spots to sit, chat, play with your kids, and two of the main attractions are the huge pool facility and beautiful outdoor proscenium auditorium theatre stage in which I walked in on professional dancers performing for Human Rights!!
Its really busy during the day with lots of families and kids from a nearby school, but in the evening, its a good place to walk with your music playing. Its huge and you dont have to do a full lap to feel like you did something...at least I dont. 😎
I love it there. I walked almost the entire park. Great seeing the painted benches.
This park is ideally up-and-coming park and has been or has gone un noticed for a very long time. The staff of the park have been working very diligently to clean up this prestigious park commemorating Marcus Garvey and his contribution to New York City and more specifically Harlem during the civil rights movement Coming from a West Indian background it shocked me to see that there was bread fruit AKA pana on the floor Residents as well as Other patrons have the ability to showcase showcase their talent as there is a stage located at the park that the park there is also a pool pool during summer months You will also find sometimes African drummers is in drummers and dancers combined combine performing and inviting children to June 2 play please be very mindful As there is good and bad everywhere that the parks close at approximately 9 PM So be very careful traveling at night
Visited the park with my son, we climbed to the top of the hill or mound.. and then he played with some really wonderful local kids at the playground for over an hour. We had a great time.
Great for the family or wit a friend. Now why cant we get our 12 Feet deep pool open again?! No one sneaking in the park at night no more!!! Give us our diving board back!!!
So i was there for the 50th anniversary of hip hop... There were big piles feces by the bleaches. What was not understood was that there were many of the parks department staff . So why wasnt it cleaned
Went to see Shakespeares Twelfth Night. It was great. Totally entertaining. The actors performances were flawless. I would recommend to anyone. Go before its gone
Great park amazing landscaping.
Drum circle on sunny Saturdays in the summer. Bring a drum and join the jam!!There is also a swimming pool which is open only in the summer. The amphitheater is first class and has really interesting shows in the summertime. This park is a blessing. This was my first park experience as a child growing up in Harlem. The recreational center has various activities for adults and seniors. The park deserves all the resources it can get!!
My BFF and I were shopping at Marshalls on125th and Lenox then we picked up lunch at Wholefoods. It turned out that you can no longer eat at Wholefoods so I googled parks nearby and Marcus Garvey Park was literally less than five minutes walk from where we were.It wasnt crowded, just a few stragglers. We were able to get a bench in a nice shady area but after a whiff of breeze realized that we were either sitting on dried piss or it was under the bench because it stank so BAD!Now, we were almost halfway through our lunch so we just pretended the smell didnt exist and finished our lunch.I guess the homeless are EVERYWHERE in NYC! One of the reasons I have a love/hate relationship with the City. Will I visit there again? Absolutely!!! BUT Ill have to do the sniff test before settling down on a bench.
Watched Seize The King at the outdoor stage and it was amazing, such wonderful acting. The park itself is nice to walk around or to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while chatting.
A nice little park to take a stroll during the day. Dont recommend to go alone during the late afternoon. There is some drug activity noticable during this hour. It was nice to see families with kids picnicking and playing.
I was there for Classical Theater of Harlems, Seize the King. Park was clean security was good it were public restrooms available and the performance was awesome.I have also attended dance classes there. And my grandson and my children played Harlem Little League baseball there.
Surprizingly clean for all the damage the area bring into it. Staff keeps up with the upkeep and does a great job. Pool is safe and lockers are monitored. Police regularly patrol. Overall i would visit on a recreational basis. My opinions are based on working at Marcus Garvey on temp basis.
Shakespeare in the park!Play: A Midsummer Nights DreamPerformance was phenomenal, the acting and singing was wonderful. Still going on till July 28. Reserve your spot, its FREE to attend.
Neighborhood park, I take granddaughters there all the time. It has a pool and an amphitheater that give diverse, cultural plays, poetry, dance and all kinds of music. 3 big playgrounds for toddlers and teens. Basketball games during the summer that fill the park and girls and picnic tables are near the court. Library is on the 124th street btwn 5th & Lenox Avenues & they provide little book house stands throughout the park. They have a dog run. Lots more that I cant remember. Visit the park as soon as you can.
I walk my dog here daily. Live the amphitheater and the pool
So sad that the city is allowing this beautiful park to be overrun by drug addicts and the like. The event I was in was wonderful but...we had A LOT of cleaning up to do, just to use the space!!NO GOOD NYC!! WE MUST DO BETTER AND GET THOSE FOLKS SOME HELP...STARTING WITH PLACES TO BE OTHER THAN THE PARK!!
On amenities alone the park rates a 4. Theres a Kids Playground, Baseball diamond, performing arts amphitheatre with Swimming Pool and Mens/Ladies bathrooms.Theres also the neighborhoods ongoing homeless issues that tend to spill over into the park. Thats takes half a Star away. But this thing wont let you give half stars. So I put it here. 3 and 1/2 Stars.
The park today was quite enjoyable. The weather was fair. I was able to walk to the park and do some push-ups on a park bench.
Great for strolls with your dog. Weekends theres a group of people that play music and dance. Very good for birthdays and parties.
This place I used to come to as a kid. Went to Cooper JHS right across the street. Used to rang the Bell in the Tower. Going back to the late 60s-70s. Good O Days
The swim pool is awesome the kids love it and the park is very well maintained considering the volume of visitors that come. Have been taking my kids here for years great place to save a buck and tire the kids out.
The Park is a quiet place to chillax in the Cities ape called NYC.Plus its a hidden Harlem jewel, pick up something to drink or eat on 125th & find a bench near the music,or Not read a book or WHATEVER. ITS PRIMO♡☆
I love to go there and relax plus the squirrels keep me company
Nice park, live music sometimes in the outdoor Amphitheater , rec center, police patrolled huge with a trail, benches of course a lot of homeless and some hippies I believe there’s an indoor pool also.
It was great clean people were very friendly. Very quiet I even felt safe. It also had police presence that day. Enjoy!
Live jazz on the stage sometimes in the summer. Nice spray/splash park for the kids, off leash area for dogs, art installations around the park, and paved foot path up to the old fire watch area.
Ive been coming to mt morris as i call it since my 12 . I am 49 now & always come thru to reminisce. Go to da pool or watch a concert . Verry clean too.
Grass is not great, holes all over the ground. Not great lighting at later evenings.
Featured Jazz BassistThe great Buster Williams
The park is beautiful and historic but it needs better care from the community. The pool experience was fantastic this past summer. Staff was friendly and pool was always clean.
