What a wonderful experience puppy Layla had with this team! Very accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Stephanie and Tiffany were so helpful and able to manage a lot of different issues with the pets and their owners at the front desk. Dr. Maya answered all of my questions and put my mind at ease. 10/10 experience for this first time dog mama

This veterinary clinic is so great! All of the staff here, from the receptionists to the vet techs, and vets are so kind and helpful. They remember both you and your fur babies by name, call to check in after sick appointments, sit down with you to explain a full cost breakdown, and will make sure you’re well taken care of even when they’re closed. I can’t recommend enough. Huge thank you to Tiffany, Dr. Manning, Dr. Gitter-Fox, Dr. Freda, and all of the lovely vet techs for taking such great care of Mercury!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The care my rescue dog has received over the years by all of the vets is outstanding. East Side has become our family. All of the staff from reception, vet techs and doggy day care staff are caring and exceptional. I would ignore any negative reviews since everyone I know has only had positive experiences here. Were are so fortunate to have East Side!

We boarded our diabetic cat, Clancy, over the holidays. We have boarded him a number of times in the past. They take very good care of him- he gets insulin shots twice a day. They have even emailed us pictures of him. The staff who tend to him are very professional, kind, trustworthy and caring. I don’t know how they do it, but he always comes back looking better than when we dropped him off! The Reception staff visit him during the day. They are all great and we cannot say enough good things about them. Thank you!! Joan and Randy

I cannot share enough how amazing this place is. And I stress Place because it is everyone there. From the front desk to the technicians to the Vet, they are always so kind and aware.Today was a turbulent day for me and Piglet. She had to have some teeth removed. Not only did they have a professional, empathetic conversation with me, they also gave Piglet special care. They identified that she feels comfortable while being carried. AND THATS WHAT THEY DID! - They treated her more than a patient, but as my best friend.5 stars isnt enough. If you want someone to love your special one as much as you, East Side Animal Hospital is that place!

I was using this practice due to a recommendation from a friend when I got my rescue pup. I left a year ago and what a difference that has made. I found the front desk staff friendly but the practice is not where I would want to care for my loved one. Though Dr. Freda was knowledgable I didnt feel like she likes animals or her job. My dog had a lot of stomach needs and was diagnosed with IBD by another vet at the same practice who retired. Dr. Freda seemed cold when I would go in for visits. In further research putting a dog on chicken script food is the opposite of what the research tells you since so many dogs have chicken allergies. I was never told to try anything else but this script food and I didnt know better. My encounters withDr. Manning were not much better after picking my dog up for a heart exam and he seemed to be too busy to care about anyone or any animal as well. I would not recommend this practice and wish my experience was different.

I had a horrible experience at this office with my pet. They ignored my request to not have a specific procedure performed on her, billed me for it, and then forced me to pay. Their fees are outrageous and the customer service is appalling. They dont even look at the pet chart before walking in. You and your pet are just a number. Dr. Shelby Freda is very unprofessional like and so is the rest of the team. I wish I had read some other reviews before going there.

The phone operator in March 4th 2024 was super unprofessional and impatient with my questions when I was simply having question about vet record. She repeatly tried to cut me off and being aggressive when I was trying to ask question. Worst attitude I have encountered from front desk/ operator. She doesnt want to be helpful at all just want everyone to shutup and enjoy her day.

Dr. Freda is literally a lifesaver -- about 8 months ago my dog got diagnosed with heartworm, which is something you never want to hear. Dr. Freda was, hands down, the most involved, thorough, and caring vet Ive ever come across -- she ran me through the procedure, gave me many updates, and even emailed me updated plans about how to continue on with treating our little guy at home frequently. I just felt like she really cared about Alfie and comforted my boyfriend and me through this bizarre disease. She is the best :)

*sigh*I have been looking for a GREAT vet for years now.The best one IMO is Greenwich Village Animal Hospital. The doctors and staff were the same so they knew us. Always greeting us with kindness, knowing our history. They even remember our friends pet and asked how he was. However I have since moved from downtown...This is the kind of relationship I have been searching for. Unfortunately the vets Ive encountered have had a quick turnaround so we have never seen the same staff twice (both doctors and assistants, for the last 5 years).I found East Side Animal Hospital and thought, oh, this is a neighborhood vet, not corporate, so maybe itll be neighborhoody.. I had high, high hopes...Well if you could judge a book by its cover..Not very attractive on the outside but I thought, well NY rents are high.It wasnt any better inside. Very cramped. Full garbage bags in the hallway, giving little room to walk by. The rooms are small and the bathroom is tiny and not very pleasant. Ive been with Bond Vet which is beautiful and clean but like I said, I was looking for a place where we would know the same doctors and staff. The vet at ESAH was just that. A vet. Not much personality and didnt seem to love my dog... I guess I have been spoiled w GVAH and their excitement whenever they see us, ask how were doing, give my dog lots of pets and hugs etc...With the atmosphere and personalities aside, this is my issue.I was told that I would be given prices PREVIOUS to treatment to see if I would want it our not. We all know this drill, the one where vets say all the things that are needed. And yes, with unlimited funds, I would want all the wellness exams but sadly, I live in Manhattan and my funds arent so. I said, I only want the exam and the medication (for what I came in for). For whatever reason, the proceeded to do more than needed (IMO) and charged me more than double. AGAIN, I was NEVER informed of these prices before they did it. I only knew when I got the bill. Which they proceeded to tell me, they needed to do these tests to give out the medication... But isnt that indicated on the history I gave them from my other vet? Didnt I JUST get bloodwork that I showed them?!My point is, I was told I would be informed BEFORE treatment of costs and then I could decide... This didnt happen. I was stuck with a bill more than double what I was expecting. And maybe if I was happy with the service and/or location, I would give them another chance... But sadly, this is not the case...Still on my search for a neighborhood vet...

Wish I could give them zero stars. The staff are extremely rude. They dont care for the animals they only care for pre-payments. I never had an issue with not paying. Every NYC vet I go to, you always pay after the visit, period. They now changed their policy and are requesting for something as simple as a technician visit (for bloodwork or giving vaccine) now they want the pet to be seen by a Provider so they can charge more. The person I spoke to lied to me. I called less than a month ago requesting for blood work to see if my cat has Toxoplasmosis since I am currently expecting. However, I ended up with COVID-19 and couldnt take the cat. The front desk person argued with me and told me my cat had Toxoplasmosis because all cats have it which my OBGYN said that not all cats have it. I asked her if he was tested and she said no. Then she asked the vet and the vet said they can do blood work on him. Well today, I called to schedule an appointment for my dog (has an abscess on his paw) and the person I spoke to only cared about my credit card information (this was a first). Then she told me its going to be $250 and if you dont cancel today, we are keeping the $250. What a scam??? I had already explained the issue I had previously. Told her that the cats doesnt need to be seen by a vet for a vaccine or bloodwork. At that point, I had enough and told her to cancel the appointment and that I will look for another vet. With no hesitation, she deactivated my account and sent me my pets medical record. This place is a joke. They need to hire people with at least a High School education if they want to live up to the standards of their location with the price they are charging. Completely ratchet and ghetto. For that, I rather go to the Bronx and save money. Only went there because I live 8 blocks away.

The vet tech completed a very thorough profile on our Frenchie and asked me all sorts of questions. Dr. Manning was great. Amazing bedside manners, patient and very thorough. I asked more questions than I probably should have but got reasonable answers that made sense to me. Eddie did not get anything that wasnt necessary, quite the contrary. Words cannot express my gratitude to the wonderful people at east side animal hospital. My 13 year old pug had a seizure and rolled off of my bed falling to the floor. I ran over there hysterical carrying my pug. I cannot thank Mike, Amanda and Alex (the amazing vet techs) who came sprinting out and immediately brought her back to be treated, while also trying to calm me down! This is not my primary vet and I was beyond overwhelmed, I don’t think I would have survived those few moments without the care and compassion of Kat and Britiny who kept me calm and assured me everything would be okay! Dr. Shelby Freda was above and beyond! Once they knew my dog was stable she immediately came out to discuss a course of action. Her recommendations where thorough but not at all excessive, we even called my primary vet to loop them in. Before I knew it, Lexi was back in my arms and ready to go home! I cannot thank everyone enough! They made a truly heinous and horrific experience as pleasant as could be. You can really see how much they value and care about their patients! Thank you thank you!

We still took our puppy there because we just purchased our puppy and they were recommended as being close to our location. We went and all was well until the other day. We have spent a very decent amount of money in this establishment like anyone else that utilizes this Vet office and I was treated very rudely and unprofessionally by a staff member. I have a long haired Scottish Fold Kitten with a tremendous amount of floof. Even with regular brushing, I wasnt able to keep him from getting matted, and it became a compounding problem because he felt like he couldnt groom himself and so he gave up which only made it worse. I knew I needed to get him shaved but he doesnt like being manipulated against his will for extended periods (who does, frankly?). My regular vet here in Bay Ridge no longer does sedated grooming. I brought him here to have him get a sedated lion cut, and they did an amazing job. Their price was very fair especially considering their location, and everyone was extremely attentive and polite. I will definitely be bringing him back here any time he needs a shave, or for anything my local vet cant handle!

To Whomever wrote the response,I went to the office not happy about the way I was handled in a call, but none the less walked in and spoke to everyone politely as I have since my puppy has been a patient there and vice versa.I left there being told have a good night by the gentleman that I spoke to and the receptionist.I was NERVER escorted out of the office nor was there any verbal argument at the office that would require for law enforcement assistance. Your office response to my complaint was not addressed with any merit which doesn’t mirror my departure from your office after speaking to one of the head employees addressing this matter.First, I cannot be fired from your office because I’m not an employee at your office. As the puppy owner and your establishment, we mutually agreed that my puppy will no longer be treated at your office, which Is why I went to take my puppy information out of your database. There are cameras in your office that will clearly indicate that there weren’t any physical or verbal aggressive conversations between myself or any of your employees at your office.Furthermore, someone should monitor all the negative reviews regarding this office because there are plenty of other people that have encountered the same experiences that I have.I am more then sure that the owner for Eastside Animal Hospital could not have written the response that I am responding to, it is sad that staff that can not respond correctly and are out right not speaking the truth.I hope the owners do see this and make the necessary staff changes.

My dog has been treating with Dr. Manning for 13 years since she was a puppy. I moved to Westchester a year ago and thought it would be better to have a local vet. That was a mistake. The local vet said the wart over the eyelid was too large to completely remove at the base, so it would return anyway. He also said her teeth were fine when I repeatedly asked him to check it out.I returned to Dr. Manning for a second opinion. Dr. Manning completely removed the huge wart over the eyelid and it looks great. He also noticed a lot of cysts in the mouth on one glance and removed some of them. Dr. Manning also removed about 20 other warts that are healing well. My baby is doing great after one week. I will gladly drive to the city for her future care at Eastside Animal Hospital.

Being extremely honest, I cannot recommend anyone to take their animal to this hospital. The front desk is kind, but that is about it. The vet is so condescending. Near the end of the exam, I felt like he was just trying to sell me product after product. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of information that he threw at me that when I asked for a summary of the medication he was trying to sell me, he acted like I was demented.Sir, I am not a vet, and I was respectful about asking; please show me and other owners some respect. I thought this place had good reviews, but if you check Yelp, the reviews are similar to mine (condescending vet, marketing, etc). Please skip this place and go to other clinics. Their vaccines are also OVERPRICED.

I just dont understand East Side Animal Hospital. My older dog hasnt been feeling too well lately, so my mom called East Side to see if they can fit her in. There was no effort on the part of East Side to even take my dog in (much less fit her into the busy schedule), so they suggested going to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) on 2nd Ave. My mom and I, then, took our dog to VEG; VEG did some blood work, gave my dog medicine, and sent the bloodwork info to East Side. But East Side never responds until my mom has to continuously call them to ask why my older dog hasnt been doing too well. Eventually, by some miracle of God, East Side responds and says they can finally fit my older dog in; however, they will have to do more bloodwork.I cannot help but feel that East Side is just looking for a way to make a quick $700 off of us. It is almost as if East Side views this situation as purely transactional; and as such, they dont seem to care that my older dog over the last week or so hasnt been feeling too well. I hate to think the worst of a business (I really do, and I tend to give the benefit of the doubt), but it seems like there is no care in the world that our dog here has been experiencing lethargy and hasnt been eating her favorite snacks for the past week. All of this is to say: I am very disappointed with East Side. I understand that the family dog is old; I do. But I just dont want to see my dog like this: lethargic and not wanting to eat. I grew up with this dog from middle school to now in graduate school. And it feels as if East Side doesnt get that there is an emotional element attached when caring for pets, especially at the latter stages of the pets life.

I sent an email to have East Side Animal Hospital to stop but I guess they are just very insensitive.Secondly, my dog was fine until he had his teeth cleaned, one week later he started to vomit and was soon diagnosed with an abdominal mass. This was after getting his physical clearance for teeth cleaning and anesthesia the week before. His physical was less than exemplary: I had to tell the vet that she never even checked his ears.Thirdly, they push their food, give antibiotics at a drop of a hat. They are so awful, I went back to Long Island when my dog was vomiting because they refused to see him after he vomited 6 times in a row with blood.Since it was a Sunday they thought they could just blame it on the heat outside ..my apartment is air conditioned!Protect your dog and never go there, if you do you have been warned!

In the past at other facilities in Manhattan I have had unpleasant experiences with veterinarians, particularly very new ones. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED HERE. In addition, a few years ago several people found a canary on the sidewalk, perilously close to a crowded street fair. We were able to get the canary into a box and then take him to East Side (on a Sat. afternoon). They took the canary in, without charge, and later told me that one of the vets adopted him and took him home. We are fortunate to have Dr. Manning etal in the neighborhood.

Recently Roo re-injured his leg and again this office was the best. The owner and Vet Dr. Manning saw Roo and followed up with a call after our visit. You don’t see that kind of treatment much these days. Dr. White who is still kinda with the clinic gave me a call to discuss what happened with Roo and he spent a good 30 mins or more talking about Roo’a care as he was the first to help his injury. And I want to shout out Christina , Tiffany and Adam who helped me get all the medical records , getting Roo in fast to see his vet and also following up on Roo. East Side Animal Hospital is my go to! Dr. Freda has been my vet for years and I absolutely adore her. She is very knowledgeable and loves my animals as much as I do! When there is something I can’t figure out I immediately make an appointment with her and she knows exactly what’s going on. I had a really hard time finding a good vet that seemed like they cared and were intelligent. I’ve also been to so many Vet Clinics over the years and I’ve never had such a good experience. All of my friends and family now go to see Dr. Freda as well. I HIGHLY recommend!

I only came here because it is 2 blocks from my new apartment. The bill was more than double that of my last vet ($450 for a checkup lol). I brought Rio in for a regular check up and they did not even realize that he had fleas. I had to go back less than a week later for a re check and got stuck with another bill after being told it was complimentary because they missed the fleas.Would not go back or recommend others to

Went to see the vet for a check up prior to boarding. Dr. White was super professional, amazing to talk to, very understanding to my dog and her situation. Usually I’m anxious going anywhere with my pup because she’s a bit fear reactive but, he was confident in handling her, administered her shots and everything else was easy. The whole experience really put me and my pup at ease. Glad to have found this place first almost immediately after moving nearby.

I have the utmost confidence in the veterinarians and staff of East Side Animal Hospital. I have been taking my dog here for the past few years, and have unfortunately had to make many visits in the last few months as hes had some serious health issues at the age of 13. Dr. Freda is amazing. They referred us to nearby specialists which only made me more confident that what were doing is right. They also offer very affordable medical boarding which has made my life easier as I travel from time to time. I would highly recommend making Dr. Freda or Dr. Manning your pets primary care vet.

Though I have heard countless bad things about East Side Animal Hospital from people at the dog park, in dog groups, and in my building, I have not heard bad things about Dr. Manning, so I made the switch. For one wellness visit I spent a total of $823 (this included: bloodwork, fecal test, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, exam visit, and 2 prescriptions). I was not told the prices of anything until it was time to pay and at that point I could not do anything about it.In addition to the astronomical cost of a single well visit for a healthy 2 yr dog, the vet techs were HORRIFIC. When my dog was brought to the back he was greeted with a muzzle. My dog does not have a human bite history and has never been to this vet before, so I am not sure why he was greeted with a tight, cloth muzzle. I explained to the vet tech that my dog does not need a muzzle and will not react well to one if it is forces on him. The vet tech seemed to understand (or so I thought). I sat on the floor - because there was no chair - of a cramped room with my dog on my lap as we waited for Dr. Manning to meet with us. The vet tech suggested I wait in the front for my dog while the vet examined my dog, but I explained I was there with my dog for an annual wellness exam and planned to meet and speak with the vet. Dr. Manning then came in and was pleasant. The vet tech then took my dog back for blood work and I heard nothing about how that went, but when my dog came back out he was very skittish. The following day I brought my dog back for a heartworm shot. Dr. Manning told me it would take 5 minutes and could be done by a vet tech. I assumed I’d be able to sit with my dog for his shot like I’ve done at my old vet in the past and at Vetco, but I was not. The vet tech took my dog to the back. After 20 minutes I asked about my dog and tried to peak through the window of the back room door and could not see him. I asked the lady at the front desk if I could check on him, but she said she would check. When she returned she said he was having a “rough time” so two vetch techs were holding him down while he was muzzled and they were trying to give him his shot. I explained to the lady that there must be some big misunderstanding because less than 24 hours ago I told the vet tech that he does NOT do well with being muzzled. He also had two vaccines 24 hours prior at Vetco and sat on my lap while one single vet teach was able to give him two shots back to back. So I’m not sure how this situation went so south. I asked the front desk lady if my dog could sit on my lap for the shots and she said “no because you are not allowed in the back.” I asked if he could get the shot in an exam room and was told “no because we do not want him to associate you with shots.” I explained this was not acceptable and was told I’d need to speak with Dr. Manning in person at my next visit even though he was currently in the office while this was all happening. After 40 minutes my dog was brought back to me frantically panting, whimpering, and charging out the door. The front desk lady jokingly commented “he’s never coming back here again.”It has now been 3 days since we were last in the office and my dog has thrown up 4 times. I emailed the office and was told Dr. Manning won’t be able to call me back for another 24+ hours. Dr. Freda called me and said to stop the medicine my dog was put on, but I couldn’t return it to them after spending $100 on it. She couldn’t tell me what was in the heartworm injection he was given and why he would be having a reaction. I asked why I was not given any paperwork on the labs done and medicine and shot received and she didn’t answer. I then asked why I wasn’t told any prices before hand and she said “usually my clients ask beforehand for a price estimate and if they don’t ask we assume that they’re okay with it.” I also address that my dog was traumatized during his heartworm shot and she completely ignored all my concerns.I will be taking taking my dog for a second opinion elsewhere and not returning here EVER

Ive been taking my dogs to East Side Animal Hospital for more than 10 years and I trust the vets there implicitly. They know my dog, Lucy, and the rest of my family so well. Its a real neighborhood place. Lucy has a lot of health issues and the vets at East Side Animal are really on top of her medications and the myriad of issues that come with caring for a dog like mine. They consult with specialists and often each other to come up with the best course of action for Lucy. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
