So, I considered whether I should write a review of Hotel Bark Avenue. Bark Avenue has lots of good reviews, but alas, this will not be one of them.I would normally add what the owner had to say, but he has yet to call me back…so I am on my own. Owner has since blocked me from his Instagram account. My dog (22 lb / 15 month old female Beagle) did a one day “play/day care” session. We filled in the paperwork and paid before we came. When we arrived, the windows were all blacked out and we could not see in. We were told that it stopped the dogs from getting agitated if they saw their owners. There is also no “live” camera feed – so what goes on is a mystery and we must rely on the staff posting on their Instagram which, by definition is self curated.Fortunately, we went on Instagram often throughout the day, and what we say was maybe 8 dogs ganging up on our dog whose tail was tucked between her legs as she tried to escape. What we found fascinating was that this had to have been observed by the staff, since they filmed and posted it. We called the owner and asked about this. He said he would review the tapes. He did. He edited the tapes and added other shots of our dog having fun and deleted the most damaging ones.We came to pick the dog up. The place was still crowded according to the owner. When we came to get her, we waited about 10 minutes for her to be brought out (remember, we cant go in or see in). The staff person explained that, in fact, our dog was treated in a rough manner and apologized. After about 5 minutes of chatting with us on pick up, she lamented that she needed to get back inside as no one else was there to watch the dogs. So, there are a bunch of dogs, left unattended each time a dog is picked up.To recap: Can’t see inside, no live camera, short staffed resulting in dogs unattended, our dog gets kinda beat up, video records are altered. This is the upper east side of New York. Do yourself a favor and find a more transparent vendor who appreciates that dogs are family members and people care how they are treated.
Best daycare I could ask for. My pup has serious anxiety issues due to early age trauma and can’t be caged or by herself. While working on her training and medication, Hotel Bark Avenue helps when we can’t be with her. She’s never unattended and I can tell how much she loves Kevin. Even with her anxiety and lack of socialization skills, she has plenty of fun moments that I can see through instagram stories. They give me great feedback on her behavior and always have a positive and welcoming attitude.
Can’t imagine a better daycare! Gianni loves to see the workers and gets excited to go see his friends. 😍❤️ they also don’t cage the dogs during boarding, and have free access to everything.
I wanted to share an experience I had at a dog boarding school at Hotel Bark Ave (143 E 103rd St), so no one else experienced this disrespectful behavior. I dropped my dog off for overnight dogboarding from 8/29 to 9/2 and paid prior to dropping him off. After picking up my dog on 9/2, I received another invoice to pay an additional $55. I was confused at the amount, so I reached out to clarify why I received this invoice. Kevin Tamayo, the general manager, replied to my email, explaining that Hotel Barks policy was charging me this amount even though I had already paid $370 for a dogs overnight stay. I informed them that my original invoice, for which I had already paid, did not include the additional $55. Kevin decided to respond to me by saying that refusal to pay for the service seems in poor taste. Rude right? Then he proceeded to threaten me, saying he would call the other dog boarding facilities nearby because I refused to pay for a service that was never charged to me on the original invoice I already paid for. Great customer service, right? I wholeheartedly endorse small businesses, yet its important to treat customers fairly instead of intimidating them when they express frustration over unclear explanations. Lastly, we went and paid the $55 to be done with it, but when the payment was sent, he went ahead and called other facilities to block me from getting dog service. Again, so nasty, so rude.Ultimately, I do not recommend anyone seek dog service for this facility. In order to grow a business, you have to provide superb customer service, which makes customers return. Kevin Tamayo failed to do so.
I was so excited to take my puppy F. to this daycare. The five star reviews and backyard completely won me over. Unfortunately, during F’s trial, he broke his leg. I was told it was because he jumped off of something and landed wrong. Since this happened within the first ten minutes of his trial, I firmly believe he should have been watched closer as the daycare learned F’s temperament and abilities (F has been to daycare before and had no issues!).With that being said, they did work with their insurance and are covering 2500 dollars of the surgery. However, that is less than 50% of his total care, not to mention the time it takes to care for a puppy on restricted activity for over a month.I completely understand that accidents happen, but I do think it’s important to know that this can happen to your pup if you take them here. I’d recommend taking your dog to a slightly more boring (but much safer) daycare instead. 6000 dollars and a two month recovery is quite the serious accident.
Love this place! They don’t crate the dogs ever, which is amazing. And they have a backyard so the dogs can actually hang out in the sun outdoors when it’s nice out, they post videos in their Instagram of the dogs playing with the hose water. You get updates on your dog on Instagram stories (although it’s only intermittent — they don’t show all the dogs every day, so you don’t know if you’ll get video of your dog that day). Also, we tried some other dog daycares in the Upper East Side and in addition to crating the dogs, they didn’t have the excellent drop off arrangement that Hotel Bark Ave has. Because Hotel Bark Ave has a backyard, they can afford to have no windows facing out onto the street. That means that they come out to take your dog and you can stand there and wait until your dog is inside, your dog doesn’t see you leaving — perfect for dogs that can get a bit anxious about being dropped off at daycare. At some other daycares we tried, their only windows were onto the sidewalk, so the dogs could see out the window into the street as you walk away down the sidewalk, which is super stressful for the dog! Plus also the dogs seemed to get riled up by people walking past. So Hotel Bark Ave is way better because your dog doesn’t see you walking away and there’s less barking at the people on the sidewalk.
My dog has been coming to Hotel Bark Ave the past two years, from when he was a little puppy. It’s hard to put into words all of the reasons I love this place. Without a doubt, Hotel Bark Ave is the greatest business in Manhattan. To name just a few:* Every staff member is friendly and caring. They know all the dogs by name, and show up excited to play with the dogs every day. It’s awesome to see how much positive energy they bring, and lends assurance that my dog is well cared for.* HBA is one of the only day care facilities that promotes activities and that has a back yard. I love seeing the pack outside: running around, chasing balls, getting sprayed with water. The dogs play hard, rain or shine. There’s no other dog care facility that provides this in the neighborhood.* HBA daycare hours are generous, covering early morning to late evening. Pick up / drop off is a breeze. Communication is fast. Payment is easy.* Overnight care is a blessing for when we go on trips where we can’t bring a dog. My dog knows all the staff and the staff knows all the dogs. He is well fed and well cared for. The pup loves sleepovers.* The price is generous, especially so with package deals. They are as competitive as any care in UES.* Location is great, across the street from a 6 stop.* I love that the staff upload Instagram stories of the dogs playing throughout the day. I get to catch up on the highlights.* My dog is exhausted for a full 24h after day care. It’s great to see him getting hard core exercise and socialization, and contributes to my dog’s relaxed personality.* Finally, this cannot be stated enough, Kevin the owner, is a BOSS. He kills it. All round the guy is a top notch business owner. He holds a high bar for the staff he hires. He works hard — in there almost every day playing with the dogs. And he has the unique skill of being simultaneously kind to everyone around him and direct to customers and neighbors.I can’t imagine how hard it is to run this kind of a business in New York. HBA is one of the greats.
So happy we found Bark Ave! I was nervous about leaving our pup for the first time and they put my mind completely at ease. The staff is so friendly and compassionate. I knew Shandy would be in good hands and saw proof of that when we picked her up...I don’t think she wanted to leave! Probably because they have a big backyard for the dogs to play in...and I actually get to see her play in it because they post adorable Instagram stories throughout the day! And their services don’t break the bank - very reasonably priced. Thank you so much for keeping our puppy safe and happy while we’re away!
After an exhausting search for daycare for my Lola, I was very happy to find Hotel Bark Ave.Their kindness and professionalism was appreciated.Their facilities are clean, and love the layout. Areas to run and lounge inside and out are an added bonus.Lola left happy and was hesitant to leave her new friends. It’s a huge plus that they you call upon arrival and they come out to greet your fur baby. I was amazed there was no barking upon Lola’s entering.Less outside stimulation let’s the dogs focus on the other dogs and their safe environment.Big bonus!!!! They don’t crate them, they are allowed to roam free.Looking forward to using them again.
I couldnt recommend Hotel Bark Ave more! My husband and I have been using them for our corgi, Walter, since he was a puppy. He goes there for overnight boarding when we are out of town, and they have always taken such good care of him! He even stayed with them for two weeks while we were gone for our wedding/honeymoon, and I couldnt have felt more comfortable and at ease knowing he was in such good care. The staff are all wonderful, attentive, and very quick at responding via e-mail, and their facilities (indoor/outdoor) for the dogs are very nice and clean. I love that they let the dogs roam around, and even sleep on their couch at night! They even keep you up to date on whats happening with the dogs via Instagram which is so cute and an added bonus. Walter loves his time at Hotel Bark Ave, and we feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful day care/boarding facility for him!
This has been my first experience using a day care for my pup, but I’ve been blown away by the helpful staff, and the great environment they provide to their dogs. My little guy, Carter, use to be very shy and timid around other dogs, and now it seems like you can’t tear him away from his friends. Normally I don’t write reviews, but highly recommend this place to all my friends as I’ve had a very pleasant experience. Also very competitively priced compared to some other day cares that I inquired about. Keep up the good work!
My pug has been going to Hotel Bark Avenue for 8 months and has done both daycare and overnights. She loves it there and I feel so comfortable leaving her with the staff. They are open to food/medicine asks too! She has the best time and its so fun watching their day over instagram. Big Fan!
Hotel Bark Ave is a great place to take care for your dog! My dog received the most professional And caring attention while my wife and I were away for an extended weekend. The staff is kind and friendly to their customers and you can tell them love being around dogs! I highly recommend this place for anyone that lives in NYC to take advantage of the service they provide if you ever want to get away.
My puppy Sunny absolutely LOVES Hotel Bark Ave. Kevin and team are so lovely and caring, I trust them wholeheartedly with my doggo! Also love that there’s a backyard.
My dog loves going here and I love checking in on the Instagram while he is there. Prices are reasonable and its right off the 6. Hes also way more tired after playing here then anywhere else Ive taken him. And he loves the outdoor area.
Hotel Bark ave is the best! They take great care of my pooches. I know they are in good hands whenever I need someone to watch my fur children. Their backyard is big and spacious and there is always an abundance of insta stories so I can see my pups play with other dogs! I can’t recommend them enough :)
Our dog loves coming to Hotel Bark Ave! Jane is only seven months old, but its been a great experience socializing her there, and Kevin and Chris are a wealth of knowledge and always happy to take a few minutes on pick-up to let us know how she did that day. Couldnt be happier to have this place at our disposal.
I highly recommend Hotel Bark Avenue for daycare and for boarding. We just picked up our puppy Floyd after a two week stay at HBA. We were able to keep tabs on his activity every day by watching the multiple IG videos that are posted all day long. Kevin and Chris are fantastic, very responsive and are very knowledgeable about doggie behavior. The backyard is a huge plus and on hot days they setup kiddie pools for the dogs to cool off in. So nice to be able to have peace of mind when leaving your furbaby for the day or overnight.
I think my puppy loves Hotel Bark Ave! Such a cute place, they post stories on Insta all day so you can see your baby in action. They are super nice and have a great backyard for the dogs to play in which is gold in NYC when you dont want your dog on the dirty streets. You can definitely be at ease and trust that theyre in good hands.
HIDDEN GEM IN THE CITY! I am so so happy to stumble across this place! Every time I pick my dogs up from here, I feel like I’m ruining my dogs day by taking them away from all their furry friends. I can’t emphasize enough how great the staff is here, my dogs always get so excited when I drop them off, they have so much fun playing with the staff in the huge private yard they have in the back. I don’t know what their secret is here but my dogs always come back to me smelling like they’ve bathed in flowers and just being honest...that is no easy task. Truly so fortunate to have this place in my life, I always can leave my dogs behind knowing their safe and in good hands. As any dog parent wants, you just want your dogs to be happy when you’re not together and I can confidently say that is totally achieved here. I love this place, you guys really are the best!
Weve tried other places in the area and none of them compare to Hotel Bark Ave. The customer service is beyond amazing, and THEY HAVE A BACKYARD! My dog Walter always has the best time and loves running around and playing around with all of his friends.Covid has made things difficult with Walters socialization, but Hotel Bark Ave has been a blessing beyond measure. Give them a try, you wont regret it! (And they take the best photos!)
HOTEL BARK AVE is the best daycare in NYC hands down! Kevin is so wonderful, kind, and patient. It is a great group of friendly and playful dogs daily, and such an awesome outdoor/indoor space for them to play in. The frequent instagram stories during the day are so fun to watch while my dog is there at daycare and I always feel comfortable leaving her at HBA while I work for great socialization. The price is unbeatable for such a high quality of dog care! My dog and I are obsessed with HBA!
My dog absolutely loves Hotel Bark, so much so we have had to change our walks away from the entrance as she is always determined to go back inside. They care for your dogs like they are their own. They report back anything out of character for your dog or if they have seen anything that could indicate there is something wrong with them. The videos and pictures throughout the day on insta show just how happy the dogs are and are worth the cost of the day alone.Thank you hotel bark!
Being that this is my first review Im not really sure if this will get posted, but I guess Ill give it a shot anyways.Hotel Bark Ave is quite honestly the most amazing facility Ive ever used. Prior, I used one those those places for my cavapoo where everything was one color and looked like dungeon. Thankfully, Hotel Bark Ave is nothing like that. There are an abundance of sofas, a large backyard where the dogs run and play, a pool where my boy Jeremy gets to work on his swimming, and Kevin (the manager) is extremely responsive to phone calls and emails. I wish that I would have found this place years ago! Also, make sure to check them out on instagram (@hotelbarkave) as Im sure youll see how they do a great job coordinating all the pups for photos. It really warms my heart to see how Jeremy has come out of his shell and has made so many new friends.
HOTEL BARK AVE is AMAZING! Kevin and the team go above and beyond for all the pups, and they have a very large outdoor space where the dogs can play outside throughout the day!Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and so thankful to have found a space where Buster has a lot of friends to play with.
We’ve been taking our dog Skye here for over a year and she’s also stayed there when we travel. They’re absolutely amazing and we wouldn’t trust anyone else with Skye. She also absolutely loves going there and gets so excited when she knows we’re on the way to drop her off. Highly recommend to anyone for dog daycare or sitting!
This is the best doggie day care in town! My dog is beyond excited to go in and play everytime. He is always nice and tired from all the fun when I come to pick him up. The staff is also extremely helpful, caring, and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
Our dog loves going here. She gets to play with other dogs inside and outside all day, and she comes home tired out. They post videos throughout the day on Instagram, so you can always see what the pups are up to.
My coworker and I discovered this place yesterday, as we were doing business in the area. Although it was very dark inside, we decided to ring the bell, as we were looking for a new place to potentially board our 3 dogs. Afterwards, we heard dogs barking loudly. A few minutes later, someone answered the door. What happened next, left us both perplexed! That person quickly slammed the door after him, as if he didnt want us to look inside. We inquired about rates and tours, all conducting business OUTSIDE the establishment. He stated that tours are done by appointment only, AND AT NIGHT. WHAT????? As potential customers, I dont understand how you conduct business ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. As we were leaving, he BACKED into his door making sure the door was slightly ajar so that nothing could be seen. For us, that was a very strange encounter. Needless to say, were no longer interested.
Hotel Bark Avenue is heaven for dogs and Kevin is truly the dog whisperer. He cares so much for each and every dog. I am so happy I discovered the HBA!
Hotel Bark Ave took great care of my Luna. We will be back!
Easily the best doggy daycare in the city. Crate-less “Disneyland” for your dogs. Indoor and outdoors- Kevin and Chris are incredible with the pups- with videos posted to IG everyday and incredible photos (see attached) taken each stay, we couldn’t be happier! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BULK PACKAGE!
Amazing place to leave your fur baby when you need to traveled the world.. they took care of Brothers Dog ** Laika* for almost 2 weeks and when we pick up Laika she looks good and beautiful
My little prince had a wonderful time with his new pals. First time for my puppy and he was super excited. Great place and everyone was super helpful.
My dog loves this place. Staff is always very friendly and supportive.
This place is legit. My dog is more excited to go to the hotel than home. Good people.
A truly great place for daycare! Reasonable rates and attentive staff.
Exceptional care!
Totally trust my dog Theo with the best daycare for dogs in Manhattan in my opinion
Where do I start? My dog has always been a very social girl, she has a lot of energy and love which can be a handful sometimes. KEVIN really makes this place t h e best experience we’ve received with any pet hotel ever! Shes been to about 6 different daycares & we’ve found this one to be the best hands down. Kevin is the nicest person ever, he treats the dogs as if they were his own, very caring and understanding. I say this because there has been many times where we had no reservation for her and he accepted us last minute. I know when my dog likes a person and/or place but she loves this place so much. Theres always other dogs that seem to be frequent visitors as well. The dogs literally play all day, go to sleep whenever they finally wear out. They have a huge backyard for the pups to run around in as well as where they actually stay. The other dogs are also friendly & playful so you wouldnt have to worry about anything. Anyways as I said before Kevin is the primary caretaker, he has really made this place of business the most memorable and safe place so whenever she wants to go to daycare or needs boarding, this is the first place we think of!!! We love it seriously lol if we could give it 10 stars
Dog got denied because of his weight, 50-60lb. SMH!
Affordable & Responsible - Trust them with two of our little ones :-)
They have a backyard!!
Fantastic place, they take care of the dogs with a lot of love, this hotel is number one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🐶🐕🦮🐩🐕🦺🐾🦴
