Canine Styles West

Cute dog shop on the UWS. Never did grooming here but stopped in for a glance at the products. They have lots of different apparel and fun toys, but be prepared to pay $$$$$. Staff was ok—not friendly or welcoming. You’d expect someone to at least welcome you and ask if you need help with anything. Similar to other reviews—it may be that we don’t fit the clientele this boutique is catering to.

I cannot let the treatment I received by one of the owners of Canine Styles go unaddressed. I’ve been bringing my girl for grooming here for two years. After her last appointment, I called to tell the owner, Chad, that her face hair was left so long that it was still covering her eyes. I did this with the hope that I could bring her in for a trim. Instead, Chad told me that I have not been the kind of customer he wants to serve, and he proceeded to read through a list of complaints that his organization has created about me. He said that his records show that I have rescheduled and canceled appointments, brought my dog in matted, etc. He said that I should find somewhere else to have my dog groomed. I will, indeed, do that, but I will absolutely not accept such treatment silently. I’mguessing many of the Canine Styles customers will never experience this sort of treatment, because perhaps they are of a status that is more in line with what Canine Styles would like as their clientele.In response to your response you have ABSOLUTELY NOT adjusted any of Blue’s past haircuts as I have never asked for one. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE!

My buddy, Zac has won two championships from AKC at 1.5yo and groomed by China and has been going to Canine Styles for years... Zac is going on 12 years old and know as the most well groomed (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) in Manhattan! Zac has modeled since hes was one year old for Chanel/Polo and Cristin Dior and groomed by China. Zac has gotten over 500,000 hits on Facebook and over 200,000 likes on thedogist. He is known as the Mayor of W. 80th St., the most lovable likable dog on the Upper West Side.

I have been a loyal client of Canine Styles for 3 years, and up until recently, I have always been satisfied with the care provided for my dogs, Miel, Bentley and Louis. However, during our last visit, we encountered some serious concerns. Miel came back with matted fur, and our puppy Louis had a cut on his ear, which we were not informed about. Additionally, my husband did not feel welcomed during that visit, which was very disappointing.I sent an email to address these issues, but I have yet to receive a response. While I would love to continue bringing Miel, Bentley and Louis to Canine Styles, this experience has left me feeling uncertain about returning. I hope the team reaches out to discuss how we can restore the trust we’ve had for so long.

Words cannot express just how kind and compassionate the owners and staff at Canine Styles are. My 12-year-old senior dog suffered a medical emergency while getting groomed (I want to be clear that it was completely unrelated to the grooming experience, just horrible random timing for everyone involved). They went above and beyond for us. I truly cannot convey how thankful I am.They took complete control of the situation, calling our vet, getting us transportation there, riding with us so they could carry my almost 90 pound boy into the veterinary clinic for me, and even staying in the examination room with us while giving me tissues until it was clear Charlie was stable and the situation was under control. I just do not know what I would have done without them. I am forever grateful for the clear love and care they showed my sweet boy both that day and when they called to check in on his recovery later in the week.While I don’t think there are any baths in Charlie’s immediate future, I would trust them with my baby again 1,000 times over. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

They have a ton of very well made coats and sweaters. A woman and a guy helped us find the right size carrier for our puppy and couldn’t have been nicer or more patient.Support a local store and come here over the big box pet stores!

We’ve been looking for a good groomer in UWS and so happy we found Canine Styles! Sue did such a nice job with our bernedoodle, and clearly treated her with care because our dog was pulling to say bye to her on the way out. Thanks Sue!!

We visited there last Thursday, and they have charged me more than last visit(20%) and they said it is included deshedding fee (even before price deshedding was included). Btw when I came back to pick my dog, I realized they did not deshedding her at all as I still could see chunk of her hair falling from her legs, so i brought her back and told them They might forget deshedding, then they brought her back to the groomer. An hour later they called me and my dog is ready for pick up and saying”if you want deshedding please bring her earlier” lol well if they were not going to deshedding why did they charge deshedding fee at the first place?? AnywAy when I saw my dog again I was very shocked. Her thighs has hair loss that I could see her skin. I felt horrible that I brought my dog to there. I will never back to there.

Amazing grooming for our 13yo labradoodle!! He hasn’t looked this good in years. Super soft, well styled happy and fast. Thank you China!

Great coats! They are on the pricey side. I bought the horse blanket style coat for my bichon/mini poodle mix. The staff recommended a size 14. I think maybe he could really have used the 16 because the coat doesnt go to the base of his tail. Maybe he is just extra long. Its a gorgeous coat and he seems to like it. I might buy a light sweater to go underneath it because the rear end of it lifts up when he puts his head down to sniff.

A Mr. Dobbs review- very nice store to visit, nice selection of clothing. I was provided help right away when I entered with my hooman.Apparently hooman wasnt happy when I licked my shirt because it would get stuck on my tongue. When she explained the issue, the nice shop hooman found the perfect shirt. I ended up getting it in green. Its purrfect in keeping me from getting a green tongue when I lick myself. It also brings out my eyes. 👅😸👅The grooming hoomans also seem to be nice, although I dont think Ill be needing their services. I already keep things smooth and hair free most days.

The first time I went into this store my dog and I were completely ignored and when I asked for help we were treated poorly and as if we were an inconvenience. I couldn’t help but notice that the staff was catering to a certain type of person and dogs that were clearly more “designer” looking in a way (poodle/doodle looking dogs). I truly wish I were kidding as I know how ridiculous it sounds! I decided to give them a try again and the same thing happened so I scooped my dog up and walked out. I really don’t recommend going here, there are much better options nearby or even heading downtown to Dog & co. is well worth the trip if you are looking for amazing customer service and staff that will actually acknowledge you and your fur baby!

Incredibly Ruide. I brought my sheepadoodle in for grooming one week ago, spent $300. Haircut was cute but way too long and frankly looks like he didn’t get a cut one week later . I called and asked if they could trim it a bit more and was reprimanded for not calling right away . I am the customer, I spent $300 . I simply asked if they could fix it and trim a bit more . Incredibly rude .I will never ever go back.

Highly recommend for grooming! They were very accommodating of my senior Pom Benny. Benny was bathed and trimmed and looked like a stuffed animal when I picked him up. Thank you sooo much for taking care of my sweet boy!

My dog has never looked and felt better since he started to get groomed by Sue. Andy the manager is really great!

Today my mom took our dog Mr Oreo to get groomed today. Knowing the reputation of Canine Styles West and the $160 price point we felt comfortable he would be treated well.We picked up Mr Oreo and we immediately noticed that his paw was gushing blood and worse off his face was blood covered.Concerned we spoke with the manager and advised him of the situation. He then consulted the woman who took care of Mr Oreo. Horrified we were advised that they clipped his toe too close. Concerned as to how or why a well established place would make such a mistake he informed us that it was too dark and as a result the nail as cut too short.Why would Canine Styles West put our beloved dog in harms way knowing there was not sufficient light to accomplish such an easy task. Even more so the managers lack of empathy and how irrevent tone was totally unacceptable.I would caution all that Canine Styles West is more concerned with the numbers and making money over the safety and welfare of our beloved pet.Its in our experience that price does not always equate to quality.

This little shop is a little too snooty for its own good and prices are pretty crazy (then again, if you must have a Yorker sized cashmere sweater, youre probably willing to pay for it). Ive bought two horse blanket style coats for my beloved dog for those super cold days and theyve been great. The no returns policy is a little excessive but theyll usually give store credit.Havent had grooming done here but everyone comes out looking great when Im there!

New to UWS with our family Border Terrier. Initial visit, almost 2 years ago, was grooming. Excellent job! I have had great experience in the shop with purchases, and advice from Lynn and Martin. Lynn and Martin truly care about your pet, and you. They will spend the time to truly help you with needs of your pet. I am a very happy customer, as is our loving Border Terrier.

I also had problems with the lady who seems to be mentioned in every negative review of this store. I bought a raincoat for my dog for $80. Before paying I mentioned that the coat was for a dachshund, and since they have a weird body, I asked if I could bring the coat back if it didnt fit. My native language is not English, so by asking that I was obviously meaning if I could return the item. They said yes. However, the next day, when I went to return the item because it didnt fit, they said that they could only give me store credit. I found the situation to be very annoying because I had asked before paying if I could bring the item back. They should have warned me at that moment that they could not give me a refund if it didn´t fit. While I was trying several coats on my dog (which did not fit) a lady showed up. When I told her the situation she pointed to the wall and dismissively told me that I should have read the return policy before paying. She told me that they had said I could bring the coat back and that I could--but only for store credit. She also mockingly told me that if I have a dachshund I should expect doing alterations in all the apparel that I buy, and that I should learn how to sew and make the alterations. I just laughed. Paying $80 for a dog coat and having to make alterations myself is simply hilarious. Throughout our interaction she was disrespectful, not helpful and behaved as she was doing me a favor by talking to me. Maybe that was because I have an accent. At this point, my husband entered the conversation and we started discussing with this lady. She started correcting our English and told us to leave. I left the coat there and we left. The day after, the store called and asked for my credit card number to issue a refund. A week later, I still have not received it. Of the entire experience with Canine Styles, the worst was the humilliating treatment I received from this woman. I regret ever setting foot in this store. I don´t recommend anyone buying anything from there.

1. At the first appointment, nobody told me I would need vaccination records. Luckily I brought them, but this disorganization should have been my first clue.2. The groomer forgot to cut several nails.3. The groomer did not clean out the dogs ears, thus leaving her open to infection.4. The groomer did not shave the dogs private area, thus leaving her open to infection.5. The groomer cut a cyst on my dog and didnt tell anyone.6. The groomer did not follow my ONE instruction to shave the top of the dogs snout.7. When I called to complain, I was assured that the manager would call me the next day.8. Almost a month later, and still no phone call from the manager...This is the most expensive dog grooming I have ever gotten for my dog. She is 9 years old and has received approximately 75-90 groomings in her lifetime. This was by FAR the worst experience I have ever had. The groomer gave her a pretty haircut, but the shortcuts he took left her open to infection. Unknowing dog owners who are taking their dogs here on a regular basis are NOT GETTING A FULL GROOMING! They are getting a bath and a haircut. That is not the same thing.I almost never leave reviews, but this kind of business practice is dangerous for the dog, and people need to know about it.

Recently, I called the store for a general inquiry. Ann/Canine Style Specialist is one of the most dedicated associates that I have ever encountered. She is very helpful, kind and informed. I am unable to visit the store, but I look forward to speaking with her again, to discuss the shops selection, so that I can make recommendations to some of my friends with spoiled pets.

I brought my older cockapoo for a grooming about 6 weeks ago. When I picked him up, his left eye was bulging out very badly and was completely red. He couldnt see properly and I had to take him the the 24 hour animal clinic. They said to call the groomer n report it and ask if they used chemicals. They denied any wrong doing but admitted they had to restrain him to clip his hair and maybe thats when it happened. So 350 dollars doctor bill later, Ill never go back and dont recommend this groomer to anyone.

Great place to take your dog for grooming and to buy accessories for dogs. Small business but they get a lot of business. Always full when I go. The place looks clean and organized and the cuts that are done are great. A bit costly, expect to pay a bit more than a regular place would, but the grooming is well done and the staff is friendly.

Very entitled-upper-west-side place---my dog was still matted after the whole hair-cut package, and one side of his armpit didnt get any cut when we especially mentioned it when we dropped our puppy off. This means our communication with the receptionist was not delivered to the groomer. When I called back to tell them the situation, the receptionist got mad and put on such attitude with harsh tone. We will never go back because we are not sure if our puppy will get treated properly.

I get my dog groomed here regularly. A bit expensive but my pooch always looks great. The staff can be a bit snooty at times. Good selection of dog and cat toys and accessories, but again, pricey.

NEVER going back!A few days after grooming, my dog was diagnosed with a very serious staph skin infection. The vet believes that the water and/or the shampoo was contaminated with bacteria.

The store is very pricey and mostly seems to caters to mini, froo froo dogs (and not even all of them). I think the prices are crazy high for two reasons: The rent is astronomical (I cant imagine how many $300 doggy rain coats they need to sell before they start breaking even every month). Reason number two, they are trying to cater to an exclusive clientele. They think that if they dont charge a lot more than the products should cost, then people with too much money, wont burn their money there. This is the fault of our capitalist society who puts too much value on meaningless scraps of paper. A hammer has more intrinsic value than a $100 bill. Ill tell you something else, in the inevitable apocalypse, it is a much smarter purchase. But I digress. Assuming your on board with all of this, and you likely are if you are shopping there, a person still expects a reasonable amount of friendliness when being charged up the wazoo. The lady who works at this place is about as sneering and condescending a cashier as I have ever seen in a pet store. Excuse me, pet clothing store. We nearly walked out, due to her attitude. Instead we kept our eyes on the prize, and bought a fabulous, pink coat for our small Pitbull. Yes it was expensive, but at least it is high quality and water proof and has stood up again and again to my rough pup.

Nice place and owner is such a rockstar! We discovered that later on IG. He treated us son well!

China grooms our westie and scottie. They not only look great but they leave in a relaxed happy manner.Nice assortment of accessories as well.

My dog simply loves the treats, as I am now home sick with Covid and not able to shop I called the store and they were so gracious and so wonderful, they shipped my dogs favorite treats, they are such a great staff.

Got a cute wagwear bag for our new little pooch here. They were friendly.

Great groomers there. No long waits for your pooches. New location on 78th & Broadway is very convenient.

Ive been going to Canine Styles for a few years to get grooming for my little Pomeranian, and I highly recommend China as the groomer. My dog always gets top treatment and amazing cut from him, which has never beed rivaled by anyone else in the city. China has a great handle with dogs, and fantastic skills for grooming. My doggy always comes out happy and gets stopped on every street with compliments on his cut. Always friendly service and great prices. Highly recommended!

The number of times this place has confused Dogs, given the wrong leash, told me the wrong time for pickup, and general total lack of organization is astounding.
