Ive been to them ALL. And the Bark Shoppe is the best. Ive had my dog perfectly shaved by Bernadette when my pup was matted. I told her to keep my pups eyelashes long and she did!!! Ive also had her perfectly trimmed when she wasnt matted.

Loved the groomer my Nicko had today, she cut him exactly how I explained to her. Thank you Bernadette. Micah is very respectful, warm heart and I love his smile . Bring your pets to THE BARK SHOPPE you won’t regret it I promise you

Truthfully the last few groomers I have taken my pup to I haven’t loved the outcome so I was apprehensive of what to expect trying another groomer out. However The Bark Shoppe out did themselves!! Bernadette was AHMMMMAZINGGG. She was so kind to my puppy and it was clear she knew what she was doing. She groomed him in a way that kept his shape and kept him fluffy! The young woman at the front Kay was also so kind and helpful. As a first time client they were communicative and followed up with me and they sent my pup home with a gift a little grooming kit. I already booked my next appt!! Thanks Bernadette and the Bark Shoppe!! You guys were excellent!!

I’ve been coming here for over a year now and they always do an amazing job with my dog every single time. My dog has sensitive skin and every time we walk out of there she always ends up smelling good and her skin feels super soft. I recommend anyone with dogs to come to this place!

We’ve been using the Bark Shopper for years, and both we and our dog couldn’t be happier. They’re always attentive, quick, and ultra-communicative about pickup times. Marzipan honestly gets excited just to see the groomers because she knows how much attention and love she’s about to get. Would recommend!

I highly recommend the Bark Shoppe! I have been a customer with them for 5+ years and every time my little pup goes in for a haircut he comes back looking amazing and smelling great. My dog has been groomed by many of the groomers over the years and each one has listened to my instructions and provided a quality cut at a great price. In addition to grooming, the Bark Shoppe provides a multitude of additional services many of which I have taken advantage of over the years - I highly recommend the pup and fluff when in between groomings and the balancing barks tooth brushing :). Every amazing grooming is finished off with a cute bandana and a spray from one of their signature doggy body sprays - we love the sweet pea :) I have included a before and after from our last grooming as well as some great cuts from the past.

The Bark Shoppe has been my go to since move moved to Harlem almost 10 years ago. They are like family. Bernadette is a gem! She always gives me what I ask for. The entire staff is caring and knowledgeable.Highly highly recommended

We had an excellent experience with the Bark Shoppe grooming our 1 year old pup. We initially had a 2pm appointment but they called us around 10am and told us we could come in earlier if we wanted. We did so and the groomer Mimi quickly and professionally assessed our pup.We knew he was quite matted from being coned during a surgery so we were aware he might need to be shaven quite close. Mimi confirmed this but let us know the decision was ultimately up to us. We told her to do what she had to do because we just wanted to get his matting out.Mimi blazed through his grooming in roughly 2-3 hours (much quicker than previous grooming at other places), removing all his matting and keeping as much of his floof as possible. The Bark Shoppe provided timely progress updates and put my mind to rest as an anxious pup parent. When I went to retrieve my pup, he was perfectly happy with no nicks anywhere. Seems like he had a great time with Mimi.Thanks so much to everyone at the Bark Shoppe! 😄UPDATE (Oct 20, 2023): Ive continued taking Meelo to the Bark Shoppe for the past year. They have been nothing but wonderful in terms of ensuring Meelo always gets the perfect haircut, that he is always comfortable, and that Im always updated on how hes doing. I love taking my toy poodle to The Bark Shoppe to get groomed. I love the fact that it is a black owned business, it is in my neighborhood and the employees have great customer service. They are also very patient with Harlem (he can be a fighter at times). I totally recommend bringing your dog to The Bark Shoppe to get groomed, especially if youre a first time dog owner like myself. Your dog will be in good hands !

We love taking our standard black poodle here! She does not love a bath or a cut. She used to come back from the groomer a bit down and scared. Ever since we took her to bark shoppe, she always leaves SO happy. They really care and do phenomenal work. We will not take her anywhere else. I have been going here for years. I would like if the standard package came with teeth cleaning or nail trimming. For $85 it is only bath & cut. They do a good job but take a little long. The customer service is top tier and since they are familiar with my dog I will continue to take her here. There might be better services but they do a good job.

Amazing, amazing service! Like most owners, my dog is my baby and I’m always so nervous handing him over. But the Barke Shoppe handled Simon with such great care and groomed him so beautifully. Not to mention, the staff is so lovely & friendly :) We will definitely be back!

For almost two years, we have entrusted Melissa, and her incredible team at The Bark Shoppe, with our Boston Terrier puppy. He has attended Day Care, spent many overnights, and had Pup & Fluff cleaning & grooming. Added bonus? They are happy to send great photos while your pup is in their care. We highly recommend TBS!

I recently took my puppy to this shop for the first time and was very impressed and overjoyed. My ACE needed grooming because his hair grew long, but I didnt want him to lose his curls as he is a mini goldendoodle. Customer service was wonderful, efficient, and knowledgeable. Thank you, Jeter. My groomer was Anderson, and he knew exactly what I wanted, and the results were great. I would recommend anyone with a dog to go to this establishment.

Love this place! Left for a year since I moved, but had to come back because no other groomer would cut my pups the same locally. They greeted me, made small talk, and were super friendly. All three groomers came and gently took my pups in the most professional manner, even my most anxious dog (who’s very fidgety) calmly went with the groomer. You can tell they know what they’re doing! Definitely worth the trip! It’s also worth noting that while I was there a customer was being extremely rude and the staff handled it so well. Props to The Bark Shoppe!

Seriously so happy I found this location! I needed a last-minute bath for my pup and they save the day. Not only did they fit me in last minute but they also did an amazing job making my dog feel comfortable. He immediately was friendly and playing with them. They create such a great environment for their customers and not to mention it smells amazing in there.

Had a wonderful experience at the Bark Shoppe. Took my 1 and a half year old mini poodle to them. They followed my request to the T. Thought I would pick my baby up half done cause she is very anxious and can get aggressive when getting groomed. Of course she made a liar out of me,they told me she did well and everything went great. They were even able to clean up her face which I thought was an impossible task. I will take her back when she needs a fresh cut.

I have enjoyed watching this Black-woman-owned business grow, flourish, and continue to provide quality service through the years. For those wondering, they are currently following all recommended COVID-19 protocols. You and your pet will be in good hands here! Ill leave this review in the order of the services Ive used:Grooming - They always do such a great job with Marley! They keep an active record of the blades used during previous visits. The groomer also provides consultation during drop-off. This attention to detail is VERY much appreciated.Boarding/Daycare - I was a nervous wreck the first time I considered boarding Marley. Melissa help eased my concerns by providing a walkthrough of the facility (which is clean and well-maintained). I love that they make a point to send pictures of your dog throughout the day. Marley enjoyed his stay so much, that I started dropping him off for daycare to socialize. Shoutout to Jeter who Marley always looks forward to spending time with!

Today was my baby girl’s 2nd birthday and the bark shoppe really made my girl feel like a princess! They were so great from booking the reservation over the phone to greeting us when we walked in. The team understood my anxiety about leaving her and sent me videos and pics throughout the experience. When I picked up Margeaux (birthday girl) she was happy and had bows in her hair. The team completed our experience with tidbits of their experience with her and follow up suggestions + continue care. My expectations were exceeded infinitely. Thank you!

I’m a fairly new dog mom and this is my first grooming location experience. The Bark Shoppe checks all the boxes, affordable, friendly, reliable and convenient! I personally have never had a bad experience with them or their team. With my inexperience, I love that they took their time with me and essentially provided me with the tools to properly care for my fur baby. My dog goes in looking a bit raggedy and always come out looking like a Superstar, haha. I also like that when they miss your call, they’ll give you a callback. Shoutout to J, he’s the best front of the house specialist. Always welcoming and in a great mood. Book with them you won’t regret!

They did an amazing job with my Snowy. She hadnt been groomed since October ( I had a personal groomer that came to my home, but she moved to Florida). I had been doing research but couldnt find a good reliable place. When I took Snowy to her drs check up, I asked if they knew of a good grooming place. They suggested the bark shoppe. I was worried cause shes only had one groomer. She was a little scared at first. When she was done with her glam day, she looked absolutely beautiful. Thank you to Lady T, I cant remember her name, you did an AMAZING JOB!!

I wish I could give Loona’s service 100 stars!! Seriously, this is hands down the BEST grooming service I have ever used. The owner Melissa and her staff are super knowledgeable and skilled. Don’t waste your money going any place else!! It’s worth every penny!!

They cut my dog’s ear during grooming and they refuse to admit the mistake. Not only they aren’t professional and untrained groomers, their work ethic and moral conduct are questionable. The pictures clearly show it’s a cut from the grooming. The left ear has a hole!We took our dog back to the shop right away and the guy took a look and said it wasn’t a cut. The owner Melissa, via email, denies that the wound happened at their shop and said it’s a pre-existing scab. This is an unacceptable attitude and I’m utterly disappointed. The shop literally gaslighted me. It’s inhuman to not take the responsibility of cutting my dog’s ear.Another customer, Alexandra Santos, had a similar experience, you can find her review here if you keep scrolling. Her dog was groomed and came home with its paw bleeding from unproperly cut nails, and the owner DENIED the accident, GASLIGHTED the customer and took no responsibility.This is absolutely inhuman and unprofessional. Please don’t take your dog there.

Honestly one of the best black owned businesses I’ve seen in the neighborhood. I’ve been coming here with my dog since he was a puppy and I’m always happy with the way he looks after coming here. I also love that they actually listen to the community and make improvements where needed. There is never any issue that you can’t share with the staff to better improve the experience. Truly a fan. Will always bring my dog here.

Im so disappointing to have to write a negative review for a business Ive frequented for several years, but they have left me no other option.In early June, I took my dog Lola in for grooming services and when I picked her up she was completely panicked. At first i figured that she was just anxious, but when I got home I realized that there was a trail of blood throughout my apartment and that my dog was bleeding quite badly from a nail that had clearly been cut too short. I immediately called The Bark Shoppe and spoke to Jeter who told me that Lolas nail had likely been cut too short but that it probably didnt open up until she started walking on the concrete. Jeter even followed up by sending me texts with links of how to care for a dogs nail when cut too short. The bleeding was so bad that she actually bled through her bandages TWICE.I went back in the next morning and ask to for a refund to compensate for all the damage to my property and Jeter told me to email the owner, Melissa, as she was not in that day. I did as suggested, and explained in the email, in detail what had happened. When Melissa responded she told me that since Lola was not seen bleeding at The Bark Shoppe they would not refund me because they have very strict policies regarding accidents. I responded asking for a copy of the policy because I couldnt find it on their website or in any of the emails we had exchanged over the several years Ive taken my dog here. Melissa replied that it was listed on the grooming registration form which I had signed. I asked for a copy and upon reviewing it, I found absolutely NO MENTION whatsoever of this policy. I even had others look at it and nowhere did it state what she was claiming. I reached out again to Melissa and to request a refund at which point she stopped responding.I am beyond disheartened by Melissas lack of professionalism. It is one thing to outright lie, but then to not respond at all was just a slap in the face. Especially since my family and I have been loyal costumers for years before this experience. (Even after previously being charged late drop-off or pick-up fees that were not fairly explained.)Melissa, take a good look at the pictures here of my dog and try to explain your policy once more.Needless to say - definitely dont take your pets here if youre thinking about it. And if youre currently a patron, I highly recommend seeking out another groomer (or at the very least dont let Dominique service your pets.

I took my dog(Milo) to the Bark Shoppe, as my usual groomer was out of the country until mid April. I decided to take a chance at a new groomer, since Milos hair was getting too long and affecting his ability to see well. I had my teenage son drop off Milo at 9/9:30 AM for his grooming appointment; my son informed me that there were concerns with matting and that there would be an additional charge of $65 for the additional time it would take the groomer to comb through the matting. I contacted the Bark Shoppe and requested to speak with the groomer for clarity on the additional fee, she explained that it would take her an additional 2-3 hrs (aside of the initial expected time frame of 2 hrs) to de-matt my dog and thats why the fee was being added to the initial charge of $95. However, we received a call for pickup within the initial time frame, which has me questioning what was the additional fee for?Additionally, I was never informed that my dog would be shaven down, which I wouldve appreciated the opportunity to make the decision on and wouldve definitely not consented to. To make matters worse, the shaved haircut was uneven and choppy and left my dog with his chest skin exposed, with an apparent error which cut through his hair exposing right down to the skin.From my previous experience with other groomers, when there have been matting, I was able to be provided with the styling results and look desired, and the groomer was able to remove the matted hairs and if there was ever an anticipation that I would be paying for an outcome other than the one I seek, a clear break down was always communicated to me before the groomer took the initiative to make the final decision on my pet.I am extremely disturbed by the service and poor communication received from the Bark Shoppe, as a first client I wouldve appreciated a better experience and not to be charged an additional fee for a service that I did not receive.

We brought our 5 month old Australian labradoodle here for his first haircut ever. They were SO KIND and SO PATIENT with him. He was bounding with energy and wouldn’t sit still, but Bernadette took so much time to make sure that our puppy got a great haircut, brushing, bath, nail cutting, and teeth brushing! Would ABSOLUTELY recommend! They really really invested and took care of our rambunctious little puppy.

I brought Archie in for a trim today and I’m delighted with the outcome. As a poodle mix, it’s been challenging to find a place that’ll give him a nice cut and blow out at an affordable price — even better that I get to support a local black business. The staff was also especially lovely and kind. We’ll definitely be back again!

Everyone I’ve interacted with at the Bark Shoppe has been incredibly kind! Their prices are affordable, they do an amazing job and my dog is never distressed or upset when I pick her up (as I have experienced at other places)

I’ve been here four or five times, and decided it’s not worth it anymore. In booking my appointments, I’ve given very specific instruction on how I prefer the cut. I show photo references, speak personally with the groomers, yet every time, it comes back a miss. She ends up looking like a grandma poodle dog every time.The biggest concern is that my dog has come back with infected and swollen toenails twice, and today, she came back with unclean eyes, one of which had a huge red sore.I’ll also add that while the groomers are very kind, the owner who works at the front desk has a terrible attitude. She also upcharged me as a “medium dog” because my small Havanese is one pound over the threshold. Customer service deserves a 0 rating.

Ive been reading a lot of negative reviews, so heres my experience if anyone is on the fence about it.1. Brush your dog before going. They charge extra for matted fur, and its just a big inconvenience for the groomer and your dog if they have to deal with it. Sometimes they shave the matting off and blend it in with the haircut, but if they decide it cant be fixed, itll be gone when you come back.2. If you have a poodle, or any dog that has discharge from their eyes, clean the eyes before you go. A lot of dogs hate having the area around their eyes touched, so its just easier for the groomer if you do it.3. Tell the groomer anything they need to know about you dog. Fussy about nails? Hates loud noises? Wont let you touch their leg? If your dog hates loud noises, this place is not for you. Nor is any other place, if they cant handle a hairdryer.Ive had pretty positive experiences. I dont always get my dog back exactly how I want, but Ive been more specific lately.

Went here a year ago and paid almost $300 for the VIP service. My dog returned still with mats in his fur. I called to complain and they said they would give me $50 off next visit. Went to book again and the said the $50 discount had “expired”. When I asked why they wouldn’t give me an answer. Take your business elsewhere.

They required payment upon booking which was not expected but when Michal explained why and the services I was very understanding. Staff was great. Groomer was very knowledgeable and attentive to me since I was a bit nervous to trying a new spot for my baby. Everything went great. Love my new home at The Bark Shoppe.

Today the bark shoppe lost a customer of 5 years. When I first started taking my dog here, I loved this place. They actually cared about customers and any concerns. Recently, a lot of changes have occurred including new management. Since February, I have been charged twice for deposits, then have to argue and send them screenshots I paid to get a refund. The following month it would happen again and no one remembered this happened to me previous month and this illegally charged me almost $300 after being EXPLICITLY told i no longer authorize any charges to my account. Darren the manager is disrespectful, rude, and incompetent. And kay the front desk staff is truly his incompetent minion. I know business grow, but back when Melissa was more hands on things ran so much better. It makes me sad I can no longer support this business but the treatment I receive is terrible and they are extremely unorganized. I will never be returning here and I caution anyone from coming here either.

Just had the best experience at the Bark Shoppe. I came in to ask a few questions and help my neighbor as she was looking for a good grooming studio for her fur baby. We both were so impressed with the service, the cleanliness of the studio and just how well they understood dogs. The receptionist was super nice and talked us through all the options, showed us a tour, and helped make sure we had everything needed for the 1st appointment. I would highly recommend The Bark Shoppe for any pet family.

Brittany is the best groomer. She is attentive to my pet who is a senior and makes it warm for him to go with her. I recommend the Bark Shoppe as I truly like that my pet does not stay a whole day to get groomed like in many other places. Even Jeter in the front is wonderful and sweet to all the pets that come. It makes me feel super comfortable to leave my pet.

If you’re looking for a place to board or groom your pet, The Bark Shoppe is the best place I’ve ever taken my dog to and I would highly recommend it. When I moved to NYC, I was so afraid that I wouldn’t find a place here that provided care as great as my old place. I love The Bark Shoppe so much now that even after moving away from Harlem, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else! I will walk the 25 blocks vs taking my dog down the street, they are that amazing! My dog is treated like family there and I have full trust in the staff to care for him. My dog has some leash anxiety and they are so great with him. I am always provided updates and photos while I’m away and that allows me to enjoy the time I have to be away from him with 0 worry. Jeter on staff is always super friendly and remembers details about his care that lets me know that they remember and truly care about him. The value of their services is also incredible for the area. I love that I can combine his grooming with boarding so that he’s fresh and clean when I pick him up. If you need some TLC for your pup or have to plan a trip away from them, I highly recommend The Bark Shoppe! You won’t regret booking services with them.

The Bark Shoppe will not get my business again. I had paid the money for my daughter’s dog to get a haircut. When we get there, they said we could not get the dog a haircut because she(Gin) did not have updated shots. I understand that but the problem is they refused to give me back my refund. Why because their policy says to keep my money until the dog get the updated shots. For instance they have already reserved the dog to be groomed in the future until her shots are updated. This spells CORPORATE to me.

Ive taken my 6 month old dog here 3 times now and each time has been a great experience. The staff is always super nice and groomers ask questions to make sure youre getting exactly what you want. They are fast and my dog always comes out looking great and like he had a good time. Happy to support such a great local business.

I’ve taken my pup here on 2 separate occasions because I believe in 2nd chances, never again. The first time they left my pup patchy & I had to return to get the cut done over by someone else. This time they gave my pup an uneven face, cutting the fur shorter on the left side & leaving it long on the right. I requested for them to fix it but after the 3rd return I decided to just take him home & even the cut myself. Not sure if this place is ran by beginners or what but a simple teddy bear cut should not require 3 returns to the back & an at home fix. I will NOT be returning, they charge professional prices for mediocre work. Charge your worth! Cause that ain’t it. - A very unhappy former customer

Have been taking my dogs to the Bark Shoppe for the past 2-3 years and did not really have an issue with them, in fact, thought they were relatively good. Lately, I have been very disappointed with their level of service. It’s become increasingly difficult to get an appointment- I waited 3 weeks for the most recent appointment, and they called to cancel the day of due to the groomer feeling unwell. I get it- things happen. We rescheduled, no problem. Apparently my dog’s vaccines had expired and they reached out to me via email and phone to update. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the messages - I saw the email but did not read it thoroughly, as I thought it was a simple confirmation. The day of the appointment they let me know we needed to update our vaccination records, of course I was annoyed having to move our appointment again, but I get it- we missed the notice. The part that has be completely turned off is that they refused to let this slide, and insisted on charging me a fee for having to reschedule. So it’s okay for them to cancel on me the day of but not okay for me to reschedule so I have ample time to get my dog’s vaccinations up to date? I even mentioned this to them and they refused to budge. I just think it’s extremely odd to not work with your customers. I don’t have a history of cancellations or no shows and have been a reliable and loyal customer for an extended period of time. I’m never using them again- I’m done.

I have been taking my dog here for a year and a half and have recently been having more issues which they unfortunately don’t tend to reconcile. At one of her first appointments there, they cut my dogs ear (my dog is really calm and small, so no idea how this happened) and I was really understanding about it, but they didn’t refund me anything or try to make it right in anyway. It resulted in an expensive vet appointment. I gave them another chance because they’re so conveniently located. I’ve tried to book specific groomers I trust online but who you get doesn’t seem to ever be in your control. And now this last time even when I had a groomer I’ve had before, mid appointment, they tried to call and text me to charge me additional to cut her nails - even though I’ve been booking the same service package with them since the beginning. They sent her back to me without her nails trimmed, saying all groomers were gone for the day. When I asked what happened, they told me their packages changed/ prices raised. Which i understand happens, but they could have explained this to me when I made the appointment or even when I dropped her off… the only thing they offered is if I paid more I could make another appointment the next day… just disappointed they don’t try to make things right when they go wrong

I’ve been taking my fur baby (Pomeranian) here every month since she was 6 months old and she just turned 2 in March 2020 and not ONCE have I been disappointed. My little one is super nervous and somehow they manage to take very good care of her each time! I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who wants CONSISTENT great service. And they’re Black owned which is a huge plus for me! Melissa the owner is super sweet and helpful. My little one will be coming here for years to come!

I always go to the Bark Shoppe when my dogs need to be groomed. The staff is fantastic and they truly care about my dogs. They give you feedback about how your dog did during the session and take note of any anxiety issues that may arise. Give them a shot, you wont regret it!!!

I have taken mine and my friend’s dog to The Bark Shoppe since 2020, but like many other reviews outline lately, 2022 has been a very negative experience and I won’t be returning.For one appointment, they insisted I send updated vaccination records when I had already provided them. A simple computer glitch, I thought, so I wrote it off.They also seemed to default to shaving the dogs, rather than doing a cut with scissors. On one occasion, they would ask what length I would want my double coated Australian Shepherd cut to pointing at a sampling of different shave lengths. I had to go out of my to make sure they knew and understood not to shave my double-coated dog because it would damage his coat. Though they followed this insistence, they pulled too hard on a tangle behind my dog’s ear and tore the skin, and I only found that after he got home. No explanation, no notice, and no apology.And yet I gave them another chance, because mats and tangles are difficult to deal with. Unfortunately this one broke the camel’s back (so to speak). They seem to have introduced a bunch of new agreements and waivers that include liability waivers. Given the prior experience with my dog, and the fact that I didn’t know about the waivers when booking the appointment (they’re not on the website, but provided as a Google Form through a QR code on checkin) I wanted to cancel the appointment, but they told me they would charge a cancellation fee to do so. They also then told me that despite booking the same Puff and Fluff I’ve booked before that a sanitary trim was no longer included and would cost extra. At that point, I made a scene and insisted on talking to a manager, but of course one wasn’t available. Though they did waive the charge for the sanitary, the only reason I didn’t cancel right then was that I booked with a debit card and wouldn’t have been able to dispute the cancellation fee. The bath they ended up doing was acceptable, but that doesnt erase this experience.What really has bothered me most is the inconsistency and lack of customer service. It’s fine if a policy has changed, but that needs to be communicated before someone prepays for a service. What’s more, the staff didnt seem to care about the poor communication when given feedback about what happened on any of these cases and I had to make a scene to get my dog the care and attention he deserved.I did want to at least bring these up to the owner, as I really value women owned and small businesses, but after staff told me after voicing concerns at my last appointment that she would be in touch, I never even got a call or email. And even if they did reach out at this point, there’s really nothing else to say except “You’ve lost my business.”

My experience with the bark shop is very much standard. Cant say a bad experience nor great. Very expensive for standard full groom which does not include clipping of the nails. But This is my go-to when my regular groomers are booked and I can make it to New Jersey. The groomers at the bark shop does seem caring which is a plus. FYI please walk with your dogs vaccination papers because they make copies but dont have them on file. This happened twice which I must say was kind of annoying.

The Bark Shoppe’s no-tears shampoo and body spray are great products. The no-tears shampoo has been great for bathing a puppy who is always on the go, even in the tub! It is easy on his eyes and also on his skin, and it smells amazing. The fragrance is not too strong, but it lasts really well. The body spray helps condition his coat and stretch out time between baths. The customer service was prompt, friendly, and professional, and shipping was fast. I would highly recommend this shop’s grooming products.

Great experience, the staff was very friendly and helped me set up an appointment quickly making sure I knew of the required documentation. When the day came to get my dog groomed, I simply walked in and and dropped him off. After a couple hours I got a call that he was ready to be picked up and my dog looked amazing. Im very happy that this place is so close to home!

My dog has been to so many groomers and the Bark Shoppe is the only place that takes GREAT CARE OF HIM grooming and health wise. My yorkie can be a handful but the Bark Shoppe treats him so well. Jeter also notifies me when his shots are going to expire and scheduling is ALSO convenient.

I’ve had my dog for over 17 years now & this by far is the best groomers we have came across. Customer service is A1, the prices are affordable, the staff is super friendly and Lola always leaves feeling like a million bucks. Another plus, their black owned!!!

Have taken my dog to 3 different pet grooming shops including The Bark Shoppe today for the fist time and i have to say although I didnt think negatively of the other shops I wasnt floored by the exceptional service either like I was with the bark shoppe. WOW! this place is a gem and it really makes you notice how lack luster these other places are, which is why I was not surprised to meet people there that traveled all the way from Brooklyn to get their dog groomed. I have been going here for years with no issues and have enjoyed the services of this company since it opened under a different name over 5 years ago. Now,2022 I will not be going back.This company has very Rigid and strict business practices out of now where, that Dont offer any flexibility or convenience to the clients. My dog needed a grooming which I was scheduled for and chargedFULL price prior to the grooming (which is NOT customary at most shops). At the appointment, I was told that my dog was not up to date with her records and that they would not be able to accommodate her. In the past, if this happen they would allow some flexibility, ie groom the dog and hold the owner accountable to having the records by the next visit. This is no longer the case, which I guess, FINE! I did my due diligence, got the shots (which took 3 weeks) all for the new scheduled appointment to be cancelled the morning of due to staff call outs.I am absolutely disgusted by the increase in operational practices that their clients expected to adhere to meanwhile, the company cant figure out a stronger system to manage their own internal practices. I have a TERRIBLE taste in my mouth and will be looking for another groomer in Harlem.

I would never bring my puppy back to this place. I have a 4month Goldendoodle. Melody was the groomer. I filled out a questionnaire and she asked me twice what style I wanted for my puppy. I responded twice by saying teddy bear cut, between her paws, private area. Will call you 20min before to let you know she’s almost done. Two hours passed no call. I called to asking for update and they said that’s she’s a puppy and very distracting. I waited 3 hrs and 20 min. Luna was a mess. They gave her a poodle haircut, it’s uneven, hair was left between her paws and private area. It’s so upsetting. My puppy will not go there ever again.

This is the first time I write a negative review, but the terrible experience left me no choice. I took my puppy in for a face trim and there was barely a difference and so much unevenness. Furthermore the groomer took the liberty of trimming the top of her head i an awkward way that the hair unevenly stands up. When I asked for the groomer to even things, he said my dog was moving too much. Thats not an excuse to do a terrible job! Also, a professional groomer would know not to cut it that short and awkward, I cant put her bows and hairties in. Just a horrible experience and customer service!

Bark Shoppe has been grooming my dog for about 4 years now. He is a shitzu with some special needs and they have been so good with him. We found the right groomer and my dog almost enjoys the process now. They always do a great job and I highly recommend them.

Finally a groomer in Manhattan that does a wonderful job at a reasonable rate and has good availability--within a week or two of calling. I had taken my 10-pound Havanese to several groomers in the UWS/Harlem zone and there were always hidden fees, sometimes brining the total experience to over $160. Worse, my dogs hair was always cut much too short (Havaneses have hair, not fur!). During the pandemic, I finally resorted to taking her to a groomer in NJ which was more reasonably priced but that never did as expert a job as the Bark Shoppe. The NJ cut was always choppy and uneven. My dog is generally uneasy around new people and environments, but she settled into the arms of the Bark Shoppe groomer and didnt try to wrestle herself away. He held her firm and stroked her with care, and that confident touch seemed to put her at easeI also appreciated the Bark Shoppes diligence about my dogs vaccination paperwork. The other places in Manhattan accepted my vets bill as proof of vaccination and the place in NJ didnt require any vax records at all. In addition to the vets tally of vaccines, the Bark Shoppe required that I provide the rabies certificate--which Id never heard of but that my vet said *should* be a standard request of all groomers. I trust that if the Bark Shoppe was so thorough with me, they are with other clients, which makes me feel better about having my dog around other pooches.

There’s absolutely nothing I can complain about! I had gone to Petco to get my 4 month puppy groomed and basically said it was impossible and stopped half way. Once I came here they accommodated me with everything I needed, explored my options and tips for caring my puppy after. The price is completely worth it!!

I took both of my dogs here to get groomed, they were very kind and professional. My golden retriever came home happy and clean and then two days later had scabs and sores all over his back. The vet diagnosed post grooming furunculosis. He had a rather mild case and it cleared up after about a week and a half with constant cleaning with anti microbial soap and antiseptic. I assumed this was due to him having long hair and not being groomed for a year since they had such good reviews and I had no other problem.I took my short haired chihuahua to get a bath only one month later and he developed post grooming furunculosis immediately. He has 15 sores on him that are completely raw.The employees were kind and professional and they are the only reason for two stars. Whatever tools and supplies management is giving their employees is unacceptable.

Last time I came, I was so disheartened by their horrible customer service from who claims to be one of the owners. So Ive been going here for two years and never had an issue, I go back and forth from a Philadelphia so for my New York groomers this WAS my place. I called to schedule to see if the next day they had availability. They were able put me in and asked if my dogs were up to date with vaccinations. I said I wasnt sure, but I think they are since the last groomer visit in Philadelphia saw my paperwork but that I would show them their records when I got there. The guy over phone said that was fine but never explained to me the policy that if they didnt have every vaccination required they would have to cancel and I would lose my deposit. If I was told this policy i would of waited on scheduling unless i knew for sure they had all the required vaccinations. The afternoon that I came for my appt, the lady in the counter said I was missing kennel cough vaccine and they couldnt be seen. Which I understand if thats the law. I assume my vet never gave this vaccine because my dogs arent boarded. Regardless, i wasnt aware they didnt have it. The lady at front desk said she could reschedule in the next two weeks when I explained I wouldnt be here, she said she could not give me my deposit. Even though I explained to her I had no idea of this policy and I even stated with uncertainty over the phone if they had what they required for vaccinations. She pretty much dismissed me, and stated she would talk to who I spoke on the phone and get back to me. I never got a phone call back and I was still charged since they have my CC information on file . Im disappointed that they never acknowledged their faults, never called me after she stated she would and that they didnt honor a loyal customer. Not only did they lose me as a customer but every person Ive ever recommended. At end of the day its not about the money but as small business owner myself, customer service should be priority especially to a prior loyal customer and maybe have all employees explain the policy over the phone!

I came across The Bark Shoppe when they hosted the Mobile Vet. This was my first time bringing my Rosa (Shih Tzu) there. I was very pleased with the services. Rosa was very happy and looked and smelled amazing. The staff was very kind and professional. I will be returning with my dog for a follow up visit. Very Pleasant experience.

Our Zachary had his first visit a few weeks ago and they were really good. The staff was attentive to our needy pooch, kept us posted on his activities and he seemed to adjust to them quickly. Great to have an available (and affordable) service in the neighborhood.

0 stars, in short they care only about money these days. take your pet somewhere else.lately they have been more about money and not compassionate about pets, my dog died on the day that I have scheduled the appointment on 6/1/19, during the night she was feeling terrible bad. so I called them the bark shoppe to cancel my appointment having this huge horrible problem and they told me in short that they didnt care about my pet, they wanted the money (cancellation fee) because the policy is the policy and if my dog dies that who cares?.my pet died that day, go somewhere else!, the current owner/s and current administration is not good, something goes wrong you wont be in good hands, nop. good luck!.we are devastated about our dog, and guess what? yes they charged me the cancellation fee, fine is only $ 20, this is not about $20, this is about not treating your pet the way she deserved, we went for many years and she told yeah! thank you for your business (with some sarcasm), enjoy your $20! ..

Amazing grooming salon in Harlem! They groomed my miniature poodle wonderfully. The best we have had in the city so far. This is our new groomers without a doubt! The cost is affordable and the people are very nice.

I have never written a review before, but after experiencing *such* an incredible lack of professionalism from the owner, Melissa, and the guy that answers the phone..I have to write this.My lady n I noticed a cut on my dog’s (Choco) ear when we got home - you can clearly see the dried blood and section of his skin missing in the photographs, along with the idiot hair cut he received. It *clearly* looks like the groomer used scissors or clippers and came WAY too close to Cs ear. Its as clear as day. Yet both the guy on the phone and Melissa continue to deny there was any wrong doing and have insinuated that I am to blame. They made us bring C in to be inspected - They took C into a room alone and proclaimed it not to be a cut. Phone boy *insisted* its not a cut numerous times but then was nice enough to issue a $30 refund. I insisted to speak to the owner even though phone boy didnt think it was worth the effort. They have since issued us a full refund, but I want to reiterate that they continue to deny any wrong doing. This is SO infuriating.. I trusted my dog with these people, paid them $80 for a service, and instead of doing a good job, my dog gets cut, they deny any liability and gaslight tf out of me. Save your time, money, and your beautiful, loving, pups. DONT waste your time here. You can read Melissa’s asinine email response to this and judge for yourself what kind of person she is, along with the kind of service you’re likely to encounter.

I was very excited to take my dog to The Bark Shoppe. I called and scheduled my appointment prior. I was asked if my dog was dematted and I responded yes! I wash and demat my dog ever two to three weeks. Shes a long and curly haired Yorkshire Terrier. Its definitely difficult to maintain her hair which was why I was seeking a cut that fit an aesthetic I wanted but was also more manageable for me as an owner. From the moment I arrived, I was met with a weird energy from the owner of the shop and continued to get critiqued about the condition of my dog. I had just bathed her and dematted her hair prior to my arrival. Ill honestly admit to having left a small spot under arms. However, the owner was persistent about me leaving her to get dematted by them and then coming another day for a cut, which didnt make sense because my dogs hair would get tangled all over again. I offered to demat her and bring her in again. The continued to make a big fuss about my dogs hair and saying how its going to be difficult and then offered to clip her nails (which were definitely overgrown - our last haircut spot wasnt the greatest nor consistent with doing all my requests), which is why I sought a new place that would do a consistent job. Continually I was made to feel uncomfortable. I tried working with the staff and figuring out a middle ground that made sense but didnt seem like I was being taken advantaged of. This shop had already charged a $20 deposit so I was comfortable with getting the her nails clipped and a couple mats taken from her underarms. Overall, it was a very uncomfortable experience for me and my dog. They critiqued my dog for not being comfortable with them which to me is a normal thing for a dog who isnt used to a new place or people trying to touch her, she is normally a very friendly dog and rolls right over to get belly rubs. I think my dog knew herself it wasnt the best place. The fact that there was construction going on in the grooming room and the dog getting a cut whilst I was there was shaking I feel spoke volumes about the way they care for the animals they cut. Im happy I made the decision to leave and not leave my dog in their care. Im writing this to share my experience so other folks dont go through what I did and are made to feel uncomfortable. I admit to my own faults of her hair being tangled/matted in some spots, which is why I washed and dematted most of her body before bringing her to make the job easier. I feel what they were seeking was an easy job and not to work so hard.

The Bark Shoppe is our go to grooming service in the neighborhood. Whenever Kobe starts look like an ewok, we know it is time to schedule an appointment with The Bark Shoppe. Scheduling an appointment is easy, and great customer service is what they are known for. Kobe always leaves grooming with a fresh cut and smelling amazing.We really appreciate the handkerchief after every session.Bottom line - if you live in Harlem - there is no better place than the Bark Shoppe for your dogs grooming needs.

The administration and management of this groomer is subpar. No one tells you this is two separate businesses operating under one roof. The grooming website says they close at 6, Google maps says it closes at 6, all their literature says they close at 6. How should anyone know they close at 4, but the daycare which has the same name and the same address is a separate business that closes at 6.. I scheduled my dog for a 2:30pm groom. No one told me they close at 4. I dropped her off, no one told me they close at 4. They said they would call me when she was ready for me to pick her up. At 3:15 he called me to say she would be ready in 15 minutes. Only when I said okay I can be there a few minutes past 4 did he tell me they close at 4. If I wanted to be late, I would have to pay an admission and boarding fee to the separate business. He was completely rude about the entire thing. He said he was giving me 45 minutes to come get her and that’s enough. But really he was giving me 30, because she wasn’t ready yet. I was supposed to be on a meeting call for that 30 minutes. I asked him if he could talk to the other business and explain what happened and that I’d be there at 4:05. Long story short they would not. I canceled my meeting and picked her up at 3:55. I asked to speak to the owner, they said she would call me. She did not. I left a voicemail and sent an email. She didn’t call me. How can anyone know that they close at 4? They don’t care about customer service or bad reviews so might as well.By the way, they close at 4.Two stars and not 1 because she was clean and that was the point.Edit: their response below says they look forward to hearing from me. Well, they could have called me like I asked, responded to my voicemail, or responded to my email. Lip service. It’s unfortunate that you have to review a business poorly to get them to communicate. I waited 3 weeks before leaving a review and tried to communicate with them many times since. Lack of communication from start to finish caused me to leave this review. Grooming is a luxury service (for most breeds). This company treats clients like a nuisance. Going to 113th and Frederick Douglass now.

Excellent service and care. My dog loves them!

Came in for self wash for my dog. The staff was super nice, especially Jeter, they gave us everything we needed to wash our large German shepherd, shampoo, towels, brushes, aprons plus they didn’t mind the mess we left behind and said they will take care of it! Will definitely come back!

Im new to the neighborhood and was looking for someplace local to take my dog Barack during covid-19. I discovered The Bark Shoppe on a google search. I was extremely impressed with how clean and safe the process was. I move around a lot and have tried several grooming salons but this by far was our best experience. Well definitely be returning.

Brake shoppe never disappoints. I drive all the way from the Bronx to bring my baby here. Always the perfect cut. And great service.

The service is inconsistent.Today I called to reschedule an appointment for another day or time and she immediately said they charge a $15 dollar late fee, $20 dollar cancellation fee, and that they dont do same day appointments. That is reasonable. Only thing is their policy is at their convenience and some days you get a different response. In none of the emails I received nor during the phone conversation were these fees specified. I cancelled the appointment and will dispute the charge with my bank and submit the emails. Its not about the $20 dollars because I dont care, its about the lack of consistency and how immediate they are to have so many fees for any inconvenience they may have with your dog. I did see the information on their website later on today but I did not book an appointment online, it was over the phone and customers should be notified regardless of the method they make the appointment just how they are so quick to bring up fees.They are unwilling to take responsibility for anything that they may do wrong so make sure to check your dog before you leave and maintain an eye on them the rest of the week if you choose to bring your dog here. Today Im just over it with them.I wont be using their grooming services any longer.

I love the Bark Shoppe. Ive taken my dog Carter here a few times and each time, the space is clean, Im greeted warmly, hes treated well and when I pick him up he looks amazing. Rocky always makes him look good! Well definitely be back.

My dogs Aries and Artemis both get groomed at this location and I couldn’t be happier. Their groomer is Shaina and she is soo talented and versatile. No cut is the same. I definitely recommend this place!!!

I am so surprised at the terrible service I received here. Both receptionist and groomer were rude at drop off. The groomer gave my dog a Schnauzer face when I asked for a Teddy Bear face. I could deal with all of that except they cut my dog with the scissors THREE TIMES on his back right leg. It’s so bad he won’t even walk on it. They did not even bother to apologise. They also cut too close near his eyes. And the blueberry facial smells awful. NEVER GOING BACK. SO UPSET.

The Bark Shoppe provides stellar service. I always drop off my dog knowing confidently that he will be taken care of well and he will leave looking sharp! They truly go above and beyond here!

Love this place. I have taken my dog here since Ive moved to Harlem two years ago and they are always so great with my dog. They know who he is when we walk in and give me a full report upon leaving. Professional and super nice. Im moving further uptown but will make the trip to bring my dog back.

I absolutely love The Barke Shoppe. The staff are more than professional and punctual. Ginger is my fur baby so i make sure she is well taken care of inside and out. The Barke Shoppe is VERY strict on vaccinations being up to date. This is one reason why I am a loyal customer.Xoxo.

I took my dog here sometime ago and the service was not great. My dog had patches on his butt that the groomer missed and my dog was different after. You can tell when a dog was not happy. I will not be going back there. So many other places you can go. I thought to give black services a shot but I see I have to go with the white folks(yes its a shame) but it is what it is. Our folks dont take care of their business and they can not take reviews. They challenge everything instead of trying to fix it.

I scheduled an appointment in advance, I selected “specialty breed” bath (the most expensive option) when I got there they said “oh we can’t bathed the dog because it’s coat is matted in certain parts specially around where the harness is… ummm I know, hence I’m here to get this taken care of by “professionals” I’ve never been refused a scheduled bath with such a lame/lazy argument… Why are they in this business if they don’t want to deal with the nuances of the services they are promoting and selling..? I don’t recommend this place another person got his bath/haircut canceled as well while I was there. It’s annoying bc you are counting on something legitimate and the reality is they are completely unreliable and unprofessional.

There needs to be an option for 0. STARS!!!! It’s very unfortunate that I have to write this review of my bad experience with this business. It’s shocking because I liked this place and I’ve brought my dog here before. I called twice to make an appointment and told them the date! The woman on the phone confirmed. Now, the day of my appointment I was in an Uber about to arrive and I called to let them know. They told me that they put me for another date! What’s worse the lady with no empathy, MELISSA! Would not see me for their mistake!!!!! I asked to squeeze me in the same day, explained I was already there and she Still would not accommodate me! What’s bad is that the last time they took me in the same day!!! With NO PROBLEM! I’ve even referred people to this place. This is really sad. Had high hopes for this place but now I will spread the word to not support this business! Horrible!

They were so amaizing and attentive. We have a new puppy, very hyper and they took their time to take care of her. Lola came home smelling delicious! For sure coming back, Wynter was great.

The groomer basically skinned my dog and left large bald patches, and also left him in pain. When I emailed / called to find out what had happened, the owner defensively said they had communicated with my dog walker that my pet had patches of matting. No one attempted to reach me, the owner, however. The areas where they said he had matted fur also do not correspond to where he was shaved. At no point did anyone apologize for what happened or attempt to make it right. I try to support small businesses, but we will not be returning here.

We have brought our dog here for several years and have consistently had a great experience. Our dog can be stubborn and shes BIG but Diane always finds a way to make her look great.

Canceled my appointment last minute then offered me an appointment 2 weeks later which is kind of unreasonable but understandable. So I understandably requested a refund which as issued but then I wanted to reschedule the appointment with the complimentary services offered for canceled appointment like 30 seconds later. And the man told me he can’t offer me that anymore because he already sued my refund. Which was kind of unfortunate.. Because they canceled on me.

What a lovely staff they have here. Super kind and helpful. They were very knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend to any dog lover.

Hi my name is Marisol and I would like to say that I took my dog rocky to get groomed at the bark shoppe mobile and omgggg Im so amazed I love how well winter took great care of my rocky he looks like a brand new dog. Rocky is not easy to groom he moves a lot a lot a lot and I’m still in shock on how well she groomed him we will definitely be back to see you winter 5 stars thanks.

Took my dog in for a grooming a while back and when i got her back my dogs eyes were dark red where the whites of her eyes should be. We took her to the vet and they said that typically happens when groomers leave dogs unattended on the table with the collar on and then the dogs fall off and hang by their neck chocking. I was super busy at the time so i never had a chance to call the place to get an explanation, but i wanted to post this review to warn others in case they dont want their dogs hanging to death.

The bark shop is awesome For my 1st time I can say I love it. They worker are respectful and so careful for the pets. This is the place I see myself comin especially for his grooming.
