My Arrow the Airedale, canine star of stage and screen, was 8 weeks old when we began training with Jay Andors of Perfect Behavior Dog Training. Initially, I had contacted Jay to help me with “hand stripping”, a particular technique for grooming wire coated dogs. He explained that the very first step in grooming, for any dog, is to train for obedience— such as tolerating standing still, lying down, sitting— and wow, did that make sense!Jay was fatherly, kind, patient, and had a clear syllabus of graded challenges and behaviors with which to follow over the course of the weeks of sessions that we had with him. He took the time to understand what my goals were for both home life and the dream of having my dog work alongside me either as an animal assisted therapy dog (I was an occupational therapist) or as a showbiz dog (my other career). Jay helped me develop these goals and dream both big and small. And thus, our sessions extended way beyond grooming— to loose-leash walking, developing Arrow’s attention and focus, targeting (we went from my puppy simply touching a target with his nose or paw, to opening handicap/ accessible doors when he was tall and strong enough!), and much more— all when he was just months old! By the time he was 13 months old, Arrow had acquired his first professional gig— as “Sandy” at the 92nd St Y’s production of “Annie”.It has now been 8 years of non-stop love and success with my dream dog. He has been on the set of Law and Order, New Amsterdam, She’s Gotta Have it Too, among others. He even has had multiple theater critics mention his perfect behavior in reviews! This month, my Arrow performed in his 7th professional production of Annie.During one performance, there was a technical error that stopped the show for 20 minutes. Arrow and I were given permission to come on the stage and entertain the audience with tricks and stories of his “pawsome” career, as well as participate in a Q&A with the captivated audience. Many questions centered around “how did you get Arrow to do THAT!?” And I found myself responding by explaining, Jay Andors helped us with that!”Jay’s mentorship and ongoing support has provided a life-long foundation of success for Arrow and our family, and we can’t thank him enough!

Jay has been wonderfully helpful and patient as my husband and I train our 1 y/o cocker spaniel. Our puppy was very destabilized by a move, and Jay has helped us build his confidence back with scent work and helped us train him to be more comfortable alone. Hes gone above and beyond by helping us connect with vets, recommending books and videos, and answering frantic messages throughout the week. Wed certainly recommend him.

From the first phone call when scheduling, Jay immediately discussed behavior/growing pains and was able to describe the behavior and the problem we were facing. Then, when we met for the initial consult, he immediately saw the issue and never blamed the dog or called him bad instead he helped us understand our dog! We all want to be our dogs advocate, and Jay was his advocate from the first moment. He shared how we can move forward, gave action items, and was a wealth of information. If you want someone who will take the time to understand your dog, teach you how to understand your dog, all while trying to get to the root of the miscommunication I have to recommend Jay.

As a first-time dog owner, and having concern over my 5 month puppy with separation anxiety, Im so happy I had the chance to connect with Jay. His knowledge, expertise, and insights were exactly what I needed to help my puppy overcome his fears and for myself to remain positive and calm throughout the process. I can promise that just a five quick minute over the phone conversation will help any dog owner to know that things will indeed be alright. Jay is exceptional at providing a foundation on how to successfully raise a puppy to overcome their fears. He will always be someone I trust to help guide me along my new journey with my puppy. Highly recommend for any dog owners that have concerns over behavior problems with their pet.

I have been working with Jay now for a month and have developed so much more confidence when it comes to my dog, Teddy. I had been suffering for a while with how to handle some sidewalk aggression with my dog and Jay has worked with me in a systematic and methodical fashion that has given me some real results. I feel like he is thorough but also takes his time to get to the behavioral issue. I wasn’t looking for a quick-fix, I wanted someone who could really help me develop a better relationship with my dog and I feel like I’m getting exactly that. thanks Jay!

I have a 35 pound rescue dog, Maxwell, that I love very much, but he has a lot of issues - he is perceived as aggressive by most, he urinates in the apartment, cries or barks when he wants something until he gets it, barks loudly when he hears any noise, air bites at people when they try to pet him, guards his food and other objects, cannot be around other dogs, growls and snares at other people on walks, is triggered by loud noises and children, and the list goes on... Also Maxwell has pancreatitis, so his food and treat intake is limited.I first contacted Jay in a place of desperation, really not knowing if Maxwell could function in a small apartment in a busy part of the city. With my input and feedback, Jay developed a strategy to manage Maxwell on walks and stop the urinating in the apartment (our top priories). With Jays training, Maxwell has improved dramatically on walks, I can now walk him and not worry that he will bark loudly at people or children, lunge at people or dogs, or become startled and reactive due to loud noises. This was complete in six to seven sessions. We are also working on crate shaping, so Maxwell will go in the crate during the day and stop the urination in the apartment.Jay takes my desperate calls, emails, and texts at most hours, and is always available to talk through the dog crises that are evolving. Jay was our last resort, we have tried other training methods that havent worked, and no one else will take Maxwell because of his aggressive tendencies. Jay really cares about Maxwell, and it shows in his work and concern. My husband is in federal law enforcement and I am an attorney, so neither of us have a lot of time for training. Now we use walks as training sessions, and about 20 additional minutes in the apartment each day. We currently meet with Jay once a week, but hope to increase that in the near future. I really dont know if Maxwell will ever be a perfectly behaved dog, but with Jays assistance I think we can manage him and keep everyone safe.I highly recommend Jay, wish I could give him six stars. Thanks, Jay!

Our initial consultation was great - we would highly recommend this training service! Our dog is having issues in multiple areas, so Jay took time to go through some basics with us. For example, our dog barks at strangers coming into our apartment. Jay immediately was able to get him to stop barking and told us why he was barking in the first place. He left us with homework for the week (some actionable next steps) and we immediately scheduled a follow-up. Very informative - we look forward to continuing to work with Jay.

Jay was absolutely helpful to my nervous 8-month-old black lab mix. She is terrified of walking outside in our noisy neighborhood. Jay came all the way to Brooklyn to work with us and Birdies has noticeably improved. Jay always answers my follow-up texts and reminds me of tips and pointers as well as holding me accountable to bettering Birdies behavior. Slowly but surely, she is becoming more comfortable with walking and being outside. Jay is also a native Brooklynite!! He isextremely knowledgeable about dogs and their behaviors and compulsions. I highly recommend his services!

Ive known Jay for years, ever since my dog was a puppy and his help has been incredibly valuable. His positive reinforcement training has helped my dog get past some challenges without causing her any stress. He is incredibly patient with dogs -- and owners! -- and explains things clearly and helpfully. My dog adores him and is super eager to please. He is also the only groomer Ill go to because of how calm and stress-free the environment is. The fact that she always looks adorable is a bonus!!

I feel compelled to write a review about Jay because it is amazing what he has managed to do with my service dog in such little time. Variety is only 7 months and he’s able to travel in the subway and long distance trains calmly and without accidents (he is fully potty trained!).When we first met Jay, Variety was only 3 months and we were very overwhelmed with puppyhood but in just one session he was able to teach Variety three commands and that gave us hope. Thanks to Jay I have the most wonderful and well behaved service dog and for that I’m very grateful.

We first met Jay Andors at his wonderful dog grooming salon, where we were encouraged to help bathe and dry our pets. It was clear that Jay understood how to reduce animal stress even in the most mundane tasks. He told us he was also a trainer and related to us his training and study of Karen Pryor’s clicker method, designed to train animals scientifically—a proven method known to be effective for animals as disparate as dolphins and octopuses. Jay is an expert in the clicker method and has advanced training in the method. When we first adopted our second Sheltie, Sarah, she was very shy, as dog experts say. We might say ‘fearful’. She would not come when call and she was frightened of any approach to her. We called Jay for his help and brought him in to help us. He worked with us and with Sarah, enabling us to reach her and gain her confidence.Jay was always available to help us and recommended new training techniques throughout the time we have known him. Our older dog Nina has a problem with bicycles and runners. She barks and leaps at their approach. Jay has been very helpful in coaching us in ways to distract and help Nina.We highly recommend Jay as a kind, effective and knowledgeable trainer.Rory and Shelly Butler

As first time dog owners, we didn’t really know what we should be doing to train our mischievous Blue Picardy Spaniel, Theo. He was an adorable puppy, always active, always ready to play and always up to something naughty the second we left him alone in a room. By the time he was nine months old we were exhausted. We decided we needed a little professional help and, after asking for recommendations from other UWS dog owners, I called Jay Andors. The first time Theo met Jay he was immediately both focused and calm. Within moments he understood that if he showed the correct behavior he would receive a treat. Jay worked with Theo and me for six sessions shaping Theo’s behavior using clicker training. We saw vast improvements in many areas, especially impulse control. Theo learned basic commands – sit, stay, down, - and developed an excellent recall. He also learned to drop items using “off,” to come to me and touch his nose to my hand at the word “touch” (very useful during walks and as a way to regain his attention), and also to go and settle on his own mat at the command “mat.” Jay was incredibly patient, taking the time to explain the science behind the training, and also to make me feel good about the work I was doing in Theo’s training. Jay also recommended dog toys to keep Theo’s mind active to burn off some of his extra energy. Over the course of a few weeks Theo became much calmer, and more able to settle quietly and entertain himself - and so was a much easier dog for us to handle. Thanks to Jay, we could finally relax a little! When we got a second dog, Ziggy, we were able to use all the knowledge and training tools that Jay had given us and we trained Ziggy ourselves from the age of three months. While Theo will always be a little bit naughty, our dogs are a joy to be with. I highly recommend Jay as a dog trainer. He loves dogs, respects and understands them, and forms a strong bond with the dogs he works with. He’s kind and patient with humans too!

Jay is a dog training rock star to me. When I moved to the city with Newt, my rough collie, I was terrified because he had no respect for the curb and when he got off leash - a couple (waaaaay too many) times he went into the street and it was a miracle he wasnt killed on the spot. Jay has a way of focusing the dog on a particular behavior and locking it in. Now I can have him off leash in the park with zero worries. If I drop the leash, he doesnt bolt at all anymore. THANK YOU, JAY. You made my life with Newt in the city a leisurely, worry free joy rather than the nightmare it was before I found you. You are the King!
