Words cannot describe what an amazing job Rick was able to do with our dog. His knowledge is beyond what you will find at any other trainer. Rick is honest and fair and teaches both you and your dog. You have to be ready to recognize that you are going to have to make changes yourself and learn and practice with your dog. Our dog was aggressive towards other dogs and couldn’t walk on a leash to save her life. Rick changed our relationship with our dog and she is a pleasure to walk and her aggression has decreased such an amazing amount in just 4 weeks. Worth every penny and would always recommend. Having a well behaved and happy dog will make your life so much easier.
Took our gsd to sit means sit where they turned him into an aggressive misbehaved dog. That’s when we talked with Rick. He was able to teach us how to understand how dogs think. He was able to show us how to have more control over our dog. Now after training with Rick I have a dog I can actually take on walks without getting dragged and he is improving still in the car. I just want to thank you Rick for all your help.
We just completed the dog training with Mastersway Dog Training. My first experience was 4 years ago. My dog STILL listens and knows everything he learned on day 1. Once he (AND I) completed the training he never had to go back or go to any other trainers. We got another dog earlier this year and decided to take her, she responded just as well! This was by far the best dog training experience. You can tell that Rick takes pride in his work and cares about these dogs. It is truly unbelievable to watch. We couldn’t be happier with Mastersway. If you take it serious like I did you will not have any regrets.Thank you!
Please do not waste a dime on anyone else! We tried other animal experts, but had never gotten the results we got from Rick. Our two border collies are effortless on the leash and obey without question. But, he taught US, not our dogs. He taught us to understand the subtle things that we do that affect the behavior of our dogs. We are now confident and capable! And our friends and family are amazed at the difference in our dogs. We didnt work on basic commands; we worked on the dogs realizing who the true leaders of the pack are and understanding how to create an atmosphere of trust and respect. This leads to the dogs wanting to please and perform. Again, we have spent a great deal of money on past trainers and have gotten no results. Rick told us that he would work with us for four weeks; I calculated that he spent approximately 18-19 hours working with us...and said that we could get as many extra lessons and phone calls that we needed during that time (of which we did take advantage). When I first heard what the cost of his training program was, I was concerned about the cost and wondered about the value. However, now that we have completed the program, I truly believe that it is an absolute bargain based on the number of hours that he worked with us and the results that weve experienced. Make no mistake, Rick is tough with the humans in the beginning, as his number one concern is the animals, but just as we wouldnt tell a pilot how to fly a plane, we had to trust that he knew best and that we had to humble ourselves and allow him to do his work. Were so happy we did; our lives are so much better now! And we know that Rick will always be one phone call away if we need him. Thank you, Rick, for caring so much and for being so passionate. Youre truly a gift and are making such a difference in the lives of so many families!
We brought our puppy Chapo to Rick so we could learn how to help him be the best dog he could be. I called a few different trainers and was pretty sure after my conversation with him that he was our guy. Chapo is a nervous dog and doesn’t care much for new people, but he immediately was accepting of Rick which made our decision for us. I am SO GLAD we found him. He is incredibly knowledgeable, fair and always available to help during the training process. Our dog’s demeanor has changed completely. He’s much more relaxed at home and is an absolute gentleman on walks. He is very fair with his training. It’s evident that he loves the dogs he works with. If you’re even considering hiring a trainer I cannot recommend Rick enough. You will NOT regret it!!
We went to Rick with our 10 month old Goldendoodle who has a ton of energy, jumps all over everyone, pulls when walking, and goes crazy when she sees other dogs. Rick is passionate and caring with the training he provides to the dog, and even more so to the dogs human. He explains the training clearly and provides situational examples so that the humans can best understand. It brought tears to my eyes to see our puppy after day one with Rick, walk calmly and happily at his side as if they were one. The harder part was changing our human behavior so that we could provide that same happiness to her. Were getting there. Be prepared to listen and learn with Rick, let go of what you thought you knew, and you will find yourself in a happy and healthy relationship with your dog. And your visitors and neighbors will appreciate it too!! Thank you Rick!
I had tried some dog training videos without much success. Rick taught me how to understand what my dog needs and I was impressed by his approach to training, which was more about training me about being ready in the moment than it was about training the dog. I am very happy to say it works and it doesnt rely on a continual feeding of treats to get the dog to behave the way you want. Its all about establishing a mutual trust and respect between you and the dog. My dog Opal, a 100 pound Anatolian Shepard/Great Pyrenees mix, responded so well to the training and learned everything so quickly. While I had some trouble initially understanding the importance of always having your eyes on the dog, having the dog walk on the left side and having my hands on the leash in the right position, it became second nature with a little practice. Opal and I are still practicing, and it goes better each time. I highly recommend Masters Way Dog Training.
WOW, what a transformation! We have a 2 year old standard poodle, Augustus Rosario Assenza, who was like “tigger” on a leash when we walked him. Friends no longer enjoyed coming to the house because our dog was hyper and bouncing all over them. Auggie enjoyed meals off the counter and out of the trash and he barked like crazy at everyone who came near the house. A neighbor recommended Rick and after we saw his dog’s good behavior, we knew we had to get help. We were skeptical that it could actually work for Auggie but after a brief consultation we signed up.We don’t know what happened in Auggie’s first 6 hour private session with Rick but when we met afterwards for our 2 hour human training session, Auggie was clearly a changed dog! He was well behaved, listening and smitten with Rick. No treats involved. He was also completely different at our house. Rick is always on the side of the dog and doesn’t sugarcoat it when the dog’s owner messes up… even telling us he wished he know a good doggy attorney after one of our mistakes. Did I say he has a good sense of humor? Not only did he train all 3 of us, but we also learned SO MUCH about dogs in general. He has endless knowledge of the history of dogs and how to care for them. It is quite fascinating to spend time with him. We have changed everything we were doing with Auggie and it is so rewarding to spend time with him now. We are even going to take him on our summer vacation! Rick is truly a dog whisperer.
I dont know where to begin...we cannot thank Rick enough for the time he spent with us and our dog. We had family dogs growing up, but Vader is the first dog we have had on our own so we wanted to go to a reputable dog trainer to learn as much as we could in order to raise our dog successfully.Everything Rick said was extremely helpful, and he was brutally honest which we appreciated. While Rick is very personable and relatable, he didnt baby us - he let us know when we were making mistakes and how to fix them all while being fair to the dog. Vader learned very quickly...it was us who needed the training!! We learned how many of the traditional dog training strategies were not fair to the dog nor did they make any sense, so we learned to eliminate those from our routine with Vader. He shared strategies with us that really made sense and allowed us to get into the mind of our dog which enabled us to establish a closer bond with him, therefore making training successful. Everything Rick did had a purpose and a bigger goal. He helped show us training is so much more than sit, stay, come. If you are willing to put the work and commitment into this, your time and energy will be worth it.Rick used zero force, intimidation, or fear when working with Vader. Vader felt confident working with Rick and it was great to see how they interacted when working together. Rick is constantly checking to make sure everything is fair to the dog...he is never mean or harsh. On our final day of training, I drove away with a huge smile because I knew life here on out with our dog would be a breeze if we continue working with Vader every day and actively use what Rick taught us. I would recommend Rick to anyone looking to train their dog, whether it be a puppy like ours or an older dog. We are so appreciative for what he has taught us. He was incredible and truly has a gift for working with animals. His compassion and dedication to dogs is obvious...I wouldnt want my dog trained by anyone else!
In October, our 7 year old hound rescue chewed a slat off the bottom of our fence to squeeze out. We could smell the skunk in the air, and knew that he got sprayed...unfortunately, the smell was the least of our worries. When we rescued Jerry at 6 months old he had never been properly socialized, being quarantined with his brother who had parvo. Jerry has always been nervous and lashed out aggressively towards dogs that were not ours. As we looked for Jerry that night, we were worried that he would be hit by a car or worse, hurt a person or another dog. Luckily, we found Jerry, and the only issue was the awful skunk smell. Immediately, we set out to find a training program. Jerry had been to two before and we also had private training. This time, I specifically looked for someone who we could leave him with for training and that is when Masters Way popped up. Rick met with us and showed us how it was us and not Jerry, and that we were correcting and rewarding all the wrong things, at all of the wrong times, being very unfair to Jerry. On the way there my husband was completely skeptical especially given all of the money we had already spent on training. During the initial consult, Rick brought his dog out and Jerry was calmly looking at Rick for cues even when Jerry was inside our car. RICK DID NO TRAINING WITH JERRY ON THE INITIAL CONSULTATION AND STILL JERRY LOOKED TO HIM CALMLY! My husband was still skeptical but ready to give it a try. Jerry spent 6 hours with Rick and then Rick spent 2 hours with us on day one of training. Jerry was a different dog in just 6 hours but we were slower to catch on to the very easy training that Rick gave us. It really is about being in tune and thoughtful about what you are doing. Rick saw us again the next day and 4-5 more times after that. Rick seemed happy to accommodate our schedules and work with us until we got it. Rick is honest and fair in his feedback. He truly understands dogs and the relationship between dog and leader. We are not perfect with our practice yet but walking is much more relaxing and Jerry is much less anxious. We will be bringing our other rescue in the Spring. The only thing I am unhappy about is that it took us 20 years of leading dogs to find this method. Rick is amazing and the cost is well worth the happiness and safety of my husband, myself, and both of our dogs. Life changing!
Honestly going to see Rick was one of the best choices we could have ever made. His knowledge of dogs and training were beyond anyone I had ever met. He really made us take a look at our dogs perspective instead of just our own. Im so thankful for all of his help! His work with us has helped to make our home more peaceful and our dog more confident. Our dog lacked confidence and was starting to become nervous/aggressive around new people and dogs. After the first day with Rick you could see his confidence boost. The training and drills that Rick taught us have continued to help him build his confidence and to build our relationship. There is no better feeling than having your dog prancing beside you looking calm and happy. Im so thankful for the relationship I have with my pup now!!I honestly wish I had never gone anywhere else and I will definitely be referring all of my friends to him. Thank you Rick!
So my story is a little different than most reviews here. I didn’t have a terribly behaved dog. I didn’t have an overly aggressive dog. My dog was a bit shy and lacked confidence. He was also really bad on leash and that was what finally brought me to Rick. I just couldn’t watch my boy go through life choking and gagging trying to get to whatever interested him on a walk. It would have been unfair to wait any longer to get some professional training. I was referred to Rick by a friend and owner of my dog’s sibling. After our assessment and his first day with Rick, the real work began. I found Rick to be very honest, funny and warm at times but always ready to correct me for bad or more importantly, unfair handling. This is the key point in his training. You MUST be fair to the dog’s way of thinking. It’s really mind bending at first until you see it in action and suddenly you realize, this makes sense and the dog seems really eager to please too! Prior to Rick’s training there was a lot of confusion on both our parts. So, in conclusion, I know many dog owners and I would recommend his service to anyone willing to put in the time. Rick will teach you how to be a better and more fair dog owner but like all things worthwhile, you have to be willing to put in the effort. Thanks Rick!
We cant thank Rick enough for his help. When we first adopted our dog, we were not sure if we could handle him. He had behavioral issues, he growled and barked at strangers and was very timid. Through this training, we have grown to be more confident as handlers, and our dog has become more confident in us. Rick doesnt just train the dog, he trains you. No treats, no gimmicks. Its pure relationship building with you and your dog. Rick is a straightforward guy who doesnt mess around, but his love for the animals is clear. Expect to put in a good deal of effort outside of your training sessions, because it is required to ensure you build a good relationship with your dog. He provides free consultations, so at least take the time to meet with him. Its well worth it!
We took our 1 year old rescue to Rick with concerns regarding his aggressiveness as well as other minor issues. We cannot express the gratitude we have for him as we saw major improvements after just the first session. We learned so much from Rick and have been able to continue to institute the techniques we were taught following training. Rick is extremely personable and his knowledge regarding dogs is unmatched, if you are considering training your dog he is the guy!
Rick is incredible with dogs and can transform your relationship with your best friend. He trains you as much as the dog and you both end up so confident ... you can see the growth. Hes not into shock collars and he believes in training with love and energy no gimmicks here. Rick is a pro (literally - check his resume out) and even more, a really great person. Both he and your pup are worth every penny. Id give 6 stars if theyd let me!
I have three young children so when we decided to add a puppy into the mix I was immediately overwhelmed and knew I needed help. We went to Rick for the initial puppy consultation and then again at 5 months for the full training. I tell everyone our newest addition to the family is my most behaved child (and I do mean this). Rick has a God given talent with dogs. It really is hard to explain unless you witness this firsthand. He has a heart for animals and truly wants to help people have a healthy relationship with their dog. We get compliments all the time on how well behaved our dog is…I always tell them it’s because we went to an amazing trainer. I’d highly recommend Rick to anyone.
Rick just finished helping train us for the puppy we got in April. It is the 2nd dog he has helped us with and we could not be more pleased with either result. I whole heartedly recommend his service to anyone interested. He explains things clearly and has keen insight into how a dog experiences things. I whole heartedly recommend him and hope to work with him again.
Rick worked with us over 12 years ago with our Labrador puppy. We were so pleased that when we recently acquired a Wheaten Terrier puppy we knew we needed Rick’s expertise again. He has an amazing rapport with dogs and that gives you confidence too. We would recommend his services to anyone, without hesitation. Thank you, Rick!
If you want to work with the best of the best- be sure to call Rick at Masters Way Dog Training!!!! Rick is the best dog trainer we have ever met; he truly changed our lives for the better!!!!My husband and I reached out to Masters Way Dog Training after relocating to the Syracuse area. We live in the city where there is constant activity, and noticed our dogs were starting to become aggressive on their leash. Taking them out for a walk was exhausting because once they were in the zone of barking, there was nothing we could say or do to get them to listen to us. We felt like we were at our wits-end considering our dogs are not puppies and almost six years old. Then, I called Masters Way Dog Training and talked to Rick on the phone. I talked to him about what was going on, and he said to bring them down for a consultation. The minute we met him, I knew he was the dog trainer for us. After a couple minutes of assessing their behavior, he understood our dog’s personalities, and talked about how we can work through the issues. The first day of dog training with Rick we noticed an amazing transformation. Throughout the training he helped us understand how our dogs think, and why they didnt listen to us. What we thought was obedience was actually us confusing them. Once Rick showed us how to create clarity with our dogs- we all started to understand each other better. He transformed our dog’s behavior without using fear, treats, or bribery. We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed working with Rick, and highly recommend Masters Way Dog Training!!!!
I’ll try to keep this short and to the point but I could probably write an essay about all the different things you’ll learn at Master’s Way Dog Training. To start, Rick isn’t just a dog trainer. He trains you too and teaches you about the relationship between you and your dog. He shows you how this relationship leads to not only you being happier but also your pooch becoming successful and happy too.Learning why my dog behaved the way he did before training was really enlightening and Rick helped me see that I had been addressing the wrong issues and in the wrong way for the first 10 months of my dog’s life. Rick bridges the gap between our language and that of our K-9 companions so we better understand each other.During the consultation (which is free) Rick will show you one of his dogs and it’s clear that there is something more there than just a man and his well-trained dog. There’s complete confidence and trust with ZERO intimidation or force. It just doesn’t exist in the relationship. From the very first day of training, my dog was so much more calm and confident. You could see it in his eyes. From there things only got better and will continue to do so.I recommend Rick for any breed of dog and for whatever issues you are having with your dog. He can do it all. Thank you to Rick for all your help.
I cant sing enough praise for Rick and Masters Way! Dont waste your time or money anywhere else!!When I decided to seek a dog trainer, I was walking a very fine line. Having dogs before and researching home training extensively, I could not understand why my dog was acting aggressively towards adults, other dogs, and children. If I did not seek help I knew I ran the risk of someone becoming injured or my dog being put down. I had difficulty maintaining control on walks, and my dog only answered to commands on his terms. If I separated him when guests were over he would become very vocal and tear up the room he was in. I felt so sad that this beautiful dog brought me more frustration than joy!Rick opened a whole new world to me. I worked with Rick about once a week for about 2 months, and with my dog every day. Within the first week the improvement in my dogs behavior was noticeable. Since completing my official training with Rick, my dog is more comfortable around strangers, is friendly to dogs and walks with a loose leash. He knows commands like stay, wait and Ricks version of come and does this all without treats, bribes, or harsh punishment. Ive even learned to pick up on subtle cues, and can read when my dog is nervous or happy or feels safe.Rick stresses that in order to find success in training you must earn the respect of your dog. This is not something that is won overnight or even within a few weeks (depending on your situation). Even now that the training is over I still practice what Rick has taught me and continue to see improvements. Rick is unlike any other trainer I have ever met and it is with great confidence that I recommend him to anyone!!!
Rick at Masters Way Dog Training helped teach us how to have an outstanding canine companion. Iwould highly recommend Rick for any size or breed of dog. He uses methods that you have probably never heard of but most trainers do not really know how to foster a good relationshipwith your dog. Dogs need to be shown leadership and people need to develop a strong relationship with their dog in order to have the dog trust that their human owner is the leader and to respectthem. We adopted our dog as a 12 week old puppy at DeWitt Animal Hospital. She is a Pit Bull mix and she is very energetic. We went from having to have her in her crate most of the time the family was around, because she was so energetic , to having her a part of our family the entire day. Rick does not use treats to reward your dogs every move and he does not harshly punish the dog. He teaches the dog to be a calm and obedient member of the household and a joy to have around. We had a hard time with her mouthing our family and visitors, chasing the cat, and jumping on visitors or us when we got home. Rick was able to train her first then he spent the next five weeks training the owner. He gave very individualized service and was available more than weekly if we had any questions or needed to practice. She no longer jumps, chases the cat, or mouths people. Rick can help the most frustrated dog owners who have already tried other trainers because his methods are not run of the mill, I have truly never met anyone so naturally in tune with what you and your dog need to have a good relationship and an enjoyable member of your family. He is able to work with dogs with problems with aggression to puppy education and has excellent advice and training for how to housebreak your dog.I wish we would have had Rick pick our dog up from the shelter for us and help us start off on the right foot with our new addition. This is a service that he provides!Rick is an expert in the field of dog training and he really helped us to develop a well-trained dog and owner in order to help us really enjoy our puppy! His training was more than worth the investment.
Rick is an absolute gift to the dog and human world. He is intuitive, compassionate, and incredibly effective as a dog trainer and as a human coach. Thanks to Rick, our home is much more harmonious. We have fallen in love with our dogs all over again, and the training has mellowed the entire energy of our home. If you are considering hiring him, it will be the best investment of your life and your dog will thank you. The training is fair, strict, and loving. Establishing the sense of trust and security with our dogs has strengthened our bond beyond belief. Thank you for all you have done for us, for our dogs, and for our family! -Alisa and Hilary
Rick Schubert helped us:1-Improved our communication by being thoughtful and clear when speaking with our dog Tux.2-Rick gave us Tips on correcting any problem behaviors we have encountered which frustrated us and him and helped him be successful.3-Understand the Psychology of a dog and gave us best practices to improve our interactions with him and in the environment he encounters (with humans, pers) on a day-to-day basis.I would recommend Rick and the program he has built over decades of experience training dogs and their humans.
Do yourself a favor and skip any other trainers you might be considering - call Rick.I am truly grateful for everything Rick taught me during the 5 week training course and could honestly write a novel on how amazing this man is but Ill try to keep it brief (my version at least). Ricks training course is unlike anything you would typically expect and it works so much better because of that. His training method does not use intimidation, shocks, or bribes. Instead, Rick teaches the owner how to communicate on a level the dog will understand. This strengthens the bond and trust between dog and owner and results in the dog willingly allowing the owner to lead.Ricks training method dissolved my dogs anxieties, boosted my confidence, and transformed our bond. If you take his lessons seriously, I can promise you that you will see the same improvements in your dog and your relationship with him/her. I honestly believe you will not find a better value for your money with any other trainer.Rick - I cannot thank you enough for the peace of mind this training provided and the trust it established. You are the true dog whisperer.
Rick is a phenomenal trainer. His attention to the specific characteristics of our dog set him apart from any other trainer we have been to. He did wonders for our dog and we are very thankful for his patience and willingness to work with us. We highly recommend Rick to anyone who needs a dog trainer.
Butch and I just completed our training with Rick at Masters Way. Ive gone to a lot of trainers with a lot of dogs, and Masters Way is, by far, the best Ive worked with. I had to ditch a lot of bad habits I learned elsewhere, but my relationship with my dog is so much better than it was a month ago. A previous reviewer said you need to leave your ego at home, and its true. Rick will help your dog be the best he/she can be, but you better be serious about your end of the deal. Rick lets you know when youre doing things incorrectly, but he is also quick to praise when you get things right. I could go on, but suffice to say that, as long as Rick is still training, Ill be taking my dogs to him in the future. Butch and I thank you for everything, Rick.
I highly recommend Rick for dog training. We had two very fearful rescue dogs and Rick helped us learn to build their confidence and put them at ease. We saw a huge transformation in our dogs behavior and obedience. They are now happy, well behaved, trained dogs!
Rick told my elderly aunt that her dog was broken and made her cry. He did not do an evaluation of her dog, just made all sorts of judgements and assumptions over the phone. Very rude. She is a 10 month old golden retriever who needs some socialization. The issues we are running into with the dog are minor. Cannot believe the unprofessionalism and the audacity he had to call a dog he has not evaluated a broken dog. Sounds like he’s playing off of fear in order to make a buck. We found another trainer with a much better approach
I cannot say enough good things about Rick. We brought our 6 month old Cane Corso to him for training. We got instant results and the relationship my wife and I have with our dog has grown even more from working with and learning from Rick. His methods of training by showing you how to build your relationship with your dog are priceless. I cannot be more pleased from the results.
Provided unbelievable results, immediately. My dog was returned to me perfectly trained on the first day and we continue to have a wonderful relationship. Rick was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging; very clear and direct in his technique; professional, personable, fair and serious about his training. He brought 100% to every lesson, and expected the same from me. He genuinely cared about my dog, and I left each time feeling confident and successful. People compliment me on how well-behaved my dog is, and it couldnt have been possible without Masters Way! It was the best money I ever spent, and I can never thank Rick enough for what he did for me and my dog.
I just want to take a moment to say that we went through dog training with our beautiful little boy the past few weeks and I couldnt be more happy with the results. Rick with masters way training in Syracuse turned out beagle from a dog that pooped and peed all over the house, tore his crates apart, scratched doors, and ran away into a dog that never poops and pees in the house (since the day we started training), goes on walks without pulling, doesnt try to get out anymore, and STAYS when we tell him too. We are even able to take him off the leash outside and I never thought that would be possible!! Rick has so much dedication to dogs and I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs a trainer!! He doesnt use treats or punishment but really works on building a strong relationship with your dog, hes a great guy Im so happy we chose him!
The vet who referred me to Rick said he was worth every penny--and he was! Bingo, our 20 pound cavalier king charles spaniel, totally got it after Rick worked with him for one day, the rest of the lessons were to teach me to communicate clearly with my dog. Rick responded to my calls for extra help right away, and put in extra time to make sure I wasnt messing up everything he had already taught my dog. Bingo was always thrilled to see him, and the behavior issues I was concerned about (tendency towards bossiness and snappiness) diminished immediately when I understood our familys role in the problem. Watching Rick work with dogs is incredible, and I look forward to more advanced owner obedience training.
A lifetime gift of a calm and obedient dog!!Our family started our 2-month-old lab with Puppy Education followed by Obedience Training at 6 months. Rick provided the tools and step-by-step approach for us to be loving, relaxed, consistent and fair to our dog. He shifted our perspective and taught us to understand how a dog perceives our actions, words and emotions.Luna is calm, well behaved and eager to please. She is a pleasure to bring to parks, take on walks and introduce to new people and dogs. Thank you, Rick.
Amazing experience. Rick was extremely knowledgable about dogs in general and about the relationship between dogs and humans. He was very approachable and clear in his directions which resulted in immediate improvement for me and my dog. Is it expensive, perhaps, but is it worth every penny ABSOLUTELY. Fawn, my 1 year old mutt, was my first dog ever. I spent hours online reading on how to properly train your dog. I thought I was doing everything right except my dog wasnt listening and pulling his leash so hard I could barely take him on a walk. After the first day with Rick, Fawn was a new dog. Rick helped me develop a real relationship with my dog. I can honestly say now that I believe Fawn loves and respects me and I love and respect him.
It is hard to find words to describe the positive transformation in my dog and me! Rick is a talented trainer that teaches handlers fair and firm strategies in training. Beyond that he helped me understand my own limitations that interfere with the owner/dog relationship, and exactly what I could do to improve that. I am amazed at the results we have experienced and Rick has taught me how I can continue to build on that.
We cannot thank Rick enough for what he has helped us accomplish with our dog Gemma. We started with a smart dog, who just didnt have a lot of confidence. We now have a dog full of confidence and understands the expectations that she has in our home, outside, and her workplace. Our dog has always been high energy and while we love the energy, we havent been able to harness it . Gemma is a therapy dog in a school district and in the few weeks with Rick, she has transformed into our perfect dog. THANK YOU RICK! We are so glad we brought her to you, and we will absolutely be using Rick in the future.
We believe RICK is VERY GIFTED and worth every penny! My husband and I brought our 10 year old yorkie and our 8 month old Bernadoodle for training. He taught US and worked miracles within a short amount of time. I have already referred several friends and will continue to do so.
I had the privilege to bring my Cane Corso, Matteo, for obedience training with Masters Way (You can see his video on YouTube). When I first met Rick it was intimidating (And I mean that in the best way possible). He is a man who carries himself with absolute confidence and is sure of every move he makes. And his dogs respond to his confindence in a way that you have never seen before. If you dont believe me then watch a few of his videos.....Its even more impressive in person. You will not find anyone that can not only train your dog, but understand them better than Rick. Listen to him carefully and practice what he preaches because if you dont your missing out on an opportunity of a lifetime. Your dog will be trained and even better, you and your dog will be closer than you thought possible. Remember, it only takes Rick a few hours to train your dog, it takes him 5 weeks to train you. Thanks for everything Rick!John & Matteo
Rick is a remarkable dog trainer. My wife and I both went through his dog training program and feel that it made a world of difference in our lives and that of our 8 month old Bernadoodle and 10 year old Yorky.
First off i just want to thank Rick for apriceless experience. Our training isnt even over and my 3 year old blue brindle pitbull is a different dog. I came to Rick because i havetwo young girls and wanted to learn how to train my dog so i didnt have to worry about either of my kids getting hurt. We love leo as another part of our family. Right in the beginning Rick brought out Leos confidence and my confidence that i hired the right guy on the first try. With practice and effort were changing as a whole. Less stress and anxiety in the home is creating a better dog. I just want to say thank you to Rick, and to anyone with a dog, even if you think theyre perfect they can be better with a little training.
I took Rick up on his free consultation and he immediately told me why my dog was behaving the way he was. I decided to o the training and it completely changed my dogs behavior from leash pulling constantly, jumping and overall nervousness into a calm, attentive pup. I learned how to understand why my dog was acting a certain way and taught how to correct it. 10/10 would recommend.
Id like to start out the new year by thanking Rick Schubert of Masters Way for his expert advise and training of our two Akita puppies, Kuma and Thor. Rick had their basic training done in one day and then worked patiently with us to produce excellent results. We highly recommend Rick and his training methods to anyone seeking to improve their dogs behavior and make them a better well rounded pet.
Ive had a Shepherd/Akita mix for 10 years now and thought that I knew exactly how to interact and train our newest Shepherd/Akita (Tango) from the same family. It turned out that he was completely different. He was not a confident dog and was extremely shy towards all people. We got Tango at 8 weeks from the same friend that gave us our first dog and nothing happened to make him afraid of humans. It turns out he was just a very shy dog that wasnt socialized enough as a pup. This made him aggressive towards people and children. He quickly learned that if he barked and growled at people they would leave him alone. This was very embarrassing for us and dangerous because we didnt know if he would actually hurt somebody.Rick taught us how to change Tango’s behavior by using the right commands, us taking on a leadership roll in the pack and giving Tango work so he can feel accomplished. The training with Rick was once a week for about two months as well as every day for us at home. There were noticeable changes in Tango’s behavior after just a few weeks. We finished are training with Rick and continue to train Tango ourselves every day. Our friends and family tell us how much better he has become. He is starting to warm up to new people entering our house now that he knows were in charge and they pose no threat.Rick gave Tango a purpose, a more suitable place in the pack and taught us how to act around him in order for him to respect us as the pack leaders. He is a much more well behaved dog now. We enjoy spending as much time as we can with Tango and Rick made him a happier, healthier dog.
So my experience with Rick was a little different then many here. He was highly recommended by a few people in the area I had met at the dog park.Unfortunately for me and my hound things didnt go as well as I had hoped. I was at fault for not asking more questions about the collar he uses how to use it, when to leave on and take off.etc. The first few lessons I tried to ask questions and bring up my concerns but I was told repeatedly nothing I asked would matter as long as I did what he said. Also I was told anything I had to ask didnt matter. I had no idea I should be leaving it on and off during the day so that my girl learned corrections were from me not the collar. My dogs throat and skin was rubbed very raw.!!! When I tried to ask about it I was told shes a thin skinned dog. to be clear the irritation was from the chain part of the collar and her loose skin on her throat constantly getting caught in it. also our new little puppy pulling on the collar chain. While walking her she would pull against it no matter what I did at hotel when she was around other dogs. she had been bit by one where we stay and was very anxious, something I tried to explain to Rick. Each lesson we scheduled I would debate whether to go back or not. I was very uncomfortable but I saw such good results from others. Sadly I would loose focus due to the too many relationship analogies and comparisons he gave. wish he spent more time talking about dogs then people.. I am sure Rick thinks we did not practice but due to our situation and being here only a short time I had to find places to work with her and believe me I honestly did on my days off and for a few minutes each night after work. Our last lesson we ended after a few minutes because every word out of his mouth was what I couldnt do with my dog........ Sadly my one big concern and the reason I was there was never addressed. Please ask questions of any dog trainer you use and make sure you observe how they train not just their dogs. Just a fair warning watch out for Rick and his apple throwing as a way to train the owner........he actually hit me with one of them on the back shoulder
Just completed a five week training course with my seven month old wirehaired pointing griffon. Rick is am excellent trainer that teaches you how to work with your dog and build a relationship that makes obedience come easy. He uses a very different method than anything else I read or watched online or on tv. No treats and no harsh punishment either. Dont waste your time with any other type of training. Now my Roo is so much more enjoyable with the family both inside and outdoors.
Rick is the best ! He is patient, passionate, and determined to help you build an honest trusting relationship with your dog. He has an instinctual energy with dogs. Watch his YouTube videos - and you will be amazed. To say he may even be one of the best in the world isnt a stretch.
The first thing we do when we adopt a new dog is bring them to Rick Schubert - he builds confidence in both the dog and the owner, which creates peace in the household and makes walking my dogs so much more enjoyable. His training is worth every penny!
My 12 month German Shepherd had leash aggression. In one day I had an obedient dog. Rick then trained his human ♥️ I highly recommend.
I recently brought my 18 weeks old purebred Labrador to Rick for training because I had heard about him years ago.I like how he teaches you to be a part of each others thinking. We spent half the first session training me I think. (LOL) Its amazing how many things I though were right for years actually seem confusing to dogs.In 10 Minutes he taught her a for things right off the bat.He also showed me his dogs, who seemed very confident, and were amazing. He says that what you get when you learn to respect each other.I cant wait to go back for her finishing touches. He does king of tell you to be quiet, which can be hard to hear, but I would do anything this guy(Dog training wise) told me after speaking with him.I also liked he doesnt use shock collar methods, etc. but gets you to understand each other. Five Stars Here!!
If you want your dog trained properly, Rick is the man to see! He is firm and fair with both the dog AND owner. The end results are worth every penny. Highly recommended.
It was amazing watching Rick work with my dog. My dog never listened to me but with Rick my dog was perfect with Rick’s training. It was about teaching me more than the dog though. Nothing was wrong with the dog it was about fixing myself to communicate with my dog better. I’m so happy going to Rick for training he’s worth every penny!
Rick taught me so much so I could become confident with my dog,Bobo. As a result,Bobo is behaves so much better and really wants to please me.I am so grateful to Rick! His knowledge and expertise is amazing. He’s worth every penny!Dont waste your time or money with anyone else!Rick is the best!
It has been months since I left a review. We are currently on vacation and cannot stop the positive reactions to our well behaved dog as we window shop through town. Thank you again, Rick. Lifelong rewards. Louis is impressed to the fullest.
Rick is very compassionate with what he does and truly cares for the dog. He teaches the owner how to properly work with their dog.
I have known Rick for many years. His knowledge is priceless. I have been working with animals myself for over 25 years and I never referred to anyone but him.
Our dog was a new dog from the first day! Rick is so patient with the dogs and will work with you to make sure you are doing everything right. This was more than I could have hoped for!
If you’re looking to train your dog, I couldn’t recommend Mastersway Dog Training more.We recently rescued a dog who was in the shelter for 3 years. He is a good dog, but needed to work on a few behaviors. The moment, Rick, the trainer told me that our dog would find peace with his training, I knew it was what I had to do.Training began yesterday, and our dog is a completely different one (in the best way possible).Rick trains the dog, but also educates the owners.I can’t say enough great things about him, or his business. It’s truly been an elightening experience.
I did a lot of research trying to find a trainer who could help me with the issues I need help fixing (jumping, leash walking, etc.). I found Ricks website, and researched videos of his dogs, and how well they behaved. Something inside me kept telling me that Masters Way was THE WAY. I truly believe God blessed Rick with the ability to understand Dogs and how to teach you to be the Master your dog is looking for. Rick can show you how to bring the absolute best out of the relationship you have with your dog. One on one attention, no treats, no shock collars, no scare tactics. Just proper communication. The jumping problem I was experiencing was solved in the first lesson! Leash waking is so much more enjoyable now. Rick has given me and my dog so much more confidence in each other. He proved to us that through proper communication, we can do just about anything together. I would never look anywhere else for advice on how to communicate with my pup. The abundance of positive reviews convinced me to give Rick a try. I couldnt be happier with the results I received.
I was recommended this trainer by my vet and also a friend who has had multiple dogs trained there. There are no naughty dogs, but lots of naughty, untrained owners. Don’t be one of them. It’s more difficult than you think.
He not just trains the dog but the owner as well, its a great place for your dog to learn discipline.
We were looking for someone to train Louie, our 18 month old pit bull, and in asking around, we kept hearing about Masters Way, and more specifically, Rick.To say that Rick knows how to train dogs (perhaps more specifically how to train dog owners) would be like saying Van Gogh knows how to paint. Rick has a transcendant understanding of dogs and how to work with them. It is mind boggling. You will be amazed at the results you get with him and how quickly it all happens.Rick will let you know what you need to do to get results. Of course, the more you work with your dog between lessons, the more you will get out of if. And, because he cares about the dog, he will require you to be dialed in during a lesson. If you had a teacher in high school or a coach who had a direct but extremely effective style, that is what Rick is like.I found Rick to be VERY agreeable, and I enjoyed talking with him, and I am grateful to him for opening my eyes to what dog ownership can be like.I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Rick in my estimation is the best trainer I know of.My giant schnauzer was very aggressive but after about six lessons with Rick the transformation is just unbelievable.Risk is extremely knowledgeable and professional and really cares for you and your dog .I would recommend him to anyone that wants their dog trained well.Thank you Rick your the best !
Truly a wonderful experience learning about a dog thinks and how to be a leader our dog can look to in any situation.
Rick is one of the BEST dog trainers in the world. I say this with all sincerity (and have seen his gigantic trophies). He has to live somewhere and we are lucky enough to have him live here.I love that he doesnt use treats. It is very straight forward and simple, once you get the hang of it. And the results are FAST - if you are consistent and put the work into it.His training is for both you and the dog, so be prepared to work. Rick can be tough, but if you are humble enough to listen to him, and keep working to become better, it will be life changing for you and your dog. I promise. When I have talked to people about Ricks lesson process, some have been hesitant about leaving their dog for the day. They wonder what he does to the dogs that creates such a dramatic change so quickly. They worry that he hurts the dogs.Let me tell you, he does NOT hurt the dogs. He gets upset if a dogs collar is even pulled unfairly during lessons. My dog would always get SO EXCITED to go to Ricks. That doesnt happen if Rick were mean.If you want serious results and a great dog, go to Rick. We have been extremely happy with our decision - and so has our pooch.
I have had dogs my whole life thought I knew what I was doing thought I trained my dogs well Rick opened my eyes to a whole new experience instead of teaching them our language he showed me how to speak theirs. It has been a great experience wouldnt trade it for anything even added another dog to the pack. No bribes no domination or expensive equipment just awesome thanks Rick
Rick is simply amazing! His training methods are based on love for the dog, not treats or discipline like other trainers. The results of training with Rick are amazing and I highly recommend him to anyone.
I procrastinated and used several other trainers before calling Masters Way. That was a mistake. I should have contacted Rick immediately after we rescued Comet. But, with Ricks guidance and input, Comet made dramatic improvement and now enjoys a normal family life.Rick helped me turn Comet from a fearful, isolated, and badly behaved dog into a playful, loving, and respectful pet.I highly recommend Masters Way if you are willing to put the time and effort into achieving your goals with your dog.
When looking for a dog trainer I was in an extreme rush and was looking for a quick fix. I am glad I came across Rick Shuberts Masters Way Training site and spoke with him on the phone for nearly an hour because he made me realize that there is NO quick fix. Rick showed my dog Patch and I that the change had to come from within the BOTH of us. It wasnt just my dog who had to change, it was me and my boyfriend who had to change our behavior, mannerisms, language, and body language. Our dog, a normally friendly dog, had bit a complete stranger and thankfully this man chose not to press charges of any kind but we realized we needed help quick. Rick taught Patch and I the right way to approach stressful situations and every day normal scenarios. I am forever in debt to Rick for the work hes done for our dog and our little family. If you are looking for a productive and successful dog trainer, I urge you to call Rick - just be ready to admit your own faults and be ready to change your own life- not just your dogs!
We had a consultation today and I was very impressed with the knowledge and advise that they gave us. I would recommend giving them a try.
