Hillside Standard Poodles

Working with Rachel was the best experience we could have asked for. She helped us identify the ideal standard poodle puppy for us based on the size, color, and temperament we had in mind (we got a small red boy). We paid for additional training that included basic commands, crate training, and exposure to louder noises since we live in NYC. And because we already had a small dog at home, Rachel thoughtfully got the puppy accustomed to spending time with a small dog of hers.We instantly fell in love with our puppy when we went to pick him up. It’s worth noting that the house / facility where the dogs are raised appears very humane, spacious, and clean. She clearly is an ethical breeder who treats the dogs well.Our puppy had a challenging adjustment period when he arrived in NYC. Rachel was very patient and readily available by phone to provide advice for easing the transition, and even offered to take the puppy back and allow us to try another if we didn’t get past the transition. That ultimately wasn’t necessary as our puppy settled in well have a few days, but it was reassuring to know she had our back and was willing to work with us.It’s been several months since we got our puppy, and he is just the sweetest dog we could have asked for. He’s smart, mild-mannered, gentle with animals and people, and he is just gorgeous. People constantly stop us on walks to ask about him or even take pictures of him.Overall, Rachel is a highly ethical breeder who stands by her puppies and makes every effort to ensure a great match with new owners. I had a fantastic experience with Hillside and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new furry family member. Rachael and her family took the time to introduce us to a couple of puppies and answered questions allowing us to decide which one was the right fit for us. Throughout the process her communication was excellent she kept us up to date on the puppies and sent us home with a robust package of all the details one needs to know about having a new puppy and gave great advice when I had some questions. It’s evident Rachael takes care of her puppies and knows what she is doing since our puppy is well tempered and healthy. We had some digestive issues with our pup Huxley and she took them seriously and helped us transition to an alternative food. Plus the bonus is that all her pups are extremely cute and lovable. We contacted hillside standard poodles after reading some excellent reviews on google. We were in contact with Rachel via email for a couple days before we went to look at a couple puppies that were available. Rachel answered all our questions and was honest about each puppy, truly trying to link us with a perfect match! When we arrived Rachel and her husband welcomed us into their home. When I say we were there for hours, we were there for HOURS. Not because we couldn’t find a puppy, we knew within 5 minutes which girl was right for us, but because Rachel and her family didn’t rush us. They answered all our questions and showed us around the property letting us meet all of their poodles (who were all meticulously taken care of and gorgeous). They chatted with us and offered us drinks and snacks. They were kind, knowledgeable and patient. We celebrated our girls 1st birthday last week. She is the best dog I’ve even know. She is so smart, loyal, friendly. She has the perfect temperament! She has just enough sass to keep everyone around her laughing. I love my Hillside poodle! He is titled in UKI and CPE agility, Barn Hunt and AKC Fit Dog. We also do obedience, frisbee, scent work and field retrieving for fun. Rachel Sann is a top notch breeder and everything about the puppy buying experience was wonderful. We picked him up directly from Hillside, which is a beautiful property. All the dogs were happy, healthy and well kept. I would 100% recommend Hillside for high quality, responsibly bred standard poodles.

We were so lucky to find Rachel at Hillside Standard poodles last year. She was so accommodating and wonderful to work with. We were able to bring our kids to see which puppy would work best with our family and we ended up taking Winnie home. It’s been almost a year and we couldn’t be happier. She’s such a sweet girl!

My husband and I thought about bringing a second Standard Poodle into our home but we wanted to make sure we got the right fit for our 6 year old Standard. After researching many breeders we got in touch with Rachel at Hillside who helped us find the perfect match.Rachel was patient and very knowledgeable and spoke on the phone with me for as long as I needed. We arranged to bring our dog with us and when we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Rachel, her husband Mel and Savana, one of her daughters. The facility is beautiful and clean and we were able to meet some of their amazing dogs.And then we met our Raven, an older puppy and it was love at first sight.Raven is a wonderful addition to our life, She loves dogs, people, kids - she is athletic and smart and loving and fun and beautiful.All a testament to the care she received from Rachel and her family. We drove 6 hours to pick up our newest addition & we were NOT disappointed. Rachel was great at communicating and accommodating our need for a Sunday pickup. For every one bad review, there are many, many, positive reviews.With that said, Rachael and her family are wonderful people. Not only are they honest, they are caring and LOVE what they do!We are on our second standard poodle 🐩 from Hillside. Rachael responds in a timely manner and she’s always extremely professional and kind. She makes herself available for questions and she definitely loves talking poodle 🐩.Our poodles have been extremely well tempered, smart, healthy and just gorgeous. We here in Rhode Island are absolute supporters of Hillside and we will spread the good word. This world is so quick to judge. My husband and I purchased a beautiful red standard poodle off Rachael and Mel seven years ago. She is just a wonderful fur kid with the sweetest personality. We were so fortunate to find them. They are breeders who are extremely knowledgeable about the breed and the dogs are raised in a caring and loving environment. I have referred several friends and family members to them. I only wish I go to their lovely home and play with the puppies every day.

Just got a puppy from Rachael! We had the Best Experience! You can definitely tell the whole family cares for the adult dogs and puppy’s. We left with so much advice on how to help acclimate our puppy with our 3 year old dog at home. Definitely recommend!

Hillside poodles is across the road from me. She raises some beautiful show quality dogs. I am a breeder of toy poodles and hillside has given me advice at times and although i dont know her very well the owner is a nice lady and knows her dogs very well

Things I wish I had known before contacting this “breeder” in hopes of helping someone elseDon’t ask too many questionsDon’t assume you are buying locallyDon’t ask for the veteran discount they offer until you’re writing the checkAfter speaking with Rachael and deciding on a puppy I informed her I am an Iraq war veteran who would benefit from having a service dog and would like to take advantage of the 10% discount they offer. The very next day I received a phone call from Rachael clearly trying to talk me out of buying one of her dogs simply because I was asking too many questions. After I confirmed that I do want to move forward with the deposit and asked for a pick up date, she let it slip that the puppies are in Texas. When I responded, “Texas? She abruptly ended the conversation by saying, I don’t think this is going to work, you are too skeptical.This is a $2,500, twelve to fifteen year investment. Of course I’m going to ask questions and any good breeder would understand that. I believe Rachael took such offense because she didn’t have the answers, maybe because she’s not actually a breeder, but a broker.Throughout our interaction Rachael was vague and dismissive via text. We did speak on the phone twice. It was during our last conversation, after a week of communicating, I find out that the puppy I’m planning on buying is actually in Texas and going to be transported to New York. So I wasn’t even going to be buying locally like I thought. Something customers would be interested in knowing and breeders should be up front about.My husband and I were extremely excited as we have suffered great losses this year. Rachael had an opportunity to make someones life better as this puppy would have been a welcomed addition to our family. Instead she chose to take that opportunity away from us which has us very disappointed. The fact that she treated a combat veteran this way, two days before Veterans Day, during this isolating COVID-19 pandemic just shows that she has no patience, a lack of compassion for other people and is unbelievably selfish.

Our family needed a special dog that needed to fill many requirements it took some time but after getting to know me and what my family needed Rachel found me the just right perfect puppy. He is 9 months now and just wonderful.Rachel is amazing and she went out of her way for me. Thank you Rachel.

So recently my therapist recommended that I get an emotional support dog. I am super excited by this prospect and regaining stability in my life.Upon calling the breeder and asking a number of questions because of the considerable financial investment ($2500) and as any purchaser should have for a breeder, I was met with suspicion. The owner made the conversation uncomfortable and accused me of being a breeder. As a person that genuinely needs an emotional support animal, I was very disappointed that I was met with such unprofessionalism. While I was initially pleased with the conversation, and the requirements that she has for a purchaser to ensure the well-being of the dog, the turn of the conversation when I was asking about meeting the parents of the dog and accused of being a breeder and not someone genuinely interested in an ESA disappointed me to the point where I am not interested in purchasing from this breeder. Her unprofessionalism and lack of courtesy was triggering. I hope that the breeder corrects this unprofessional and uncourteous behaviors because these dogs at the end of the day deserve a loving home and family.

I honestly can not say enough good things about hillside poodles! They are kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and super patient.They genuinely care about what they do and want to make sure the puppies go to loving homes!

After losing my Standard Poodle, Spirit, almost 2 yrs ago I began the search for a new family member. After narrowing it down to the breed, I began my kennel research. I read reviews from people about Hillside and was impressed by their comments. I called and emailed Rachel and she got back to me. I gave her information about myself, and we talked about her breeding program, dogs she had available and what she felt might be a good match for me. I was so impressed with her knowledge and understanding, but also her willingness to take the time to answer my questions. I will definitely look to adopt a dog from Hillside and feel confident to recommend them to friends.

Judging by their website, it looks like this kennel breeds quality standard poodles and to the AKC standard (no parti colors, no doodles). I will certainly keep them in mind when I look to purchase my next AKC or CKC standard poodle.

YES YES YES!!! My husband and I recently adopted our newest family member from Hillside Standard Poodles, and we could not be more thrilled! As first time poodle owners, we were led through the process seamlessly by Rachel. When we arrived to pick up our boy (Adam!) we were greeted by a warm and inviting family who clearly has a passion for what they do. We have only had Adam for about 6 days, and he is already potty trained outside, can sit on command, and give you his paw! He is the sweetest, most gentle, and lovable dog imaginable, and he also gets along so well with our other dog. We already love him so much, and cannot wait to experience our new lives with him by our side! Hillside is the place to go 100%! Not just because their dogs are absolutely stunning, but also because their lives begin in such a loving home.
