Doggie U K9 Academy

Doggie U K-9 Academy is an awesome place where my dog, who is fearful, has been able to flourish. We have done obedience, rally, leash walking, and canine good citizen classes before getting into agility for the last few years. I can say nothing but the best about the kind and caring instructors as well as the people I’ve met here. It’s a great place to bond with your dog. And my dog is well behaved due to all I’ve learned here. I highly recommend it!

My dog loves his agility courses here! Our instructor is no non-sense, but its obviously in the support of the dogs and their safety. We drive all the way from Brooklyn to make sure Atlas is getting the best out of his classes. They have competition size equipment and give special attention to each dog. I wish I lived closer, I would go to more classes!

We absolutely love coming here. We started doing foundational Agility training with Logan. She is AMAZING and makes it so much fun. Our dog had severe separation anxiety and we felt that if we gave him a job in the house that would help. I have experience training previous dogs of mine but Eddie here needs much more mental and physical work. He has grown so much thanks to Doggie U. We compete in some of the smaller things they host like Happy Ratters. We have moved up into Paulas beginner class and he continues to gain confidence. The instructors love what they do and help you have fun and bond with your dog. You can always come down to one of their open houses to try it and see if it is for you and your dog. Logan has even done lessons with my children and our dog. Fun for the whole family :)

The Beginner Obedience class I attended in no way matched the description given on the web site. The classes I attended were geared towards agility showing- not even close to what I was looking for with my puppy. Big waste of $ for me (and time).FOLLOW UPMultiple times I brought my puppy concerns (pulling, lunging) during the classes to the instructor- specifically asking for specific help/instruction. Perhaps 30 seconds of time at most was spent discussing with no direct practicing skills being provided.This class description (copied from your web site) needs to be revised as most of what is stated was not covered during the 6 classes I attended:Beginning Obedience the class will help develop your dog’s self confidence and enable them to work under various distractions. Each 45 minute class will help develop a strong working and relationship bond between you and your dog. We will build upon the Basic Obedience commands (sit, down, stay, come, etc) and help you develop the dog’s attention skills. We will work on special issue, such as pulling, lunging, barking, etc.

If you are looking to get into agility courses that are beginner friendly then this is not the place for you. Their beginner agility course was very confusing, and as an adult learner it was hard to follow along as someone with no dog sport experience. The facility is nice and they have tons of equipment but definitely would suggest looking into other places if you’d like to learn more about dog sports at an introductory level. If you have equipment at home, and have some experience then I’m sure you would have a far more positive experience than I did!!

I first came across this place for agility with my mini Aussie years ago and am now coming back with my very hyper lab mix. The agility classes are very fun classes, which allow each and every dog time to work through the obstacles they find trickier. Handlers and their dogs are not given a ‘set time’ to work through the obstacles because it really depends on what every dog seems to be struggling with. However, every dog has time to work through the course a minimum of 4 times. My dog was a rescue that struggled greatly with her confidence, but she has always shown an affinity for jumping, running and sports. I originally signed her up to help her have a positive outlet for all her energy and build up her confidence. After every class, I see so much progression and confidence in her. I’m so happy I decided to come back with another dog. Would highly recommend DoggieU.

Ive been taking my dog here for the past couple months. Not only have I been learning a lot but my dog seems to really enjoy it. You are getting lessons from one of the best.

I took my adult GSD and our Rottweiler here and it was wonderful! Very confident, kind, organized program with friendly people. Both of our dogs and we benefited immensely!

Doggy u is a great place to train your pup, It is respectively, priced I find the staff to be very courteous and professional. The trainers have many many years of experience and it shows in their training .what I like most about the place is they care and respect for my pup even though he’s a wild maniac, and I’ve noticed the big difference in his personality since we’ve been going there I look forward to taking My Boy there, and I recommend a place highly.

Ive been taking my dog here for many years now. Weve done obedience classes and were currently on our second year of agility. Definitely would recommend this place too new folks that want to grow with their pet. They have lots to offer so check out their site!

I took my dog to Doggie U for agility training for over 5 years. During that time, Terri was an amazing and patient trainer who adjusted to my dogs needs as she aged and her abilities changed. We learned so much and created an even stronger bond. Doggie U offers so much whether it is competitive, or just for fun, like I chose to do. When my dog passed away, both Terri and the owner, Rolissa, personally called me to send their condolences.

Great experience. Facility is very nice. Clean and well thought out Plenty of free parking. Clean. Owner has years of experience with dog obedience and training. My dog learned agility and loved it! Wonderful programs. Wonderful staff it is the BEST PLACE. My dog loves it. She can get exercise and treats!o. II am glad I found DOGGIE U and they offer OBEDIENCE and other classes. I will be back.

I have been taking my dogs to DoggieU since 2014. The facility is great, so are the instructors. Classes in obedience, agility, rally, conformation are offered. Weekends are usually filled with competitions in obedience, conformation, agility, rally, speedway, happy ratters, Ive probably left something out. Currently I have four dogs taking classes in obedience and agility. My dogs love it there. Private lessons and ring rentals are also available. I am there at least 3 days per week. Obviously, I love it there too.

Excellent facility & knowledgeable staff! Doggie U is a home away from home for me and my dog. Doggie U is our family and we love the variety of classes & programs it has to offer!

I love the training at Doggie U K9 Academy. I took my boy early on and recently went back to train again. I like being involved in the training & having someone professional there to guide me. The classes are very reasonable and they work with you on whatever it is that you may end up needing help with. You have to be patient and you will see the positive outcome in the end. I also love that you can choose to continue taking the classes as many times as you want. And you can take agility classes. They are amazing here! Thank you for all that you do! 💙🐾

Doggie U is a unique facility that offers excellent training by serious, long-term dog sport competitors, people with decades of experience . Conformation, rally, agility, obedience (both basic and competitive) are taught by trainers who have all competed and earned advanced titles. They also have several basic classes for total beginners.They know dogs.Another benefit is that the facility is large enough to host competitive events. There are trials throughout the year. Many of the students are also high-level competitors, and beginners can learn a lot just by watching and asking questions.Ring rentals, in which you can practice on your own, are reasonably priced and you can book by the hour or half hour.The trainers take great interest—and joy—in seeing their students succeed. You have a built-in cheering squad. I see the comments saying that the people are not warm and fuzzy, but dog people generally have a reputation for being a bit crusty. Theyre dog trainers, not politicians. What matters to me is that they get results.This year trainer Teri N. helped me and my Emily earn a title that I never dreamed we would achieve. At the next class, Teri and my classmates (who have all become friends) surprised us with a cake, flowers, and a little celebration. Thats plenty warm and fuzzy for me. I love this place.

I can not say enough good things about Doggie U! We have been coming to this facility for 6 years now taking classes in breed handling, agility and obedience. The instructors are great and they offer so many different classes so you can start with your dog at a beginner level and go all the way to advanced. Not only can you train here but you can also compete here as well because they hold trials here on the wekends.

I’m very glad we found Doggie U K9 Academy. They’re a top notch go to facility for all things canine, from basic home training to preparing for national AKC competitions.I originally started with Doggie U over a year ago for basic obedience classes and to investigate what dog agility training was all about. It looked hella fun and like a great way to build a special bond with your canine companion. I have a little schipperke, Storm, a dog many professionals told me is ‘off breed’ when it comes to performance sports and obedience. More specifically, one much awarded 40-year veteran trainer elaborated, ‘You don’t have a border collie, golden, sheltie or any other breed known for agility/rally/obedience prowess. What you’re dealing with is one step away from a wild animal.’ Other comments compared training schipperkes to ‘herding cats,’ ‘a losing battle,’ and simply ‘oh honey, bless your heart.’Right from the start of working with Rolissa Nash, the creator of Doggie U and a legendary trainer who in her words says ‘I’ve been doing agility since agility started,’ I was surprised by how naturally talented Storm was on the agility obstacles; however, I also experienced the frustration of what everyone else said. Schipps are known to be as extremely loyal and intelligent (great things!) as they are impulsive, defiant and easily distracted (terrible things!). Storm could do a perfect recall one time and run outta the ring the next. We’d have a stellar multi obstacle agility run and then she’d do uncontrollable zoomies, insanely running around the room until caught. We also take Agility classes every week where she has so much fun that she can hardly wait to get there. Doggie U is a great spot on Long Island for dog sports. They always have fun group classes and many competitions on the weekends. They do fun matches for obedience, breed handling and agility as well. My dogs love the footing and the environment. Really great place! We primarily do agility and always have a great time.

I have been going to confirmation handling classes for many, many years. Rolissa is the first teacher that I have met who truly teaches you, and makes sure to show you how to get the most out of your relationship with your dog. I am so happy to have found her. Better late than never!

Wonderful private lesson with Lorissa, prepping us for Novice Obedience trial. She showed me some tricks to get my dog to focus since he was new to the venue. And we got a leg at the trial!

This is a wonderful place to learn how to be a responsible dog owner with a well behaved dog. The facility is amazing and the staff is great. Classes are varied - My dog and I have learned obedience, agility and Therapy Dog skills and have met great friends (both dogs and people) along the way. Highly recommended!

This place is a lot of fun. Everyone is really fun and professional. I took my dog here to get some exercise during the winter months and I got way more than I expected. The trainers (Paula) were excellent and knowledge and I think I had as good of a time as my pup. If you are looking for an activity for your pooch i definitely recommend Doggie U.

Signed up my dog for the basic obedience training. I did not feel it was worth the money or my time. The lady who teaches the Tuesday night class was nice but extremely difficult to hear. Between the spacing because of covid and other classes going on behind the wall it made it almost impossible to hear her instruction. She basically taught basic commands that you can learn in any puppy book. The class never really felt structured. She never gave any insight on a training schedule at home. Never gave any homework either. No handouts or tips for home. Go buy yourself a bunch of training books and save the money

This is a very nice facility with great people and great instructors. This is a place where they can train you to train your dog to be well behaved even if its a pet or if you want to go beyond that and do some competition and some type of venue that is out there in the community

Just finished the 6 week Puppy class with Peggy Rogan. What an excellent experience I had with facilities and the professionalism of Peggy. She truly cares about all of the puppies in her class and also training the owners. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking to train their puppy.

I go here for agility classes on Monday night with Teri & 2 agility classes with Louise on Wednesday nights. I look so forward to those classes & absolutely love running & trialing in agility with my 8 year old Golden Retriever & my 2 1/2 year old Golden Retriever. We have learned so much from our classes & instructors.

You are all AMAZING! Thank you for being true dog lovers and changing our lives for the better. My sisters dog, Brando Rohde attended here when he was a crazy pup. Hes now a licensed Therapy Dog(all done at K9 academy in Bay Shore) and goes to my moms 3rd grade class, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice ..... besides that, he is HANDS DOWN the most loving, best behaved amazing dog. a HUGE THANK YOU TO K9 ACADEMY!!

Instructors are very willing to work with you and your dog to help you get to were you want to be. Are honest that it may take more than one six week session to get there. Price is very competitive.

Thr teachers are effective and make me feel comfortable with the material.

I was signing my dog up to go to this class over the phone with a woman whose name that I cannot remember. The woman had informed me that she would call me later in the week to give me an official start date. I never heard back so I gave them a call today, and first spoke with Kaitlyn. kaitlynn had not a clue in the world what she was talking about but I was patient with her trying to find the information of the start date which she told me was March 16, when I was originally told that the start date would be this upcoming Tuesday. she told me she would call me back with further information when she had spoken to somebody else. About two hours later, I received a call from Judy which left me utterly disgusted. Judy had an attitude with me from the very beginning of the phone call to the point that people around me who heard the call on speaker phone were drawn to attention by her nasty attitude. The entire conversation I was trying to figure out why I was never contacted and why I was told the wrong start date. Judy was talking in circles contradicting herself about the start date, calls being made, and payments. After about five minutes of her nasty attitude I finally said to her that she had an attitude problem and that this is not how customer service works. I explained that I am confused by the situation and the information I was given and she was offering nothing but her nasty attitude. at the end of the conversation I made sure to inform her that I wanted to call back about the classes, not from her, and that I was still interested in taking a class with this company for my dog. however after hanging up I felt so utterly disgusted and confused about what I had just dealt with so I decided to call back to speak to a manager. when I called back I had Kaitlynn back on the phone and after going back-and-forth with her about wanting to speak with a manager and trying to get the managers name, who is actually the owner, but Kaitlynn didn’t even know her name. in this conversation with Kaitlynn she informed me that she knows Judy personally and she overheard the conversation and that Judy didn’t have an attitude and I did that I am the nasty one. I informed her that I didn’t want to know Judy personally and don’t but this is how customer service works she supposed to be polite and not have an attitude problem, and the fact that Kaitlynn put her two sense in telling me that I have an attitude problem is disgusting as well. The fact that this company is so well known and the two girls working the front desk are so utterly rude and unprofessional is absolutely disgusting. I will never recommend this company to any of my friends or family and I will be sure to share this experience with every dog owner that I meet on every social media platform. this is a sad sad excuse for customer service especially in a business where you work with people on a regular basis.

The trainer has her head up way too high. It wasn’t what I was expecting ! I registered for obedience training and I was being taught show room poses.

Was impressed how well run and stocked. They carry top grade training tools for your dog!They even had really well planned Covid plan in place .

So far only have had 1 class (Signed up for a 6wk session) with my pup and it was super. The instructor is lovely, to the point and encouraging.The facility is clean and reception very friendly.12/2022 UPDATE: Still going to Agility classes here weekly since my initial post and we love it!

If you really love your dog you will want to train and play with your dog. I have been going to Doggie U for many years and they provide the best talent to help you train and more alternatives to play and compete with your dog than most anywhere in the NY Metro area.
