Happy Dog is worth every penny. Lori and Ellen are excellent teachers and help you understand your dog so much better. They teach management techniques alongside training, which has been huge for us. The skills we learned in class are easily applicable to daily life and have helped make our dog a pleasure to be around. Ellen and Lori have also made themselves available via email for various questions outside class and have always been helpful. Attached is a photo of our 7 month old Great Dane just chilling at a brewery and not being a psycho because she learned how to be calm around distractions in this class. I would highly recommend Happy Dog to all puppy parents AND owners of adult dogs.
Ellen and the staff at Happy Dog Training are so helpful and professional. The facility is very clean and safety is a priority. The strategies in Family Dog classes were fun and helped us to create a strong bond with our pup. Happy Dog also can help with the Individual needs of family and dogs after class ends. They respond quickly to concerns. Highly recommend Happy Dog Training!
I have been a returning student of happy dog behavior for the past 13 years starting with my first dog Pepe!We especially appreciate the fact that Ellens training techniques are through positive reinforcement and well worth the effort and time you put in to training your pups . I have now trained 4 dogs with Happy Dog Behavior and continually use what Ive learned from the classes on a daily basis . People are always asking how I get my dogs to pose for pictures its not posing its going to Mat and Stay ,dedication andTraining .. A Huge Thank you to Ellen and Lorrie for your Life Changing andValuable service !!!
WONDERFUL dog trainers and training facility - positive reinforcement ONLY! Ive had training in the Karen Pryor method but these guys had fantastic ideas that I had never heard of in training tips & exercises for my 6 mo old puppy for loose leash walking, sit/down stay, leave it, & other essentials. She was in the Family Dog 1 class, so couldnt socialize with the other dogs, but did learn to be calm in their presence & focus on us, & made wonderful progress. As you can see, there is plenty of space between dogs (6 max per class). This was the ONLY place I found on Long Island which had KPA-trained dog trainers so traveled 45 min each way - totally worth it! DO NOT BELIEVE those so-called balanced trainers that punishment is required to train dogs - it IS NOT and just damages your relationship with your dog! They call it correction, but what theyre balancing with positive reinforcement & kindness is punishment. Ellen and Lorrie are amazing!!
Ive been bringing my puppy Stella to this puppy kindergarten training class and its been pretty awesome! Ellen, the trainer, really knows her stuff and makes it all fun and informative. If youve got a puppy, Id totally recommend checking it out! Cant wait to start Family pet 1 in the fall. Great experience for both me and my pup.
Happy Dog Training and Behavior has been amazing! We adopted a 7 month old pup who was sick in her younger formative months so basic training/commands did not come with the pup. After losing my favorite pair of flip flops, my favorite pillow, and a remote control because pup likes to chew, I decided it was time to get some professional help with training our sweet Reeses. I’m SO glad I found Happy Dog. After filling out an initial intake form online, Ellen contacted me same day (on a Sunday) to share her thoughts. She felt Reeses would benefit more from 1:1 training rather than a small class and I agreed with her explanation completely. All communication with Ellen was friendly, helpful, understanding, and timely. As for the training itself, we were so lucky to work with Lorrie. From our consultation session to our last training session, Lorrie was the best. She was so understanding and patient with us and I always learned so much from each session. I’m personally not the best learner but Lorrie was patient with me too and took the time to re-explain or demonstrate something I maybe didn’t pick up on the first time lol. The notes we received after every session have been super helpful in doing our training at home and always has recommendations for videos, toys, etc. that she thought would help with some of the behaviors Reeses was showing. Really amazing, if you’re hesitating at all about using Happy Dog, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you so much!!!! Pics of Reeses from her graduation class (she was valedictorian) 🙂
Happy Dog Training has made me a puppy wrangling expert! They teach behaviors that make for a better dog-human relationship. Sure, tricks are part of it, but the behaviors are more important. For example, is you dog’s natural inclination to run around chaotically like most puppies? Look no further - Happy Dog helps you and your dog work together to build a calmer demeanor. They also teach leash-walking - that was a hard one for us, we needed the right training as humans to get the right behavior from the dog. Classes are quick and fun. Lorrie and Ellen are fantastic. Our family is so grateful we found the right people to help our pup succeed!
We wanted an alternative to pet store training for our nervous rescue puppy and found Happy Dog through word of mouth. Pet store training seemed way too distracting and we liked that Happy Dog is limited to 6 puppies per class. Happy Dog also offers personal support for special issues and is always fast to respond to my emails with worries/questions about my puppys behavior. Our 3-month old adopted border collie came out of her shell at the second class and has learned so much. The tips and tricks are priceless (literally gamechangers for daily living) and the best part of her progress so far is remaining calm and focused on us when other dogs are around. She loves other dogs so this is key. Pictured is our pup being calm and checking in with me while being barked and stared at by 2 fully grown, out of control golden retrievers at an bar patio. So proud of our puppy and the progress shes made with Ellens guidance. 10/10 recommend. The only thing I wish we did was pick an earlier class time so we could stick closer to our regular routine.
We attended Ellen’s Puppy Kindergarten at Happy Dog and were excited for each week’s class. Ellen is a +R, science-based dog trainer and has a wealth of experience. Each session is jam packed with lessons to learn and skills to hone. Journee especially loved puppy play time! It was so much fun! Thanks Ellen!
In October we added a new furry family member. This is not our first dog, but it is our first time attending a formal training class (Puppy Kindergarten) and I cant recommend Happy Dog Training enough! Our new puppy Riley is already more trained than our three year old dog is! Ellen gave us the skills to set boundaries and to raise a great family dog. We would absolutely return to Happy Dog Training when we add a new dog in the future and even plan on returning for more classes with our puppy so she can learn and grow even more! Thanks Ellen!
We have now trained 3 dogs with Ellen and Lorrie at Happy Dog and I could not recommend them more! Their patience, knowledge and instruction go above and beyond mere housebreaking and leash walking! Every dog deserves one of their classes and every human needs at least one as well!!! Enjoy your best life with your dog by taking a class at Happy Dog!!!!
I have taken both of my dogs to Happy Dog Training over the past 5 years. We have done a variety of classes (Puppy Kindergarten, Family Dog 1, Beyond the Backyard, Loose Leash Walking, Rocket Recalls) and have had a great experience with all of them. Their training style is all about positive reinforcement and it has been very effective with both of my dogs. I believe that this type of training has taught my dogs how to make good choices on their own - rather than doing something because I told them to or just because they want a treat. Their facility is great too - with plenty of room for the dogs to train without being crowded and too distracted. Ellen and Lorrie are great at tweaking exercises so they meet your dog at her level and are always available to answer questions after class or by email between classes. You can tell they really care about the dogs and want all of their students to succeed!
We had a phenomenal dog training experience. This was the second time taking classes at Happy Dog, we first came with our 3 month old black Labrador. We recently got another lab puppy and while the puppy was well behaved the home dynamics between the puppy and the now almost 2 year old black lab were unbearable, to the point where I was in tears every day and, in spite of being totally in love with the puppy, we were considering the heartbreaking decision of rehoming him. I reached out to Ellen and she listened to my concerns, spent a lot of time on the phone and via email, watching videos of the two of the interact and she assured me that , while challenging, things were not as bad as they appeared. In addition to having the puppy enrolled in the family dog 1, we set up for a private consultation with Lorrie. She gave us a lot of suggestions and strategies to add to our toolbox to make our lives a bit less chaotic and the situation more manageable. While we still have our moments, Things are getting better each day and we have Ellen and Lorrie to thank. Their patience , expertise, and understanding helped us through a very difficult and stressful time and gave us hope that things would get better and many ideas and training tools to make that positive change happen. They are both outstanding and highly knowledgeable dog trainers and true and caring professionals. We are very grateful to them and enthusiastically recommend Happy Dog for all of your dog training and behavioral support needs!!!!
I brought my puppy to Happy Dog Training for Puppy Kindergarten and then Family Dog 1. We have had such an incredible experience. Lorrie and Ellen are so knowledgable and willing to lend their expertise to your individual situation. They always check in about how things are going, and make themselves available to offer help along the way. My dog loved attending classes and would try to run through the parking lot to get to the door every week. Were looking forward to eventually taking Family Dog 2!
I never do public reviews, but after several training classes at Happy Dog Training, I feel compelled to share what a wonderful experience its been.Ive taken several of my dogs over the past 10 years to Happy Dog Training for group classes and an individual session. I cant say enough about how great Ellen and Laurie are to work with. This is by far the best training class Ive taken in my 20+ years of owning dogs. The classes are fun, well thought out, not too large and best of all the training works!I highly recommend Happy Dog Training!
This is an OUTSTANDING training facility, so much so that we have trusted Happy Dog with training two of our dogs!! We first used Happy Dog 7 years ago and the training was so fantastic that when we got a new puppy this year Happy Dog was the only choice for her training. They class sizes are small, with 6 dogs per class, so you get a lot of one-on-one attention and every class opened with a Q&A so we could get advice on anything we needed help with. We could see improvements in our puppys behavior immediately. Ellen is an excellent instructor, very patient and gives you as much guidance and advice as you need. I cant recommend Happy Dog enough :)
Ellen and Lorrie make learning to train your puppy interesting, fun and exciting for both owner and dog! The email communication with them is always fast and reliable. The facility is extremely clean and pleasant. My puppy has made so much progress. I cant wait for the next class.
Ive brought my (now) almost 6 year old, anxious dog here when he was a pup, and have consulted with Ellen for his needs over the years many times. Ellen is knowledgeable, experienced, and more than qualified. His life has improved, and most important, I MYSELF learned how to approach many facets of dog training the right way.Ive also brought my younger pup (now 1) there for puppy training classes. Yes its great to bring your dog to the classes for socialization, but the classes are for US, not the dogs. Once a week for less than an hour isnt going to train any dog. Consistency and patience go a long way, and our little girl is GREAT with any dog she meets, and very social.I recommend Happy Dog to anybody I discuss training with, and they have been and continue to be my first choice for dog training despite a bit of a drive.Best trainers (Ellen and Lorrie both) Ive ever worked with, and I have tried many.
We began bringing our puppy here from the beginning and it has made such a difference! Lorrie and Ellen are always available for advice and are so knowledgeable. Our puppy loves the classes and the training we do at home. We will continue to work our way through the series! Cannot recommend enough
Definitely recommend Happy dog training. We had both trainers Ellen and Lori both were super knowledgeable and friendly and did a great time teaching. Even with a full class you get individual feedback and tips. Our 8 month old puppy has definitely benefited and learned from this class and we can credit his well rounded behavior and social skills from what he learned in class.
Ellen and Laurie are both wonderful! They truly understand dog behavior and make it so easy to follow the steps for successful training. This is our second pup we’ve used for training! We had a wonderful puppy K experience and are excited to start the next round of classes! I highly recommend Happy Dog!
We had a fantastic experience at Happy Dog. We took puppy kindergarten and found the techniques to be extremely helpful for training our pup. Class was fun and our pup absolutely loved going every week. It was a great opportunity for supervised socialization, and they packed a lot of great information and practice into eight weeks. Everything was very organized and we appreciated getting weekly homework printouts to remind us what to work on and what to bring for the next class. I highly recommend Happy Dog, and we are looking forward to going back for Family Dog 1 classes soon!
We had such a terrific experience at Happy Dog Training! When we brought home our new puppy we knew that we wanted to enroll her in formal training, and after a lot of research (and thanks to Google reviews) we settled on Happy Dog Training. From our first phone call with Ellen we could tell that this was going to be a great experience. We enrolled Reese in the 8 week Family Dog 1 class on Saturday afternoons and we left every class feeling like we had learned so much. Lorrie was an amazing instructor and was so knowledgeable and reassuring to us and to all of the other doggie parents in the class. Reese loved coming to class every week, and the lessons and homework really helped to reinforce the skills in an easy and foolproof way for us and in a way that kept Reese engaged and excited to learn. The progress that she made over the 8 weeks was amazing to watch. We hope to continue with some of their specialized classes in the future. Thank you Ellen and Lorrie! -Allison, Dave & Reese DeFilippis
We had a great experience overall at Happy Dog training! We enrolled in the puppy kindergarten class to begin covering puppy basics and get some solid socialization in for our Shiba Inu puppy. Lorrie provided tips and homework that we were able to easily apply to our everyday routine between classes and always gave helpful answers to all of our puppy training questions. Furthermore, Lorrie and Ellen went above and beyond to accommodate us when our puppy injured his leg and wasn’t able to attend the last two classes. They were quick to find a solution and continued to provide helpful tips catered to his specific needs. We greatly appreciated the attention and care we received from them, especially how they’ve continued to follow up on the progress of our little guy.
We could not be happier with Ellen and Lori. We had an initial private session with Lori when we first got our puppy so we could get our bearings with her and we have since taken both Puppy kindergarten and Family Dog 1 with Ellen and we absolutely love her! We looked forward to each class as much as our puppy did (she would seriously jump in her carrier on Wednesday nights because she knew where we were going and was so excited) and we learned so much. Ellen takes time to demonstrate everything, gives you written class take-homes and homework to practice with each week. She is so available to answer any and all questions, responds to email and returns phone calls. We are so sad our classes are over and are working hard on getting our girl ready for Family Dog 2. It was the BEST!!!!
Ellen (The owner) and Lori are the most attentive and thoughtful dog trainers on Long island, no matter what class you sign up for they provide guidance that goes beyond the classes, and truly care and set your dog up for a happy life. Their training method is completely positive. I have a LOUD barky high energy yellow lab mix, who they had the most patience with regardless of if she barked here and there in class for 3 classes we took there! We took Puppy Kindergarten, Family Dog 1, and Now the Tricks class, I couldnt recommend taking your dog here enough. They truly do whats best for all the dogs that come in. Its hard not to compare your dogs to the others in the class but they dont expect perfect dogs, or every dog to be the same, even when you complete the classes, they just bring out the best in every individual dog :) My dog loves coming here!
This place was recommended to me after my cousin went to their dog training class and my sister enrolled her puppy in their puppy class. Ellen and Lorrie are truly amazing. Thoughtful, kind and caring. They are extremely knowledgable and understanding. They help you understand why your dog is practicing their behaviors and they use positive reinforcement for you to develop a good relationship with your dog as well as keep your dog wanting to do those good behaviors. After an initial consultation, we enrolled my dog Olaf in their Dog 1 class. The exercises were easy to learn and practice in a safe environment. The classes helped me understand and anticipate what my dog might do in a real world situation and help us to be successful. All of the exercises we went over focused on behaviors that keep Olaf safe and happy rather than focusing on tricks. After leaving the class, I have had reactivity and anxious behavior issues with my dog, and I reached out for guidance and help. Ellen stayed on the phone with me, answered all my questions, gave me guidance and suggestions, plus materials to work on. She is always available to answer questions via email or phone call, even after the class is done. I would recommend this center over and over again. I am so happy we went and I do see an improvement in my dogs behavior. Thank you Ellen and Lorrie!
My experience with Happy Dog Training and Behavior was wonderful! Ellen, our trainer, provided a safe and fun environment for my dog and I to learn and hone new practical skills. Ellen was able to transform a large amount of information into digestible bites for the layman and in turn we were able to assimilate and put said information into practice. I would recommend their classes to anyone with a dog!
We have taken Family Dog 1 & 2 classes with our Goldendoodle puppy at Happy Dog, and were super satisfied with the outcome. Ellen and her staff are very professional, clearly love dogs, and made the classes fun for the whole family (dog, parents and kids combined). We were new to the world of dogs, and learned so much. The classes at Happy Dog were well worth it!
Happy Dog Training is run by two amazing woman, Laurie and Ellen. Not only are they both incredibly knowledgeable about dog behavior and training but they are excellent at translating that information to their students. What Laurie and Ellen excel at is giving you, the dog parent, the skills to train. They literally teach you how to talk to your dog. Myself and my dad took our mastiff starting at 8 weeks old to Lauries classes, we went every week for 8 months and gosh what an amazing dog we now have, worth every penny and every minute that we spent at Happy Dog. People on the street literally stop me to marvel at how well behaved our Charlie is (our pup). Because of all the time Laurie spent training US and when I say us I mean, me, my dad and Charlie we can now take him anywhere and thats saying a lot as hes 120 pounds at 11 months old.I have two adult dogs as well at home, that had previously had no training, with the skills that we learned in Lauries classes, my dad decided to start training them too. Now we have three perfect pets and a very happy Dad, he loves his new hobby, training pups!We could not be more pleased with our experience at Happy Dog, if I could give them a million stars I would!!! Thank you Laurie and Ellen!!
I highly recommend Happy Dog Training. The classes are carefully structured to cover several aspects of training without overwhelming the dog or the dogs owner. Ellen is extremely patient and kind with all of the dogs (and their owners) and is available to answer questions at any time. She quickly assessed that my dog was a bit tentative when coming into the classroom and gave me great cues and suggestions on making him more comfortable. We made wonderful progress in just 8 and weeks and we are already signed up for the next class with Lorrie.
We brought our cane corso puppy to classes at Happy dog training and had a wonderful experience. Our puppy learned a lot and loved coming to class. It has been 3 months since our last class and Ellen still answers any questions we may have and always gives great advice. We are looking forward to signing Boo up for more classes.
I love Happy Dog Training!! Our puppy Zen came here for family dog classes, and he learned so much in a short span of time. I love how organized everything was from the homework assignments, supply list, and covering things in class without overworking our dogs. I really feel like he got individualized attention and useful stimulation in those weeks he was in classes. Some good skills coming out of it too. I no longer feel anxious about him running away. Loved our trainer - Lorrie is so sweet and really helped anchor our thinking on the behavior we should be paying attention to and his communication style. He definitely still needs work and we need to make time for some more classes from Happy Dog, but I really like the foundation he has built here. Highly recommend this training school for classes!
We have been bringing dogs to Happy Dog Training for over 20 years. They just keep getting better. Ellen and Lorrie are true professionals, extremely knowledgeable as well as caring and sympathetic even answering all my silly questions! I have had rescue mixes as well as purebreds and they have all become lovely, well mannered dogs.
We LOVE and highly recommend Happy Dog Training!!! Weve been taking classes with our pup since bringing him home, and were so thankful for all weve learned. Ellen and Lorrie are amazing trainers, and their methods are all kind and effective. The facility is really nice and class is so much fun! Weve taken Puppy K and Family Dog 1, and look forward to advanced training. At 6 months old, our Golden Retriever boy is incredibly well behaved and wonderful with our two young children - we have Happy Dog Training to thank!!!
We had such a great experience here. They provide you with so many helpful tools and tips whether you’re a first time dog owner or you have had dogs before. It’s a great mix of individual and group time and allows your dog to learn with distractions. I’d highly recommend!
We could not be happier with Ellen’s family dog 1 class! The way she explained everything was so easy to comprehend. She is very knowledgeable and answered questions we had between classes through email. The weekly homeworks were easy to read and helped a ton when we practiced every day. Just remember you have to make time to do the homework at home if you want to see results!!
Ellen and Lorrie are terrific trainers, very experienced, very nice. The facility is immaculate, spacious, safe, setting for dogs and people. As a repeat client, looking forward to continuing training our GS pup!
Ellen is wonderful, organized, so helpful, and everything she teaches is coming from a place of love. She taught us ways to positively reinforce our dog’s behavior and strengthen our bond. We just finished puppy kindergarten and it was such an amazing experience. It helped our whole family get on the same page with training techniques and it was so fun!
We’re currently in our 7th week at Happy Dog and we could not be happier. My pup is a bit on the shy side and Ellen and Lorie really have gone above and beyond in helping him come out of his shell. He’s a Shihtzu so he’s pretty small compared to his classmates, so they went over the other class schedules and invited us for playtime with pups his size the last couple weeks. It brings tears to my eyes how happy I am with his improvement! Yesterday was probably the biggest improvement, he was running around and actually making friends with the other dogs! He’s truly growing into a well behaved confident young dog now and I am so grateful to them. I work in an animal hospital and have been in that field for many years. So I’m familiar with some dog behaviors, but every single week I learn something new in class. At this point I don’t know who’s more excited for class me or the dog 😄.
We had enrolled our puppy for the puppy kindergarten class. It was informative , well spaced out and was great for both us and our puppy.I highly recommend Happy Dogs.We aresigning up for family Dog 1 too.☺️Can’t thank Ellen enough who always responds to various questions that I have over an email even after we graduated.
If you are looking for trainers that specialize in positive reinforcement then this is the place to go!! Ellen and Lorrie are professionals in every sense of the word. Each class is filled with a thoughtful and comprehensive lesson plan - you are even given homework assignments for each week!! The small class sizes allow for personal attention and also give you the opportunity to learn from each other.Currently, I am training my third dog (14 years later) at Happy Dog. I am still amazed at the level of expertise from the trainers. It is obvious that they continue to learn and improve their own skills as the years go on. Thank you Happy Dog for keeping my own dog happy!
It was decades since we had a puppy and with info on the web so overwhelming and conflicting, its been great to have the support and expertise of Ellen and Lorrie from the get-go. I went for New Puppy Consultation with a hundred questions, including plenty about setting up for successful housetraining and sleeping arrangements, and our pup was housetrained with very few accidents (I have a nearly fully bottle of Natures Miracle) and slept thru on his second night home with us. I would have freaked out about his teething/mouthiness without the weekly support of Puppy Kindergarten and other owners dealing with the same phase--AND it was wonderful to have a safe space for the pups to begin to learn to socialize. Were now participating in Family Dog 1, reinforcing lessons from Puppy K and advancing from there. Whenever Ive reached out to Ellen or Lorrie with questions (re neutering, dog parks, how best to travel with the dog, collar vs. harness, veterinarians, etc.), theyve been available, patient and SO informative. Our pup gets lots of compliments on his friendliness and good manners, thanks in large part to his/our early training with Happy Dog, Im certain.
Horrible experience for my husband and our 5-month old puppy. Complete waste of money!!! If I could give zero stars, I would. The class was for dogs that are trained - not puppies that require attention and bark in class. Keep in mind there were only two other dogs in the class. So, we couldnt see why there would be any issues with our dog. After two classes, he stopped going because it was absolutely not providing any assistance for my puppy or my husband. We never received a phone call as to why he stopped going. I think they were glad to be rid of him.
My family took our pup to Happy Dog and it’s made me happy too! Ellen is incredibly knowledgeable and the classes are fun for the pooches and the people attending. And it works!!! Looking forward to taking more classes there.
So far we have taken 2 classes with Happy Dog. The first one was puppy kindergarten (taught by Ellen), which was a blast, even though we had to do it through zoom, because of the shut down. My dog learned so much and for a puppy with a tremendous amount of energy, she was very well behaved thanks to them and their training tricks. We were able to potty train her relatively quickly, about 3 weeks in.Since then we have now just completed family dog one (taught by Lori) , and thanks to this class my dog was become quiet the leash walker. She comes when called, without me having to repeat her name multiple times, she is starting to respond to commands with us just saying it once. She does not touch the food on our counters, tables, or end tables, even though she can reach them. They have helped turn our Tasmanian devil puppy into a well mannered 10 month puppy who gets complimented all the time. I strongly recommend them to all your training needs.
We completed Puppy Kindergarten and Family Dog 1 with our pup and are so thankful for the lessons we learned. Attending Happy Dog helped us to raise an obedient and confident dog. The classes were important to helping us understand our dogs train of thought and connect with him through respect and mutual understanding. I recommend Happy Dog to everyone and truly appreciate the value it added to our relationship with our fur son.
I have taken 3 classes with Happy Dog and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for help navigating the crazy puppy stages. Not only was it incredibly helpful having classes each week and understanding how to channel the puppy energy, but having Ellen there to answer questions in class or through email and others in class going through the same stages was tremendously comforting.
Ellen and her colleagues are highly knowledgeable, responsive to questions, courteous and very helpful. Our current dog is our third utilizing Happy Dog Training & Behavior and we are very happy with the results. There is no one better to our knowledge.
Happy Dog Training lives up to their great reviews! Our dachshund puppy Pepper completed the Puppy Kindergarten course and our whole family found the classes to be enjoyable. It gave us the foundation on which to build Peppers good behavior as she worked through puppyhood. Not only does our dog show confidence but my husband and I feel much more confident working with her and addressing behavioral issues. Lorrie instructed our class and showed so much empathy, grace and kindness when working with dogs of all sizes and energy levels. Looking forward to taking more classes in the future!
We had 1 lesson in Huntington last week which was amazing! This week because of the virus we were emailed that class would be held by video conferencing. We have to say it was like just being in the room like last week in our own home! The instructor Lorrie was interacting with all of us . We were able to ask questions and be instructed what to do with our puppies just the same as being at the Huntington training center. Thank you Lorrie and Ellen . We highly recommend coming here. They are so professional and knowledgeable !
I have trained 2 of my dogs with Ellen. The positive , progressive training helped develop a terrific bond. Both were Canine Good Citizens and Therapy Dog Certified at 13 and 14 months of age. The only negative review I read here was someone who needed her dog retrained. Happy Dog classes are all about families training their own dogs .
I can’t recommend this place enough! I’ve always rescued dogs from shelters so I’ve never really had a puppy (totally different ballgame btw). Each week we learn something new and it’s amazing how far our little guy has came in just a few weeks. They give you the tools to build a confident, happy, well behaved dog and that is just priceless!
We took our new puppy here for a series of classes, and came home or armed with a lot more knowledge and the thorough understanding of positive training and reinforcement. Its a much better way than going no no no all the time and you get really good results and a very happy dog. The classes were taught in a relaxed manner and yet she was able to get a lot of information across at e same time. IMHO, this should be standard for all new pet parents so you can learn the ins-and-outs instead of have to improvise your way through.
I absolutely loveeeeee Happy Dog Training & Behavior! They are warm, welcoming and their strategic lessons were awesome. Also I loved that they gave a homework sheet that reviewed all skills we did in class along w what we were to practice at home. Also, all trainers make themselves available if you need to reach out in between classes. I went to another training last place and was disgusted upon meeting the trainer and hearing their comments about my 3m lab mix. I am soooo thankful that I was able to get into the Puppy Kindergarten class with HDTB. My baby LOVEEEEEEEED going there. As soon as we would pull into the parking lot she was SUPER excited. If youre looking for a training center definitely go to Happy Dog Training and Behavior!
We did the beginner program at happy dog. Saw some real improvement in our puppy. The fact of having other dogs in class also allowed our pup to make friends and work on his social skills. Great trainer.
Wonderful training! Have taken several of my dogs to Ellen at Happy Dog and have always had great experience and great results. Positive based training and great follow up!
Amazing! Highly suggest for new, previous, and current dog owners. Ellen and Lorrie know their stuff! Amazing to watch the progression before your eyes with your pup and the others in class. Such a great setting and environment for the dogs to get the right amount of attention they need for training. Worth every penny for your furry forever friend.
Ellen and Lorrie are absolutely amazing trainers. Theyve helped me raise my dogs, especially my Siberian Husky, to be well mannered pups. I cant imagine how theyd be if we never attended training classes.
I have brought my dogs to Happy Dog Training for nearly 18 years now. This is our third pup that we have brought to Happy Dog Training and I cannot express the professionalism, vast knowledge base and pure fun that Ellen (the owner) and Laurie have shared with us and our pups. They always have the answers and resources to so many different aspects of having and training my dogs. One of the biggest bonuses is knowing that Ellen provides lifetime support for you and your pup, you can call or email her with any question or concern. You can easily see how much they love and respect all the animals brought to them, big and small. Honest and respectful, you cant ask for much more. Highly recommended.
I had no idea what I was doing, so I brought my dog here. Lorrie was helpful and attentive and sensitive and still rigorous every step of the way. So Ill tell you what I told Lorrie -- these classes didnt just help me train my dog, they brought me and my dog closer together.
I took the puppy kindergarten class and it was fantastic! I really liked how they handled puppy playtime. I also appreciated how we werent actively working with the puppies for the whole class so they learned the valuable life skill of waiting and relaxing in a new place. Seriously cannot recommend that class enough!
Excellent dog training school. I highly recommend this place over any petco location. They really are detailed and educated themselves on all facets of dog behavior. I have learned so much in the last 10 weeks we have been going!!
Our two year old Bassett/pit bull mix loved the learning experience here. Ellen is a wonderful trainer and I recommend her highly.
I have been using ellen and Happy Dog for over 20 years. I find that they are the best in the business. Very professional happy dog. Happy home.
Excellent! If you have a new puppy, take the puppy kindergarten class. You will learn the essential concepts that will help you train your dog to be safe and happy.
Took a six week course with Laurie. She was patient, helpful, full of great information and tips! Highly recommend!
Had a great time learing how to train my dog and myself. We took all there classes witch thay had more, it was alot of fun.
Ellen is an amazing dog trainer who so clearly loves and respects animals. We found Happy Dog Training and Behavior through the wonderful reviews online and I am so happy that we signed our puppy up for the Puppy Kindergarten class. At the start of each class we received a handout that detailed all of the training tips and techniques we would learn that day. We learned so much and the handouts made it easy to make sure all caregivers and family members were on the same page. The space where the classes meet is clean and well maintained, with ample parking. Sign up for her classes and you wont be disappointed!
Great experience, informative and fun for both dog and owner. Cant wait to start next class
Ellen really knows her stuff, you will enjoy your pup even more after you take one of her classes
Great place for dog training, we just completed the family dog 1 course and it was very helpful and I liked the method of training used :))
Ellen the instructor is great. Only 6 puppies per class.
Puppy Kindergarten was not only easy to understand and helpful, but fun. We were in a class with 5 other puppies. We understood the rules that turned out to be a fun and effective way to learn. An added bonus was the play time with fellow puppy students at the end of the class. My puppy was always excited and happy thru out.Highly recommended for the teaching style and comfort while learning. Thank you Lorrie and Ellen!
Excellent training for dogs of all ages. The staff are helpful, attentive and effective.
Bringing your dog to Happy Dog Training is by far the best and most successful dog training experience you can have. I am currently enrolled in the Puppy Kindergarten class with the third dog I am bringing to Happy Dog, which included my 120 lb Bernese Mountain dog who was reactive to other dogs. By the time we finished our 1 to 1 lessons, he was walking calmly next to me at a dog friendly park as other dogs passed.Ellen and Lorrie are two extremely professional, knowledgeable, experienced, dedicated and caring dog trainers who encourage you to contact them to help resolve any issues that may arise or answer questions that you may have... long after you have finished the training class(es). Their successful positive approach is one that treats their 2 legged and 4 legged students with respect and understanding. Their classes are well structured, organized and fun. They provide a detailed plan of what is going to be covered in each class as well as follow up activities and games that build on and reinforce new and previously learned behaviors, as well as Homework, that if followed, ensures success. Ellen and Lorrie strive to have both you and your dog be successful; and if you, as the owner follow through.. you will be.
I can’t say enough great things about Happy Dog Training - after only 4 weeks of classes so far I am seeing huge difference in our puppy Larry - a medium size Bernedoodle.I cant say enough about how great Ellen. She always responds to any questions i might have via email, and answers questions during class while teaching new techniques. The classes are a lot of fun, well spaced out with only a few puppies in the class at a time and not overwhelming. Larry loves going and we are learning so much!I highly recommend Happy Dog Training!
I highly recommend Happy Dog Training & Behavior without reservation! Our 2 puppies just completed Puppy Kindergarten & Family Dog 1 over the past few months. Ellen & Lori have helped guide us through every aspect of their training using positive reinforcement methods. From house breaking to loose leash walking to place, we and the dogs enjoyed the classes. Proper dog training is a wise investment and we can’t think of better trainers than Ellen and Lori! They truly care and go above & beyond!
Loved Lorrie and Ellen! We did both puppy kindergarten and family dog with our golden. Puppy kindergarten was great for socialization and basic skills and family dog was so helpful in building on those learned skills. Samson gets compliments for his good behavior thanks to happy dog!
We signed our 1 year old pup up for the Family Dog 1 training class with Ellen and couldn’t be happier. We had started our dog when she was a puppy with a different, “balanced”, dog trainer, and felt like the techniques used (prong collars, force, etc) weren’t working for our dog. She was starting to show behavioral problems that we couldn’t get a handle on, and wasn’t responding positively to the training we had been shown. I knew it was time to find a new trainer, and sent Ellen an email after having a particularly scary event with our dog. I asked if this was something we could work on, and she assured me it was. I cant begin to explain the positive change I have seen in my dog after enrolling in class. Her positive training methods created a stronger bond with me and my dog, and allowed us to communicate in a more effective way. She wants to be with me, work, and is constantly checking in even off leash. Most importantly she now loves to train. Ellen is always available to answer our questions and give advice to help us continue setting our dog up for success. Thank you Ellen! We can’t wait to continue our training.
Excellent instruction by friendly and welcoming dog trainers. Im so thankful for everyone here and their expertise! Would highly reccomend :)
The best training instructors ever!!! All of my puppies attend classes.
They did a great job with my dog! Very helpful to learn the basic commands.
Highly recommend calm environment conducive to learning. Easy steps to guarantee success. Patience with owners.
More detailed review below, but if you want really good training, great instruction + awesome service just stop looking and pay to come here. I did puppy kindergarten as all I wanted was to be taught basic puppy skills + socialize my puppy with other dogs and felt I got a ton for my $.Training: All of the training advice here is extremely simple to understand and implement. By week 2 of the course I had my puppy offering to sit and be calm in the house without me even having to ask them. Everything you learn is stuff you can start doing immediately and its all so easy a child can do it. The course covers basically everything you could want your puppy to learn to exist calmly at home. Everything they teach just works because its easy for YOU to understand and easy for YOUR DOG to understand.Service: I had tons of questions throughout the course and always got prompt, well written replies. This isnt a Petco course where youll be left out to dry, its premium and custom.Facility: The training area is BIG. You wont have to worry about your dog being too close to other puppies to pay attention during class. At the end of most classes there is supervised puppy play time where they can socialize. Most importantly though- the place is CLEAN! As someone who was worried about socializing my dog when I was only 2/3 of the way through vaccinations, theres nothing to worry about at this place.
The owner and staff did a fantastic job of teaching not only our dog, but us as well. A professional feel, but yet a small enough class to have proper attention to all people/pets. Good Covid protocols in place as well. Would highly recommend!!
I think what sets it appart from any other training service that you might get from PetCo or any other place is the fact that the staff (in our case Lori!) is incredibly knowledgeable, has an answer to any question or doubt you might have, and genuenly wants to help you and your pup!The service was nothing short of exceptional, they are incredibly responsive and reactive, and they listen to your and your pups needs!Sure, it might be more expensive than other methods, but you definitely get what you pay for! And when it comes to a pup that youre going to keep for 15+ years... This was a no-brainer for us!
Classes have been great so far and facility is really clean!
Very good trainer my dog has improved so much and he is only at the half way part of his training
My dog went here for training, and the people here care about your dog! The training goes for a few weeks and keep in mind, its only effective if you keep up! They get you involved!
Refused to let my pup join the class because he barked twice within a 5 minute period and they said he would be disruptive.. owner was so rude and nasty.
Ellen has done a wonderful job helping is through the process of adding a puppy to the family. The process works, if applied as directed.
Love Happy Dog...great environment for your dog to learn and her mental and physical exercise.....ellen and lorrie are wonderful !!!!
