I cannot tell you how much I am thankful for this place. I adopted two kittens from 10 Lives Club only for them to pass away a week later. 10 Lives then tried to blame it on us (my roommate and I) that they got sick, not them for no doing texting when they brought them up from the southern states. The vet told us the incubation period and there is no way we gave it to them since we have no other pets in our apartment prior. After mourning my children I went looking. No place wanted us as the virus can stay in our home for a year. Then comes Pets Alive. Not only was every person friendly, they knew of similar situations people have been put in and were very understanding. Roxie answered any questions I had and made me feel so much better knowing I did everything I could for my kittens before they passed. This place allowed me and my roommate to adopt even knowing our story, explaining an older cat (a year or older) who has all their shots would be completely fine. Weve had our Georgiana for almost a year now and shes the best cat I could hope for. They handle all their cats and socialize with them daily. They do fantastic work and I cannot recommend them enough.I know this is a long post but I wanted to inform people to do research on their cat shelters and get to know who handles the cats. This place is serious with their interview process because they care so much and dont allow adoptions if they feel like the cat will not have a great home. I respect that considering they could have said no to us but they knew wed do anything for our cat. These animals mean so much more to them.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! They are the most compassionate, wholesome, and honest group of people who truly care about animals. We adopted our orange tabby in April and we couldnt be happier with our experience with Pets Alive! 10/10!🐾 *They are also always accepting donations of Friskies wet food!

I dont understand the terrible reviews. This place sets cats up for success, not failure. And they want to be sure the adopter is vetted properly, most people think cats are some easy animal to own who dont require much care. This is the furthest thing from the truth, and they are super up front about that! They also are openly honest about cats personalities and temperaments. Which is so much appreciated, why cause the potential for stress on cats and unsuccessful adoptions? I went twice before adopting my baby. They were friendly, knowledgeable and thorough the whole time. We have plans to adopt more in the future, and would gladly use pets alive.

My daughter fell in love with a cat this past weekend while we were donating food. We applied to adopt him and were initially told we were approved but when we showed up to take him home they denied us because we told them we don’t typically give canned food. Not that it was off the table just that it’s not typical for us. There was no discussion it was an automatic decline and my daughter was devastated. I was so sad for her and the cat. I have owned cats for over 20 years and worked in the vet industry for over 6 years. I am appalled that they didn’t trust us and left my daughter crying

This is a really nice place for adopting cats. The facility is great. The staff are all helpful and friendly. You can tell they care about the animals. I believe they also accept donations to help out. They care about who is adopting as well which is appreciated. I felt like they were knowledgeable and wanted to participate in helping us find cats that were a good fit for us and our home.

I had to surrender my cat 2 years ago due to unforseen circumstances. I was told at time of adoption to return to shelter if any issue arose. My cat became ill I took her to a vet near my home but they wanted 400 for blood work after I gave them 235 to just be seen in emergency. They gave her some treatments and she still wasnt better much so I had to surrender broke my heart. Now I am in a new home in safe stable senior complex and wanted a new cat but lo and behold when I applied I got rejected so with a few sources I found out Pets Alive blacklisted me from any adoption ever again. This is a despicable thing they did to me. I am fully capable now of caring for a cat! And always have been a responsible pet owner. I lost my husband unexpectedly when this issue arose. So Beware if you have to do a surrender they will put you on blacklist for any future adoptions any place.

Horrible honestly. After send an email for adopt a cat, they told us is too many people apply at the same time, so they are not process our application. its rediculous that they dont even want to do the research on me and turn me down. I have vet who can guarantee me before I have a cat. and I am ready for all the supply for a cat. but they give me feel they dont even want to consider about me. Being that I was never provided why I was denied I feel as though it was racially charged. Shame on all of you if that is true. That the color of my skin and my attire can determine my eligibility for a kitten.

I found a cat on Pet Finder that I was interested in adopting, submitted an application, and was given an appointment to meet the animal. I fully intended on adopting the cat and drove from Rochester (1.5 hours). The volunteer “Roxie” immediately began verbally accosting me over the food I feed my current cats and referred to it as “crack” multiple times during the encounter. I told her that I appreciated the information regarding pet nutrition and would be willing to maintain the cat on their choice of food and transition my other animals to the food. She told me to do that, and come back another day after knowing I had driven that far to meet him. It is disheartening to see rescues and shelters bursting at the seams, and a potential adopter who commuted 1.5 hours was turned away even after agreeing to meeting their terms. I hope this woman does not speak so unprofessionally and condescending towards other potential adopters. I was even prepared to give a $100 donation on top of the cat’s adoption fee. But I left empty handed and hopefully an adopter who is good enough for this rescue comes along to adopt that very sweet cat.

I recently adopted a sweet, happy and well socialized 6 month old kitten from Pets Alive WNY. The staff was friendly and compassionate. As soon as we got home, the kitty made himself right at home. He is very trusting and not at all shy which makes it clear that he was treated with love and attention while he was in their care. I definitely recommend adopting from here!

We went in looking to adopt a kitten and we ended up adopting an older cat. The staff was friendly and helped us make our decision but ultimately left it up to us. The process was simple and quick but they answered all of our questions and gave us all of her records for every shot shes ever received. Even though there was an adoption fee which we expected it was so worth it considering the cat came spayed and was up to date on everything and we knew exactly what we were getting in to. So happy we found our forever cat and I would recommend anyone who is looking to adopt a pet to consider at least coming to this place and looking.

I had the worst experience trying to adopt from this place. When we first walked in, the staff insisted we fill out an application to see if we are even able to adopt a cat. Okay, fine, no problem. We filled out the application. Then, we were interrogated about what pet food we would use, if we had owned a cat before, do we have other pets, what kind of environment we would have for the cats. When asked about what food was recommended or if the staff had any advice about what the environment should be like, was rudely told that we should come back when we were better prepared to have a cat. We have owned pets (dogs and cats) for years, are always responsible, always take them to their check ups, vaccinate and love them dearly, so were shocked and taken off guard by the hostility shown to us. Meanwhile, my kids had fallen in love with 2 cats. Was told we had to wait until they reviewed our application and checked references. Asked about what references they would check and was told they would call our vet to see if we would be good pet owners. What if this was our first pet? Do they instantly deny people who have never owned a pet before? Surprised that it was this difficult to adopt, we went home.2 days later, got an email saying we were approved. Great. Went back and were again interrogated about what supplies we had, what food we were going to get, etc... I said we would get whatever supplies were needed that day and asked what food the cats had been given or what was recommended, and was never given a straight answer, just not Friskies and that they ordered their cat food and it couldnt be found in the store. Very judgmental and unhelpful. Then the manager said she would have to ask the foster mother of the cats if we were acceptable enough to adopt the cats and told us that we have to leave and come back. My kids were expecting to be able to adopt the cats and having the manager rudely interrogate and berate me in front of my children made them cry there and all the way home. It was awful. I will not be going back. I would recommend that the staff of this center (especially the manager) communicate better, be kinder, more helpful and less judgmental to people just trying to adopt a cat to love and take care of.

Friendly staff, adorable cats, and a quick and easy adoption process! Would recommend this rescue to anyone looking for a new cat! The staff there is also extremely knowledgeable about cats and how to raise them and keep them healthy! They showed us spreadsheets on different cat foods and the benefits and downsides to each, recommended vendors and products for wet food, dry food, and kitty litter, and gave us a wealth of information on the temperaments and likes and dislikes of each of the cats we were considering. They made us confident not only that we were adopting the right cat for us, but also that we could care for him adequately and keep him healthy. Beyond satisfied with Pets Alive!

Horrible honestly. I had filled an application in hopes of getting a kitten and providing a home to an animal in need. I have a family of children all over the age of 16, a home, income and experience with cats as well as a vet. I was denied after I was told all I needed was to provide vet information. I wanted to know the reason that I was denied but I was only told that over a 100 people applied for the same cat as if that’s my business or what I was asking all I wanted was a cat. Being that I was never provided why I was denied I feel as though it was racially charged. Shame on all of you if that is true. I came to petsalivewny to adopt a cat. I was invited to sit in the apartment, a large area where multiple cats of same age live. I sat down and a big cat, Carter, jumped on my lap and marked me and purred. I told staff Id take him. This apartment arrangement allowed me to see cats cohabiting, so I adopted a 2nd cat, whod been there a while, but at that moment wanted nothing to do with me. We are enjoying life and I cant thank this shelter enough for getting the cats socialized for adoption.😻

Dont get me wrong, most of the people working there were incredibly nice except for one lady- I think her name was Roxy. Were new to owning a pet and we wanted to get some more insight on the cats and which ones would be a good match with us so we talked to most, if not all of the volunteers during our stay. Mostly everyone was incredibly friendly and they all gave us good advice when we asked. But this one lady got really weird- she told us that getting another cat would conflict with the 8 year old cat that our friend has been talking about giving us (who is super chill, super good with other pets, literally no issues whatsoever). Then she started trying to cause issues over the fact that i had put that i would let the cat outdoors on the application, which i explained afterwards was a misunderstanding. (Im willing to clicker train, harness train, and take an overly-high-energy cat for walks, not let them roam free in the way of danger) Everyone else was being super nice though, so we brushed it off and continued looking at the cats until we found a kitten that we absolutely fell in love with. We went back to the main room excited and eager to take in the newest member of our family, when we were told that somehow we had been denied. Turns out that the staff we initially were talking to approved us, but the lady who was acting weird went back and denied us afterwards without saying anything. We asked her why, told her were willing to change anything at all because were new to owning pets and of course we dont know everything, and her response was to shout in our faces that were inconsistent and we dont know what we want. Im sorry, but whether were good potential cat owners or not, there is no excuse for shouting at us the way she was, especially not while working. Super unprofessional. Those cats are absolute sweethearts and Im all for people adopting them, but i am 1000% not a fan of the shelter if thats how they let their staff act.
