The staff was absolutely incredible and so helpful in helping us pick a new addition to give a furrever home. We did not go into the SPCA expecting to adopt today but an adorable gray cat named Lacy (who we ended up naming Mochi!) stole our hearts from the moment she came into the room and started loving on us at the shelter. She instantly came into our home and was just as loving and sweet as she was in the shelter. Mochi instantly bonded with my boyfriend and she’s laying in his lap as I type this!! We are slowly introducing her to our other cat, Cookie and so far it seems to be going well! We are so grateful to the SPCA in helping us adopt Mochi. We are so happy to have her be a part of our family and can’t wait to see her grow.
Gotta love this place and everything they do for the animals in this area..the kitten they rescued and let us give a home is a great addition to our house hold...
Staff (medical, administrative, and cleaning staff) work hard to insure all pets are cared for with compassion as well as efficiency. The pets rooms are cleaned regularly, and most companion volunteers have experience and good information to share. If weather conditions are poor, thoughtful decisions are made to inform all personnel of early closings. Generous donations seem to keep it running smoothly as well.
Stella has added so much to my life! She is a joy....playful, a lap cat, and a shadow. Everywhere I go in the house, she follows me. I She loves watching the toilet flush..weird. Staff was very professional, facility clean and well run.
All staff I dealt with were truly amazing. I had to let my beautiful loving girl go cross over the rainbow bridge and they helped me through the process and were very understanding. Andi will always be grateful for the kindness they showed me.
We adopted two kittens earlier this month and they are amazing
Such a beautiful place that really takes care of their animals. Amazing place to adopt from!
We adopted our dog from here, and everyone was helpful and kind. The animals are well cared for and given lots of attention. Please adopt. If you must have a specific breed, please go through a rescue. Your new companion is waiting for you to give them a forever home.
Ive now adopted cats from here twice, both are absolute treasures! The staff here is super friendly and theyll help you meet your new best friend. They do great work in the area, making sure every pet is taken care of. The cats came microchipped, spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines, and they give you the pets medical history to take to their first vet appointment (which is free!). Go find you best friend and save a local animal today!
Our dog was let go when someone broke into our house and dog control found him wandering the street and took him to their office and we got him home safely! A bit expensive especially when it was because of a scumbag ring themselves and letting the dog go, but what these days isnt expensive!? All in all they got the dog back to us safe and sound more or less! Very thankful for that!
Best place to adopt a fur baby. The staff is very polite, amazing and super helpful. All the animals were well kept and happy.
We adopted this sweet smart dog in January 2012. He has brought us so much enjoyment and has become our faithful loving friend.
People that work there are very rude and sometimes you cant even get ahold of people for important information need respectful people or no one will want to bring there animals there! Very disrespectful
They were amazing helping us find our little Annie! The staff is amazing, it was so clean there and she is such a happy princess!
We have been here two times, one time in late 2021 and the last time in July of 2023. In July of 2023 we adopted a beautiful kitten with the help of the knowledgeable staff. We dealt mostly with Emily, and she worked with us through the adoption process. She understood that we wanted to look at another facility before deciding on the kitten we wanted to adopt, and she worked with us while we did this. Emily has the best interests of the animals in mind, she is a great person, very caring and easy to work with. As far as the kitten we decided on well when the quiet one isn’t so quiet when you walk in the door, it’s an obvious choice. That and there is an instant bond when you hold them. The staff saw that and listened to how we care for our animals, this helped us make the right decision. The location is a beautiful one, it is clean, quiet, it seems busy but not overwhelmingly busy. This is a great home for those that are waiting to go to their forever home. The staff is truly kind, compassionate, and attentive. There are several volunteers who we saw, they all seem knowledgeable and love what they are doing. With this being a college town, there are a lot of young people spending time with the kittens and cats, it is obvious that this is a benefit to both the animals and the young people, and volunteers. We would highly recommend this place when looking to adopt a cat or dog a forever home.
I adopted both my cats here. They do an in depth intake medical exam, feed them well, and staff and volunteers seem to care a great deal for every single animals well being. I love this place and what they do.
My husband and I adopted our kitten from here. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping us pick the perfect kitten for our family. Several months later I returned here again because a feral cat had kittens under our house, but then got spooked and left the tiny little guys for over two days. When I called the SPCA they immediately took the kittens and found them a foster family to care for them until they could be adopted out. Great work, very helpful and caring people!
Good, clean facilities. Ill be honest, the people working seemed to play dumb about the needs of the highly reactive animals, but I guess if you wait for the perfect home its never going to come around so you make do with what comes through the door.So that said, obviously do your research. Make sure you know what youre getting into. They exist to save the animals, and if they can find a home for one that absolutely wouldnt otherwise, theyll make a push for it.They are, of course, still doing excellent work.
The guy who helped us was very rude to us we found a pair of cats and were told they would get along well with our kitten and I really wanted them instead of helping us the guy kicked us out and told us we couldn’t take them. We expressed we were having a baby and I was really excited to take the cats but because I was having a baby he said no he said that we didn’t understand at all what he was saying but I understood very well!! I recommend not going here they will show you the pets and tell you to get out very rude!! They just wanna keep the animals locked up forever I will NEVER go there again and I will tell all my friends and family not to go there!!
Very friendly staff. They made sure we had all the information we needed for bringing our new kitten home.
It’s a great place for adoption. The staff is very nice, patient, caring and very professional. My cat was adopted from here two years ago and now she is the most important family member of our family. My friends also adopted their cats from here.
Amazing group of staff and volunteers who work so hard to rescue, care for and help find forever homes to countless animals every year. Best of all - they have the proof to show. Save a life - adopt, don’t buy from breeders.
Everyone was super helpful in guiding us through the adoption of our 2 new cats. Overall a great experience!
Very Friendly and clean facility. Animals were well kept!
The people were very nice. The shelter was clean and smelled fresh. Visitors are told to use hand sanitizer before and between handling the animals. Adoption was easy.
Great experience working with the whole staff! Prince is fitting in nicely
Had a great experience adopting a cat and a kitten...adopt dont shop!
Got my wonderful pup and lots of advice on how to take care of her
Always kind staff, always helpful finding our forever family members
I found three kittens in my drainage pipe and because I didnt live in Tompkins county they couldnt help. And the guy on the phone was very rude. Those kittens ended up getting hit all besides one that my girlfriend took.
Large, clean, and caring facility.
Found the perfect match on my first visit because of an amazing volunteer who took me on a detour in my tour of senior cats to show me a two-year-old he thought Id click with. I emailed my adoption application that night and when they called me back the next day theyd already approved it and spoken to my landlord. Everything was so easy and professional. I was able to take her home two days after meeting her. I couldnt imagine a better pet for me and the reason shes here with me now is all thanks to an SPCA volunteers intuition!
They had a very clean facility and the workers were very nice and helpful. The animals are taken care of there. I cant wait to start volunteering there.
I rescued my two new best friends from here. My kittens, Wiley and Stella were well taken cared of as where the rest of the animals at the shelter. The staff was great and you could feel the compassion. I will return again.
The staff is usually friendly. When we went for a cat we werent charged a set fee. Just asked to make a donation. Seems other SPCAs are getting ridiculous with adoption fees. Its very clean here and theres a lot of volunteers playing with the pets and taking them outside for exercise. Its a great place to adopt and for the pets waiting for their forever homes.
Came in to check out the cats for adoption and I was very impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the facility, the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and how well treated the cats were in this very difficult time for them. Well be coming back to adopt one next week, and supporting this SPCA as long as were in the area for sure!
The people r great!! Theyre very friendly and helpful. Its a great place. We got a great price. Theyre very caring about the animals
Great staff! We had gone to another shelter in the area, but were denied getting a pet because we had only been in our apartment for a month or so. I decide to go the the TCSPCA to ask about residency requirements. In less than 30 minutes I was walking out with our new family member.
My cat was found and taken there They helped my family with his return to us and also found a couple thing wrong with him. Help us transition to the next step we had to make. These are the best animal people in Tompkins county
Not especially helpful as far as getting a cat neutered. Just told that I could get an appointment in September. I could have used a referral to a vet. It would also be good to have the SPCA teamed up with a few area vets to offer neutering and lessen additional pregnancies.
I have spent a bit of time here recently, and for the most part this place is amazing. The facilities are super clean and of the highest quality of all shelters I have been to. But.....its the humans that seem to be problematic, not all, and only on specific days. At times there are so many volunteers that it makes it difficult to actually spend any time with the animals(dogs specifically), for individuals truly looking to adopt. The humans inject themselves into your meeting so much that you cant even get a glimpse of the animal you are trying to engage with....followed up with an aggressive, what do you think, should we fill out the paper work? I just wish the goal was to find the right human for the right animal companion, instead of adoption pressure, and volunteer animal trainer elitism.
Mainly cats and dogs, but occasionally other small animals, get a second chance to find their forever home. The environment is clean and bright. The animals have comfortable and roomy accommodations during their (hopefully short) stay. Staff and volunteers are helpful and genuinely passionate about taking care of the animals and helping people to match with pet thats is right for them.
What can you say about a no kill SPCA? It great. We got our dog there and I know many people who have gotten dogs and cats there. Its a great place, and the perfect place to drop off unused pet supplies and even returnable bottles (there is a shed out front, they get to keep the $)
I recommend that any one that values or cares about their pet to not bring them here these people are unprofessional. I brought my dog here to get spayed and two days later she cant hold anything down she throws up almost immediately after eating or drinking and has had two seizures. So i called the emergency line and the lady that answered said that i was the third person to complain about the well being of my animal that got fixed by these people. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!!! PAY THE EXTRA MONEY TO TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE THEY QILL ACTUALLY BE TAKEN CARE OF!!!To answer your question asked over a year after my review about my dog no she did not have a recheck she ended up having to be put down because of your awful practices
Adopted our dog from here, the facilities are beyond excellent, and the employees seem well trained and actually enjoy their jobs. A few annoying hoops to jump through and a little pricey as far as the adoption process, but that is probably why they can take such good care of their animals.
Best cat adoption experience, great staff and clean environment for the adorable animals. Highly recommend!
We have gotten two cats from them. The staff are helpful, caring and supportive.
Best place I have ever been to for pet adoption! A woman of color posted that she felt talked down to I can totally get that some of the staff would do that! I encourage all people of go and break them from doing this!!! Kennels were immaculate with plenty of toys, blankets, etc for the dogs 🐕!!!
Surprised that each animal had a room to themselves, That was the biggest thing. The dogs are older & I wish Vader gets out to play more, though Im happy he was returned to this no kill shelter. Hoping he gets a great parent & home since hes super smart.
This place is overall a really nice clean and friendly location. Its also excellent that theyre one of the few locations thats a no kill shelter we actually got our cat pumpkin from here and hes a sweetheart.
Very helpful staff, adopted two of the most amazing fur balls from them! Adoption went smoothly and quickly, very much recommend if youre looking for a new addition to your family!
This facility takes great care of animals and they are honest and forthcoming about the history of all of their animals for adoption. You can find a match depending on your needs quite easily. The staff are helpful and very kind.
They went above and beyond to make sure that my cat had what she needed. They really didnt seem to have all the emphasis be on money. They cared about her well-being and they showed it.
I have the sweetest companion that came from the Tompkins countys SPCA Sophie (aka. Raven) has been my God send after the death of my husband. Thank you SPCA for being there.
On multiple occasions they have went out of there way to help our animals. I couldnt begin to thank them enough for everything they have done.
Very nice place to adopt a pet. The staff is very helpful and keeps you in the k ow about the pet before you take it. Definitely going back for another little one
It is very clean facility unfortunately you cannot interact with any of the animals? Unless you are willing to adopt and they will put a 48-hour hold on the animal.? Thats a serious adopter so youre not allowed to interact with the animal if it has a Hold sign on the door . As a prior Foster and a adopter of numerous animals from Tompkins County & trainer that seems unreasonably questionable so just let the animals sit in the cage for the volunteers to call the front desk to see if you can go into the room cage Etc.
They promised you a dog and then after you fill out all the paperwork before you get home they call you and tell you that the dogs already been adopted out but yet all the folders that were in there when I was there work clean bill of health to me the next day or supposed to pick the dog up they said oh its its already been adopted nice all the paperwork for the dog that was adopted and nobody was ahead of me
Adopting a cat. We found the facility to be clean, with several volunteers to help. Cats were in clean cages in the front of the building.
It is a great place to get a pet. People are nice and professional. The place is well managed. We had great experience going there.
We don’t even live in this district and this institution took a lot of time to help us with a feral cat problem. Our local district didn’t do even a sliver of this work.
Great place for animals and humans! People genuinely care for animals. Before coming in, please call and confirm the timings and appointments. It will be helpful for you and the staff at the shelter.
The staff is always friendly when I go there and the animals are just adorable. The staff is really good at training the dogs and keeping the dog rooms well cleaned.
We had great interactions all the way through the adoption process. Now we have a loved member of our family that meows a ton :)
We got 2 sweet black cats!
Truly amazing place. They have spade and nueter programs and even donation drop-off and pick-up for those in need.Check them out. Please Help the SPCA grow anyway you can!
A friend of ours fosters motherless kittens for the SPCA of Tompkins County... Which is how we met Zeddy, our fourth rescue cat. We adopted him as soon as he was big enough to come home. Zedward P. Scetti is a polydactyl tuxedo cat and being a bottle baby, he is the most people cat weve ever had. Love him to pieces, just like the other three! 💗
After I move I will go back to adopt a cat. It was clean and the animals looked well cared for. Staff was very willing to answer questions.
They always make me feel welcome, even when I just come to spend time with the cats. I love coming here because I know the animals are being treated well.
Amazing staff and volunteers. They save lives everyday. A wonderful no-kill shelter
We stopped to donate two bags of towels and the person seemed rude. Guess I can take them to salvation army next time.
The vets have been great to my little one. I am so grateful for all their help.
I applaud this no kill shelter for everything they do everyday. The place is very clean the animals are well cared for and the volunteers are super friendly and helpful.
We normally get our pets from Cortland SPCA, but this place is good, too. Caring staff, clean, spacious, and loving.
Very cute cats and kittens. This SPCA is state of the art and seems to be a wonderful place to adopt a pet.
The pet are well taken care and they make sure the pets go to good homes they could use some donations please thank you all
The most caring animal shelter/people I have ever been to. If you are looking for a cat or dog, go here and rescue one. The easiest and most helpful shelter I have been to. You wont be sorry.
Incredibly friendly. Very informed. The care for the animals is impeccable. One of the nicest shelters Ive been to.
Great location, great selection of books. Fantastic cafe upstairs where you can sit and enjoy the views of the harbour.
Very clean facility. They take excellent care of the animals. Staff are pleasant and very knowledgeable!
Best shelter ever! Attentive staff and loads of happy animals. Particularly impressed with cats / kittens.
Got this cutie patootie!!😊
Very nice place! They really care about thanimals, the clean friendly staff. Staff works well in training the dogs.
My grand daughter care for the cats every Sunday. She appreciates the opportunity to help the animals. Thank you S.P.C.A.
Found a cute kitten there on the wednesdays kitten carnival. Only $25 compared to their normal $100. Shes a sweetheart.
I adopted my kitty Elliott from here. Love him to pieces. So happy to give him a new home.
They do great work and theyre very knowledgeable they will help you adjust to a new pet and your new pet adjust to you
When they have a program for spayed and neutered its a good program.
They are nice
Wonderful and caring home for abandoned or stray pets, with enough volunteers hoping for these animals to find a good home
I was there for the pantry and the gentleman by the name of Doug was great awesome I see everyone that even said anything to me was like was very respectful and my dad about drivers get about the drivers from the buses that I took to come to the pantry they were wonderful also and everyone helped load up the vehicle with the stuff that I got they were great
I have been trying to contact this spca for over two months now and not once have they called me back nor picked up the phone
I have had wonderful experiences with this SPCA. They take very good care of the animals they have.
Its ok but I have applied for a dog to adopt and always told the dog is spoken for
Very caring and pleasant! They do wonderful things for animals!
What an amazing team focused on helping even the pets with behavioral issues
Lovely humans working so hard to help animals find their loving furever homes! 10 stars! 🥰
Well ik there busy but I havent heard back to help with quite a few stray cats under my house really need help in getting them out
I called there several times to donate and left several messages and never received a phone call - this was over the course of several months.
Very friendly, clean and organized. Lots of happy animals and humans!
The people that helped me with my 2 kittens where amazing. Thanks very much for everything that you ladies did for me and my 2 kittens
Great staff, and very clean . Adoption process was quick and easy!
Its a warm welcoming environment with positive and encouraging staff that are compassionate
A clean facility, nice place to adopt an animal. And friendly staff.
Amazing caring people, Granddaughter adopted a kitten from there. Awesome, caring and professional people
Really poor attitudes dealing with the public; one cant fault their zeal to save animals, but people looking to adopt should be treated with more courtesy.
Excellent experience with them, very pleased. Please donate to them or your local SPCA.
Professional staff always keeping animals first and foremost.
Great with their pets and adoptions. Best in countries around.
We adopted a pet and they made the transition for my new pet and myself easy.
They were running g over an hour behind but very friendly and helpful.
Tommy Tutone and Azul are the best cats
Ive got only good things to say about this place. It fills its mission with aplomb.
Clean, friendly no kill shelter staffed by caring volunteers
Staff was knowledgeable the kennels were clean nice place.
Great no kill shelter. Volunteers and staff are very helpful.
Beautiful place with very caring staff
So many animals needing homes so please adopt. From the very young to (please dont forget the senior animals that need loving homes too) older animals.
The animals are very well taken care of and ready to be adopted.
One of the best SPCAs running. Very close to Cornell.
Found a couple of lost dogs and brought them here, and the next day their owners got them back. What more could you ask for :-)
Got my puppers there. What an amazing experience
Friendly, warm and knowledgeable staff! Thank you for everything ♥️
Called about some horses that were neglected and an officer responded within the hour!
The SPCA is a wonderful, loving& caring adoption place for animals
Great organization and great group of people. Keep up the awesome work!!!
Lovely people who care deeply about the well-being of the animals.
My 9 month old cat was neutered and given his shots and was micro chipped on a Tuesday; by Thursday he was not eating and sleeping a lot, unable to bear weight on his front leg; Friday he is admitted to the vet with a serious infection and high fever (very close to death). I had called the SOS line to be blown off NOT once, NOT twice but 3 times telling me it was not a surgical problem it sounded like he had a virus yet they wouldn’t even see him to check the hot red wound on his belly, as well as a foul odor from his surgical sight. I paid for the surgery as well as left a donation to get my little guy back and have his health decline so fast. Luckily I was able to find him and emergency vet who was willing to help me help my little guy. It’s been 3 days and nights at the vet and he is finally improving, but you can guarantee the SPCA will NOT help with a bill for a problem that they caused. If you have a vet or even a longer wait time at your own vet I highly recommend that you have your spay and neuter a done with them and not here!!!
Great staff, well kept, clean, organized & thorough
Great place for pet adoption. Good people
My kids do a lemonade stand every year to help the animals and twice now we got pushed out the door by some guy saying my kids are to loud!! Then I call about a puppy 🐶 an they dont return my calls or answer the phone how crazy well we will donate to someone elses animals like stray heaven in Waverly ny we live in Tioga County maybe we should of went there first. Good Job Tompkins county my kids dont wanna ever come back.. almost 300.00 dollars wasnt good enough for u guys every year Really..
We adopted our beloved cat here 7 years ago. Most recently I took my baby here to meet some cats and dogs. He loved meeting all of the mature cats and watching the kittens sleep. It was lovely to see caring volunteers spending time with the cats and dogs, training them and caring for them while we browsed around.I also loved seeing the mobile vet spay and neuter van out front as a constant reminder to folks to have your pets spayed or neutered. There were just so many cats. They were all very well cared for with plenty of food, water and clean litter. Many people were visiting that day, all willing to give some pets to some attention seeking kitties. In a perfect world, I could have more cats. Until that perfect time in my life to have more, we will visit and pet the animals waiting for their perfect forever home.
Had a sleep over with a shelter dog. If you’re looking for a furry friend, please adopt.
Great spay and neuter clinic, very kind
Very helpful and took good care of the animals
We adopted our cat here 6 months ago. We utilized the daily updated website to see the available cats and knew which one we were interested in on the day of our appointment. When we adopted him, the worker made it very clear that he had specific issues that made him a bad fit for a previous household. It seemed like she really cared that he ended up in the right home and was more concerned about the right family than simply getting him adopted. Volunteers check in with us often to make sure things are still going well with him. They really care at the SPCA!
This place is absolutely wonderful. We have gotten to animals here over the years. We have had nothing but good experiences with the staff and the service is provided by this group! It’s so much fun just to go visit the animals particularly all the cats in the cat apartments!
Very helpful getting my dog spayed.
Spca was very helpful for my family
A wonderful organization that helps our four legged friends!
Great place for all pet needs
They are asking used car prices for giving a poor pet a home.
No clear dates for rabies clinics
They came out to help rescue a young kitten from a deep small hole in the ground
Great organization with a wonderful spay and neuter program - made being a responsible owner affordable. Staff was super nice and helpful.
The staff are awesome here. Very helpful and very caring. The facility itself is very well kept and clean. There main focus is the animals. The animals are well taken care of
Have gotten all my dogs there. It is well maintained with an excellent, compassionate staff. Best of all it is a No Kill shelter. Wonderful community resource.
