Our vet recommended Dan. I called after adopting a dog that had never really lived in a home and had spent about 2 years in the shelter system. I was uncertain about the possibility that the methods could make a difference but I trusted my vet. It made a huge difference. Daily life is a much more pleasant experience in my home with my dogs. And walking them is no longer a nightmare. It is work. It is not an easy fix. But I am very appreciative of the time that Dan and Kathy took with us. And they were responsive to follow up questions. Both Dan and Kathy seem very committed to the wellbeing/health of dogs.My only complaint is that I didnt do it earlier.

We had Dan and Cathy come to our home a month ago, we were desperate for help with our 5 month old American Bully, we never realized how difficult and important it would be to train our puppy. We saw a huge difference after Dan spent 3 hours in our home training my family how to work with our dog. It wasnt only our puppy that needed training it was our family too. After Dan left when we had questions we would call him right away and he always had the right answers. He recently came back for a follow up and gave us even more helpful tips. People may just think that its the dog that needs training but its the owners as well. We are so much more educated on dogs and the way they think then we ever were. Having Dan come to the house was a huge plus too! ! He was able to see the dog in his setting and we were able to make the necessary changes in our home. We highly recommend Dan and couldnt be happier we made the decision to reach out to him!

I have had dogs my entire life, never with issue. In April 2019 we got two 8 week old Bernese Mountain Dogs (brothers from same litter- first time breeder, not over breed, never abused), after 3 or 4 months we started seeing signs of aggression towards each other and one of them showed aggression towards humans. After a family member got bit trying to separate the two from fighting, our vet referred us to Dan, which I was opposed to as I felt I knew everything I needed to know about dogs and felt it was ridiculous to have to hire someone come train dogs that lives as well as our dogs do to be a domestic animal.......I lost that battle and we hired Dan. Dan and Kathy came immediately, they tough us so much.....boy was I ignorant! The time, effort and detailed service Dan provided was exceptional and extremely effective. I have much respect for Dan and highly recommend his services. Before posting this review I did take a look at other reviews. Some has similar experience, however to the ones that posted negative reviews I think your reviews are very unfair for many reasons including but not limited to :1) You called Dan for professional help, he needs to evaluate your animal based on his observation, not what you reported to him as it is generally bias in your favor. At the same time he also needs to evaluate us as dog owners/ handlers.2) Generally when you call Dan your dog(s) have demonstrated behavior issues LONG before making that call, therefore weeks or months after you actually needed his services. He has a fiduciary responsibility to his clients to be honest, abundantly clear so there are no misunderstandings or mincing of words or potential incident .....people tend to recreate history for their benefit.3) I asked him not to sugar coat our situation as we have young children and a very active home. He did not and NO ONE should want to put their family in harms way. Instead of being critical to a professional because of the words he used, his delivery or because he sprayed your dog with citronella spray, the same spray he puts in his own mouth.....perhaps you should be grateful for his effectiveness, honesty, and providing you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about your animal and the health, safety and welfare of you and your family! Behavior issues in dogs can not be fixed by everyone holding hands and signing Kumbaya, you need someone straight forward and direct.THANK YOU DAN AND KATHY....YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!

Dan has been wonderful to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable and genuinely loves what he does. He gave us simple tools to manage our dog’s fear aggression and separation anxiety while building confidence in us as owners. We appreciated his straightforward approach and his timely response. Definitely worth the time and money -highly recommend.

Dan is the real deal. I would recommend anyone who wants a well behaved healthy dog to have at least one session with Dan. He and Kathy are the dream team. I have picked up bad habits over the years and desperately needed Dan”s expertise to help our family. Dan is amazing to watch. He has a gift that he generously shares with others. His love and compassion for dogs is transparent. His knowledge of canine behavior is extensive. I wouldn’t call anyone else but Dan. Dan helped us with our 12 year old French Bulldog accept a new family member. And he’s helping us train our new Baby Rottie become an obedient member of our “pack”. We love you Dan and Kathy. ❤️

After having my dog for 2 and a half years, he had started to show serious signs of aggression. My family (myself included) had become too soft and lax with my dog and he had taken advantage. Dan came in and taught all of us how to properly train the dog and teach him that he is not the alpha of our family. I had seen a comment mentioned that Dan had pepper sprayed someone’s dog, but what he uses is nothing but a citrus spray and I have seen numerous times him spray it into his own mouth to show that it is not harmful. You can tell he genuinely cares about dogs and gave us all many useful tools to keep my dog happy and in line. He is definitely a straight shooter but that is what you need to hear sometimes. I would definitely recommend Dan to anyone who needs a dog trainer. I love his approach that he teaches YOU how to train the dog so that when he leaves you have the tools you need to keep up the good work. 5 stars!

Dan and Cathy have restored hope that was all but lost in our home. Our pack consists of an 11-year old GSP male, 13-month old Great Dane female and four month old male Great Dane. Seemingly out of the blue a few days ago, the female viciously attacked our GSP twice in 24 hours. After two trips to the vet, stitches, staples, drains and a near-death experience for our dog (not to mention me being bitten and my daughter being traumatized), we were beside ourselves about what to do and a few friends made the recommendation. The same day I reached out to Dan, he called me back realizing the urgency and set up an appointment with us within a day. Our session was life-changing and eye-opening. We now have the tools we didnt realize we needed to successfully manage the pack. For the reviewers who seemed to be personally offended by feedback/guidance Dan may have provided, after experiencing TWO ferocious attacks in my home... Dan knows how bad it can get which is probably why he is direct. And I now realize it after having this experience how lucky we got that it wasnt even worse. This is important stuff and cannot be sugar-coated and it is important that pet owners are open to feedback as part of the process. This is not personal - it is highly practical and helpful. Dan and Cathy are miracle workers and I cannot thank them enough!

Dan and Kathy have really made a difference with my dogs and I could not be more grateful. I have two young Pitt mixes, one of whom was incredibly anxious and destructive. Walks were a task due to excess pulling on the leashes and both of them were extremely reactive when other dogs walked by or even on the other side of the street. Dan and Kathy spent the time explaining not only how to correct the behavior but why my pups were acting the way they were. After just one session and following the guidelines that they set for us, my husband and I can’t believe the change we have seen already! Walks are enjoyable, they are listening, and we have two calm, happy dogs that add nothing but pure joy to our lives. I cannot put into words how thankful we are that Dan was able to help us. I highly recommend Dan Trains Dogs to anyone who needs a little push to restore order and peace in their pack.

Dan spoke with me in the phone a few years back regarding a very difficult situation I was faced with regarding my dog and a newborn son on the way.Ill say this, he is a straight shooter. I needed to hear what he had to say. However, it could have been said with a little more compassion and understanding vs. telling me I live in Disneyland and making me feel like I was an idiot. He is very knowledgable on animal behavior. I just think a lesson in human behavior may be in order for Dan.

Dan came to our home for our 9 month old Texas Heeler. Prior to his visit we discussed our concerns with our dog. We let him know that she was well behaved but that she was timid and not trusting of strangersaround our family.Dan showed up at our house and within a few minutes had sprayed the dog with pepper spray solely because she was growling at him. Our dog immediately urinated and deficated all over the living room and sofa. He told us that this let him know that she was a Beta. Everyone already knew that. This set the entire visit up to be a failure. We were confused as to why he would do this to a dog that he was told was timid and that was simply growling at him. So the session progresses and he continually talks about himself and how great he is. Barely pays attention to the dog and just wanted to teach us how to walk her on the leash with a pronged collar. At the end of the visit he tells us to call him at any time if we have issues. Four and a half months later we call him because we are continuing to see the same issues with our dog. He immediately starts yelling and swearing at my wife and berating her for what he perceives we are not doing. My wife called him out for his approach and language to which he States he just lost one of his dogs. We had already been told this and were not expecting his call back for a few days. I then call Dan and speak with him about how he spoke to my wife. I had to demand that he call my wife back to apologise before we would continue to work with him. He was reluctant to do so but finally agreed. Much more to this story but... Afterwards my wife and I decided that we would no longer work with Dan. If you value how your treated, find another trainer. Dansprice tag is high. His approach is extremely heavy handed and lacks results. Hes also a loose cannon. His receptionist Kathy was the only positive.

I cant speak to this mans work with dogs, but I do know that in the 20 minutes I spoke to him on the phone, it was the most condescending conversation Ive ever had in my life. I realize that if people are reaching out to a trainer for help, then there are steps they need to take to further educate themselves, but he made me feel as if I shouldnt even be living with two dogs. If he is indeed as great with dogs as he bragged to be, thats awesome and Im glad that hes been helping people out there, but talking to people the way that he spoke to me isnt the way to gather new clients.

I will never forget the day he came to my home that day in December and said “she is trainable with the right owner” .I had adopted a cane corse. She had been returned to the shelter in Brooklyn 2x after being removed from the original owner. She had been abused. I wanted so desperately to save her. She was great for the first two weeks. By the third week she would show signs of aggression to anybody around me . She was protecting me. She had been abused and left outside in all sorts of weather. She was picked up by the ASPCA two times from the previous owner for signs of abuse. Before being returned 2x after that . Why she was able to go through this two times with an abuser I’ll never know... anyway I forgot how I was referred to him but I found him and he came to my house. Within five minutes when he walked in my door he knew right away that I was scared. I’ll never forget his words “she is trainable with the right owner” after debating on putting her to sleep, I just couldn’t do it . Even though she was showing signs of aggression to everybody around me even my six-year-old daughter. I did find the right owner and she still alive today eight years later dying of only of old age. She found the right owner and I saved her life because of this man’s honesty. Within the two hours he spent with her made me realize a whole lot . He helped me become a better dog owner for the short time I kept her until finding her the proper owner. He knew how to handle her! I look at him as her life saver...not me thank you Dan ....8 years later she is still alive but dying only of old age ❤️

He trained our rescue we brought home .Our dog wanted to kill our cat and he was able to stop that.He trained us to work with our dog and build on his initial training. It has been itver 4 years and my dog is perfect with his commands well worth the money .Im just now leaving the review because im reffering a friend but that is a testament to how great of a job he did after 4 years.I read some of the negative reviews and i inow the man cares about animals. He probably just has no compassion for bad dog owners and neither do I.If you want to complain about his instruction you shouldnt own a dog.My wife and i had a wonderful experience because we were willing to receive his instruction and guidance and in turn we have a wonderful well behaved dog.Your dog follows the Alpha and if your a poor alpha you cant have a dog .I am now reffering my friend who just got a dog.
