They need to replace Ron, I and my daughter had such a bad experience with him on two occasions. On 11/24/2024 and 12/01/2024. He does not know how to talk to people very unprofessional. Rude when he talks. Another he doesnt look you in the eye when you ask him questions. Asked me how you going to take care of a dog if you work 40 hours a week and this was over the phone. Omg I have a dog already since 2015. Very well loved and taking care of.Stop be nice give to people who care and are looking to adopt dogs or cats. I get it your place that is funded by programs and donations. Someone needs to look into these places out here that are funded. With or with out you I will get another dog. Ruff Ruff!!!
Last year my husband and I attempted to adopt. After completing the lengthy application the only actions that took place was the run around. The information provided in the application was extremely intrusive especially when the results yielded no cooperation from the Organization mandating the information. I would not recommend this alleged Rescue to anyone. We went to visit the Atlas site and we were not let in. From that point on we recognized this was not a rescue (loosely defined) we wanted to be linked to. Poor beautiful babies wanting a forever home. This place is money and race motivated. Karma is all I can state.
I called BOBBI to ask if they had room for my pup that needs a new home and she brushed me off because she wasnt working today...And told me to call one of her locations to get information. Once I told her the breed I have, she automatically said no and brushed me off... very unprofessional. At least her staff was polite and helpful on the phone. I wouldnt leave my pup in her hands to find him a home. She barely cared about my concerns!
Best thing that ever happened to us is Bobbi and the strays. We have welcomed our two kittens and they are so much joy and love ❤️ Adopt do not shop. Thank you for taking care of ones in need.
Went in for a quick bite to go and a cup of coffee.. The food was hot and fresh and the coffee was strong and tasty. The only disappointment was the ordering process and the wait. I had to repeat the order 3 times and kept asking for the coffee to drink while I waited for the food order. Didnt get the coffee until I had to remind them for the third time AFTER my food order was ready. Next time I will order food to stay just to see if that works better.
I was looking to adopt a puppy and stumbled across this shelter. I did an application online and went by the same day to see the area and possibly just speak to a worker about further information because the website isn’t that informative. Met this kind man who gave me Ron’s phone number and said to contact him for any information and to possibly push my application process. Ron however was completely unprofessional. He was being racist about my employers name saying “hmmm never heard that one before what that’s Chinese?” And chuckling under his breath. Then when he asked why my brother who is 28 stays home all day “what’s wrong with him? Kind of odd for a grown man to be living at home and not have a career?” My brother has austism and Crohn’s disease. When asking about home visit he said “you know we have to do a home check especially in that area” like ??? He was frustrated that I applied as a 19 year old but I was unaware of that being an issue because other locations say 18 and older. He was talking so rudely to me, like if you don’t like your job, please seek another career because animals like that deserve proper love and care. There was just so much wrong with this guys communicative skills. Even the girl doing my nails was like “who and why is speaking to nastily towards you”. I recommended Bideawee.
I surrendered my dog, he’s the cutest little thing ever . But it had to be done. Ik he’s in very good hands and will be treated very kindly and good. Everyone there is so sweet and have such a good soul ❤️.
This establishment not only allows racism but mistreatment of animals and absolute favoritism for the biggest spender ! At my time at Bobby and the strays these animals endured not only negligence but abuse by a worker called genene. She is larger woman with bulging eyes who uses her authority to belittle workers and bully animals who are clearly suffering from behavioral issues. Ron and Bobby tolerate this behavior as they are not in office most days!! They only accept their friends and what they consider as good people which are normally high income white individuals to adopt and foster animals with no experience of fostering or adopting. It is clear that these animals are not safe or prioritized here. Donations made at this establishment are clearly not utilized and supplies is hoarded in the back until it expires! These people, besides Juan, do not care about the well being of such animals and deserve to be exposed!
Very unprofessional people at this animal shelter. People are very rude and disrespectful. This shelters need to be closed down immediately. They don’t take care of the dogs, they do not clean and bathe any of the dogs. No hygienic treatment for any animal in that facility. It’s just very sad to see this in nyc I would expect a lot better. The supervisor Ron needs to find a better job if he isn’t happy with helping animals.
We got our cat from them amazing experience very nice staff at the Atlas location i totally recommend meet mango
I tried to adopt a cat here months after one of my babies passed away from old age. We love cats and we are good cat parents. However, the owner didnt even care to meet us. We visited the location at Atlas Mall at normal business hours. She saw us outside and didnt come to the front. We waited and we decided to knock. She didnt greet us, she just stared at us. I was polite and told her we are looking to adopt. She replied if you really want to adopt go to the nyc shelterand dismissed us.There is a reason why I was at her location and not at the animal shelter. All rescues deserve an opportunity, also, we are in queens and wanted something close by (less travel stress for the cat). Sad. Seems to me like this women hoards her animals. Gave us a bad first impression...
A pure scamThey took my dog and never let me see him again. Not only that, they promised me Id be able to have him back after I was more financially stable. Do not give your animals to these people
The founder Bobbi is so dedicated to her work and the place takes very seriously the well-being of its four legged creatures.
The owner is very rude! I have to rehome my dog and was shamed for it. Obviously most owners do not want to give up their animals and it is hard enough on us already. We called your place hoping to put them in a nice environment and you shame me? what kind of owner are you? it should not matter the reason of giving away my animal, nobody should be shamed for that. She literally said “shame on you” and proceeded to try talking me into keeping the dog. Obviously i can’t , or i wouldn’t be on the phone with you.
They could be more efficient at placing homeless pets in loving homes if they had better people skills when you call them with inquiries.I called to ask what the protocol is for adopting a kitten or young cat .The lady that answered the phone replied with a cold ,sharp tone :“Kittens grow into cats”Immediately I felt like I had said the wrong thing, so I then went on to explain that it was for my grandson …she immediately cut me off and said :“We don’t do that “!! , Again with a very sharp condescending tone .I replied “what do you mean ?”She said “it’s the parents that have to come in and apply “I thought to myself “ what if my grandson lives with me and I’m his guardian??But I went on to explain to the woman that my grandson is 14 YO , lives with his mom who is my daughter and with his dad . He has been wanting a cat ever since he was a very small child , his parents have agreed to it , now is finally the right time and I , his grandma am the one wanting to give him this wonderful gift . This is why I’m doing the research and making calls but of course he and his mom would come in to do the paperwork. After this explanation she referred me to a shelter in Brooklyn which I did visit but could not find a kitten or very young cat . The cats available were lovely but most of them had behavior issues .I have gotten a beautiful kitten since and my grandson and his family are over the moon .But I still wonder if this first interaction with this woman at this shelter had been a welcoming , helpful and positive one (not rude and condescending) perhaps one of their cats might have been adopted by a caring family.
I found Bobbi via Google when I was trying to rehome my 9 yr old Yorkie Pharaoh. I began working away from home and I tried multiple dog sitters/ walkers but Pharaoh simply refused to go with them. Having him at home alone for 10 hours wasn’t something I could live with. This was a rather difficult decision and making sure that he wasn’t going to end up in a kill shelter and would land with a loving home was paramount for me.I reached out to Bobbi via phone and her assistance shared he would have her contact me. Later that evening, I got a call from her. She asked me to submit a pic and information about my dog. I complied and she was very responsive. Over the next couple days we went back and forth with the logistics. She reassured me that she did have space for him, that he would be cared for and that she wouldn’t let him go until she was convinced he’d be well taken care of. We made a plan for me to bring him. Bawling, I showed up on 9/18/23 to surrender him. Listen, I read all the reviews and I heard the complains about Bobbi and how she needs to work on decorum and phone manners. I’m not making excuses for that, however under the slightly abrasive demeanor, she has a heart for these animals and handled both me and Pharaoh with care. That day, she hugged and consoled me and took Pharaoh and immediately gave him kisses.I filled out paperwork and gave her all his documents (vet, microchip info, registration with the city) and the surrender fee. Bobbi gave me updates on him and after two weeks Pharaoh was placed with a retired family with other Yorkies who could give him the care and attention he deserves. Seeing him with them was bitter sweet but I knew it was the right thing to do.Bobbi was kind enough to send me a photo of him when I was struggling with missing him. I know she may not sound like the sweetest via the phone but I promise she loves the animals and is committed to doing the right thing.
I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful this place is. We unfortunately had to give up our dog as we could not take care of her anymore, and Bobbi was so kind and understanding. The staff spent so much time with us, explaining everything, and were so patient. These people genuinely care deeply about the animals, they are not in this for money. I could not think of a better place to have brought my dog and I know they will find her the best home and that she is so happy there in the meantime. The animals here are so loved and well cared for and the staff here, especially Bobbi, are incredible people. They are very thorough and selective with the adoption process, and it is because they truly care about the well-being of the animals. Highly recommend!
Place seems to have pretty unprofessional people and sketchy methodology for placing animals, like others have mentioned in reviews.
What a terrible experience!!We’ve been looking at dogs through their site for a couple days and decided we had wanted to go in to see the dogs before submitting the application. We drove in to the Glendale location and got up to the door to see that they are only letting people in through appointments. We looked through the door and the whole staff saw us and did not bother to come out and tell us any info. We decided to call and they said it’s only through appointments. We mentioned that they should be more clear about that on their site because NOTHING mentioned this and they didn’t seem to care. We were looking at the dogs through the side window and they came to aggressively shut the curtains on us so we couldn’t see the dogs! Honestly, it ruined our experience in wanting to work with them.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND BOBBI AND STRAYS. My 55 year old brother was getting out of the hospital and wanted a companion and wanted a senior rescue. I called to get information for him. Whoever I spoke to was rude, intimidating and asked questions like “why cant your brother call?”!!! You would think that they would be glad that we were looking to adopt. I don’t know how they are still open. According to the reviews, I’m not the only one that dealt with this. Maybe she needs to retire. It’s a shame since we live a few blocks away.
I wanted to write this review to share my thoughts on Bobbi and her organization. Bobbi is such an amazing person who is doing amazing things. I had a personal situation that I was dealing with and went into one of her rescue shelters and saw first hand how well her rescues are taken care of. It was such a clean place and it even felt calming. If anyone needing to adopt a pet in my opinion should check out Bobbi and the stays. She’s thorough with the adoption process, but for good reason. She genuinely cares for the well being of these rescues and after speaking with her I realize how real and truthful she is.In fact everyone there was so nice and helpful caring for those beautiful animals. My daughter which is 9 was also so impressed by Bobbi and her team that she now wants to volunteer at her shelter, when she gets a bit older that is. Bobbi, you make me a believer that there are good people in this world and the work that you do is invaluable Thank you!!!
BEST Shelter ever. They really match adopter & adoptee! They are HONEST!
When a precious stray adult cat claimed a permanent spot at the side door of the Doctors office where I work, I set out on a mission to get her off the streets and give her a chance at getting a permanent home. Having my own cats all my life I knew she was not feral as she allowed herself to be petted, greeted all the patients and ate treats right out of my hand. I called many rescues and when no one way able to help me I was quickly losing hope-then I remembered Bobbi and the Strays-a rescue I had long admired. As soon as Joanne picked up the phone I knew my kitty would be safe. Joanne listened patiently and reassured me greatly. She put me in touch with Bobbi. As an animal lover I felt honored to speak to Bobbi in person. I respect her so much for all the years of remarkable work she has done. Bobbi was incredible and the next day my stray kitty was in her safe hands at Atlas Mall which is more of a beautiful, clean and loving sanctuary than a shelter environment. I have read some of the negative reviews online coming from people who want to adopt but were rejected and I understand your disappointment, however the one goal that we all should have in common is to do what is best for the animal and we need to trust in Bobbis vast experience and knowledge of finding the right match. Having an animal is a lifelong commitment and that is Bobbis goal. Thank you Bobbi and The Strays!
The first time I went to this place was back in 2016/2017 when my brother made a careless mistake a let my dog runaway. One of the neighbors in the area took her to this shelter where we went to pick her up. At first they were not trying to give us back OUR DOG that we traveled 30 minutes out of the way for. Today I called them to see if they had an availability to take in a couple cats. Instead of just saying no they didn’t have any space the owner decided to pick at me and tell me it’s my fault that the one cat I decided to foster continues to run away and get pregnant. She was very rude and I suggest if you’re a person of color to please take your business elsewhere.
First and foremost I will say this is a great organization. They truly care about the animals they bring in. With that said, here is my story. I had been looking for a dog for my kids. We looked online and were about to go the breeder route. Then I saw Bobbi and the Strays while in the Glendale area. I decide to go inside and check them out. Wow! The faculty and facility are supurb. Faculty are knowledgeable and you can tell they really care about every animal in there and as far as the facility its extremely clean. Ive witnessed firsthand how theyre in there cleaning first thing in the morning before the place even opens to the public. Im so happy we adopted a pet instead of buying one from a breeder and unknowingly might have been supporting something like a puppy mill. We are so much in love with this organization and the difference theyre making that we are actually in the process of a adopting a second pet from them. All the best to anyone who reads this and trust me when I tell you that you cant go wrong with Bobbi and the Strays.
One of the hardest, most emotional things Ive ever had to do, was surrender my pet. My heart was breaking, but my and my familys life circumstances gave us no choice. Bobbi & the Strays was the only organization that I even considered. Bobbi is a fierce advocate and lover of dogs and cats alike. She cares for them as if they are her own children! She has devoted her life to making sure these babies find good, loving homes. The facility is clean, and the staff is unbelievably competent, patient and friendly. Our Shelly Bean was adopted into a very loving home, giving my family the peace of mind that we needed so much. There are wonderful cats and dogs just waiting for someone to love and take care of them. Why purchase when you can adopt from Bobbi and receive from your new four-legged little family member unconditional love and gratitude. A big thanks also to Tivoli Jewelers who sponsored Shelly Beans cage. I cant say enough about this worthwhile organization!
Thank you to Bobbi and Louise for uniting us with our new family member. We love our little girl so much, she’s the sweetest dog ever. This organization is so caring. Bobbi and her team work tirelessly to make sure these beautiful animals all get a good home, the work that they do is so admirable. Louise is also so lovely, she answered our every question and was the one who introduced us to our little poodle. I cannot sing enough praises for Bobbi, Louise and the entire Bobbi and the Strays team. Wonderful wonderful organization!!
I can not say enough positive things about Bobby and the Strays. We were able to meet Benjamin on Sunday. All the staff and volunteers were very knowledgeable and helpful. They are very compassionate and caring people who take such loving care of all their rescue animals! The shelter is spotless ! Thank you for everything you guys do every single day to help and care for these beautiful animals! I only wish I could take them all home!
TREATED RUDE,we when here to adopt a dog. GLENDALE LOCATION.. did not know we had to do an appl. ahead of time. we when to open the door the girl w glasses and curly hair ran out grabBed the door from my hand ,stepped outside then proceeded to read the sign on the door, she never gave us eye contact( i guess because we are black) did not say your welcome. just went inside locked the door like we where go to come in any way, she was very rude and disrespectful to us,racists.
I volunteered very briefly years ago. The staff and owner has always had a bad reputation for rudeness and manners-low class people that act like they’re the only ones helping animals. Even among other shelters they have a bad reputation. You’d think with so many bad reviews and a bad reputation they’d change but they haven’t. I guess Bobbi is content with her small group of donors and doesn’t understand she could do even better. Their bad attitude has actually done damage to the animals bc who wants to adopt from people like that?!
I love this place....all the animals are running around loose. Place looks and smells clean. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I adopted 2 dogs; ages 13 and 14. One passed away 6 mons later, the staff was very kind. They even sent me a condolences card.
This place practices some shady dealings, had them call references and my vet, set up an appointment to meet one of the dogs. So I then proceed to take a whole day off from my job, only for them to call me and say “someone else adopted the dog” why would you make an appointment with me if you’re going against the whole “we don’t do first come first serve” mentality? If you wanted me to come sooner to meet the dog you could’ve said so. This shelter is shady and I will never waste my time with them again. Thanks for making me waste a whole day off!
I am a so grateful for Bobbi & the Strays. It is very liberating to know that there are still individuals that sincerely care about the well being of animals. I recently found a lost dog, after waiting for over an hour in the rain I then then called numerous shelters to find out where he would be safe and cared for. Bobbi and the strays staff were the most detailed and sincere when I spoke to them. So I followed up with them and they immediately began making accommodations that same day for the dog I was bringing in. When the dog and I got to the Glendale location the Bobbi & the Strays team gave the little guy a warm welcome and all the attention he needed. They even welcomed me back to check in on him. You guys are a godsend. I am truly grateful for you guys, and your mission. Thank you for all that you do and please keep up the great work.
We had a bad experience with this shelter. My family went to the center a couple of weeks ago. We met an 8 week old collie and loved her. We put an application in. The lady working there said our application looked very strong and that a decision would be made Tuesday afternoon, as there were many applications in for her. She told me I should call Tuesday. I called on Tuesday and no decision was made. By Friday we still hadnt heard anything. My husband called (what I believe to be) as Bobbis cell phone. He inquired about the puppy. He was told that she would only be adopted to a family who had prior collie experience and a large backyard. My issues with this place are with their customer service. When we visited the center, someone should have been honest with us and given us this information about what type of family they were looking for. We should have been told that they were looking for someone with collie experience and a large yard. Had we known that we wouldnt have even put an application in. They let numerous people put applications in, just be honest and say what youre looking for. It would also have been nice to receive a phone call telling us that our application was not approved. We waited around all week hopeful to be accepted and did not receive an answer until we called. Ive also emailed my concerns to this company and never heard back.
Terrible experience. I couldn’t adopt here. Please adopt somewhere else.1) Impatient staff - I came in here with my family looking to adopt a cat. They want everyone in your household to be present when youre looking to adopt. But, they have zero patience with young children. My 5yr old son wanted to hold, pet, and play with some of the friendly cats we were interested in, but the staff here would not let my son do anything. We also had to wait for two different staff members to escort us inside the Cattery. The first guy who brought us into the Cattery had to leave five minutes after entering with us, so we had to wait for another staff member who had zero patience with us and just wanted us to go back to the main office to decide on a cat and fill out the adoption application. This staff member also knew nothing about many of the cats.2) No dedicated room or area to bond with a cat - The Cattery is so small there’s hardly any room to move around. One of the cats we were interested in adopting was inside a cage located just outside the front entrance of the Cattery, a friendly black cat, female, 6 months old. We tried spending time with her, but there was literally nowhere to stand and we had to keep moving out of the way because her cage was located between two doors where staff members kept entering and exiting. Very annoying, and no one seemed to care! They made us feel like we just need to look at a cat for two seconds through a cage and make a decision.3) Application process takes way too long - Bobbi & The Strays accepts multiple applications for every cat. They also require a home visit by a staff member, which you must pass in order to adopt. Their adoption process results in their cats living at the shelter much longer than needed. Don’t go here expecting to adopt a cat and bring it home in a day or two. After I filled out our application for the black cat, I was told I’d receive a phone call in a few days to schedule my home visit. Well, no one ever called me so I called the office a week later to follow up. It wasn’t until now that I was told over the phone that they had multiple applications on the same cat (Bobbi & The Strays shouldve been forthcoming about this when we were there.) They said their staff will make a decision, and I’d be notified either way if we were chosen or not to adopt. But, they didnt know how soon this would happen or provide me with an ETA. This is absurd given the fact that they have so many cats in need of a home. I even went back to the shelter about two weeks later to see if the black cat was still there, and she was, still locked inside her cage, still waiting to be adopted.4) Denied adoption - About 3 1/2 weeks later I finally received a phone call from Bobbi & The Strays telling me that we were not chosen to adopt the black cat and someone else adopted her. They refused to tell me why I wasn’t chosen, only telling me that “The owners of Bobbi & The Strays make the final decision and thats all the information we can tell you. The worst part is after denying us, Bobbi & The Strays didnt bother to ask if I was interested in another cat, or if I wanted to come back and see other cats. Nothing!! Just Goodbye and hung up the phone!5) Overall - I cant recommend this place to anyone looking to adopt. There are many other shelters on Long Island that will treat you, and the animals, with more respect. I ended up adopting a wonderful cat from another shelter with no hoops to jump through, and I was able to bring my cat home the very same day. The staff at Bobbi & The Strays are rude and obnoxious. Their motto is “Adopt Don’t Shop” but their experience will make you feel differently. Please adopt somewhere else.
This place is terrible. The owner Bobbi is so rude, disrespectful to people. She will not even take time to give interviews to possible candidates. She make us go 3 time to the place and we called to confirm before going for the 4th time and was really rude and disrespectful to us. She also said that because we didn’t owned a house we are not good candidates, also because the application was under my friend’s name is and he is a senior he was not going to live that long to take care of any dog younger than 10 years old. Also mentioned that she was not giving us a chance to adopt the Collie puppy because we never owned one Collie. We are good people. Financially stable, great vet available for the puppy and my friend just lost his dog of 17 years. He always had big dogs and has lots of time to give to them. This was so devastating to us that we resided to write this review. Please do not feed this woman with any donations or even time. We also wanted to volunteer at this place and she didn’t take this in consideration. So rude. Terrible Bobbi should go to hell for treating people this way.
I had been looking for an adult cat for awhile. I found this one cat named Zorro at this location and spoke with Bobbi. The location is great and I adopted the cat.Bobbi is a character and truly cares about her animals. Some people may not respond to her but iIfelt she was an advocate and was doing what she felt is best for the animals at all times. I look forward to possibly donating my time in the future to help her as well. Thanks for everything Bobbi..
Will never go here again. The woman with blonde hair was disgusting and rude!!! Extremely misleading. I came to adopt a dog, filled out the application. Tried to walk the dog (1st red flag was that they were basically dragging him really hard with the leash when he obviously didn’t want to be walked). When it came down to purchasing, I was told that I only had to buy supplies from them which totaled out to $600 excluding the dog. I offered for them to do an apartment check beforehand and I can get the supplies elsewhere which they refused. They’re money hungry and I honestly believe they don’t care about those animals
I called Bobbi to try to bring in a very friendly neighborhood cat that is already socialized. She said they’re full, which I understand. I asked if she knew any other resources and was told “Google it. Goodbye.”Maybe try to help. I don’t want this cat getting euthanized and it’s definitely a house cat because of how socialized it is. If the namesake of the organization isn’t interested in the mission, I have to call that out.
I am sorry that I have taken so long to write this review for this wonderful shelter. Awhile ago(before the pandemic) my dog and I saw a lost dog in my Forest Hills neighborhood, but was unfortunately not able to help him at the time. He was on my mind. As luck would have it, my dog found this elderly dog hiding in bushes of a house a week later. This dog was hungry, shivering and scared. I didn’t know who to call and no one(not even 311) could help. I got the idea to call Bobbi and the Strays because my friend had adopted a dog from them. Bobbi was closing and her employee was on his way home. Yet, she made it happen! Bobbi sent an employee right away to save this dog. I am forever grateful to them!❤️
We called about rehoming a dog after circumstances left mom unable to care for them and the woman was unkind, rude, and unprofessional. She criticized us for doing what is best for the pup and gave unwelcome and unnecessary criticism, especially when telling us to just hire a dog walker..... The experience felt a bit hostile and they should not be working there. Avoid this place.
I live close to this place and my god its insane the amount of racist claims. As a black man with an Asian girlfriend I plan to not go! I believe victims and this is so many to ignore. Clean this place up and have a better attitude for your black customers.
I got my best friend from Bobbi and the Strays in Glendale. She is a beautiful little kitten. Her name is Star. I was so impressed with the service I received, that I’m going to get another little kitten from their Freeport location. Thank You so much.
What can I say perfection - we bought beautiful Nala home today -she is a blessing.I cannot say enough about Bobbie and her staff - the girls at atlas mall should be commended on their work so professional kind and informative. Louise and Mary the management staff were #1 wonderful ladies I thank them for there help in adopting our precious Nala! And once again Bobbie god bless u - you are truly an Angel on earth.Anthony and I thank u all - for all u do to save these animals and take such care and compassion in making sure they find their forever homes❤️🙏 Anthony and Kath Lifrieri jackson heights.
Avoid this rescue! We were so excited when we decided getting a dog would be perfect for our family! However after stepping into this rescue we left very discouraged.I came in with my 2 year old eager to look at and play with their dogs/puppies, hoping that I could make a decision on what dog best fit my family. After being introduced to Bobbi I was told to leave and that I was not welcome since I don’t own a house, Im going to be a new dog owner and that NO dog was a good match for my child. Overall Bobbi really was not helpful, very very rude and this truly was an upsetting outing for me and my family.
Find another shelter! They let you see a dog, fill out an application, bring your family, tell you the dog is on hold until your home visit and then they continue to show the animal and give it away without even a call or question. Its easier to adopt a child. Horrible communication and very unprofessional.. Sad to say this experience after having two dogs in our family, each for over 16 years, has truly discouraged us from adopting vs buying going forward
We were rejected from an adoption purely because we’re not local (we live an hour away from the shelter in question!). There was no mention of such a restriction in any of the prior discussions or advertisements about the rescue dog.It is this kind of bigotry and snobbism that perpetuates the ease of access to awful puppy mills. This is not the first time. They turn away otherwise good and dedicated owners out of whims and unspoken and illogical preferences. I do not recommend them and we’ll be going with another (less xenophobic) shelter.
Let me start by saying my wife and I adopted a beagle from Bobbi 10 years ago. Upon getting this housebroken dog, our new dog, Baby, proceeded to ruin our vertical blinds along with a second set of standard blinds that we replaced them with. 3 rugs later, a badly scratched up French door, stained wood floors, and a ruined windowsill we kept and loved this dog until she had to be put to sleep last week due to a bad heart and respitory failure. Not to mention the thousands of dollars we spent for medications and care the last 2 years after our Baby fell ill. We went to Bobbi last week and my wife fell in love with a little dog there and wanted to adopt it. We have some clutter in our basement due to our son moving out of our home for his job and we have some of his belongings there. And guess what? We were denied the adoption due to the clutter in our basement. We NEVER EVER put either of our two dogs in our basement over the last 20 years. Our dogs always stayed with us on the main floor of our home. They would just walk through the basement to go to our yard. This woman has lost her way!!! After donating to her establishment over the years we are terribly disappointed the type of person she has become. If you plan to adapt from her you had better have an immaculate house as thats all she seems to care about. And from other reviews it seems youd better own a home also. Also read some other reviews as I have and determine if you want to support her.I know I cannot!!!I truly hope that little dog in Atlas mall finds a wonderful home with loving parents because we were ready to take this little guy in and become part of our family.Unfortunately Bobbi has decided we were not good enough for her high standards which seem to be getting higher. Funny we were good enough 10 years ago when she needed folks to adopt, but unfortunately we no longer meet her new standards for adaption.I truly believe in her cause of saving abandoned animals but it seems she has veered of course and lost sight of what truly counts in placing these unfortunate animals.SignedHeartbroken in Middle Village.
My wife has been feeding some street kittens for 3 months. She has been literally fighting to get them a place where those 6 kittens can stay some warm place other than being outside. After calling many places, Bobbi & the Strays agreed to take all of them for $600 ($100 each). She took a Friday off from her job to get them to Bobbi.. She tried whole day to catch the kittens, but could not. From the very beginning, the staff over the phone was very rude with my wife. They were taking advantage of my wifes sympathetic corner to those stray kittens that she wanted to save and rescue. .. My wife sought my help to get cages from Bobbi & Stary. They gave us a wrong address (80-36 Cooper Ave). When we reached there, the lady over the phone acted very angry and gave us a different address to Freeport (2 Rider Pl). We did not go there and my wife somehow managed a cage from a lady nearby. On 10/2/20 around 4 pm, we reached the Freeport place with 6 kittens and a cat. As soon as a staff saw those kittens, she was complaining they are 9 months old, you said they are 5 months old . We waited for a while. The lady at the counter asked my wifes id to make a copy. Actually, they thought we might leave the kittens there, so they took her id to make a copy.. then they said they tested those cats, they had some rain worm. So they cant take them. They will take them in future after we take them away with us and make them healthy. My question is : How can we make the street cats healthy? Is not it their job to rescue them and treat them so that they become healthy?..it was just the beginning of my surprise..They asked for money because they did the test for rain worm.. Please note they were not able to give us any documented test results in writing. They charged $35 per cat and my wife paid it by credit card. Important thing to note, they asked my wife to come with cash ($600 for taking those cats) saying that they dont accept credit card. Now, they have credit card option! One staff was threating my wife that they will call cops if we leave these kittens there. My question is: Is not it my wife doing there job and helping them by rescuing those stray cats? How can they threat her?..Then the staff brought those kittens and put it in the street near my car. The other had a small sore in his ear. The staff was complaining about that also. Not only that, she kind of threw his cage in front of me and saying me sometihing ..It was beyond my imagination that these people can do this to an innocent animal...When I was driving back home, I looked at those cats inside the cage. I feel something in my heart, they were not treated the way they should be, and I promised myself to get them a place better that Bobbi & the Strays..My wife sent them videos of those kittens with high resolution photos before.. Those kittens were couple of months older than they anticipated. I believe these people wont be able to profitably sell these kittens. Therefore, they did not take them. The testing was an excuse for not to take them. I dont think they did a test at all. The lady over the phone told my wife, when my wife said she took off from her job to rescue the kittens, I dont care about your job, I only care about the kittens. I dont want the kittens to be outside, I only care about the kittens. Really??? Then, how could you let us go from your shelter without taking them??? My message to Bobbi & the Stray : If you are ...the Stary, then how come my wife is struggling and fighting for those Stray cats? Since she is doing your job, then talk to her politely. How can you charge money for some test? People like my wife are much better that you. They dont do business with helpless animals for hefty donation, tax credits and tax exemptions. They just want to help those helpless animals sincerely.
I filled out an application to adopt two kittens and I called several times. Was met with a nasty person who said they would call me back never did and every time I called I was spoken to like I was just annoying them. I wouldnt try to adopt from here ever again!
This is a lovely organization that took in a lost dog that we found and couldnt keep. Bobbi was so sweet and promised its a no kill shelter. Her staff is lovely and I am very grateful for her assistance in rescuing this adorable dog. 💕
I tried to come to the Queens location to volunteer and drop off forms to become a regular donor/sponsor. The lady who greeted me — not the owner, maybe the manager — wasn’t the friendliest, made me feel as though my volunteerism wasn’t so important, and rejected my forms to become a sponsor saying “we don’t do that” even though it was clearly listed as an option on the website; I printed out the forms from their website. Having said that, maybe their business (non-profit) is doing well enough that they can reject free money when it walks through the door; it seemed decent enough in there, and if I had to adopt an animal — all of this nonsense aside — I could see myself going there to adopt one. I was just very disappointed that I wasn’t able to volunteer and that no one ever followed up with me about my application. I work in the medical field, and — without trying to sound pretentious — do well for myself. I went there genuinely trying to find an opportunity to do good work — if even menial — for its own sake. Literally for no other reason but to feel like I was doing work for no other purpose than to do a good job without any strings attached, ego included, or as if I was trying to create some sort of bigger-picture opportunity for myself; I just wanted to clean dog s*** for its own sake — but it seems that even in this field, the human soul taints any sense of simple-minded do-goodedness by, perhaps out of some sort of weird insecurity complex, pushing someone without an agenda out the door. Oh well. I guess I’ll sell my soul for overtime instead at the hospital.
I got a cute little perfect dog from them, their process is intense and long but it’s worth it you can tell they really care about the animals.
I went to Bobbi & the Strays and found a dog I fell in love with. The staff was very kind. I bonded with the dog and the adoption was going to go through. Later I spoke with Bobbi and she told me I could not have the dog because I was too old. She said I could have an older dog but not a younger one. I am a senior citizen.I told her I had family and if anything should happen to me they would take care of the dog. She replied by saying you can’t depend on family because they never come through. Terrible thing to say. I became emotional hearing what Bobbi was saying and she said I was stressing her out.My son went to the shelter and told her he would adopt the dog and let the dog live with me. In the event anything happened to me, the dog would be his. She still refused. It was a heartbreaking experience for me.
Honestly, this place was super exciting and the pets were super sweet and well taken care of. My issue is not at all with the facility or the animals, its about the process and lack of communication. The application is a little lengthy (which is fine) and the process somewhat slow (also fine), but the communication was awful from them. When someone (in this case, not me, but the person with me), who would give the animal a phenomenal home and is super excited that they found the dog theyve been waiting for, fill out the application, and are told there arent other applications for the pup so to follow up in a few days if not contacted -- then the least they can do is 1) simply let the person know whether they are chosen or not. 2) if thats too hard, then acknowledge the phone calls when someone is checking on the status 3) call them back and inform them one way or another. It was really frustrating and sad to see someone so excited for their dream dog, to be told the chances are pretty good, and then watch them never get an answer -- not from the company on their own (which they should always do) and not when calling in to ask the status (which they also should always do) and then not even get a promised call back to inform them.I dont know if shell try again with these guys -- I wouldnt blame her at all if she didnt, after that -- but I hope they at least take this feedback to heart. Because from the outside looking in on this one, they dropped the ball a whole lot, and left a good person, with a good home who has been waiting for the right dog hanging, and thats just not fair.
NASTY SET OF RACIST PEOPLE!!! IF ZERO STARS WERE AN OPTION THEY WOULD GET IT!Update! That nasty old bat having a fit for my child to say goodbye to her dog! Or that nasty grinch at the front desk!?. From the moment you walk in all she wanted was money! You feel the tension the way these people talk to you, they yell when they speak as if they have no manners!
I don’t understand how this place is backed. That lady once refused to take a stray kitten that I found in the pouring rain. This was a few years back. Now, I am outside my daughter’s high school waiting to give her a ride home and I see a small size cat limping up and down the street. If I had a humane trap I would try to catch the kitty myself. So I called their phony organization and of course was told they don’t have the room for any cats right now. Give me a break-either you are a rescue or you are a big phony. I maintain her organization and she is the latter
I have been to this shelter , employees are nice but we were turned down to adopt a dog am I little sad but it’s ok cause we have a eye for another dog ! Thx bobbi And the strays
Horrible operation of A bunch of dummies looking for donations which I don’t think all of it goes to the animals. A rude and loud Bunch of incompetents who are incapable of properly helping animals. Think I’m wrong? Go to the shelter and see for yourself. Better of going to another shelter. There are lots of them in NY.
At Bobbi and the strays they are so helpful, and they also love the animals, so when you adopt any animal they make sure that the new home will be safe. I adopted a cat and is the best cat.
Great place the dogs and cats are well taking care of the volunteers really love all the animals it is kept very clean I enjoyed my experience there❤️❤️
I just want to say thank you so much to Mrs. Allison she has been so much help to my sister giving her advice on how to find her precious Chanel texting back and forth all weekend.
If you ever plan on getting a cat or dog here I wouldn’t recommend it. The lady here is terrible and rude and the procedures take weeks in order to get one. I would recommend adopting at puppysandkittys it’s so much better.
The best place to adopt. Louise, Tiffany and Linda are angels. They really care for the animals and look for the best homes possible.
This is a small one, but the inside is very clean and the animals are very comfortable.Let ’s look for cats. There are only four or five cats. They said that there are more options in another place, but I live nearby and I will keep looking for new Cats
Dogs looked ill, they make it hard to adopt a pet to the extent that we have stopped looking and will now buy a dog. Were hoping to give a stray a nice home. But as I said they make it to hard
This place never has dogs available. I’ve contacted them numerous times about a few dogs over the past two years and it’s always “the dog isn’t available” or “there’s several applications ahead of you” I always check their website and try to beat this said “crowd” but it never works out. Don’t adopt from this place.
Had the nerve to tell me don’t get anymore animals like miss don’t play with me and then your gonna try and say it’s a $200 fee itch bye bye beddy bye bye
This location was closed at the beginning of the Pandemic and suffered some damages since, however they can be contacted on-line and are still working hard at finding Forever-Homes for Animals-in-Need. They are an excellent organization and a No-Kill shelter.
I was there today very skeptical after reading all reviews about the place and when I went there I was very surprised people who worked there very nice and very helpful and they help me answer all my questions I have it and explain to me how the adoption works. ... it was very clean and organized ... I was very happy 😄
I went to donate unopened dog food as they are great people who really try to help the animals. a very worthy place.
Our fur baby passed away and we had things to donate and they were very sympathetic to our situation. It is good to know that her things will help another fur baby.
Wonderful shelter!DONT SHOP - ADOPT ❤
Called them to donate cat litter. Bobby was very friendly and eventhough theyre still close to the public, i was able to drop off the cat litter.
My neighbor passed away and her dog was wandering and these beautiful people came and picked up the dog and rescued her they are Angels and even gave me some treats for my babies great hob guys
I called and talked to Bobbi, told her that I was disabled and my situation why I had to give up my dog and she told me to sleep in the streets so I would not have to give my dog up. SMFH!!!! If anyone can say that to another human being thats not a place that I would want my dog!!!!!
ABSOLUTELY rude. I googled cat rescue in queens, and found this organization. Last was RUDE, said she dont know, but dont call here. Were a sufferer not a rescue. Totally unprofessional
In terms of trying to volunteer the woman on the phone was very rude and hung up on me twice (at first I thought the phone call dropped because its weird for someone to hang up instead of just saying they dont need anymore volunteers)Anyway if youre trying to volunteer I guess they dont need any help and are extremely rude.
The place is really clean and the staff are really helpful. If youre trying to adopt a dog though its an arduous process.
People at the shelter were very helpful and love the cats dearly.
Very nasty egotistical woman who clearly cares much more about herself & her own needs than that of poor helpless struggling animals
This Bobbi guy is so ryde and evil.He told me that I couldnt adopt a dog because I dont own a house and that Im too poor to even feed myself. He deserves a lawsuit .
Immaculate place, warm hearted people who really care about the animals. You can adopt from them and make food donations. A wonderful place.
Great place that works with shelters to adopt critters. I made a few donations here. Hope it helps in some way.
Horrible place. Try calling to bring in a stray I found on the road. They hang up on me multiple times.
Rescued my dog through Bobbi and its been awesome!
Employees need customer service training! Too much money for strays. Be kind to others in the new year.
My son wants to volunteer dog walking....but still not called...still waiting. Been almost a month wait now. :(
Everything they want to do online and im not savvy with my little phone. Very unhappy
Staff seem to genuinely care for the pets and are protective of them, which I think is a good thing.
Very Professional. To make sure the pet fits you. Professional
Employees are kind and respectful. Location and environment is comforting and clean.
They are very caring and understanding. Bobbi made my situation easier.
Most helpful with my adoption of a new cat, very helpful. Will recommend to my friends
Its sucks you have to wait 20 minutes for a slice of pizza To find out its too sweet
Amazing person this Bobby and her love for pets and humans are the same. 💘😻 🐈 🐕
They are good if you want to adopt a small dog
Very terrible people. I had a cat that was inside and outside she loved to go outside during the summer time for the sun and to play and lived inside with me. This random lady came up to me asking if she can take her because she’s an outside cat when in fact she isn’t and is mine.. for 5 years. She was spayed and updated with all her shots. She have came days after days asking if she can rescue her when she didn’t need any recusing as she lived at home with me. One morning the lady came and took my cat as i was getting ready for work after i told her no multiple times. I haven’t gotten my girl back in almost 2 years and i will indeed be looking for her. The lady blocked my number after a couple days of me asking for updates of where she is at. I don’t know how you guys hire people to come to our neighborhoods to take OUR animals. She looked like she was a drunk also.
I had a great experience from beginning to end. They’re very attentive, well informed and my sons and I are well beyond happy with Joie! 😁
Really cute dogs but the folks were rude on the phone. When I called to ask about a dogs temperament they replied - I mean its a dog and were generally uninterested in helping me.Their adoption is not first come first serve but based on their standards. Standards that are pretty opaque. They dont adopt out young pups to folks who live in apartments if the can help it.The process put me off. It seemed like they generally wouldnt consider me for a dog even though Ive been a foster dog parent for a few years now. I really wanted to rescue a dog but after my experience with this org and a few others I ended up paying for a pup. I will keep fostering puppies but the process really needs to be rethought.
Clean facility with helpful staff. Love the work they’re doing!
Fantastic place, the people who work here are fantastic and very helpful, they go above and beyond!
I love everything about this place and the staff. Go donate!
Went to look at a English bulldog the female there was very rude and wouldnt allow us too, never again will I donate to this place.
I didn’t physically go to this pet adoption place but I heard it was full of stray animals.
I just want to personally thank Bobbi and the Strays for their wonderful help with my cats! You guys are amazing and do wonderful work! Very helpful and informative and caring. I 100 percent recommend people checking them out!
I love the way I seen them love and take care of their animals.
The place smells nice, the people are friendly and helpful. All the animals look well taking care of and Happy. I love that cats and dogs are loose to play with each other.
Can’t comment yet on the adoption process as I just filled out the application however after spending a few days visiting different local animal shelters this place was immaculate & the animals all looked very well cared for which is great. This shelter let me spend a bit of time with the cats as well which was helpful in the decision making process. In addition, the woman working there was willing to let me in even though I was a bit late which I truly appreciated. Even if my application is not approved, it’s worth checking out this shelter if you are looking for a cat or dog.Update : I was approved and the home visit was super simple and straight forward. Thanks for helping me find the perfect cats for our home !
I just adopted a cute little dog from here. The animals are well taken care of and the care givers simply love all the animals in their care. It is a very well kept place.
The people who work here are nice and keep this place clean.
Let me preface this review by saying that my rating is indicative of the adoption process, not the organization itself. I fully support the mission of this shelter, and I’m happy that they are doing good work to make sure stray animals are taken off the street and cared for. That being said, the experience with the adoption process was terrible. After applying for a cat, scheduling a meet time, commuting several hours to the shelter in Queens, meeting with the cat, doing a virtual home tour, and purchasing / prepping everything for the expected adoption of the cat, the shelter representatives rescinded their approval of the adoption and gave the cat to another applicant. They stated they had concerns with the safety of the apartment, even after discussing the accommodations that would be made to ensure their safety concerns were addressed and preparing for the transport of the cat.Not only was it unprofessional to inform of the decision change last minute, it felt discriminatory- and their suggestion to “look elsewhere, it will be easier” was disheartening after so much time was spent preparing for the expected cat adoption. It’s ultimately great that the cat found an adopter, but given the time spent working with the shelter reps and preparing for the cat, their decision to rescind the approval seemed unjustified.
Great for the community. Great for the animals who get to find homes through them 👍
My wife and I visited Bobbi & the Strays to adopt a puppy last week. The staff was kind and patient with us and let us choose the dog we would like to adopt on a tablet. Unfortunately, the puppy we chose was in a foster home and we were not able to see her. But the staff offered us to meet with other dogs we might be interested. So, we decided to meet with two fur friends. The experience was great. The staff who brought the dogs knows them pretty well and let us interact with the dogs as long as we wanted. We changed our mind after meeting with one of the dogs and decided to adopt him. The adoption application is submitted to Bobbi & the Strays and finger crossed!
Where is this place!! Spent 2 hours walking around looking for it .. still not there... all I wanted was a cat!
Excellent shelter to find and adopt a forever companion in need of a GOOD, LOVING home. Better attention to the individual, posible adopter.
Amazing professional people!!! We love Coby
Staff are really friendly. They willing to work with you even through the pandemic.
Dropped off an in-kind donation for this dog shelter
I really like Bobbi.God bless you.
Small but well-run private shelter.
Lost my cat very nice people very sympathetic
Great place she really love animals
This place is so bad the costumer serves is so rude and its kind of dirty
The woman that runs it is odd, and sorta bullies you when you go in and try to adopt
In-kind donation to this deserving animal shelter
Doing a great service helping Gods angels.
Please adopt from this great place.
Youre amazing and caring thank you for all your help
Very kind n helpful!!
Terrible experience here. Well, terrible is an understatement.
Great atmosphere great people working with the animals
This place is a joke. How do you have fifty applications for one dog. Then they tell me to go to another shelter. Ok so I did
Get the information that i wanted
Love them
Cats

Never anyone around
It was ok.
Was never there!!!
Animals and good care!
I thought so differently of this shelter before today. After just now speaking to Bobbi, she left me very upset. They helped me rehoming a dog (Rocky) a friend found and was about to leave in a kill shelter. I first took it to the vet and paid to check for a microchip to look for the owners, I tried on facebook and after failed attempts, I got him vaccinated at my own expense to protect my own female dog. I had no choice but to take him to a shelter. On my search for a no kill shelter, I found Bobbis. She did ask for a $200 fee. I explained to her I had him vaccinated already at my expense and wouldnt be able to pay that much more. She said I had to give her something. I offered treats, and she accepted a $25 donation. Rocky ended up impregnating my own dog in that process which I didnt plan (shes my first dog/Im not a breeder) I took care of these pups and bottle fed since there 2 weeks of age since my dog got low on calcium a d was sick after birth. When big enough, I found the pups good homes and charged nothing at all. 1 pup was returned to me, and sadly, I cant keep him since I now live in a smaller apartment, and Im due to have a baby myself any day now. I raised these pups and its not easy for me to let go but I know I have to, so I called Bobbi again, and she said I was the worst, that this is all my fault and no one elses. She said she needed a $400 dollar fee. I told her I couldnt give her that much money, and she started asking if my husband doesnt work and what does he do for work. She said shell do $200, and when she saw the picture of the dog and saw he has a cherry eye, she said I had to give her $25 a week. She had no compassion and everything was about money to her. I kept my composure and still spoke to her with respect and after kindly explain i felt like she was being nasty she kept insisting on wanting to know what my husband does for work and more about my personal life. I finally had it and told her if she couldnt help, it was fine and that I wouldnt push her to help me since i didnt have the money she wanted and I will look elsewhere. She then started saying she will try to do what she can. I just hung up and now she keeps calling and texting me, saying shes going to do a go fund me on my pup, which I gave no consent to. Then after not responding she says sorry that she was frustrated because her friend died. She didnt seem like she was mourning while she was putting the blame on me and insisted on money and up to what II know they also charge vaccination fees upon adoption of an animal, so they basically want to charge the surrender and the adopter. Im highly upset at this experience.
Cats
Very good
They excelled
I dont hate it
