Sandra is a true blessing when it comes to helping you train your furry family member. I wholeheartedly believe that there are no bad dogs, just owners who may not have the right guidance. With the dedication and effort you put in, along with the valuable tools and tips she offers, you’ll notice a remarkable transformation in your pet’s development and skills in just a few weeks. I can’t recommend this place enough to anyone looking for help—it truly makes a difference!

I have taken my Rottweilers for behavioral evaluations, puppy class, obedience training, and currently taking them for nose work training. Sandra has demonstrated that she is profoundly knowledgeable about dog behavior across breeds and has helped me with managing aggressive/overpowering male Rottweiler behaviors by helping me to establish myself as the alpha through positive training techniques that have also led to a positive reciprocal relationship between my Rottweiler male and self. Sandra is now helping me establish the same relationship with my female puppy Rottweiler by using different approaches as she is behaviorally different than my male. She offers different in-house training programs, boarding, and access to specialized canine products. The staff is courteous and well trained. Canine College has become my chosen training facility in the Watertown area for my dogs.

Amazing resource for the community!!!! The extensive level of knowledge about dogs and their training has surpassed my expectations. After a lengthy period of scouting out this place, I finally decided to bring a dog to them for training….my German Shepherd puppy. The team of trainers there have done a wonderful job with him! They needed to customize training based on his behaviors (he can be a handful). They listened to me and focused on what my goals for training were. They even took the time to let me know what types of sports and activities my dog would excel with once they got to know him. Plus, the trainers assisted me with setting up the proper equipment for him and recommended changing his amount of food so he would be at peak condition. It is a one stop shop for both you and your dog to learn! Staff is very friendly, helpful, and truly care about your animal’s welfare. Read that last sentence again. What also amazes me is how clean the facility is. Kudos to the team for making cleanliness a priority. I feel really good about bringing my dog there. My dog loves going there and he is so happy with his trainers! I have been doing the day and train which has worked out perfectly for my needs. I spent a significant amount of time and energy making sure I selected a good place with high quality trainers. I really like the owner, she is to the point and won’t sugarcoat what your dog needs. She also has extensive knowledge on German Shepherds - from pedigree to training! You can tell that every single person at the Canine College is there for their love of dogs and they want the very best for your dog too! I don’t often write reviews but when something is as good as the Canine College, I had to chime in. Check the place out, talk with the staff, and see what they can help you with. While I haven’t boarded there, I most certainly would trust my dog to their care in a heartbeat. A dog is a family member in my home and I certainly wouldn’t risk their comfort and safety. I’m so thankful for this amazing resource that is so close to home.June 2024 Update:I had to take my GSD to PETCO and I was worried he might misbehave since he has previously been and was quite reactive to other dogs. I wanted to report back about how amazing he did. He made one bark as we pulled in and he saw a dog. I corrected it with the collar and that was the last bark he made. He was such a good boy, not reactive to the many dogs in the store. He heeled, sat and down/settled very well. I had to also stop at Runnings for duck food so I brought him in and he was so well behaved there too! I am still in shock. Thanks canine college team, fantastic work!

Canine College has done so much for my dogs and for my family! Without them, I’m not sure if we would still have the rescue we have. They helped with training him, with. surgery recovery, and with boarding them anytime we need to travel. My dog is a rescue from Romania. He’s feral and has a lot of quirks I had not worked with before. He is high energy and had some aggression/fear we needed to work with him on. My other dog has anxiety and can be stubborn. We have been fortunate to work with Sandra King at Canine College. During our dogs training there, Asa (our Long Haired Shepherd) matured from a youngster with little experience of the world & reactive to everything, to a calm confident adult. He learned the basics and then, with Sandras help, has moved on to begin working as a mobility assistance service dog. Along the way he learned to search by scent, to find objects by name, to pick up dropped objects and place them where directed, and most important of all, to have fun doing it.Sandra is well attuned to ways to motivate dogs. Dogs are happy there -- tails are wagging and eyes are bright. The most important thing I learned in classes there was that what happens at home is the most crucial part of training. With a good and responsible owner, training continues for life -- long after classes ore over. But working with a good teacher sets up a foundation that makes it really work.

Oakley is a malinois and our other dog a part German Shepherd part malinois, so you can assume they are both crazy!! They both now go for training every week and it’s been our saving grace!! They love it just as much as we do!! Seeing them learn every week and be better is not only is great as an owner but so good for the dogs! I messaged Sandra asking her to help me with an evaluation with my puppy. She had been in a board and train with another local business for 5 weeks and she knew little to nothing. She wasn’t potty trained at all, she barely knew her name, she could barely place, she could not sit in a place for longer than a couple seconds and she was in an extreme fear phase due to improper socialization. Sandra was extremely informative and patient with my puppy during the evaluation and explained in detail why she was behaving the way she was. Sandra was patient with all my questions and concerns, and she also gave us some very helpful tips and tricks to training her. Especially since we had to start all over with our puppy. I could tell she truly cared about what had happened to my puppy and she cared about her well being. Sandra is still so helpful and willing to answer any questions I have still to this day. Sandra will forever be my go to for training and help for all of my dogs.

My dog had some serious aggression issues due to over stimulation. I had no control over him. No matter how hard I tried. I even tried different collars. For my dog it was hard for him to stay calm in my home of 3 kids. I sent him to canine college for the 3 weeks board and train. And he came back a completely diff dog. As we speak he is laying in his place position and the ferret is running around him. The kids r screaming and running around and he is completely un phased by it. They did amazing. The care and training received here sets the bar, and I wouldnt hesitate to send any of my dogs for training.**************************************************I take my puppy here for service dog training, and absolutely love it. Sandra is very helpful and knowledgeable, and explains the importance of each step. Her training laid a solid foundation on how we communicate and work with our dog.We are so thankful for the guidance Sandra gave and how she was very straightforward with us about our dog. I was recommended this dog training facility and had high hopes but had a terrible experience. I made the appointment for the private evaluation, two days before the appointment, I called to change the time and they said they had a kennel couch outbreak and were going to call me to reschedule( Im assuming the day before my appointment). I gave them the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled. I called the following week and asked if we could move the appointment up, Sandra said yes. When I arrived to my appointment, they had construction going on and it was very dirty. As soon as I walked in with my dog she said she couldnt help me because my dog had anxiety. Keep in mind the construction guys are making loud noises, throwing things, drywall dust everywhere and even I couldnt hear her and felt anxious myself. She called another dog trainer facility, had a full on conversation with them about another dog she was training and then just told me to call and pay their evaluation fee or get a in-home trainer. She didnt give me any feedback I was there 5-10 minutes said she couldnt do in-home training and the girl sitting behind the desk wasnt ready to train and I paid $40 for this private evaluation. I left very disappointed with this place and to make matters worse they message me days later stating they were charging me a no-show fee to my appointment that was rescheduled by Sandra herself. I messaged them back stating Sandra rescheduled me to a different date and to check their records on response. I do not recommend this place to anyone who cares about their dogs and wants a professional trainer.

Let me start off by saying dont judge a book by its cover when it comes to this place! When I pulled up I noticed it was in a plaza and from the outside it seemed like it would be a lot smaller than it actually is, not to mention the outside space which is used for classes when the weather is nice. My husband and I after doing a ton of research decided on a working line Doberman because we wanted to get into dog sports. Upon speaking Sandra and seeing her dogs we knew this place was the right fit of us and Kraken (our dog) We started with a one month board and train and could not have been happier with the results. He has a very reliable off leash recall, great house manners, and no longer reacts at other dogs and strangers #FearPhase We even still train with Sandra for sport work now that his foundations are solid. I am so glad we decided to train with Sandra, its worth every penny!

We set up GSD here for day training. He attended only three times due to weather cancellations. I choose this establishment because of the experience they have with GSD. I should have known better when my dog wasnt given a consequence for jumping over the gate when he arrived and was told other behaviors were normal puppy behaviors. My pup is almost 7 months old. He is quite reactive and after three days of training we reached out to Sandra and told her our concerns AGAIN. This is our 5th GSD so the breed is not new to us, however, having such reactive behaviors at such a young age is. Our pup nipped a teen for absolutely no reason. She ignored us for three days until my husband continued to hound her. She was completely unprofessional, yelling and telling us that she is an expert with GSD and the teen must have done something to provoke the dog. She told us he isnt at all reactive. She then went on to say if we were to take him somewhere else they will just use a shock collar and destroy him. Well Im happy to report our pup is with an outstanding trainer who works with reactive dogs and he has made AMAZING progress. Dont go here unless you are looking for obedience, service dog training. Not all trainers specialize in everything. Do your research. Also, be prepared for a very defensive response if she doesnt like what you say. She will attack it.

Canine College is a great place to train for basic and advanced obedience, as well as a variety of dog sports. Ive trained here in scent detection and in protection, and have been part of the working dog club since it was founded (and before it moved to this location).Sandra (the owner) and Hedy (the other trainer and behaviorist) are educated, knowledgeable, helpful, honest, and straightforward. They are able to solve behavior issues that range from reactivity to fear and work with you to set realistic goals and meet them. This is a training facility where the trainers will NOT lie to you to get your money. Nobody here would tell you that your adult Husky would be a great Service Dog and that theyll have it trained in 6 weeks - unlike other scammers out there. Canine College will be honest and straightforward, help you find the right dog for your purpose (if needed) and work to help you meet your goals. Theyre no-nonsense, no-BS.In addition, Canine Colleges owner has created several Facebook groups that help local area pet owners for free! She doesnt just put her energy into her paid job, but also into making the lives of dog owners and their pets better in her spare time!

When I first came in contact with Sandra it was because I just bought a puppy who I thought needed to socialize. He already knew very basic commands, but that was it. Very quickly, Sandra introduced me to the world of working dogs and I am still learning new things everyday. My pup has made TREMENDOUS strides thanks to all the work she has put in with us. My dog USED to be very anxious, would bark at anyone and anything, was horrible to walk on leash, and would only listen when he wanted to. Thanks to Sandra, he has built a lot more confidence and no longer barks at other dogs or people, he can walk on a leash all day long without pulling, and has built a high amount of impulse control so he listens to me even if there are a million things going on around us. Canine College has become a great place for my dog and I to bond, learn, and grow. I am incredibly thankful for everything she has done and continues to do for us.

Sandra at Canine College (aka Fort Drum Social Dogs on FB) was extremely judgmental about my Husky puppy. I reached out to her back in Sept, a couple weeks before I was able to pick up my puppy (after 8 week vet visit). I reached out to her because I was planning to work toward my Husky becoming my PTSD service dog. Her first response to me was that huskys were not good service dogs because of how distracted they are and usually fail service dog training. Sandra really seemed disinterested in working with me because of this, but I let it go, because the conversation was via FB messenger. It wasnt a face to face conversation, maybe I was misinterpreting what she was saying. For the last few months, I have been coming across other dog owners who has exactly the same problem. Well, I figured, oh well, there are other trainers that are willing to help, or at least meet me and my dog before making a professional opinion. Then I joined Fort Drum Social Dogs, not realizing it was really Sandra and Canine College behind this other name. I posted today about looking to set up a play date with another puppy(s), and described my puppy as a well mannered service dog (in training), as you never really know until you meet if the other puppy is safe or not, Id hope others would have similar concerns. within minutes of me posting, Sandra made a post on the site about how horrible some dogs are as service dogs and how people who have only done obedience training shouldnt be claiming to train a dog as a service dog. OK, options are just that, but it has been 4 months since we spoke, I am not and will not use her or Canine College to do anything with my dog. Sandra, as a PROFESSIONAL dog trainer should not be treating ANYONE like this, especally not a dog or owner she has never (and will never) actually meet and evaluate face to face,. I have attached a screenshot of her comments today as well as an AKC behavioral profile for Siberian Huskys, since they are the standard that ALL reputable professional trainers should follow, and because my Husky IS AKC certified. Something Sandra probably doesnt know any more than she does about me or my dog.

Ive seen her train an untrainable boxer, and how pleased the owner was with her progress (night and dag difference, after only a couple of days). She is a wealth of knowledge, someone I feel I can always go to for advice for anything, and is super friendly (sometimes you can run into less friendly people when it comes to dog business).I brought home my German Shepherd puppy (Korra) a few weeks ago, and would not have known where to even begin without Sandras guidance. With her help, I have taught Korra sit, down, and have begun building the foundation of recall. Also, sometimes I bring Korra in just to meet other dogs and watch them work, its great exposure and socialization in a positive controlled environment. We loved working with the people at Canine College!! Our fur baby had quite the start to life. He was a rescue and we are his 6th home bc he has previously bitten men. He is pretty territorial, headstrong, and a jerk to strangers - oh and he’s a chihuahua (but thinks he’s a guard dog) Ha! Anyway, Sandra was SO helpful and explained so much to us about why he acts this way, how to read his body language, and how to handle him and set boundaries so he doesn’t feel the need to protect us from strangers. It took a few weeks of going 3-4 times per week, but we have finally made HUGE strides. I couldn’t recommend this place enough!A bonus is my little, fierce guy was able to play with Sandra’s dog, champ and champ was very patient and gentle with Cabo (my dog haha). Cabo LOVES other dogs, but Sandra and champ taught cabo that he can play with other dogs, but he doesn’t HAVE to play with every dog he sees. Which.. we’re still working on that part. Regardless - I’m glad we found Sandra because Cabo needed her.

Our dog lost TONS of weight while attending this training facility. As soon as we brought him home he started gaining weight. When confronted Sandra refused to accept any responsibility. We also paid for private classes and never received them. When we asked to schedule them she would cancel on us or refuse to respond to us. She claimed my dog was sick on more than one occasion and we took him to the vet every time she claimed this and he was never sick. She was just trying to blame our dog “being sick” for the lack of results from training. Since the owner knows that I am not the owner of the dog she is accusing me to be on Facebook it has just come to light that she had been not feeding another dog and that a staff member left their staff after witnessing mistreatment. She is refusing to take ANY accountability of her ill treatment of now TWO dogs recently that were in her care!! Just look at the other reviews she has on google of her MISTREATMENT of dogs AND their owners (her paying clients.) I’m not able to reply to her response but all I will say is that she has manipulated the screenshots in this post to look to her advantage when she in fact was the reason two dogs in her facility have now gotten sick, a staff member of hers left due to mistreatment in the facility and that two dogs were left severely underweight in her facility. My dogs use to be so reactive but thanks to Sandra I can walk them around places and have family and friends come over over without a worry anymore.😁

I came to Canine College to have Sandra help me train my working blood line German Shepherd in a dog sport called schutzhund or IPO. My dog and I have been working with Sandra now for about 20 months. I truly believe that there is not another person in the Watertown area that knows more about dogs or dog training than Sandra. In the short time I have trained my dog with Sandra I have learned so much about the temperament and behaviors of different dog breeds. I have also learned many dog training techniques in the process of training my dog. She taught me that not all dogs are created the same. For example she taught me that I should not use a breed like a Golden Retriever to do Schutzhund or energetic dog breeds (Siberian huskies / malamutes) do not make good service dogs. Speaking of service dogs Sandra knows how to train them and what breeds make the best service dogs because she has trained two very well trained service dogs her self. One last thing, Sandra and her family has been breeding and training dogs for many many years. She takes breed dogs and training dogs very seriously.
