West Hills Small Dog Park is a decent spot with a good amount of space for dogs to run around freely. The park provides some conveniences like dog bowls and poop bags, which is helpful. There are about four benches for pet parents to relax, though a few more wouldn’t hurt. It can get quite muddy after it rains, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting in wet weather. One downside is that its been pretty quiet (empty) every time we’ve visited on weekdays, so it might be ideal for those looking for a less crowded park.

Really nice dog run and not as beat up as the others I’ve used. Scheduled a Shiba Meetup recently and everyone commented on the good shape the run is in.

We visited Sunday afternoon and it was a letdown. There were maybe 5 other dogs and their humans, and all the dogs and humans were great. But the dog run was just a big open flat rectangle filled with wood chips covering every inch. The dogs couldn’t really run around on it, certainly not full speed. There were benches around the edges, but that’s it. There was no grass, no trees, no bushes, nothing interesting or fun. The dogs basically just have to wait in discomfort until it’s time to leave.

Very nice dogs and people.People leave lots of tennis balls to play fetch with and chairs to sit on and chat--just avoid politics.A lot of regulars, both dogs and people so you get to know them. There is a fountain that isnt turned on until may so bring water. However, there are toilets in the park headquarters building a few steps away where you can fill a water bottle from a sink.My little dog died recently so I go here to be around dogs. Theyre nice!

We went there during the evening, around 5pm. It was busy and a lot of the owners were hanging out and socializing while their dogs did whatever. At one point, a dog started fighting with my dog. I shouted across the park Whos dog is this? and everyone just blankly stared at me. No one came to help as my 65-yo mother and I tried to control the situation and the owner of the other dog took zero responsibility for the incident. I was shocked.Plus there is a huge hole in the fence where two small dogs escaped out of within the span of an hour. Fortunately they were retrieved. Also, no bathrooms in the area that I could find.

It is a beautiful park that is very well maintained. Unfortunately, my dog was the only small dog in the park. I think that small dogs need to meet friends too, so please come and visit. Its very clean and nice park!

Best dog park ever from the dog run to the rangers and the field. Even the bathrooms are always tidy. The only thing that is a little annoying is parking but thats not their fault its across the street so be careful crossing with your fur baby because people fly down the bend and you dont see them coming. Also check for ticks on your dog when you leave but thats any park. We love going there!

We visited the West Hills small dog park because we attended a Long Island orienteering event at the West Hills Park, not so much the dog run. It is a very nice park lots of trails and Hills. We enjoy it, think you will too!

The new wood chips ( replacing the grass) have made it not very user friendly. Wood chips harbor fleas & ticks and are hard on dogs Paws. Also make it hard to find dog poop ( hidden landmines) The grass always grew back and should be replaced. Suffolk county parks made a mistake

The West Hills small dog run is normally a great place to let my Havanese puppy run without fear of being trampled by larger dogs. Some time in the past week mulch has been spread. Large and small chunks of wood (poorly mulched) which can splinter in my dogs mouth and paws. Had a dog once that suffered internal bleeding, not fatal but could have been. Why would any one spread this stuff in a dog park. Shame on them

Most of the dogs in the small dog run are well behaved and 98% of the owners are conscientious and watch their dogs. There is no poop bag dispenser which some might expect, but always people there willing to give you a bag if you need. It could be a little cleaner in the run, I often see poop near the fence that wasnt picked up so you have to watch where you and your dog step. The people we have met have been welcoming and we plan to visit again soon.

I do not like how they added wood chips to the whole park...I understand that it helps for when it rains and to reduce mosquito and ticks but it also makes afraid bc my dog runs full speed to fetch and stops on dime that he could injure himself....

It was a pretty nice area. Plenty of grass but also quite a few places that were run down and either only had wood chips or dirt or mud. Overall, it was pretty good and I will visit again. I was surprised that it was completely empty and I was the only person with my dog there on a Saturday afternoon. Only thing I had an issue with was that a lot of people left their bowl of water there and I had to either knock them over or pick them up so that my dog wouldnt drink from them. I dont want my dog getting any type of bacterial or viral infection from contaminated water. It would be nice if the area could be level (not heavily sloped) because it is quite sloped and when its muddy or snowy, it becomes a hassle walking or jogging down the field. Same experience spring or winter.
