Alright this is the OG park for me and my dogs. I’ve been bringing Frida here since she was puppy and she’s now 13 years old. Over time they have retrofitted the dog park amazingly adding much needed area to large and small dog park. Along with water at will. I couldn’t be prouder!!
Its a spacious neighborhood park that has sprinklers and a play area for the kids. Theres a designated BBQ area, a handball court, a baseball field, dog park, and an outdoor arena. The recreation center has reopened. Theresa publicrestroom, however, its not the cleanest. The perimeter has been cleaned up. Also, theres usually a mobile unit for Covid testing parked outside.
Its a secure place the police station is right beside it so no illegal activity is there so I feel safe
Fine park. gets the job done. concur with the mud, it’s wicked when it’s wet. plenty o’ benches. so many small dogs in the big dog run and so many big dogs in the small dog run. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lotsa dust and wood chips. there’s a cool tree stump throne in the small dog run.
The new upgraded room is huge! Much better use of the space. I hope the addition of a water fountain is still in the works. Also, not sure what the wood chips are treated with, but my dog always gets extra drooly and puffy eyes. Anyone else?
Super friendly community and plenty of space for the dogs to run around and play.But.. there a drainage problem, the dog park will be flooded for a day or two after it rains.
This is the place to be on the weekends they do free concerts and it gets pack....the music be on point...you definitely need to be there...come to the park and see for your self you would definitely see me there...
Amazing park peaceful and not dirty but there was one wasp hive that chased me but low-key kinda fun
When I went, it was quiet and the park was enjoyed. There is no drinking.
First time being here yesterday. Great little place with lots of shade. Locals are very pleasant as well.
The restrooms are always a mess. The construction for the center is finally over and its great, awesome programming and space. Resident red-tailed hawks and woodpeckers and a few yellow-bellied sapsuckers destroying the spruces and squawking as they do it, so good for low-key birdwatching. Theres a time for quiet reading and conversation, and then theres summer weekends after 10am, which tend to be insane and very loud, but a lot of people having a good time as they see it. So a bit of something for everyone. Great summer stage and other outdoor performances in the summer. Yoga classes, dachshund meetups, you name it. The dog park is always fun to watch. The mud situation has improved a little bit, but not much, so, very muddy in the dog park when it rains.
Separate spaces for large and small dogs. No grass. Water and waste bags provided. Limited seating.
Dogs and puppies love playing in this dog part. Divided into 2 sections one for smaller dogs and puppies. Just make sure you are vigilant of your dog and make sure you move out of the way...running dogs having fun can knock you down...
My Big Baby made a lot of new friends at this dog park. Very friendly pets & people. Normally a lot more chill space, part of the park is being restored just a heads up.
Nice big dog park, with friendly responsible dog people. Floods when it rains, though -- there is a giant stinky lake in there as I type, 3 days after a rain. Double gated for safety, water bucket available. Gets very dusty when its dry, wish theyd do something about the water drainage and put wood shavings down to control the dust. Otherwise a pleasant place to bring my dog.
Great park with movies in the summer, basketball court, dog park, baseball field, handball court, 2 separate play grounds and an amphitheater. Saw this guy there today.
I definitely will return here. There are so many little alcoves and nooks to hang out in. Fun times for sure. Just wait til the summer months...
Friendly place however mind when sitting by the fence, some kids find it amusing throwing various projectiles at people sitting on the benches, I got hit on the head and shoulder by a medium size rock thrown at towards my direction
This is Tompkins Park they changed the name to Herbert Von King. So I see they have whats called a dog run. And a lil baseball field now. NICE..........
Great little dog run! Two sections, one for smaller dogs and the other for all sizes. Theyve improved it over the past few years, and added wood chips so its not AS muddy when it rains (but still a bit in some sections). The dog owners who frequent here are mostly pretty chill too. It can get a tad busy on the weekends and late afternoon/evenings - it just means more pup friends for your furry family member tho!
So many good dog experiences here, lots of large dogs and the humans are respectful and attentive. Only downside is it gets really muddy in the rain to the point of being unusable but otherwise is one of the best dog parks in Brooklyn.
Pup absolutely loves playing here. Its just grass, dirt and a couple benches but all dogs want to do is to run around and it serves the purpose. Theres a division (separated by a small fence) for small dogs to be separated from the bigger ones. It does get muddy when it rains but thats just another thing dogs love so its all good. I sometimes wish it was a bit bigger but thats just me being greedy with space.
Park is pretty well maintained and has nice wide paths.Great little dog run. Remember to bring water for your dog (if you want your dog to have water in the first place). Nice double gate entrance. I’ve always had a pretty good experience with dogs and people alike. Be prepared, in wet conditions this area has the potential for a lot of mud.
Great concerts during the summer
Beagles love it in the snow! Big, friendly space, with two separate sections. Benches, water dishes, balls to toss, etc
It used to be a lovely dog park but since bed-stuy is a fast growing community, it is now packed!! always!!! And I have known countless dogs to leave here and end up catching Mange from another dog at this dog park. Also, people dont know proper park etiquette like not shutting the gate door and letting dogs out who end up running into the street! I do not recommend taking your dog there unless you work from home and can hit the park around 1p - little more chill at that time.
Ive never been here but sounds pretty cool
Tribute to the late Max Roach. It was gr8! Love jazz and the movie in his life. It was all the rage and everyone was so very nice...🎶🎵 Continue to rest in peace my brother🙏🏽his son, grads and daughters and cousins....💞
I been going here for years and I love when they have live concerts the park need to be fixed in some places though like the baseball field and the grass can be better maintained
This small but humble park has something for everyone. A dog park, basketball court, wall for tennis or handball, chess tables, playground, water feature, BBQ area with tables, a loop for running, green space for taking a nap or tanning, and an auditorium for goodness sake! Theres plenty of shade to stay cool as well. It might not be the biggest or the best park in the city, but its definitely a 5 star park for its caliber.
My pup loves this park! We go a few times a week and sometimes on the weekends. There’s a big dog park and a small dog park and at times there’s larger dogs in the small dog park but they are usually more chill (which is safest for the small dogs). Even when the small dog park is empty, I feel confident taking my small dog into the large dog park because the dogs are usually pretty sweet and owners keep close watch!
This park is very nice and brings out a side of bedford-stuyvesant that outsiders are not aware of. I work out and hang out in the park almost every day. I saw two kids about 10 years old have a fist fightold school styleeven that was a good experience. They got it out of their system shook hands and made up.. Ive never seen one argument or one negative incident of any kind. They have concerts weekly and all kind of events. I give this park five stars and recommend this park to everyone and I mean everyone. I guarantee you will feel welcome 😊....
The dog park is super necessary for this neighborhood of dog lovers, always good amount of dogs there and the size of the small dog area is pretty generous! I just wish theyd install water fountains for the pups, they knock over their drinking bowls in two seconds and we all pray someone brought a water bottle.
Its one of the larger dog runs in the area. The amenities are pretty bare bones, and the ground can turn into muddy ponds after rain storms, but its nice that there are two separate fenced in areas which people use for mellower or more active dogs. Of course, there are also the off-leash hours in the larger field just steps away in the park, too.
This dog run has plenty of space, benches, trash cans, spare bags. Theres a dedicated potty area with lots of wood chips and shade. Theres also plenty of space in the park beside where people run their dogs but it doesnt have the double gate
The Von King Dog Park is too small for the amount of furry babies who currently live in and around the vicinity of the park. Presently there are renovation projects such as ground keeping (recovering alot of bald spots in the grassy areas), bathroom overhaul taking years to finish and its quite dirty throughout the park. Some people arent really using the receptacles provided plus maintenance cleaning is needed. Outside of this people are enjoying themselves spending time with family and friends. DJ music blazing from the stage helps to get you in the mood too.
Lenny Green day was awesome. No drama just dancing fashion shows. I really had a good time for a Sunday afternoon.
I didnt use the dog park, I used the bigger, whole park. Really pretty. Nice lawns and courts. Dog friendly. The do park looked like an adequate amount of space.
Attended my nieces 4th birthday there. It was very clean and spacious. I love that they allowed you to bring in your own barbecue grills and had some picnic tables already available
Generally a good place to let your dog play. The dirt/wood chip ground is good for the paws. However be weary on wet days since mud could be around. Only real issue here would be other dog owners. Most of the time things are swell.
Broken glass in the run. Doesnt drain. Fences in disrepair. This is my dogs favorite place but it could be better. EDIT: they fixed the fences and added a lot of mulch! Great improvement!
It is a nice part very family-oriented good Gathering of people you should visit experience it yourself.
That has become a dog park I grew up in that park. I went there throughout my childhood most of my adult life now all you see is dogs And men wearing bras that is not cool. What are you holding up? You have no breast sir
This dog park is the only one for this entire area of Brooklyn and can get pretty crowded because of that which I think can also lead to dogs feeling crowded and getting uncharacteristically aggressive. Additionally the fences are not well maintained and dogs can jump out of the park and into the streets or into the back area that isnt maintained.I agree with the other comments that people have posted: No water station, can get incredibly muddy, and trash cans arent emptied as much as they should be.Its a bummer because its truly the only place to bring my dog in the area, but needs some TLC. With just a few improvements it could be 5 STARS! 3 stars basically for just existing and having potential.
Park is improving every year. Feels very friendly and safe. Clean despite a dog park . Several kids play structures.
I love this park, however, please dont sick on the grass because you see dog doo all over. This park in the morning is not for seniors to walk. The whole beautiful park is for dogs only, they even be sitting on the bench next to the owner
Its always a fun time here, with all the dogs and owners hanging out. There are two pens, one for bigger dogs, and the other for smaller dogs. The ground is primarily dirt and woodchips. The drainage is bad, so do note that after rain, it gets puddly, muddy, and generally messy af.
One of the few parks in the area that has two legitimate dog runs. The dog run is short on amenities, namely a faucet for water, but dog owners are usually prepared with water to share for the pups. The park itself is a great place to hang out in the summer.
Its setup ideally for small to medium size dogs. Not reccomend for larger dogs. Wouldnt like to see the outcome if OWNERS arent able to control the pets. What happens when new pets come in. Dogs can be territorial to any familiar sites.
Great place 4 the people & dogs 2 meet
VON KING PARK better known as Thompkins park is NOT a dog park the dogs were given a courtesy of taken the old garden located on marcy and laffayette NOWHERE ELSE in the park. But the BBQ area that I was in was fine as it has been for the last 20 years.
The dough park is very nice and improved, the rest of the areas in the park is good to the grass , bleachers,
Happy this place exists, because it’s well-needed in the neighborhood. I go with my pup almost every day and really enjoy it, but agree with other posters about the need for a water source, more frequent mulching to prevent it becoming a mud pit, and more frequent emptying of the trash cans.
I love taking my Daughter to this Park because my daughter loves watching the Dogs and swing in the swings.
Hasnt been well maintained recently so when it rains the larger run is a muddy mess. It is split into two runs so that dogs that need to be solo can go to the smaller run. I always enjoy the people and their fantastic dogs that come to this run.
Nice park. It was clean and all kind of people were there. It is sure diffrent than when I lived across the street from th Park in the late 80s early 90s. The whole neighborhood has changed.
Go look at the dogs! It gets flooded bad after it rains but its a great place to bring your pup. Everyone is very nice and sociable and the dogs tend to be very behaved.
Hit or miss with owners laying attention to their dogs. Park is on the smaller end with no grass. Does the trick if you want a quick and easy way to let your dog run around.
Big dogs as well as small dogs play here. Sometimes, it can be a good thing.. And sometimes bad. My dog got bit by 2 pitbulls. If you have a small breed dog, i dont recommended taking them there during certain hours while big dogs like pitbulls and huskys are unleashed. Theres no direct rules but please note, just because dogs are friendly to humans, that doesnt mean it will be so friendly to other dogs
Fun place for dogs of all sizes. There are two parks. One for small dogs and one for large dogs, however there are some aggressive dogs who like to bite. Be aware!
Lots of dogs for your pup to meet
Its okay. It could be better, but also a lot worse, I guess. Its also one of the few fenced in dog parks that isnt in Greenpoint or Williamsburg, so it gets points for just existing, I guess. Also very thankful that it isnt pebbles, my dog wont walk on them and therefore a bunch of dog parks become non-viable options.
Very chill and basic, should get more maintenance - mosquitoes, better and bigger dog section with enough shade and benches - it has a lot of use, so it deserves it, maybe add more sporty activity facilities.
Its horrible.. the people dont know how to take care of them dogs no one watches the place and the park definitely doesnt keep up with the maintenance its always run down and disorganized and all the dog poop bags I never in there receptacles it seems like no one bothers to you and refill them
Was visiting NY from Tampa, Florida and always walk my brothers 2 dogs sisters Prada & Chanel. Nice park across the street from his house.
Great park plenty plenty of space to stretch out and barbecue and most of all the dog run one side is a small dogs and the other side is for large dogs great idea
2 separate areas for big and small dogs is very nice. Its pretty DUSTY, but the dog loved the wide open space.
This is a great dog park that I like to frequent on Saturdays. Love that there are two separate areas. I just wish there was access to water, like a fountain or hose
The part is very relaxing there are so many things going on track music concerts educational projects for the children I love it the atmosphere is great
A bit of a meat market but thats to be expected these days. Tbh at least its better than the dogs meeting each other on the apps, at least this way they get the IRL experience, where scent is so important.
This dog park has a lot of potential. Would be great if the city invested in a dog water station and fresh mulch on a regular basis to keep it from becoming a big mud pit when it rains.
Not well maintained, gets very muddy and have seen several dog owners not clean up after their dogs. My dog got giardia here and we haven’t been back since. Do not recommend.
They kidnapped my dog here and sold it back after dyeing its tail! Please read before coming here! The dog area is extremely cliquely, its over run by this unruly gang of new-age art-school alumni PTA moms from the Midwest. They take pride in pantsing you (the immature act of pulling your pants down when youre not looking) they are big on shame!! So come prepared with tighty-whiteys or boxer-briefs! I made the mistake of running into them and the Van Buren Boyz.
A good place for grey to run around and socialize and meet other dogs and puppies
Very nice a lot of free activities for, adults and children.
Not many dog runs in neighborhood so this is a go to. Beware that its very muddy for at least a couple days after rain.
Dog owners do not follow rules.
Its amazing how much Americans love their dogs! if you agree - put a thumbs up ❤
Great place to go for a walk/run. There’s a nice loop that is shaded nicely in lots of areas along the pathway around the park.
Nice. I was glad to catch up with friends. My favorite DJ plays music at Von King Park
Pretty great park! Too bad nothing is happening with the amphitheater there. Could do a smaller show with people sitting apart appropriately
Do not go after it rains it is a muddy mess
Great dog park! The dogs are mostly friendly. The dogs just really have a good time.
They need to reopen the recreation center for the children to enjoy and the seniors to hang out and get to meet other residents
FUN so much was happening today!
Great park for kids and dogs . Summer free concerts are awesome. They have sprinklers at the kiddie playground
Every time I come to this park I enjoy myself, the events here are great and very kid friendly!
Best dog run in town. Big size, wood chips on the ground, nice shade and bench.
Its a nice park with the music rocking and people having fun. However, the park needs to open up the restrooms!
A bit swampy in weather but a good group of dogs whenever I go. A nice spot for socializing dogs in this cozy corner.
I had a wonderful experience at Von king park. The people are lovely and, friendly. The music is spectacular.
Good music, open space, lot of trees, picnic tables. Crowded on Thursday because there is a DJ.
Great place to walk your dog or sit on a bench. People work out here too, lots of stuff
This is a very good place to shop for your household. They have mostly everything you need. Love this place
Nice environment all the neighbors walking their dogs and making barbecues on weekends, also making friendly parties on the evenings.
Great spot for dogs large dog and small dog areas with shade spots and a hookup for waters
Large size. 2 runs one for dogs that can play together one for dogs that dont. Fences need a little updating and some clean up.
Great and clean. Sometimes it gets gross and muddy. REALLY NEEDS WATER ON SITE. Remember to bring your own water.
Horrible, needs to be enclosed.
Love the new renovations. Very friendly dogs overall, big and small.
Nice park for surprise birthday party for my 2nd cousin. Peaceful and family-friendly.
Im a local dog walker so this is my GO-TO spot for my more social dogs....theres 2 different side to the dog run which is awesome
Love this beautiful park
Brought Cholula pup and she had so much fun playing with all her doggy pals
The best dog run for taking your big dog. Two separate sides, one for dogs who shouldn’t be with other dogs.
My very first time at the celebration and I enjoyed myself without having to look over my shoulder. Love it!!!
Been taking my kids to this park for 10 years. We are very happy with this park
Doggie park friendly ... lots of activities for children
I had a great time the people were fun & safe. The musiq was fantastic
Urban park for neighborhood children. Big enough to enjoy walking through, great activities.
I just run here but it looks like a great park for pups!
Great place to go for nice walks, picnics, events, sports, and great outdoors time for kids.
Fun...its nice to enjoy a good park in your own neighborhood
Nice clean area. Dogs are allowed to free walk in park.
Love this park especially the dog park
Best dog park in all of new york city!! I love the FDW Future Dog Walking site and park
Cute, I like the material they use on the ground for the pups and its spacious.
Beautiful park and play spaces for children ❤️
Dogs are not separate from the large dogs. People dont want to be chasing their dogs from the larger dogs.
Smallish. Wish pals had more room. But good vibe and relatively clean!
My dogs Liah and Charlie love playing with other dogs there, everyone there is so friendly.
One of the dogs would not stop trying to sell me insurance.
I loved it! My kids had alot of fun.
Way to many rude hipsters not friendly at all unless your one of them. Very small wont come here again!
Large and small dog park. Mulched. Gets muddy when it rains and the fences are broken.
Relaxing oasis in the middle of the city. Avoid the 7-11 on the west side of the park
Lots of dogs of all sizes for milo to play with
Beautiful Communal Neighborhood Park. Great history, natural vibe 👏
Was enjoyable. Fun to socialize with other dog owners and dogs.
Great for dog watching, the vibes in the evening are off.
Decent dog park
Great place to bring the dog when youve missed off-leash hours
Its not run by the city and is poorly maintained. Like Regan said: Tear down this wall!
I love this place, all year around this is the best park in the area
I love my old neighborhood Tompkins park is the spot.
A park that you can take your significant other to and discuss why you keep messing up dude
Very dangerous park, do not bring your dog here. Over just a couple of years I’ve witnessed countless dog attacks which could have been avoided had the owners been paying attention instead of on their phone or busy in conversation. I’ve seen countless dogs in brutal, bloody fights. After which, the owners get defensive and unapologetic. There’s a complete loss of decorum and basic human kindness.
Its ok.small n crowded.the people never seem to go home .
Its a decent sized dog park, has a separate area for bigger and smaller dogs. It can get dusty on a dry day and muddy on a wet one. On rainy days, there will be puddles in the bigger dog zone.
It’s a cute neighborhood spot. The dogs are cool and the owners are courteous. Everyone respects the space considering all the dogs are there at once. It’s clean, doesn’t stink. My dog and I usually enjoy ourselves every time we’re there. There are 2 sections that are well separated. The park is small and fairly quiet. I love it and there’s a coffee shop not too far if you want a quick bite.
Can get pretty muddy
Its an awesome place to bring your dog.
Nice event there this past Saturday.
This is the best dog park in the neighborhood. They have a small dog area and a large one...it is well fenced, and the dogs can runabout 150 feet. No water fountain for the pups, and it is mostly dirt...but the residents clean it and it is the best option for 15 blocks in any direction. The park it is attached to is also quite nice for a stroll and really beautiful.
It seems the city has provided a nice opportunity for people to get their dogs out of their houses and have them play. Some people do not realize the blessings they have and just watch without response when their dogs pick on and attack a newcoming dog. They need to learn some manners themselves first.
Easy to find dog park with friendly dogs.
Nice park for the dogs. A bit to small.
It was a tranquil setting for me,after a night at work.
THE PARK IS NOT ONLY FOR DOGS BUT THEY ALSO HAVE CONCERTS AND FOOD
When considering a neighborhood to move to, consider this community in Brooklyn, New York. This residence is for those that own and love their dog(s). Thank God for landlords that allow you to have a canine companion.
A nice place for your kids and a great 🐕 Park
Our dog Dash loves it there. He loves it there!
Very large with section for large and small dogs. Dirt surface area and floods very easily so oftentimes there are large mud puddles.
Good dog run with lots of space. Majority of the handlers there are responsible, Ive rarely heard of any incidents but they certainly happen. The further section is technically for big /more active dogs but that rule is only like half followed, especially when theres less dogs around. Only downside is the park floods when it rains and becomes a lake/mud pit.
Awesome place for dogs to run free.
The improvements are just ok. There is still a flooding issue but its not as bad. But looks like they lined the the ground then filled it in so the water has no place to go and its creating a smelly problem. Also they used large wood chips and the dogs have been hurt by them a few times that I have seen.
Great dog run. great neighborhood.
Park is taken over by dogs and their owners.
Love this park has mad child hood memories
Nice park good for running and outside activities
Its a relaxed park
This is a busy place, lots of Asians products and artifacts ,multitude of Asians citizens and others shopping and enjoying the moment, nice cuisines and discounts stores and businesses
This place is great for what it is, but don’t come after a rainstorm because there’s a massive lake that forms and stays forever and all the naughty dogs go into the mud then jump on you! Dog heaven though.
Actually, out of most of the dog parks Ive been to in Brooklyn & Manhattan, this is one of my faves. Lots of room, and benches. My smaller dog also likes the wood chips/dirt & grass over pebbles. That being said... I feel like maybe they should make the time out area just for small dogs. Also, they def need a water fountain. I wouldnt be mad if they changed the wood chips, either. Also, if your dog can jump, I saw one sail clear over the fence (inside the park, but still) once.Otherwise, its generally a good group of owners, which is what really makes a great dog park. 🐶 🌳💟🐾
Dont go after it rains place is a swamp
Everything is lovely there I love and adore it
More like sherbet von king.(Sure-burt)
Great to socialize the pups. Spacious and mostly shady.
Excellent and sare place for everyone even pets !
A beautiful day ✨️
Lots of mud unfortunately but my dog had a great time. Need a stand with poop bags. A water faucet is also needed.
The concerts are always a great vibe!
When it was just people of color we did have all this
Had a great time at barbecue with family and friends
It was so beautiful yes outside in the park.
Very nice music 🎶 DJ on point ☺️☺️ no drama good vibes 👍😊
Nice park needs to hurry up with over 4 years now renovations.
Good place just watch your dogs of course not all friendly dogs love all other dogs.
Can get muddy but a nice spot for the neighborhood
Cute park with mostly nice people. If you dont want to deal with other people, and dont we all sometimes, go early in the morning around 7 (Im writing this in August).
The new dog park
Significantly improved in the last year.
Great time Hugh Park space
Awesome park with great dog park area
Had a wonderful time my two babies did
Its a great dog park in bedstuy but the only downside is the ppl. The ppl dont watch their dogs and it seems to be used by a lot of dog walkers. Ive seen pleanty of of dog fights here and the dog owners seem not to care that much. There is two separate play area for the dogs but there always aggressive dogs there with incompetent humans.
Its very spacious and well lit
When it rains, dont take your dog there.
Just redone, quite spacious for the area!
@ Specials 55th Birthday Barbecue
Great dog park but it gets a little muddy. Bring your own water and bowl for your put.
Its a dog park in Brooklyn gentrification at its best
Great for dogs to run around
Its a very nice place for cookout.
Good place for tour dog to exercise
The park is a staple in Bedford Stuyvesant.
A small, inclosed area for dogs. Nice to have in the park but the trash can full of dog poop is not changed even close to half as often as it should be, and people often bring aggressive dogs.
This place is filthy!! When i rIns its a mud pit.
Great place for family and Friends gatherings
