It’s huge. 2 stars. What dog wouldn’t love this kind of freedom. I have never seen a larger, contained and intentional dog run in the city. But, it’s dusty AF. I imagine this is what the depression era in the south must have been like. You will need to give your dog a bath afterwords. It’s legit a dirt bowl.If you don’t mind that kind of thing, this spot is a 5*. If you prefer the kind of park that doesn’t make your dog come back home with 5lbs of dirt on her entire body- skip and go elsewhere.
We love Hillside! It’s a spacious and safe place for our pup to run and play with his friends. We have made many friends here as well. There are picnic tables to sit on or place your belongings. During summer months, there is a pool and a tub for the dogs to cool off. They have volunteer days for clean up and maintenance. Bring water in the winter because the water is shut off.We find the after work crowd is respectful and diligent in watching their dog. Sometimes weekends can bring a crowd that is more distracted and less diligent. It’s important to keep an eye on your dogs behavior as sometimes intact dogs can spark aggression. Also, please clean up after your dog! There are plenty of trash cans nearby.
We take our 13 pound dog from the LES over on the weekends and we have been happy thus far. It’s a nice, open dog park right off the bridge. The times we’ve been there, there were around 10+ dogs, all of whom have been friendly and there is enough space for all the dogs to run around freely. It’s located on a hill by a highway entrance, and two local roads so parking is challenging, but nice park given the location. We will be back!
SUCH HILLMUCH PICNIC TABLEMANY DOGGOthis park is a gem! i currently count at least FIFTY doggos here and it doesn’t even begin to feel full. it’s next to a highway so meh but it’s also on a hill so the view of the park is perfect from anywhere. there’s even a teeny tiny corral on the side i guess if a pup needs a time out? anyways, a+ this park is great worth the trek out here.
My puppy loves it. It’s huge, with lots of shadow so dogs can run even when it’s hot. People and other dogs are super friendly and supportive and if you don’t want to interact with anyone there’s plenty of space to separate from the crowd. The only downside is that the park is a bit dusty but I think it’s still much better than the pavement in the other parks around.
Nice dog park! Has a small dog area and large dog area. I specifically came here for a corgi meetup and it was a blast! After hosing off my dog at their water/wash station, I took him for a walk at the Brooklyn Bridge Park right across the street to dry off!
Decently large dog park with seating areas and a water fountain for dog owners and a great deal of room for your loved one to run around and socialize with other dogs, with many on the weekend especially but not getting the feeling of too overcrowded. Seemed a little drab in terms of quality overall but other than that quite convenient in terms of place being nearby to the subways and ferry
A great place with plenty of space for sociable dogs to run and play ,it can get kinda muddy after rainy weather and very hard to find parking but the pets have a blast
As far as dog parks go, this place is decent. Theres a large, fenced-in, mostly dirt-covered space with a bit of an incline as its on a hill. Trees and shrubs are scattered around the perimeter. There are also a few picnic tables, as well. Most importantly, there is plenty of space for dogs to zoom around, chase balls, and wrestle with each other.Next to that field is a smaller fenced-in space meant for little dogs. The downside is that sometimes people bring their big dogs in there, which leaves no safe space for little pups like mine that are skittish around dogs that tower over him.One time, little dude and I were on the small field playing fetch. We caught the attention of a giant dog who was roaming around there while his unobservant owners knocked back beers. Clifford got a hold of our mini tennis ball and completely demolished it when he chewed it up like it was nothing more than a cookie dough. I feared the dog might swallow it. This particularly concerned me because of a different incident that occurred my first time visiting the park.At that time, I hadnt realized an area existed for small dogs, so little dude and I were in the large area. I tossed him what I thought was a standard-sized tennis ball until an indignant woman with the tone of a neighborhood busybody lectured me about the non-standard size of the ball. She said it posed a danger to large dogs like hers who loved to chomp on balls and could accidentally swallow my offensive sphere, choke, and die. (What a lovely welcome to the park. Sheesh!)Given that history, I wasnt looking to have any issues with Clifford making a meal of our mini ball and being injured. Nor was I interested in potentially being the recipient of ire from his beer-soaked owners. (If this is even a fraction of what parents of human children go through with other parents, Im glad I dont have kids!)Still, we continue to visit Hillside. Most of the time, my dog and I have a fun time. He gets to happily bounce around leash-free and meet other little dogs, and I make small talk with chill owners.
One of my favorite places for three dogs now. The great equalizer. You’ll meet all kinds of people from all walks of life here and they all have one thing in common: they love their dogs. Whether owners, walkers, guardians, or parents, all are welcome here.
This is ours and our dogs favorite park ever! Weve been to several around the city and travel quite a bit. However, the size of this dog run as well as optionality between the smaller enclosed space vs larger enclosed space is ideal. Its never too crowded and if you go during a weekday late afternoon or evening you are sure to have the dog run to yourself or share it with only 1-2 dogs. The only downside is there isnt any grass, its mostly dirt. However, weve yet to see any dog run in the city that does, so...
A lot of space for our loved 4 legged friends. It’s wide enough in all directions for your dog to burn energy and meet others dog.
I really love the size of this dog park which is great for the larger dogs to really stretch out and run around. Again, really thankful for this park! I feel the group, city, or organization overseeing this park do a great job to maintain it. I noticed this spring it had been replenished with mulch, which is great for keeping the dirt level down as the big guys get to running around and playing. I feel this dog park is well maintained and cared for overall. On a bit of a different note, there are a couple of dog walkers that come there with many dogs each around midday and they sometimes dont do the best job managing their dogs from bothering other dogs. Its a bit annoying, but not a huge deal. I am pretty sure that our dog got kennel cough after visiting this dog park as well. Our dog is fully vaccinated yearly and is current on everything including lepto and bordatella, but still developed kennel cough. Thankfully, with a bit of tlc and care, our dog was over it in a few days. Please be sure your dog is fully vaccinated before bringing them to a popular dog park like this or allowing your dog walker to bring dog if not current on the dogs vax. If your dog does develop a cough or symptoms, from what I read they should be kept away from other dogs to the extent possible for a couple of weeks.Aside from typical people/dog issues, this dog park is great, well maintained, and cared for. Thank you to Hillside Dog Park for the upkeep and care for our fur friends to enjoy and socialize.
Fenced in on all sides which is perfect for ownera who have any doggos that like to wander. Very large space for being in the middle of a city (about 1 acre). Flat and with woodchips and picnic tables on one end, and the other is hilly with trees - environments for all kinds of dogs. Hoses with running water for dogs to cool off on hot days, as well as a doggy water fountain for them to get clean drinking water.
This is a large dog park with multiple entrances. It has picnic tables to sit at, lots of trees, and a big open area. There is a also smaller section of the dog park for a calmer experience. My dog loved playing with all the other dogs here in the early afternoon. I will definitely be back.
Im so happy I found it yesterday and went with my hound there. This is the best dog run Ive seen so far. The size! The trees! Mulch! Such luxuries after visiting depressing, all-concrete Parks Dog run and, unfortunately, too small Fishbridge Park on Manhattan side. Absolutely worth a short car ride from Manhattan for me. It is going to be a joint family effort with my hubby sitting in the car and waiting for us, bc parking is scarce, but he doesnt mind, thanks to podcasts:-) It will work and I am SO relieved that I found a place to give my unexpected, large breed rescue a proper workout.
My dogs had fun. I didn’t like the simplicity of the place and never returning again because there’s no parking around, very difficult to find!
Sultan my American pitbull terrier had fun.
This is a great dog park! There are always a lot.of dogs here and is a great spot for them to run around and socialize. Theres also a smaller fenced off section if your dog doesnt like a lot of other dogs around. In warm weather, there is a bath to cool the dogs off, as well as a hose and a few water fountain areas. Its also close to Brooklyn bridge park and the area has great views!
There’s too much dust, if you are allergic to dust don’t come here
A big enough park for dogs to do dashes and fetches. Dogs here are usually not aggressive, and even the one or two times there were a dog that didnt have the right kind of chemistry with my dog, the other dog owner (who came after me) were respectful and left the park with the dog. The park can be a little crowded on a nice day on the weekends.
Nice, large fenced in area for dogs to play. There are picnic benches and water fountain (a low one for dogs and regular one for humans). A bit noisy due to the big roads nearby but that is to be expected for the middle of Brooklyn. My dog loves to run around and play here!
Clean dog park. Very spacious and enough room for dogs and their owners to spread out and do their own thing, or mingle. My dog is rescue puppy and very shy - there was lots of room for her to do things on her own and play with others once she was ready.Secure entrance gates on all four sides of the park. Trash cans are in each corner. It was my first time driving down there, and it was tough finding street parking on a saturday. I spent about 20 min driving around the area searching for a spot. If all else fails there are several car garages near by ($10-15/hr) - I ended up doing that.
This is one of the best dog runs in New York City. Its a large fenced area with plenty of seating, shade, and dirt. Theres a busy road beside it but its behind some trees. Lots of room to run around and explore for your furry friend.
A great dog park but dont go when the dog walkers are there on weekdays. One walker tried to hit my dog for sniffing one of the (more than 10) dogs that she and her group had with them. Another (from another company) was almost physically aggressive with an owner because the walker wasnt paying attention to the dog she had with her and the owners dogs barked at it.Other than a few non-regulars, most of the owners are responsible, close the gates properly, and keep an eye on their dogs. The amount of space is great and therere a lot of interesting plants and trees to entertain your dog. In the summer its really nice.
The best dog park in NYC hands down. Do note that the fountains get turned off for the winter so if your pup gets a bit thirsty while playing i recommend brining some water. Best to try finding parking at the top of the hill then walk down. I usually find a spot 8 out of 10 times.
By far the best dog park in BK! My pup loves the bath tub and is able to run free in the large space. All the dogs here are great and very playful. This dog park is head and shoulders above the rest!
Best fenced in dog park in western Brooklyn. Long runs, area for smaller dogs.
Hillside Park became part of our morning routine while we stayed in Brooklyn over the holidays. Its a GREAT dog park, big enough for a good run, a place to meet friendly dogs and their well-behaved owners! Convenient to just about everything.
This is a very popular dog park. There are regular deliveries of wood chips. The water fountains have built in doggie bowls. During the winter months you will see the local children sledding after a fresh snow fall.
Best dog park in the city. Huge, dirt/grass, varied terrain. Is fantastic. Unfortunately, our little guy got shaken by a big dog, so be careful bringing small breeds.
Let your pooch run free in this large 2+ acre park with natural wood chips. Dog/human water fountains available for refreshments during the warm months and a separate gated area for smaller pups.
Great experience. This is actually a dog run. If you do not have a dog, are allergic or just dislike dogs, then this is not a park for you. Huge landscape perfect for the dogs to let their energy out. Lots of trees and hills. Picnic tables for owners to relax while their dog is having fun. The people were pleasant and were paying attention to their pets (making sure everyone was getting along). There is a large bathtub for the dogs to cool off in the heat and a hose to fill the tub on your own. Definitely one of the best dog runs Ive been to.
Don’t love that it’s right along the highway, but it’s safe and a nice park full of friendly dogs and humans. Plus once you’re done playing, you can walk along the boardwalk looking out across Manhattan which is so beautiful
Awesome size, plenty of room for dogs to run.
Big space with benches under old tries. All kinds of dogs. Soil covered with wood chips makes your shoes stained in all kinds of weather,so just be ready and dont wear fancy shows. I liked the atmosphere.
This is a nice dog run. Its spacious and has two sections. It also has a doggie pool and water fountain. The downside is that its a Giardia breeding ground. My dog has gone there twice, and both times he picked up Giardia. The cause lies in both the water and wood chips. Ive seen dogs put their paws into the drinking bowl, and I dont know how often the wood chips are changed, but if your dog fetches the ball or picks up a wood chip, bam, youve got Giardia. Watch your dog carefully if you go here, and if you see runny stool, check with your vet and test your pooch for Giardia.
It was A great experience. All of the dogs were so happy and playful. Even the dog with the peanut butter jar stuck on his snout was running around. There was A man running after him with his pants around his ankles. It was very strange
It is always a joy to be here watching my dog and all of the neighborhood dogs run their little tails off. so much happiness. its always well maintained and as wild as you can get for an off leash in the city.
Even my dog doesnt like it here he sits and stares at a tree hes actively tried to commit suicide in this park on several occasions.
Fun place to come with friends and family and of course your dog! Always clean. Very friendly and quite neighborhood Totally different from the rest of the city. Very close to Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge Park area.
Huge dog park. Actual trees and mulched ground and pretty surroundings. Room for simultaneous dog piles and multiple fetch games. Park benches to rest your feet and avoid getting trampled by the pack.
A fantastic dog park, maybe the best in the whole city (besides the parks during dog hours)Great hill to tire out your pups.Theres a smaller enclosed dog area for the wee pups
This might be the best dog park in NYC. Good size with shade and seating area. There’s water fountain so dogs can stay hydrated.
Great place for dogs to run around big area of land a few picnic tables there to sit and watch dogs play
Solid park. Big, nice wood chips. Friendly dogs. Downside is there are a ton of exits and entrances and it can be a lot to track if you have multiple dogs
Great dog park, love this place and my dog does too. Its really nice that they have a hose here for hot days to cool down the dogs
Super cute place. Dogs seem to love it here!
This Brooklyn Heights park, aptly named for the sloping space it occupies, is located east of Columbia Heights and south of Vine Street. Acquired by Parks in 1946 and in 1947 during the proceedings for the mapping of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, then known as the Brooklyn-Queens Connecting Highway, this site was not needed for the highway construction itself, so it became parkland.
A great place for pups to mingle and people watch. Not the best kept park around but an ample amount of space to run.
Biggest dog run around, lots of open space to run and play but also good shady areas with bushes and trees to really let your pup squatch out.
My pup loves it so I love it.
Full of nice and respectful dog owners. Just watch out for the giant bath they love to jump into
The dogs at this park plays well with each other and the owners seems to enjoy playing also.
Never went there but Ive seen dogs having blast! The park is huge.
A cute dog is running! her name is Lily❤I wanted to run Lily here.Lily died 7 years ago.
Great dog park, love that there’s a hose and tub available.
Huge park and easy to get to from the ferry
Enjoyed every moment there. You can closely see NY and some part of Statue of Liberty from far. River ferry also goes from here.
Best for big dogs but there are a lot it is a lot of space to run around and threw the ball or Frisbee thats very lovely
I just saw this park from across the street. There were dogs playing there. they looked like they were having fun.
An amazing and humongous dog park in this metropolis. There are occasional flare ups between pups, but thats par for the course at dog parks.
People that come here are nice most of the times. The place is big and I can say It is recommended.
This park has a reputation for aggressive dogs and dog owners/walkers who stand around and dont do anything. Its not lit at night which makes it dangerous, especially in the winter months with the after work crowd who cant see whats going on. Overall have seen blood and multiple dog fights break out. The compost feature and volunteers who uphold the park are great, but it doesnt make up for the irresponsible dog owners who frequent.
Excellent park for all breeds and energy levels.
Great dog park. Lots of open space. My dogs like it here a lot.
Large dog park Im Dumbo. Smaller section available too. Hit or miss with dog owners. Sometimes too many dogs and people not paying attention.
Elderly lady with a couple dogs of her own. Argues over a ball & blames it on someone that doesn’t know anything about it. First time there and she picks a fight. Physically hits dogs.
Nice place to bring your dog. My Bella had an awesome time here.
If you have a dog in the 11201 zip code, this is the place to bring it. It is dog heaven.
Great space for bigger dogs with lots of space to run around.
Must know this place if you are local. Not the best one I ever been to, but good.
The close side of the park is a large hill that is excellent for sledding in the winter!
Lots of space with plenty of trees and benches. Mostly dirt though and right next to the highway.
Great dog park! Very big and room to run
Big dog park, great area for the doggos to run and play
Large and best dog run and near the Brooklyn Bridge and water for the best views
Great place for dogs to get a lot of running around in the morning!
My heeler loves this park! Its beautiful and large.
Great spot to let your dog roam freely.
Best dog run in this part of Brooklyn. Can be muddy after rain.
Probably the best dog park in nyc including manhattan
Stay away. Dog flu!!! Too good to be true.
Great big hilly dog run that doubles as a sledding spot when it snows.
Very big park lots of space in a great area
Would roll in dirt/mud again...
Largest dog run in the area. Quite a lot of space.
Lots of space, and has a hose/wash station. Unfortunately the park is mainly dirt, so we have to shower off our dog every time.
I’m surprised that this dog park is so dirty lately. I’ve lived nearby for years; used to take my former dog here regularly. Just got new pup, and was disappointed at how much garbage is left around in the dog park, never mind the dirt. Why isn’t this public dog park - which is under the parks Dept better kept? Perhaps some gravel can be added rather than our dogs running around in dirt. Other dog parks, specifically in Williamsburg much cleaner and well cared for. Also dog owners: you need to get off your phone and pay attention to what your dog is doing, even though you are in a dog park, that doesn’t mean others should have to supervise your dogs behavior.
Beautiful park my dog loves it here
Awesome place for dogs to run free!
Huge variety of dogs on a Saturday afternoon, all of which were well socialized. Only negative experience was that the gates to get in and out are very unintuitive and possibly dont work as intended.
I I got parking ther but i zaw a beautifull dogs on this place and of cursé i I love dogs.....
Very big dog park
Great park, lots of space, trees, and seating
I like how everyone is freindlay and happier here.
Its definitely not a friendly neighborhood dog run but its a good place to take your dog for exercise. Its huge and has good ground cover so dogs arent too dirty when they leave.
Stumbled upon here one day with my 2 dogs and was super happy. It was such a big dog run and they loved it. Many other really great dogs, they all seemed to play well or avoided confrontations. If your in the neighborhood I recommend taking your dog here.
Love it here. So does my pup
Best. Dog. Park. Room to roam & run
Huge park to take your dog!
This is a tough one. I mean, if youre really looking to find that special dog park - well then, chances are you dont live around here. I mean, really. Who commutes with mans best friend just so he/she can evacuate bowls/bladder and play nice with the other perros? It stands to reason that this is frequented by folks within a 1 mile radius, and it surely must be a luxury to let fido off the leash. I mean, no one near here has a backyard to speak of, so this replicates what the suburbanites have on a day-to-day basis. You dont come here expecting a tableau of impressionist verdance. The primary hues are earthen. You DO come here to let the dogs out as it were - and give yourself and your pooch confidence that urban confines, while a reality 99% of the time, can be placed on hold while youre within these chain-linked fences. If I were a dog-person, Id come here. It just so happens that I married into dog people, so its slowly becoming familiar to me.
Great space for energetic dogs to run around.
Best dogpark Ive been to. Dogs are always friendly and woodchips keep things relatively clean

Best dog park in Brooklyn
Very good view of Manhattan, good restaurants and bars.
This is my first contact with HILLSIDE DOG PARK. I don’t know its actual purpose. It is probably a place for dogs to have a social gathering and a place for dog owners to communicate and raise their dogs. The designer has other ideas, thank you!
Curious place, you can even bathe your dog
Can see the view of the bridge in New York City
It is a very nice dog area
