This place is now turf and there are no pebbles. The area is small but great so the dogs don’t get super dirty. Dogs here are friendly and are all sizes. @misothebernedoodle_ loves it here
Fantastic dog run. Highly recommended.
We visited visited the first time, two days ago. Im giving this dog run 4 stars for its size, the demeanor/behavior of the other dogs and owners, the shadiness from the surrounding trees, and the fact there were several water bowls and a water fountain that had a high spout for quick showers of the dogs and a lower spout to fill an attached bowl.I took off one star for its dirtiness. I dont know if theres just a higher percentage of long-haired dogs here vs other turfed dog runs weve been to, or if the owners here dont regularly brush or otherwise groom their dogs, but there was an insane amount of long fur piled up on the edges (where the cement bleachers start) and all over the turf. I was there with my dog for 20 mins, and within the first couple of throws of his ball, his ball and his mouth had all kind of fur stuck to them. Every time hed come back, I was pulling fur out of his mouth. The next day, there was visible long white dog hair in his poop.Hopefully, there can be some kind of actual maintenance (not sure whos responsible. Parks Dept?), other than owners picking uo their dogs poop. I have turf in my backyard, and we actually have an outdoor vacuum made specifically for turf, so its not a complicated matter.
Definitely a definition of a dog run as it’s not a huge area, but very well maintained. Astroturf surface so easier on the paws and actually quite well shaded by the surrounding ring of trees. Often at least another pup friend there from the neighboring buildings but good idea to bring a ball just in case.
Very nicely executed dog park with everything one would need in a dog park except separate sections for small and big dogs. Makes me feel like everyone doesn’t have a job except for me LOL.
One of the better dog runs I’ve been to and in a great location. Very clean, well maintained, not right on top of traffic. Astroturf which cleans up well. Dog bowls, water hose. Friendly place and well enclosed/safe to let dogs run free. Wish there were some public restrooms on-site.
Update july 2022: they took away the rocks and laid down turf!! so much better!!my dog loves it here. shes small-ish (19 lbs) and not shy. i feel safe bringing her here since theres just one entrance with a double gate. friendly and attentive owners.P.S. dont be confused by my pic; water is already available for the dogs here. i just bring my own sometimes.
This is a pretty great little dog run! I was skeptical at first because it’s a simple circular fenced in area and the entire thing is made up of small pebbles. I’m sure for some dogs this would be a turn off. However, my dog and many other local dogs seem to love the place. My big complaint is how hot it gets mid day. If there were only more tree cover, this little spot would get five stars.
*UPDATE JULY 2022: they took away the rocks and laid down turf! And they added a retractable hose. Looks great. Havent taken my dog there yet!One of our favorite dog parks in the area. I’ll usually go mid-day and its pretty quiet. Maybe 4 other dogs. There have been moments where there are lots of small dogs and sometimes theres only big dogs. Owners are attentive. Our dog loves the park but we definitely need to bring a ball or frisbee to keep her moving. There arent any structures they can run around and not much exploring. But I think that is fine every once in a while considering its a HUGE plus she doesnt need a bath afterwards. We’ll wipe her down and wash her paws in the tub! In the winter it gets very cold. I think the buildings around create a wind tunnel so i recommend bundling up.
Terrible! Dogs can barely run on the gravel ground. Why they would choose this material for a dog park is beyond me, worst park Ive ever been to. It is sad because this place would be amazing if it was dirt or turf.
**Updated Review: The park was recently updated from the hated pebbles to a nicer turf. It’s small, but good for a quick play. Turns out my dog still prefers hanging out with the dog owners on the stone wall. Go figure.Original Review: The park looks nice, but my dog hates the stones. It’s like a game of the floor is lava, he’ll only walk around the perimeter on the stone wall.
My dog and I love this park! It’s very well maintained and the other dogs and dog parents are always friendly.
Perfect for my medium sized dog. It’s a smaller dog park so there aren’t as many large dogs since the nearby Hillside Dog Park has a much larger space to run. There are hoses and water fountains which makes it easy to keep my dog hydrated.
Dog parks are for dogs - please stop bringing your young children to “play” with the dogs. It’s dangerous for everyone.
My pup had a good time, however she is still young and likes to hide out sometimes around larger dogs and there isnt really a place to do that here as its wide open with no tables or things like that. Also she found a hole under the fence with sharp ends exposed that I had to pull her out of. Luckily she didnt get out or hurt (picture).Update 11 23 19: There is now chicken wire covering the hole, however the sharp ends are still very much exposed (updated picture)
Quite nice! good size, a bit smelly.
Deceivingly tiny. Definitely dont recommend dogs that need to run or dont do well in tight spaces if theres no room to burn the energy off. Very clean, though...
My dog loves coming here! Its a great, small, neighborhood park. Its also right next to a dog training place which was nice to dip into to grab a ball to play with when I forgot to bring one
Looks like most of the complaints have addressed. Turf, a hose, seating for dog owners all the way around, dog stays clean and gets worn out. Mission accomplished.Should be a 4.77 score 😉
Love this place but wish there was a way to keep the water flowing in the winter. The hose and water bowls need to be replaced
I would disagree with the other reviews about not liking the gravel. It was discussed at great length whether it should be dirt or gravel. Gravel is easy to clean up after and not disgusting. I am so glad I dont have to give my dog a bath every time I come here. Your dog is in view at all time; making it a safe place. In general small dogs tend to be picked on because they are small as such it doesnt matter what dog park you go to.
Really small circular run with turf. No separate small/big dog areas.
Best dog run in the area for small and mid size dogs ❤️
Very nice
The dog park is better since they changed the gravel, but the water fountain doesnt always work and your dog is going to get dirty no matter what. Still, being right by the water is quite nice.
Horrible park. No grass or dirt. The park is layered with pebbles which get extremely hot. Theres no actual shade. Its too small. And there are too man untrained owners there. Every two seconds there is a problem because of an untrained owner. Ill never be going back. Take your dog somewhere else.
Smaller than I imagined. Clean though. People were nice. Dogs were good except one dog that kept harassing my dog. My dog is small so when a slew of big dogs came, we left.
Lots of dogs but very little shade and the pebble floor is hard on their feet (they end up running around the cement edge a lot) and they come back dusty and smelly. Dirt is much better.Drys quickly after rain though which is nice. Great location.
One of the best in NYC. Pro tip — go during sunset
The park is clean and there are plenty of spots to sit in the shade on a hot day. There is also a water fountain for the pups. The only thing I dont like is that it is all gravel. It does keep it cleaner than some other parks, but my dog doesnt like it as much.
No shade whatsoever and nothing but stones? This is the worst design for a dog park. It gets way too hot in the sun for your dog to enjoy themselves, and youre roasting along with them. Put down wood chips and put up some awnings. I guess they dont really want to pay to maintain it. Really disappointed.
Took my boys there today, but was disappointed when I arrived. First of all the point on the map is wrong and there is no clear direction where it is located. There is one directional sign next to the water on the pier which points towards Atlantic. The dog run is located across from the pier between Joralemon St and Furman next to the parking garage.First its a very clean and wide open run. Gravel filled with a place to water and even shower your dog/s. But unfortunately on a nice hot and sunny day there was virtually no shade. There is a raised around surround the run for people to sit, which is where the dogs preferred to hang out. The entire gravel area was exposed to direct sun light.Would have loved if they had some shade in the middle as well as stuff for the dogs to climb and jump on/over.
Water fountains for people and dogs are off for the winter. But well maintained, beautiful scenery nearby and private parking lot right next door
Friendly attentive owners, smaller park but still room to run, and shade trees and places to sit. It has pebbles instead of dirt which some doggies dont like but most are fine with. Also the BQE is nearby so if youre little guy is spooked by car noises maybe take that into consideration. Finally, it has high rises on three sides so in the fall and Winter when its windy theres kind of a wind tunnel effect where its VERY windy. Otherwise our go to dog run.
Terrible experience and poorly designed for small dogs. While there was a small dog area, it was occupied by an aggressive German Shepard mix.I had my Italian Greyhound play in the large dog area which is poorly secured. Additional fencing is needed at the entrance. Owners are clueless and inconsiderate. As one of the owners left, I had to lunge to get my dog from escaping through the gate and she had bumped my arm and lost grip of my dog. He escaped through the main entrance gate due to his small frame. He ran off into the street and traffic for several blocks as I ran after him. He could not hear my call because of the train noise at the Manhattan bridge. I dont recommend this dog run. I cannot express the agony I had sustained in this situation. Take your dog somewhere else.
Unless your dog lifts weights and has paws the size of dinner plates Id avoid this park on account of the large rocks they have decided is suitable for a floor. Smaller dogs cant even run in the park and are relegated to the concrete bench so their paws dont hurt.Perhaps we should organize a hostile takeover of the nearby childrens playground using the aforementioned weight lifting dogs, that place looks a lot more fun...
Just a note that a few of the reviews below are for a different dog park. Any remarks about train noise or the small dog area are actually referring to the Dumbo dog park near Plymouth St, under the Manhattan Bridge. The Pier 6 dog run doesnt have a small dog area and its not near the bridges.
Awful. The gravel is awful - even the dogs dont like it and the water has never worked. Front gate is hard to close.
The gravel surface is a poor choice. None of the dogs wanted to play on it, they all stuck to the cement bench around the perimeter. Replace with grass!
Great place for your dog to play and exercise
Majority of park was gravel... Dogs cant run well on gravel.. it should be named Pier 6 Dog Walk(very carefully)
Clean, quiet and very friendly dog here
Just big liter plate😁
Dog friendly park.
Nice clean park. Quiet at times. Owners are pretty good about cleaning up after their dogs.
Fantastic place to go with family
Good spot itself. With artificial hill and smaller spot inside. But located right under the Manhattan bridge. So, you have to listen only the music of trains. We were there once with my doggie. Will not repeat. I prefer the sounds of nature.
My dog (and I) couldn’t be happier with this place
Small circle of stones. Thats it
Noisy, tiny, and empty when I visited. My dog had trouble running on the gravel.
Sweet place
It is amazing! My dog has always had a great time off-leash. Although I think it is a little uncomfortable for some dogs, especially when they run. // Its a great place for dogs to play and be off leash at any time of the day. However, I think the stones are a little uncomfortable for some dogs, especially when running.
Excellent for me milu
