Prospect Park Dog Beach is an excellent spot for dogs to cool off and play. The off-leash area includes a sectioned swimming zone where dogs can safely enjoy the water. Owners are considerate, keeping an eye on their pets and respecting those that need space. Its an ideal activity for hot summer days, with plenty of splashing and fun. A great option for dog owners looking to exercise and entertain their pets in a friendly, outdoor setting.
Beautiful dog park if your dog likes to swim. Can sit here and watch for hours. Give them a try!
The water is fenced so that the dogs can only go so far and then everything behind you (towards park and ball fields) is open/unfenced. Great spot for dogs to take a dip and cool off in the summer.
Such a gem in the city! I only wish it were closer. The dogs can run and play in the big open field, or dip their feet in the roped off pond area.
Great little spot for my dog to go off leash and have some fun in the park. He’s still too timid to swim but the other dogs are great motivators. I like bringing him here on special “treat yourself” long walk days. He loves it.
I have an English American Coonhound, who is a walk-a-holic! If your on vacation with your Extended K-9 son, daughter or best friend, treat them to this beautiful place. He/She, will have wonderful dreams of this sanctuary for life, and so will you!
A picturesque off the leash area for dogs to cool off. Be sure your dog is trained to be off the leash as this area has no fencing and opens in to the park in general. This place also has a couple of benches for you to sit while your furry friend enjoys a swim
A great spot for dogs to cool off. Very pretty and plenty of space. This area is NOT enclosed. If your dog runs off (like mine) you need to be constantly be on watch/ stand on the edge.
Is a very small “beach” space, but the whole area of prospect park is so worth it! If your dog really likes water it’s nice!
Tell your dog not to drink the high bacteria laden water..
Beautiful park. Especially in the fall. It’s got designated bbq areas, public bathrooms, kids playground, off leash dog walking areas during certain hours of the day, picnic tables, even a little dog water area for those water loving labs and goldens! It’s also got a running/walking trail and a biking trail as well. Great park!
Whenever I visit or move to a new place, my pup picks her favorite park and it becomes our favorite park. This time we both loved the same park at the same time. What a great piece of green paradise within a great area of Brooklyn!
Love enjoys the eater but dogs arent on leashes and even though the rules say so they still dont. Nice little bit of water park for dogs lol
The lake is fenced in so the dogs cant swim far out but the beach area itself is not fenced. Technically, in all NYC parks (except in designated areas) dogs are only allowed off-leash before 9am and after 9pm. Theres a sign on the dog beach indicating something to that effect. In short, the dog beach is NOT an off-leash area so taking your dog off the leash could mean steep fines if youre caught by Parks Dept or NYPD and potentially increased liability for you if something happens involving your dog. Also, people (without dogs) bring kids here to pet/poke other peoples dogs so incidents are all too common and with an off-leash dog, the handler will have to assume full liability even when its obviously the actual fault of the children and their caretakers. (Trust me - Im a Juris Doctor.)Still a great spot because there arent many places like this in NYC.
Simply the best heavenly place dogs (and those who love pups) can find in New York.. visit this park on weekend and there will be countless leash free & happy pups! (Absolutely no aggressiveness found in all my past visits - no wonder why.. )
The dog beach is a great spot for all dogs - those who are trained to be off leash and on leash. The beach itself is not very large but there is usually a pretty consistently flow of dogs coming and going to interact with. It has benches and the lake is not too deep.
There are no fences but its a tiny little beach that your dog can go play fetch in. So refreshing. Its a sweet little spot.
Excellent spot to bring the dog to enjoy some fresh cool water, play catch or just hang around. There are benches on both sides and some nice boulders to sit waterside (if you dont mind being splashed by dogs shaking water off ;) )Located just past the softball fields. If your dog is not friendly, DO NOT COME!Friendly dogs only!!!!!Turtles and swans and ducks all around as well.Enjoy
An actual swimming spot for city dogs, and a great way to burn some puppy energy in the summer heat. Can get a bit crowded, and sometimes there are lots of onlookers or kids around, but the park is lovely and the pond is usually very clean.
Great spot to cool off in Brooklyn. I wish the fence went out a bit further. But it’s very well designed with the boulders preventing your dog getting muddy.
Nice spot for dog happiness.Would not bring a puppy.
A great spot to take your pup when the weather is nice. Ours had never gone into the water until we took her here and she saw everyone else having fun in the lake.
LOVE IT!! Such a cute spot to hang out. There are some benches around that are a nice place to take a minute and just watch the dogs having a blast (whether you have one there or not). When a strangers dog brings me a ball to throw for them, my heart honestly skips a beat. So... if you need some joy in your life I highly recommend stopping by if youre in the park!
Great little water feature in the corner of a pond. Deep enough for dogs to swim and retrieve items. Shallow area is good for non-swimmers. My dogs havent gotten sick from the water. Lots of good plays for the floofs
If you love dogs, you’ll love this spot even without a dog of your own.
A tiny beach area but still attracts a handful of dogs on weekends. and they seem to be having fun!
We had a great day , its a very clean doggie lake, friendly dogs and humans lots of fun, we saw turtles, hawks, and a beautiful egret😄
A great spot for dogs to cool off.
Usually very busy. Good place to go if your pups like water. However, if your furry friends run small, be careful as some bigger and more energetic dogs can easily knock them down - the space is very limited for the amount of dogs. If youre not a dog owner, but love animals, this is a wonderful spot to observe fluffy beauties and get a dose of fuzziness.
I love this park ! Perfect place if you have a dog
Awesome
Really cute and relaxing. Great shade and water view
Nice spot but questionable cleanliness. My dog loves going in but got giardia.
I love this little section. It has steps into the water so a dog can decide how much water they want to be in. Down side is its not fenced in, its crowded and bigger dogs who get super excited bully smaller dogs often. My senior beagle loves the water but we have to go super early or labs run him over and he gets real cranky.
Nice place to be around, especially if you love dogs and like to watch them playing. Stay a little away from dogs getting out of the water, as you can get a free shower, sometimes with mud. Children love that area as well, though not allowed to swim, unlike dogs. And there are a couple benches on each side protected by branches , so you can find a shaded area to sit.
Our pup was very tentative with water until we brought her here. As soon as she saw other dogs swimming, she lunged after them and started to swim herself. The area is not enclosed, so if your dog is not good on recall, it’s worth bringing a long lead. But otherwise, it’s absolute fun.
Such a fun place to visit, both for people and dogs! Theres benches to sit and relax on while you take on the scenery, or let your furry companion run around and swim with other fellow doggies, or even allow your children to simply explore the area and play with some of the energetic dogs there. My kids and I visit here often, and I guess you could say its one of our favorite places to visit at prospect Park. You should definitely check it out
The little lake area is great for dogs who like to swim or even for those who are getting started. Definitely good for off leash area. I only wish one of the meadows was enclosed so those dogs with weak recall could run around and the owners can be carefree.
IMHO 9st playground is the best. My kids love it, easily accessible and for the love of God there is a bathroom (not just a port a potty). Sprinklers in the summer, so bring a change!
The dog beach is a creature categorically of the unknown. If you come here expecting a typical site for a dog beach, I would have no idea how to relate the scene I found. In lieu of sun tanned pugs, pitbulls scrolling their NYT dailies with piña coladas in paw, Aussies gossiping about the latest reality news, or Samoyeds slipping to the bar for a dignified cool down, the scene was entirely too active for my taste. Several dogs went into the water and not merely to show off their fashionable collars, but to move to and fro and even up and down. Humans stood on the shores and sat on the benches to observe, like referees in the midst of a heated tennis game. They eagerly engaged, throwing balls hither and thither like a water polo captain learning to play softball. The dogs, seemingly unwilling to train their humans out of such manners, rushed side to side to catch them like so many goalies guarding a dugout at the type of childrens chess match one often finds on Brooklyn street corners. One cannot trust these children.I had thought better than this of the dogs but I tarried to tell them so, and when I did speak up they were as wonderfully congenial as any dogs Id met, apologizing profusely for any damage caused, physical, emotional, or geographical given my line of work, by their dual-legged companions. One, a better-known colleague of David Remnick, even offered a verse hed written that morning over coffee, as a contribution to the mission of my work:Oh, I miss you sun. Were you ever thereAt all or was it some trick of the light? Were you ever you, or just some blindingStolen neon sign blinking off at night,Sipping martinis until daybreak callsAnd wishing in silence that the world wouldTurn a little faster so if everAfter it did you would do what you could?Did I ever miss you at all? I callMyself I - oh, was I ever at all?Remnick himself came up afterward and claimed he had helped Apawrno with the editing process but I hesitate to give out multiple authorship as if it were stripes on a bucket hat at Nordstrom Rack.
I thought it was nice how many people came to enjoy this small stagnant pool of water. However, there’s also children who are running around without their parents and one of them kept pushing dogs into the water and threw several balls over the fence that guards the “beach.” Additionally, my dog got an ear infection after swimming in this. Do not recommend, it’s more of a nuisance than enjoyable. It’s dirty, and too small for even the smallest dogs to enjoy.
Really fun place for my boys! The water can get pretty murky and unfit for swimming but were talking a doggy beach! For dogs! My boys seem to love it, so why wouldnt I give it a good rating. I did see a little boy go in the water there once, under the water, bad parenting. I digress.I would love if there were a fence around to close off and keep them off leash without worrying of them sharing the cooling mist of a dog shaking all over unsuspecting park patrons. A long leash or dont be afraid to get your feet wet and its fun for the both of you. There are a couple benches on either side of the opening. Which a lot of people without dogs choose to sit there. You people will not have a good time, if you dont like dogs and dont like water, I do not feel sorry for you and fair game to get splashed.
Quite small and a true stretch to call it a beach (there is no sand, just a flat rock stepway into the water). Its about 40ft across at max and is not really separated from the walkways where dogs are not allowed off leash. But the people are friendly and its a nice amenity to have.
This is not a park or a run. Its a completely open corner of fence that extends into the water so the pups cant swim too far. Its not enclosed at all and dogs should be on their leashes so they dont run off. In the 5 minutes we were there, three separate dogs got loose and ran off into the park where there were hundreds of other people.
This place is sooo lovely 🥰🥰🥰 I just happened to be in Prospect Park when I came upon the dog beach. Its like a small oasis for dogs and their owners. The dogs can romp around in the water to their hearts delight 🤣😂🤣 Though I dont have any dogs, I sat there for a while just to watch the funny, happy dogs, and enjoyed myself so much.
Small beach for dogs to cool down in the summer and go for a swim not too deep or far out because its guarded by water deep fence that dogs cant jump or swim under. But you have to Beware of how the water looks algae and ducks swim there and sometimes water doesnt look too good.
A lovely patch of forest to wander through and sort out your thinky pains. Best enjoyed in Autumn with someone to hold close in the crisp evening air.
Small fenced in area separates the surrounding pond/lake with a sandy and rocky beach. Has a few benches for dog watchers to enjoy the pups play in the water, just deep enough for big dogs to be able to swim without touching the bottom.
Brought my dog here once and the following day he formed an abscess on his tongue and an AWFUL infection due to bacteria. The water definitely needs to be cleaned properly and warnings should be posted. My poor dog is currently on steroids and antibiotics after having to be sedated due to this. $300 later and now Im here worrying about my best friends health.
Perfect peace and tranquility for dogs and their humans. This place is nirvana. It makes having a dog a blessing. My dogs had a GREAT time every time. The other dogs humans were friendly. Good experience all around.
The water seemed dirty but that was not my problem....I felt it was dangerous...my dog kept falling on her chest bc there would be a rock and you take a step and theres no floor. This would be safer if they could actually seeing the water where they are walking.
Dogs arent always there, and when theyre not it is serene.
This is a cool place to take the dog just for the change of scenery. The pond aka the “beach” isn’t as big as I imagined. The water was not the cleanest. The other dogs there and their owners were awsome. finding parking if you are driving from another borough maybe difficult depending on the day. There are no parking garages in the area. This part of Brooklyn is absolutely stunning. The walk from where we parked the car and to the dog beach was awsome. I recommend this place for a nice hot summer day if ur in the area and need a quick cool down break for the pups but I won’t be coming back here anytime soon.
Part of the park with a small lake and fenced off area for dogs to swim and play.
Wonderful off leash area for dogs to swim and play. The swimming area is roped in the but not the “beach” (it’s rocks). Absolutely amazing on a hot summer day. Closed in the winter.
Should NOT be open in summer! The algae blooms in Prospect Park Lake are quite dangerous to dogs. The City needs to stop pretending its not a problem. ONLY use this in early spring and late fall!
The fence is only in the water, it doesnt completely surround the area but all the dogs and people were really friendly and nice and the scenery is beautiful
Just about always has other dogs to play with, fun to have a place for pups to swim, but be warned that theres no fencing/enclosure, so only come here if you trust your dog to come when called
Prospect Park is so charming, and this dog beach is great. We used to take our dog here when I was a kid like, twenty years ago. Good to see it up and running again.
Nice place. Took our pup for the first time experience with a proper water body along with other dogs. he thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend.
This is not a beach, it’s a pond, that looks a bit dirty cuz the water doesn’t move much. And since you can only let your dog free during the night it’s hard to take him there to enjoy the water
Such a lovely green space! Places for BBQ and picnic all around. Great place for families. The dog beach is amazing fun!!
Great space. Friendly dogs. Not enclosed so be sure your pup has some solid recall or you may find yourself taking a brief tour of the park.
A great spot to take your dog off leash even if your dog doesn’t know how to be off leash yet. As long as there are other dogs there in and out of the water to hold your dogs attention.
It is one of my favorite places to visit in the park. Watching the dogs frolic in the water is such a joy. Its a must see to understand.
Great place to take your dog to cool off. The area is not fenced off and it isnt that big but its good enough. My dog loved it.
Recently updated, way more dog friendly.
Its nice to have. There are some breaks in the fence, so make sure to watch your dog so they dont swim outside the swim area.
Beautiful place but owners need to be aware of people who are not interested in petting their dogs. IJS
Attempted to go but of course parking is horrible, I had to go to another dog park! I heard good things about this doggy park too bad parking is the problem!
Cool place, cool people, amazing dogs
Its a marsh with algae. Its covered. Dont bring your pet unless you want them to grow bacteria on skin and smell bad. Did I mention the snapping turtles and how small it is, no room for them to even swim there are boulders in the water. Not worth it.
One of my favorite spots to take my pup to play. The dog beach is fenced is so the dogs don’t go too far out into the water.
Cool trip taking the trails to the dog beach. My pup had fun running on the rocks after the other dogs.
Was getting hype to go here. Not risking the health of my dog due to the algae blooms. Clean the damn water New York.
Bella had a great time, a ball one can say! 🐶🏞❤
Perfect dog hangout, especially in the summer. Inside the beach, off-leash is all day. Dog owners are conscious, respectful, and friendly.
This place is GREAT to take your dog swimming early in the season. BUT later in the summer season a toxic algae blooms and its not safe for the dog.
It was all fun until our dogs ended up get worms. Great another expense to pay for 🙄 the water is not maintained or cleaned well.
My dog likes it here. The only thing they can add is a fence to keep the dogs in, while they are running around. Always a good crowd of dogs and owners.
So I dont actually have a dog but Im a certified personal trainer & everytime I train legs I walk though Prospect Park & I pass this place. From the looks of it the dogs really enjoy that damn area 😆 Im always wondering what are they thinking as they run all over the place like they aint got no damn sense😆
Small spot and not very beach-y, but great place for the pup to get in the water!
Such a cute spot for off leash dogs looking to get cool! Kinda looks like a Monet painting
Who love dogs should visit this great place. There are places to seat. And you could spend a good time. Suggested:)
I brought my dog René here and unfortunately it is closed for the season but it is an awesome experience for dogs especially if they love water it is located off of prospect park wests bath house
🥹 if you love dogs and need to turn that frown upside down, stopping by here is my best advice
So nice to have a little spot for my dog to get into the water at the park. Pretty under utilized in my opinion.
Great place for dogs to swim.
5/5 for taking dogs into consideration and wanting to provide a place for them to enjoy.1/5 in execution, its certainly not a dog park. Fence in the dog park and then its a dog park.
Saw some WET dogs here! Usually that sort of thing is totally discouraged by everybody but this is a sort of realm of misrule where wet dogs are encouraged
Love to bring my dogs & let them run free & do what dogs do best.... Have lots of fun 🐶
This is not only a great spot for your dog its also a fantastic place to bring toddlers to watch the dog having fun.
Lovely but not a beach. More like a lake side for dogs. The place is not fenced in
Not fenced area for off leash dogs. But water looks nice for dogs to swim in.
This place can be so amazing I wish it was maintained on a regular basis and also fenced so the dogs can’t run away.
Great place to take your pup to swim - small part of the lake is fenced off for dogs
This place is not only tiny, but its not even fenced off at all. Who in their right minds let their dogs completely off-leash in a public area like this?
Great place for your dog to cool off and go for a swim. I wish it was bigger and fenced off though.
Great place to spend 15-30 mins to decompress and watch neighborhood dogs drive their owners mad.
It is good that dog can jump in the water but it will get dirty and place is pretty small.
Nice place to bring your dog plenty of play area for them plus its a good place just to hang around
Lovely beach where dogs can freely play in the water. Fun for dogs and their owners :)
I love dogs.I love seeing happy dogs.
Great small dog beach (rocks). It does tend to get quite busy when you go during the day on the weekends.
Great place to bring your dog on a hot day. Only wish it was larger and closer to our apartment.
The trees were so randomly placed, and their twigs kept on tripping me! 😠Plus, there were so many bugs, like hire an exterminator 🤨Horrible experience
Good thing for the dogs to have. Wish it was a little bigger. As the years have gone on it has become busier.
A cool place for pooches to take a dip, retrieve a ball, and engage in all manner of mirthful dog play.
Great little alcove dedicated to dogs and water. Bring your pet and meet others
EXCELLENT TO BRING YOUR TRIAN DOG FOR THE FIRST TIME SO THAT HE OR SHE CAN MEET NEW DOG FRIENDS AS WELL AS NEW HUMAN FRIENDS.
Stunning fall scenery!
Nice place clean and espacios for our friends to play and run.
The bossy chihuahua was the best. She kept all the dogs in line!!! 10/10. Will be back.
It’s not a fenced in area for some reason, but still so fun.
Cool place with friendly dogs and owners but pretty small and get crowded often
Awesome! My puppy loves it and is disappointed if we don’t go regularly.
Parents letting there kids swim here even when sign says no humans . Beware and it’s not fenced in at all
Really nice spot for dogs to splish splash.Smaller in real life
“It’s like the F-train over here!”
How can this not be five stars? Whenever I am upset I go there to see dogs play, such a joy
Great.
Great place to bring your dog on a nice sunny day
A bit small. Wish they can extend the fence further out.
My favorite place in NYC to sit around! Right next to the open field, and lots of puppies running around. Highly reccomend posting up on a bench for some puppy and people watching.
Cute, small, fun place to watch pups wade in the water and play. ✨
If youre dog likes water, or if you like watching happy doggos, this is a must go to.
One of the best spots in this park, specially because you could find even parking spots inside the park....crazy no?
Lovely place to bring the dog. Shaded and very laid back.
Shallow water space for dogs. Super fun.
Water is a little dirty and it can get busy, but there is a ton of space in the area to run around.
More people than dogs, but great place for dogs in summer.
Really good for your dog you will love it sha
Its really small and hard to let your dog off leash when its crowded as its not enclosed
Always a good time for human and pups come see Penny and I.
Loved it the place is awesome for a nice picnic or just to hangout with friends and family
Got there. At 4pm Gate was locked. There was a large group of teens with bikes getting high, no dogs. Not one.
The best!
Lots of wildlife around
Always some good lookin doggos gettin wet.
Very picturesque
Fun place to stop by with the kids and see doggies swimming.
A beautiful view
I dont have a dogThose dog owners needs to pick up after their pets.
“Friends”
Plenty of friendly dogs, alpacina loved playing with them
Dog beach!
Great place for your dog to socialize with other dogs
I dont enjoy being around here when dogs are running wild. However, thats not to say its not a fun place for owners of dogs and even none owners, you might catch a glimpse of the random person bringing rabbits here and acting surprised by the raucous. All in all its a cool spot if youre nearby and you have a social dog (s). Or you just like me and love to watch people be people sometimes. The dogs will love it
Spending quality time with the family
Great place to chill with friends and watch the pups.
My dog love it, and if she does I do to..
My dog loves this beach during the summer
Awesome place to bring your dog or to hang out with some cute doggos
Nice walk around the back side of the pond in small wooded area
Very beautiful and relaxing place or for a good walk
Pup had a blast
Great
The only place for your pup to cool down
It’s another area of prospect parkSo beautiful
The dog beach is closed for the season (2016). Construction.
Smaller than I expected but a cute little beach with plenty of dogs playing off leash. Theres no fence unfortunately so dog can run off if it wants too.
A nice area of all sorts of environmental recreation.
Great place to go with your dogs! Mine dont often go in, but its fun to watch all the other pups enjoying themselves.
It is such a beautiful place to enjoy life
This park is special to me so no
While the water might be fenced the prevent dogs from swimming too far out, the actual beach is not fenced off, so you have to be comfortable with your dog off leash to really enjoy coming here
Very nice place for picnics, and great place to spend time with family and friends.
This park is located in New York, USA. It is famous for visiting the Bitesi breed of dogs, in the US, almost every family keeps the sight of different breed of dogs, and this is why people also bring them missing.
#ResezApprovedPeaceful Environment for People and Pets.
Great place to come with your dog
Great place for dogs and so peaceful😍😍
Usually not too busy!
Wish there were more dog beaches like this!!! Rocks are perfectly placed
Loved it! Will be coming back soon :)
Great place to walkYour doggo
Worst part by far is the people there! 🕺🤙
Great experience on a beautiful day in the park..
No’ota my dog loves this location
Love having a place to take my doggies. Just wish it was fenced in!!!
Water may not be clean. Other dogs may not be friendly. A lot of dog owners dont care
I spend time with my son feeding the ducks 🦆
I didnt take my dog but it was nice to be there.
Nice pond for dogs to swim
Cool place for dogs on ahoy day
Closed for the winter :(
Excellent spot for your beloved dogs
Off leash hours are 9pm to 9am
Byo ball and enjoy
Is the best place
Nice place for a dog to cool off
Many dogs. Very nice
The Best spot for dogs!
Co workers got together at the park house for a bounding ceremony.
A spectacular oasis in the heart of Brooklyn.
Good breakfast and lunch to go
That area is always fun.
Dogs are super happy here
Ok
Fun!
