Lovely park, lovely people, but the off-leash dog people are out of control! I say this as a crazy Dog Mom with a rescue pitbull that I keep on a leash at all times. There’s a great gated dog park (both small and large dog areas), so it sucks that people take over the big lawn area with loose pups. We gotta work on our park manners, y’all! Two playgrounds keep it kid-friendly, an open theater, and a baseball field that’s closed off during winter.Let’s keep it clean and keep it leashed!

Nice park with lots of playground space and places for dogs to roam. Small outdoor gym area and some sport courts for things like handball. About a half mile in perimeter length, so reasonable for walking or jogging around, and its all flat with no hills. City bike accessible with a small station at the northwest corner. Theres also a small amphitheater thats nice for the occasional event.

This park is generally nice. I went here for a vendor opportunity and there were sufficient amount of receptacles, park employees, summer events and generally people just enjoying themselves and minding their business. There was a nice diversity of people. I would not stay at any park late and so, I would recommend the same for this park. The reason I took a star off was because I thought it could be cleaner upon entering there were a pile of garbage bags and unsightly items in the grass.

It was my 1st spot to visit when I walked around Brooklyn with my son. We sat & drank coffee while catching up. The place was full of couples, families, dogs. There was a play area & a wide open field with balls & Frisbees being thrown. I was honestly amazed, because you never see THAT side of Brooklyn, or NY. It was a very nice surprise!

Had a great weekend at the Herbert Von King Park. It is very spacious with lots of areas for picnics and for large gatherings/celebrations of any kind.Separate grassy area to lay out on with your blankets or to do yoga. You can also enjoy local music and dancing. And even though there is an area for small/ large dogs, they dont just stay there, they roam all over with their humans. So if youre allergic or just dont like a lot of dogs, this is not the park for you to visit. The absolute worst part of the entire park are the restrooms. I felt like I was gonna catch a disease by walking in there. Its extremely filthy....the toilets, floors, sinks all beyond disgusting. Thankfully the park is kept up really good despite being very busy all the time.

The atmosphere is way better than it was back in the day. I would say the park needs more lighting and/or brighter lighting throughout the park. Especially in the bathroom area and the playground. Theres some lighting near the bathroom but it needs to be brighter. In the playground there is no lighting at all once night falls, the playground is pitch black. The picnic areas should be cleaned more often.

This park could be so nice but it’s constantly noisy. Feeling really grateful for the staff trying to keep it clean after a herd of careless people trash it every weekend. People grill and drop their ashes everywhere, drive their cars into the park and park them on the lawns with actual trailers. The worst part is the constant noise. Insanely loud and really terrible music starting at 3pm on weekdays. Forget about weekends. How can people play music so loud the kids in the playground are obviously going to have some earring loss from it. Sometimes there are multiple sources of deafening music within a tiny perimeter. This is absurd. I wish someone measured sound volume and enforced reasonable regulations. Your balloons are very cute during your birthdays but less so when you just leave all of your trash on the side of the park. Again, so grateful for the staff courageously managing to clean it up after each storm of BS.First kudos to the amazing staff working hard and taking amazing care of the green spaces while users are not always helping. This park could be amazing if basic safety rules could be enforced more systematically.Dogs are out of control running unleashed in the park as children play nearby and there is a dog park. Dog urine kills trees (two of them will need to be taken down in the dog run already) but dog owners let their dogs urinate on them everywhere. And sure most people pick up after them but who wants to lay in the grass where a dog just pooped?Be respectful. Imagine if more of these gigantic trees die. That would be a disaster for the neighborhood…Everyone playing extremely loud music sometimes literally reaching such high volumes that it is a health hazard. This hasn’t really started this summer but makes the park really unlivable most weekends. This park is a treasure for the neighborhood, the staff do their best. It’s meant to be shared not to be made yours.

Herbert von King Park, is a true gem for both residents and visitors alike. Spanning a generous area, this park offers a plethora of amenities that cater to a wide range of interests and needs.First and foremost, the dog park is a standout feature. Divided into areas for both big and small dogs, it provides a safe and enjoyable environment for our furry friends to run, play, and socialize. Dog owners will appreciate the thoughtful design, allowing them to relax while their pets have a blast. The great lawn is another highlight of Herbert von King Park. Its a perfect spot to lay out a blanket, enjoy a picnic, or simply bask in the sun. The lush greenery and well-maintained grounds create a serene atmosphere that invites relaxation and leisurely strolls. For those looking for more structured activities, the park doesnt disappoint. The basketball court is well-equipped and often bustling with players. Nearby, the jungle gym offers endless fun for children, while the full baseball field caters to sports enthusiasts of all ages.Convenience is also a strong suit of Herbert von King Park. Public bathrooms are clean and accessible, and the grilling areas are perfect for family gatherings or community events. The shaded tables under the trees provide a cool respite on hot days, making them ideal for outdoor meals or reading a good book. However, if you live in the neighborhood, you probably already know all this.

Im lucky to live just a few minutes walk from this park. Its a decent size, tree-filled, with lots of different areas/sections, plenty of benches, and tons of grassy plots for people to lay a blanket out and chill with friends or solo. It gets VERY busy and PACKED on the weekends and late afternoons/evenings, but one would still be able to snag a spot to hang out (unless youre trying to snag a designated BBQ spot, those fill up early). Also on the weekends, there is commonly some type of event going on with loud music (if youre looking for peace and quiet this may not be the time/place for you). Theres a built-in amphitheater there so its perfect for such events. The dog park is on the NE side of the park, and usually, there are dog water bowls by the fountains for your pups (hopefully theyll finish installing the fountains inside the actual dog park soon).

Herbert Von King Park is a cherished urban oasis located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. Established from land acquired in 1857, it is one of Brooklyn’s earliest parks, originally known as Tompkins Park. The park was renamed in 1985 to honor Herbert Von King, a local community leader affectionately dubbed the “mayor of Bedford-Stuyvesant.” Spanning over 7 acres, the park features a baseball field, playgrounds, barbecue areas, and the Herbert Von King Cultural Arts Center, which offers a variety of classes and events. The park’s Almira Kennedy Coursey Amphitheatre is a cultural highlight, hosting performances throughout the year.

Theres a dog park in the North West corner of the park that is pretty great. There are two sections that usually break out into larger dogs that play a bit tougher and smaller dogs that are more chill. Theres no spigot for water but there are water bowls around that you can fill with water you bring. The ground is wood chips and dirt mostly, there are some trees and bushes for dogs to play around as well as ample seating in the form of milk crates, traditional park benches, and chairs carved from stumps of old trees. Around 6:30-7:30 pm the park is pretty busy and rowdy but early mornings on weekends like 7:00am its usually more of a smaller chiller crowd. The rest of the park is lovely too

Basic community park with a jungle gym, amphitheater, handball court, basketball court, and dog run. The park is popular and hosts a lot of events- from yoga and health fairs, to small performances. Some people throw birthday parties in the park. A lot of millennials sun bathe. However, I think this community could use a larger park. The large number of people who use this park makes it hard to sustain a lush carpet of grass. (For that reason, they really put a big effort into reseeding it this year.) But now that I think of it- maintaining the grass is hard in ALL of NYCs parks, so perhaps Im being too picky.

Nice park with a few amenities.Toddler playground.Childrens playground.Small field where people toss frisbees or play soccer. Handball courts. Chess tables. A small bandshell stage. A dog run as well. The basketball court is only a half court. When the weather warms up you will see many area residences bbq and hold birthday parties there.

TheThe park itself is cool; very basic. The people approx. 15yrs+ who frequent this park will be your possible problem. Weed smoking and open alcohol containers are prevalent here mid-late afternoon during afterschool hours. Early morning hours before the HOOD wakes up is your best bet here. Although spitting distance from a P.O precinct theres no obvious care to respect others, monitor your unruly/disrespectful children or be a responsible parent. Where parks are places to experience nature, engage in environmental aesthetics and build community, Von King is in purgatory. The amphitheater is in dire need of structural attention. The main lawn needs to be manicured. Lived in Bed-Stuy as a home owner for over 7yrs and am always conflicted when I think of taking my 7 and 9yr old.

Beautiful park in the heart of Bed-Stuy. Once inside you forget that you are surrounded by a dirty neighbourhood. There is a reasonable running path that you can take that will allow you to get your exercise on, and as a bonus it is typically deserted.Lets talk about when it snows, it is absolutely breathtaking! When it rains it is like you are in a in a dick tracy comic strip.

What Im puzzles with is when DJ. Brucee Bruce had the R&B Jams in the park... They complaining about double parked cars. Ok .. But the traffic and police could have done a better job... On both sides of the park... Move your car... Traffic agents giving out tickets violations.... I believe the message would have been clear .... Just saying.... parking violations stops even the best talkers...Move ....Mmmm
