Update: we ended up adopting a second cat from Sean Casey! Just like the first time, it was such an easy process and we felt like we weren’t rushed and was able to play and pet our new cat before applying for him. As always, the staff is very friendly and supportive. We love Sean Casey!! Now we have 2 beautiful amazing cats who we love so much.We came in a few weeks ago looking to adopt a cat and the staff was very friendly and attentive to our questions. We ended up adopting that same day. It was a relief knowing he was checked out by a vet prior to adoption and that we had a free vet exam. We couldn’t be more in love with our newest family member!
We adopted a dog from Sean Casey last year. Amazing experience Amazing dog. He is part of our family and we love him very much
Easy and quick application and adoption process. I was able to meet dogs and walk them before deciding if it felt like a good fit. I was able adopt my dog within the same day! They were able to recommend supplies to me as a first time dog owner and provided me with a number of resources for vets, dog trainers, etc. In addition, you get a free vet check up within 30 days from a choice of local animal hospitals in the area. Make sure you have your references ready, they will call. Welcome home, Bailey!!
I used to walk the dogs in 2021 and I had a blast with the little ones. I moved further away from the rescue so I stop visiting. I’m back to walk the dogs again today and I appreciate the staff offered me to walk more than one dog today. He is by himself handling all the walking requests and make things happen. I walked the little girl today. Her name is Star and she’s so playful and adorable. I’m sure she will find her forever parents soon. ❤️
If i could give zero stars i would. I went for the first time to Sean Casey to drop off pet donations. My beloved dog passed away after 16 years. I saw a truck FULL of goodies and foods parked ! I walked into the place and was about to VOMIT. The place stinks. Its disgusting. How can donors give money to such a poorly run place? That place needs to be disinfected. God knows what diseases those pets get from the filth there. Honestly, i couldnt even stand there for 1 mins. This place should be SHUT DOWN immediately! They wouldnt even show me their dog kennels! Please call animal humane society and the city demanding this place to be inspected. These poor pets that dont have a home to go to deserve a better treatment than this !Please stop posting your adoption stories and post the reality.December 2024.
I used to volunteer here pretty much every weekend when I was younger, I’m busier as an adult but still come to walk dogs whenever I have the time. The animals are very well taken care of here from what I’ve seen! Sometimes I see very malnourished and shy dogs that just recently arrived at the shelter who were clearly rescued from horrible situations. It hurts my heart knowing what people have done to such defenseless animals, but knowing there are people who fight for their safety and work hard to rehabilitate them gives me hope for humanity. I’ve seen some comments calling workers rude and I just want to point out that they often seem pretty overworked to me, it’s a non-profit so I doubt anyone is working there for the amazing pay, they work there because they want to help animals so please cut them some slack if they’re too tired to give you perfect customer service
Im seeing mixed reviews of this place. Ive dog walked for them on several occasions, but havent gone through the adoption process. When you ask to dog walk, the staff that you interact with are mediocre at best. Very aloof and their oddness comes off as rude. Its usually the same handful of men that deal with the dog walking. They arent welcoming, they dont say hi to you, and they arent helpful in any way (Ive met just one guy who was helpful). They seem like theyre just there because... I honestly dont know why. There is zero passion coming from them. When I or other people have asked them questions, youre usually hit with this dead response: It depends. I feel like Im talking to a less-helpful chat bot in human version. You also arent allowed to go inside to see the dogs which leads to suspicion. I wonder why youre not...
Fantastic place to adopt the pet you always wanted. We adopted a full bred golden retriever puppy from Sean about 12 years ago and after he passed a few months ago we went back to Sean and was able to adopt a Siberian husky - Boxer mix puppy with baby blue eyes. Sean and his staff makes sure anyone that wants to adopt a pet is taken care of.
You need to know that the Bideawee Home is selling dogs and cats to laboratories for research. They have an event which is called clear the shelters. Whatever dogs arent adopted are sold for profit to science. You will find if you volunteer there that ALL the dogs will be miraculously gone at times, which is not humanely possible.Adoptions take time and consideration. They are not an impulse item.Wont you instead please come and help this man who is not seeking financial gain? You can just present your ID and they will hold it and then you get a dog and some people walk a few dogs and the neighborhood is family safe with nannies and multicultural with all religions.
I brought in a total and the staff there Were very nice They have lots of different kind of animals and they even told me that in 2 weeks when the weather gets warm, they will be putting the total in the pond in the backyard and I would be able to come and see her. I will definitely be donating to this place. They definitely deserve it. Thank god for places like this
Im incredibly saddened and disheartened by my experience with a staff member here today when I went to volunteer for dog walking. I sincerely hope the staff here can do something to correct the issue, as Id like to come back and volunteer for dog walking again.I went to walk a dog today with my friends, having gone here yesterday and walked Hamster. A lady yesterday was the staff and she was really nice. I was really excited today but when we got to the front the staff member, a thin, short, and black haired male with a beard, who handled us was incredibly rude and discriminatory. We asked to walk a big dog as I had walked one before this time and they gave us a small dog, walking away without saying their name. My friend had to ask as he was walking away to get the name of the dog, whom we were told is named Hokey. Strangely, the people behind us in line got Priya, a large dog, when they asked for one. When we took her back after a short walk due to signs of Hokey not wanting to be walked, the same staff member told us that shes always like this and that there were no more dogs available currently but we could wait 45 minutes for another. When we came back after 45 minutes, he told us all of my dogs are out, but right after us in line two volunteers got dogs to be walked and we saw there were many more dogs in the cages, some barking. So I am unsure why we were not able to walk another dog, and why we were handled curtly when we saw people in front of us and behind us that were treated more politely and when he told them their names willingly.Looking through the reviews, there is another person who experienced the same issue around 4 weeks ago. Please fix this issue Sean Casey, I truly adored walking the dogs and am incredibly disappointed by this offputting experience.
For someone like myself who would be late to their own funeral, this volunteer job is ideal. If you dont like the rigmarole of applications, screenings, exorbitant t-shirt fees, orientations and internet portals then come here. Present your ID which they hold on to and then they give you a dog. I usually try to walk three. The shelter is in a beautiful neighborhood with all races and religions and lovely brownstones. Its a real hootenanny on the weekends what groups of families coming to help the pups. Its important because its not good for them to be kept in cages all day.
I adopted my dog Sammy (was Jinxer) from Sean Casey Animal Rescue in 2010. 13 years later, we are still going strong. So thankful for this place! From basement dog to top dog, this Sammy stole my heart.
Visited a dog for 5 weeks straight; walked her multiple times a week. Absolutely fell in love with this creature. My wife and I tried to do everything we could to adopt her; was told she had kennel cough and wasn’t being listed until Sean Casey’s vet approved her and deemed her medically cleared of the cough. After over 5 WEEKS of calling Sean Casey (to not a single response or call back), emails (no response), and visiting their management office (to which they kept telling us all we could do is refresh the website for her listing; a wildly flawed first come first serve system)…after all this, they ended up giving her to the very vet that inspected her, when all was said and done. It was heartbreaking. We not only refreshed their website every hour for a month and half, but we changed travel weeks of travel plans to make sure we could be first to apply to her when she was listed. My wife and I are still speechless that this is how Sean Casey runs things. When I finally got through to a manager to get an answer about the situation, I was met with patronization and complete apathy—zero understanding that by letting people walk their dogs every single day, relationships are formed. If they’re going to gatekeep their animals’ availability for weeks with zero communication, the least they can do is play by the incredibly stric application rules that they themselves design + people abide by to make sure they can be the first to apply for the animals they fall in love with.I really want to support them and all that they do; I understand what they do and this service is not easy and very complicated (hence 2 stars vs. 1). But misleading passionate, committed people that fall in love with their animals, while ostensibly “insider trading” their dogs (with zero communication in between), is just plain wrong. Do better.
I love this place. It offers you an opportunity to volunteer and walk dogs, you can pet the kitties and visit with an array of birds and reptiles. I went here with no intentions on buying or adopting and I came home with a 🐱 kitten lol 😂. His name was Larry and he was the cutest little guy, not knowing he was pre tending lol (he’s very spunky and cute ) now I have renamed him ziri he comes with his shots a micro chip paper work and free docs visits as well. I spent $400 - $250 for adopting the rest were accessories and carrying case. The staff were kind and friendly. All of my friends go here and my neighbors it’s truly a gem in our community and when you rescue one you make space for another as this is a no kill shelter. Here’s an updated on baby as of January 23 ! I wanted to do a year update on my adopted baby formerly known as Larry renamed tiziri a year later and he’s doing just fine in oct 23
This place is absolutely amazing. I got my first car here, sadly we had to put her down but the staff are amazing and take great care of the animals and her while we were sorting out the vets (Also I know I already sort of mentioned this but the staff are some of the most care giving and dedicated people Ive ever met, If your considering adopting a new family member I 100% recommend this place
The best place to adopt! My sister, niece & I came a few weeks ago & adopted baby Phoebe🖤 The process was so smooth & the staff was super helpful. Valerie was outstanding & truly loves her job. Overall, it was an amazing experience. Please do check them out if youre considering to adopt ♥️
When you adopt an animal from this shelter, be prepared for the following:The adoption fee + mandatory package will cost you $1,000.The breed of dog they list may be very different from the DNA test, and this may be a big surpriseBe prepared for high medical costs, pneumonia, tapeworm, giardia parasite, etc.Parasites are easily transmitted to humans from animals, so be prepared for additional tests and medical costs
Visited this place and oh my god.. they should be shut down IMMEDIATELY. i saw one of the employees vaping and they were SO aggressive with the dogs that were given to the volunteers. i took a quick look inside and the cages look hella small for these animals. these 1 star reviews are so right about this place and no one should be supporting this horrible place. the staffs there have a really annoying attitude and watch everything you do once you borrow a dog to walk. im telling you, NEVER VISIT HERE.
I adopted my cat from Sean Casey Animal Shelter on Friday July 20th. There were up to eight kittens in a cage and sick kittens/cats were kept in a cage like two feet away all of the kittens were visibly dirty some sleeping in feces. I was informed the kittens were all exposed to upper respiratory infection and to monitor for symptoms. I had to sign a document attesting to this and did not receive a copy of said document. Within a week of adoption my kitten (2 months old) has been diagnosed with pneumonia, and a collapsed lung and I have spent literal thousands on emergency care. As many know, feline pneumonia has an extremely high mortality rate. With all this being said, the fact that isolation of sick felines was not done is guaranteed to cause other kittens lives. It also seems very likely that this is a regular practice. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I hope my kitten will survive this. I know others who were there will not. I understand spaces are small in NYC but better protocols need to be established.
Anyone looking for a beautiful loving dog please look no further:Mickey is a beautiful 3 month old Belgian Malinois who’s smart, sweet & charismatic with a big loving heart. He’s amazing around kids and doesn’t bark. Already potty trained and listens to commands from “come on boy, his name, to sit, both terms of good boy & bad boy. P.S he loves belly rubs. The only reason I gave him away is because unfortunately I couldn’t afford to have him. Please help me find the home he truly deserves. Thank you in advance!Very appreciative to the shelter for taking him in and making the process as easy as possible 🙏
We recently just got her a day after Christmas. She loves to play, cuddle....and become a night owl every night 😂 she has the biggest personality keeping us entertained. We love seeing her happy. Our other cat Tubby, the fluffy one is still getting used to her being around the house, but he’s definitely starting to warm up to her. Getting her from Sean Casey Animal rescue was a good experience. They were very helpful, and make sure their pets go to good homes.Thank you again for letting us give Autumn an amazing home with us and our other cat Tubbya new friend.☺️
Just over 3 years ago I went to visit Sean Casey and maybe meet a pup to bring home. My life changed that day after meeting and walking with the best good girl, haha. Ruth came home with me that day and honestly Ive never been happier. Everyone at SC was positive, knowledgeable, happy, and supportive. I can’t thank them enough.
Adopted our kitten a little over a month ago and she is perfect. It was quick and easy to adopt her. The place is clean and the people are friendly. My kitty is healthy and happy and i couldnt have asked for a better one.
5 months ago we adopted a wonderful Cane Corso mix. Sean thoroughly explained the way this girl would blossom. He spent a lot of time making sure we were ready for a large breed. They care that the pets go to good homes. Many people in the neighborhood visit so they can help walk the dogs, its a neighborhood gem! ... and you know youre in the right place when youre there.
Sean Casey Animal Rescue is the best place to adopt Dogs, Cats, etc. Their staff helped me adopt a new family member today called Rocket 🚀. we recently just lost our dog called chocoroll exactly a month ago and it took a toll on our family because we loved him dearly and he was our first dog ever. Now that we have Rocket I know we will give him a home full of endless love and take care of him health wise 🙂 thank you for everything once again, I’m forever grateful. He’s currently sleeping as I write this. Also to the nice lady behind the counter who told me to do research on Jack Russell Terriers two days prior, I promise I did!
My mom passed suddenly and Sean Casey lovingly took in both Domino and Smokey!!They were patient and kind with me cause I was a bawling mess!! This place has some amazing pets and they chipped the cats immediately after receiving their medical records 😀Not only do I implore you to adopt from them but please do it with vigor as I know I will forever be grateful for how amazing they were with me so I know theyll only match you up with nothing less then the absolute perfect pet!!On another note if you know anyone looking for cats please suggest my moms as they are brothers and I would love if they could go home together- they are so loving and give tons of kisses!!Thanks Sean CaseyAnd thanks to the families running over there right now!! 😎
I volunteered my photography services for this shelter so they can be adopted. I can tell that the animals are treated with absolute respect and clean cages. hey take them on walks often, keep cages clean, but its too bad the cages cant be bigger ! I love this rescue and all the people who volunteer and work there!
In April 2023, I adopted my little Monte. He is a wonderful and adorable dog. Thank you guys for my boy and for saving many precious lives.
Is there a unlimited star option??? Beyond love this place❤️❤️❤️ started off by making a few donations after my dog passed, then one summer day we came to drop off some things and someone asked if we wanted to walk some of the dogs my mom and I had no idea we could do that and we’re beyond thrilled and immediately said yes. We fell in love and all summer long we came to walk them any chance we could. We then adopted 2 guinea pigs from them. The more we came the more we got to know them and the dogs. I couldn’t help but use my photography skills to capture such true beauty from all these cuties at the shelter! Loving coming her and love spending time with all the dogs! Here are some pics I’ve taken😊
I’ve volunteered at animal shelters for over 7 years in NYC and nowhere does more and is more straightforward than SCAR.Good dogs come here from the south or brought by the cops, sometimes scared, sometimes sweet and they always go home. Tortoises dwell in the yard. Birds and cats glaring at each other in the pet store.Unlike other programs like Bideawee or Animal Haven (both great), there is no structured plan here for volunteering. Just a patch work of giving your ID, writing your name on a list and experiencing walking a dog in a safe family neighborhood and maybe going home with a friend. The staff is real Brooklyn and doesn’t always time for everyone who comes up; the animals are the priority for their labor. But the heart of this place is magic, the experience of humans bonding with animals without a lot of money or procedure getting in the way.A great way to spend a day with a family, a partner or by your lonesome.
Amazing organization helping any kind of animal!! Coming to walk the dogs is always fun and registration is easy. Thank you Sean and team!
They seem to be the nicest people!! We lost our dog and brought a lot of donations to them. They were thankful and I’m positive it will get used to help all the animals there! Can’t wait to go and help out as well
Adopted our cat Sissy from here a few weeks ago, and had a very pleasant experience. Originally we planned to foster, and the staff at Sean Casey made that process very simple. Afterwards when we decided to adopt her, the staff was very happy to help (and very happy for her!) I would definitely adopt from here again in the future when the time is right!
Hooked us up with a trainer. Found me my best friend. Thanks SCAR. A dog is a huge sacrifice of time and energy but is worth it! The mission of a no-kill shelter is to find safe homes for pets. So making people happy is a distant second priority. If you want a dog get there before someone else does. Some are adopted the day they arrive. Others stay there for Months. Take a pup who needs you. Thats what non-profit shelters are about.
We adopted our kitty from there three weekends ago. Shawn was very helpful, very knowledgeable, and we are so thankful for our new car baby! He has lots of a great advice about transition car from shelter to home. Great advice on food choices. We will be back!!
They take good care of animals here. Had an awesome time volunteering. Please spread the word and get people to adopt from here instead of buying new pets.
I had to relinquish my beloved (handicapped) bird due to an unfortunate living situation. They were able to take him and said they would take care of him. Leaving him was like leaving my heart behind. I had him for 22 of his 26 years. I cant get an update on him, but I hope that he is well and being loved. I am grateful for having a place to bring him where the people are caring and willing to help those at the worst time of their lives.
My boyfriend and I came here yesterday to look and walk some dogs. This place is amazing as they give you a maximum of 45 mins to walk/ spend time with the dogs and we ended up falling in love with (Kirk)- renamed Max that now has a forever home! The process to adopt was easy and they provide a free vet visit within the 30 days of adoption with a ton of information on how to care for our dog! Thank you Sean Casey animal rescue for our newest addition to our family!!
I adopted my beautiful Jill from this animal rescue back in 2020. Today after 4 years I can say that adopting her was the best decision. I’m so lucky to come home everyday and know that she is waiting for me.
We got our beautiful Marceline from here a few weeks ago. The staff was so great and informative. I can’t recommend them enough.
I adopted my puppy violet from Sean Casey and I just want to say this was the most easiest way to adopt a dog and they didn’t only help with pairing my family up with our forever 4 paw friend they guided us thru the whole process of picking out a dog that fit right with my family, they helped us with her diet, with crate training, they helped us with getting her situated in our home, helping pick the perfect collar and leash. Staff there are extremely sweet and caring and you can see the love for the animals in there eyes. Sean Casey in my opinion is on of the most affordable shelters as well. I will forever be thankful for everyone in Sean Casey animal rescue
Thank you for everything! We adopted Suni earlier today and she’s already bringing so much joy to our lives.
Fantastic staff. They are best in person. Email and social media response is a little slow. Their priority is the animals so dont get disheartened that their response time is slow. If interested in helping them, fostering is the best option and then dog walking any time while they are open. Consider fostering this animals they need your love. This is not a place to window shop puppies. Photo is of my foster dog, Snow.
Love this place! This staff is excellent! They are informative and very honest people who truly want the best for the animals they take in. I got to meet and hold my new little fur baby with the assistance and guidance of a lovely woman who showed me how to properly handle my newly spayed kitten.
They are amazing! We got our girl there, and we used to just go on a nice day and take some puppies out for a walk. They let you walk dogs! They are a non-killing shelter and treat their babies well!
We loved Sean Casey, it really is a special place where they try to rescue all animals and set up forever homes, in all honesty the workers run around nonstop taking care of customers especially on their busiest days. Only negatives were the process took extra long (wife actually got her shoulders sunburnt while waiting for over three hours), no shade around the area unfortunately. Also I didn’t like that you had to buy everything for the pet right there or prove you had it already, since I do like to support my local pet store pet delight, but it wasn’t that bad since all proceeds went to benefit shelter anyways. Other then that it was a pleasure working with them and adopting dexter from them!
They’re very helpful. They helped us foster a cat we found in our backyard and then found him a home. Would recommend to anyone
I love donating to this place I love them for taking care of the cats and dogs, they are all kind and caring ❤️
This place used to be amazing. As of now, this is a terrible shelter they make it impossible for you to adopt a dog. They have ridiculous, adoption fees for some beat up abused dogs. I suggest you use craigslist. I found an amazing dog with a very low adoption fee. And all vaccines were included. Avoid these shelters. They don’t care about these animals. They only care about money. Pure evil. They should be investigated.
Love walking the dogs here in the afternoon from time to time, theyre all very loveable and friendly. Workers there too are informative and friendly. Stop by sometime to walk and maybe adopt a loving friend!
They never answer the phone once they know you have an injured cat with kittens been trying to call for 10 years and never no help they made me realize only God could help no one else
I adopted my beautiful sweet tuxedo cat Gia from Sean Casey years ago and they were all so nice and helpful and Gia is such a sweetheart, we love her more than words can say! Sean is a true hero and its so wonderful what he does for animals!
I found a turtle by the beach that isnt a sea turtle so I took her home and the next day I found this place and they took her!God bless this place and all the people working here! They have cats and dogs for adoption. 😍🥰
They made bringing home our new addition an easy process. Honest kind group of people working there. Was worth the drive from CT. Our baby shows signs of being loved and cared for..the amount of people that stopped to walk the dogs or just cuddle the pups all had nothing but great things to say about this rescue..now I can also add my 5star rating.
My boyfriend and I came here JUST to look. This place allows you to spend about 45 mins with a dog that’s available. We walked two and fell in love with Django. The process was so quick. He was such a sweet pea at the rescue and still is. I think a lot has to do with the volunteers too who spend time with the dogs because Django is well trained and it has very little to do with us as his owners. Of course, there are things he can still benefit from! The process was quick and easy. They do same day adoptions and just call up a few references. They can also supply everything you need (at extra costs) and give you references for free vet visits (within a month of adoption) + discounted training businesses. They have cats (mix of young and adult), dogs, lizards and birds (believe I saw parakeets and parrot).Definitely check this place out if you’re looking to foster or adopt!
We took Honey for a walk; she was sweet despite her sharp teeth 🐶
I was looking for a shelter/center that could have guinea pigs up for adoption. I tried contacting their number MULTIPLE times every 15 minutes, but I was always lead to an automated message telling me that they were busy helping other callers and that I should leave a message for them to get back to me. I wanted to figure out if they had guinea pigs up for adoption before I headed there from Staten Island. I assumed they were indeed busy so I took my day to travel all the way here. Turns out, they didn’t have guinea pigs, and the two workers there were NOT busy at all. They were both leaned back against their chair and on their cellphones and I was the only one there. Yet, they somehow couldn’t pick up any of my calls. Had they picked up their phone, I wouldn’t have spent money and time getting there. There was also a guy guarding one of their doors eyeing me the whole time before I went in which was kind of sketchy as well.
I cannot express in words how strongly positive I feel about this shelter. They are extremely kind and organized. They have animals of all sorts from dogs to Guinea pigs and even if you cannot adopt a dog right now you can foster or even just walk a dog waiting for his or her forever home.
Sean Caseys Animal Rescue is amazing. They allow you to visit and walk the dogs. I met Maxx there and instantly fell in love. I adopted him and couldnt be happier with him. Thank you Sean Casey team!
I adopted my 2 sister kittens here. They do amazing work in the rescuing and rehoming of pets.
I adopted a hamster from here, and he is the sweetest baby. So grateful and glad I got from here, they really care about the animals! Picture of my baby, Frodo :)
We adopted our puppy from there, and they were very honest about dog rearing and extremely supportive.
Saw a review about someone taking their turtle here a week ago, and they took the turtle. I went there yesterday, and they stated that their pond wasnt up and running, so they denied accepting my surrendered turtle. I was so disappointed because I literally called them over 20 times before I drove all the way out there, which took an hour and a half to do just to waste gas. They didnt ever pick up the phone. I was so upset and wanted to do the right thing. Not reliable at all. If they only picked up their phone, told me that on the phone, I wouldnt have to cause my turtle stress for the long drive, waste my time and gas. Wouldnt recommend this place!
My family has taken many pets over many years here for medicine, help, and supplies. They have a very nice and compassionate staff. Ive gotten 2 dogs here and kept them happy and healthy throughout both of their lives so far, and got lots of crucial supplies for my cat here. Highly recommend!
Through my eyes as a dog walking volunteer, I think they are doing great jobs at the tough circumstance as an animal rescue. I see all the staffs care about their dogs and their dogs are nothing but sweet as a result.I noticed some negative comments about this organization here, but these people should realize that this organization does as best as it could with limited funds. Without its continuous endeavor, all these wonderful animals could be euphanized.
Nice place to adopt a new family member, I just adopted a beautiful cat, their volunteers were patient and explained to me all I need to know.If you are planning to adopt here or even if you dont but live by the area I would advise to buy products from their store also, that will help them to keep doing the great job they do with the animals.
I adopted a kitten from them and his name is Smokey! ! When we went into the store there was a lady who was very nice, she didnt discriminate, she would do her best to help me, I filled out the form, paid the adoption fee and took my cat home and its now Very happy because it knows it has a home!!
I’m a new owner my beautiful cat, have problem help by medication . Try to call , nobody call back . I worry my cat’s eye problem ( from shelter!) please give me a callUpdate: they calling me🙏)
I received my handsome pup from this rescue shelter! They made the process so easy!!Thank you to the Sean Casey team for introducing this gem to my life.
The staff were knowledgeable and very nice. The place is children friendly. We adopted our cat from this place. Highly recommend for those interested in having a pet to add to your family.
08/18/2023They love it but Mr bacon did not fit at allLove you guys so much thank you
We had a solid experience with Sean Casey. Really sweet people working here, loving on the animals. We’d wanted to adopt a rescue dog for a while, and found the option of getting to know him through walks before commuting was really helpful. I love that anyone can go here and walk a dog, just by learning their ID and following some basic rules. Highly recommend a visit!
Volunteering to walk the doggies has been the best 🥰 all of them have their own personality and it’s fun getting to know them either by yourself or with someone. Just bring your ID and wait to sign in (which can take about 30 mins) depending on what time of day you come
They were extremely rude on the phone. Couldn’t get past that part to even have a conversation with what I wanted.
Couple of days ago my husband showed up to our house with a dog Dion. Though I admire that you’re a non kill shelter, Interviews and Home Screenings should be done to ascertain that there won’t be any disagreements between spouses. Thought I love animals in general; My health is compromised and I can’t be part of his care. I am also still exhausted from caring for our previous sick dog that lived to be almost 18 and my husband refused to let go and do the right thing. I was heartbroken to see his long term suffering despite all the TLC I gave him; thankfully, one day A year ago, I had the courage to take him to the vet while my husband was sleeping.
Adopted my dog Lucy from here, they made the process quick and easy and they answered all of my questions 💜
I have been recommending this shelter to everyone one who needed a place to adopt for years. My parents and my son used to walk dogs there every week. They are very nice with the animals and we have gotten cats from them before as well. Now about the 3 stars. I called the shelter to surrender 4 cats out of the 8 that I have. The owner asked me to watch them for a time of travel. He never took them back. I am keeping the other 4 because 2 are very old and 2 are sick. Basically unadoptable so I am trying to do some legwork to find them a home. I live in a small apartment with no yard and my 2 children. My 3 yr old of was just diagnosed with asthma. I have to downsize to prevent my 3 yr old from life threatening attacks as the allergens and triggers are too abundant to manage. My other option is to put all 8 in a room forever which is cruel. Anyway, I called and was asked why I needed to surrender 4 cats. I explained the 8 cat small apartment and baby with asthma situation. I also explained that food and litter would be provided via chewy in perpetuity to the new owners. I was told that space is limited and to open the windows and keep the cats outta my sons room I already do that! I constantly clean and air out my house and I never ever allow cats in the bedroom. With 8 of them it doesnt matter! And my son doesnt live in his bedroom, he has to leave said bedroom and be home all day. This gentleman isnt a doctor and had some nerve to tell me to just open the windows. He gave no alternative shelters until I cut him off on his rediuculosly obvious and dangerous advice to ask for more shelter options. I love animals, sometimes more than people. Which is why I am willing to keep a manageable ammout of them and purchase a medical grade $800 air purifier to aid in that management. BUT to put my child at risk of suffering more attacks and needing more meds and management so I can keep a mini zoo isnt an option. Long story short dont give dissmissive unprofessional medical advice. Especially in such a litigious society. How about just say Im sorry but we dont have space but I can give u alternative shelters that may be acceptable
We love this place. They let people hungry for dog love walk dogs even if they can’t adopt. They obviously love and care for the animals (not just dogs) they rescue. They were very supportive when we adopted our new dog. They are the place to go for adoption.
Honor and respect for the people who work there. The store is clean and odor free. All cats are very cute and healthy. If you need a cat, then there are different colors and different ages. I took care of my cat here. There are also dogs here. I love dogs, but they dont let me. Thats why I go for walks with them. Thank you for being.
I dont know how I am involved in this but any rescue cat or animal is five stars to me.
We love dog walking on occassion but cam home with these 2 beauties.
This is a very caring animal shelter. We adopted 2 sisters kittens in 2018, and were so grateful for our 2 furballs. I wish I could adopt all of the animals in the shelter. Please adopt, dont shop. And please donate when you can.
Staff are incredibly rude. Love the idea of the shelter and dog-walking program, but they all seem extremely bothered when asked if you can walk a dog (their attitude and faces show “why are you here and why are you bothering me). This is not a one-time occurrence. It seems as if they are doing this for community service sentences. When you are given a dog to walk, you aren’t even told the name or any information about them whatsoever. You cant enter the shelter, but a tiny peek through the door shows dogs in cramped cages. I have been multiple times, but will no longer due to the disrespectful staff. They really need to work on manners and customer service.
When i call to see if they cocktails for adopshion they do not pick up and they say they call back but it has bean like 1 day and a half and they still never pick up
I adopted a Dachshund dog named Cheeno who I renamed Charlie . He was really handsome and quite friendly with people & other dogs at beginning. Not the greatest with kids at 1st . Liked to nip but I thought in time I’d be able to break that habit . Had him for about a week and he was very protective (aggressive towards his toys. When I went to take away from him. He would growl. I figured in time I break that habit as well, but it didn’t, seem to be working. Now I have him for about three weeks and me and my wife were sitting on the couch and he jumped up there at that time. There was a toy right next to me on my right side. When I went to grab the toy, Charlie attacked me, tore up my arm, and tore up my chest. That was the end. I crated him and brought him back in the morning. This problem did not start with me, had to be with the previous owners who had to lie to Sean Casey. they told them he was very friendly good with people and kids. This dog definitely had an aggression problem before we rescued him when I brought him back I explain the issue I asked if I got another dog from them I’d be able to get some sort of a discount since I had this problem they told me no I felt that this was unfair, and they could’ve gave me some sort of a discount if I did by chance rescue another animal . Sean, Casey’s rescue happens to be very overcrowded and where they keep the animals happens to be quite dirty I myself would not recommend this place and I gave Sean Casey one star. I wish I can give them no stars. I went around to other rescue places in other boroughs in New Jersey and every other one was spotless clean Sean Casey is actually the most dirty rescue center. I’ve ever seen. Do not go there your animal probably end up getting sick.
Very professional, they check to make sure you’re a good fit and they also give very good advice on what to get and how to care for the animals. Love the kitty that I got from them.
I have been reading reviews and think this is a great place. I adopted my cat Diamond when she was four months old back in August 2021, it’s been nine months and has been great. Unfortunately our lease for our current apartment will end in July and most of the new apartments we have found have a no pet policy. It is heartbreaking to think of but we have decided to find her a new home. She is spayed and neutered and her medical records can be provided. Can I drop her off? What are the steps to bring her in? I’m open to communicate with someone who is interested in adopting her for free. She is very friendly and playful. She loves tummy rubs and watching cat videos, she is also very good with children.
The kittens i was looking at had not been seen by the vet as yet so i came out of there empty handed. But seeing the kids get the dogs and walking them to establish a relationship with them was cool. Almost made me want to get a puppy.
Adopted my whole heart here just about three years ago. Sean Casey Animal Rescue is doing a lot with a little. Theyre wonderful - support them and other animal rescues
I came here to volunteer for dog walking and didn’t have the best experience. First of all, almost all the staffs don’t have their masks on completely or safely worn (nose isn’t covered). Also it took a while for them to bring a dog for me to walk because they would talk to each other instead. This one staff, I don’t know his name, is super friendly and assisted me very quickly. However, I cannot say the same for the other staffs that I worked with other times I came. I still had a fun time with the dog I walked though. I also adopted my dog from here back in 2017 and had a way better experience with the staff. I’m sure this shelter has a great owner (Sean was very nice) and a good intention, just some of the staff needs to be more professional.
My family and I adopted a kitten from here, she got FPV and sadly passed. We went back to talk to them about getting another cat, i took a stroll around and noticed a few cats were displaying the same symptoms of my cat. One kitten was vomiting and looked very lethargic, i told the staff and they completely ignored me. Please don’t put yourself through the pain of creating a bond with a loving animal, then having it ripped away through the negligence of the staff that’s supposed to be caring for these little guys
I went to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue a little over a week ago to find a companion for a parakeet I recently inherited as they tend to get depressed if left alone. The staff was very friendly and, importantly, very knowledgeable in helping select the new bird. Just over a week later, the birds are getting along famously and even groom each other. They have become quite connected to each other. Thanks again to the staff and congratulations on doing such compassionate and wonderful work.
Mom and I were looking for a male cat but we adopted Olivia aka Monkey. Shes very affectionate and sweet.Anna and Mark were very helpful in the adoption process.
It was great! We adopted two beautiful bunnies. Jennifer was very helpful and knowledgeable. We were lucky to have had such a wonderful and caring person to walk us through the whole adoption. This place cares about finding the right home for all of their animal friends. Would definitely recommend to people looking to adopt.
I called twice and left a message but no answer or call back. I went today to get info on steps for taking in a stray cat and if they had space. They unfortunately didnt which is understandable. However, I want to point out that the staff was MISERABLE and getting any answer was like pulling teeth. I had additional questions but didnt even wanna bother asking cause it look like the guy behind the desk would rather give up his organs before responding to me.
We just adopted two kittens last night from Sean Casey. Even though it was very close to their closing time, they let us apply for Mushroom(boy) & Carol(girl) - both three month old and we were so so so happy to come back home with our new babies! We re-named them Hanabi & Honey Bee. We couldnt sleep at all because we were too excited with our kittens. They ate well, knew how to use the litter box and played with us. They are perfect!!!!!
As a no kill shelter i know i can trust them and trust the pets there would find a home quickly. I have donated to them a couple of times and will continue to do so in the future. I have dropped off a poor stray kitten the other day that i found on the street, sadly because im booked with pets in my house and my family’s and friends houses i had no place to take her in. I knew about sean and casey years ago by seeing a article somewhere about them and them popping up on my social media, from there on i knew this place is trust worthy. When i found the stray the other day and asked around how the surrendering works and where to take her all my friends told me that sean and casey is the best when it comes to taking care of animals and finding a home for them. As soon as i got in to surrender the stray kitten i was greeted with a very kind woman who truly fell in love with the stray, she asked me to fill out some information about me and the stray and violah now i know the stray is in safe hands. I feel like i have done a great deed in my life and i felt proud about it, and i can sleep well at night knowing that the stray is going to be well taken care of, and she would find a new home quickly. God bless you for the work that you do!!
Lots of stupid questions. After reading and answering all of them easy to change mind from willingness to adopt an animal from them. Terrible experience.Just closed the website and started searching between friends and family. Found, so cute kitten 😸 😍 and no headache.
Awesome organization and team. Would definitely recommend. Was looking for the right rescue dog for 2+ months. Met the perfect companion at SCAR and they were awesome about getting me set up. The application process was thorough but manageable, and they helped me pick all the accessories and food. At the end of the experience, they even called a dog-friendly car service that accepted credit card payments to get me and all the supplies home.Check this crew out. You won’t regret it.
Adopted our doggie from here and could not more highly recommend it for adopting and for getting pets supplies! They are so friendly and willing to help!
We adopted our sweet baby from this shelter. Thank you all workers, volunteers, you do great things
I got my Chester from here and we love him . He’s the best ❤️ the only reason for a 4 star is bc an extra $350 for accessories was a tad much 😬 bc they make you buy it when you adopt a puppy . Be ready to spend but rescue . I love my puppy so much. And also he was sick and had to spend an extra $150 …. He was really expensive
Once again, Sean Casey came to the rescue by accepting six kittens on 90 + degree day. I was greeted by a friendly, young person and explained to the volunteer behind the counter that momma cat was no where to be found. Then, another volunteer opened the carrying case and checked the sweet kitties. I am forever grateful for this rescue and the amazing volunteers. They are such beautiful people. Thank you. (New review)Sean Casey Rescue really helped me because I found a kitten without a mama. Unfortunately, I could not take kitty, but the lady at the rescue made a call to confirm a foster was available for kitty. There was a foster available for her and I am truly grateful for their help. (Previous review)
We are volunteering to walk dogs. They assistants are kind and helpful, they have great knowledge of the dogs. The dogs are clean and they are really cared for. My young child loves to go there and help out.
Wonderful animal rescue. Can volunteer to walk dogs here.
I adopted my Chihuahua Coco from Sean Casey Animal rescue a couple of years ago. She is such a joy, she has the biggest personality and wakes up every morning bouncing out of bed with happiness. Everybody loves her, even strangers get a big kick out her. She’s the best! Thank you Sean Casey for bringing this wonderful dog into my life!❤️
Had my heart set out on a specific kitten I wanted to adopt because out of all the wonderful cats/kitten there, she seemed to bond to me right away. Every single day for 2 weeks I kept going in to check on her. From her health, some playtime and vet visits. While I was told frequently she won’t be ready anytime soon, fine I’ll wait because she’s worth it.Fast forward on the day I was about to park and go in for her, she was gone….given away to someone else. Meanwhile, the workers all here knew how much I wanted her because they asked multiple times and was well aware.I really don’t like to write theses type of reviews because I love animals and what their causes here are. But it really broke my heart. I will give it another try for a different cat/kitten sometime later in the future.
This is the best animal shelter that I have been with to volunteer and help out at. The dogs here are sweet and amazing! ❤️ just make sure you ask the person who gives you a dog that you can handle the dog or if they have behavioral issues or biting. Overall, the staff is hard working, caring, and loves their animals. This is a great place to volunteer to walk dogs, adopt dogs, cats, etc. and to spend your day at. I love volunteering here and I hope to one day adopt a dog here if I get the opportunity to.
I wanted a medium sized dog that can play fetch, but still be medium to low energy. Tall order.I went to Sean Casey probably 6 times and the volunteers were very patient with me.The part I appreciated most was, they were realistic about the temperaments of their dogs. If they knew a dog wouldnt be a good fit they would say so.We ended with a great pit mix and my family loves it!These people are doing the Lords work!
A great place to spend some time with animals. They have a volunteer dog walking program and you can go and take a dog or pup of your choosing to walk them for a maximum of 45min after which you have to return them to the shelter where you then can walk another or if you really liked one in particular you can adopt or possibly foster. They also have exotics like lizards & frogs and other pets available for adoption.
I went early enough in the afternoon that I was able to take my little baby home that day! Sean was very nice and helpful. Apparently my kitten had been there for about a week already and I still cant believe no one snatched him up because he is the best! They also deliver daily! My roommate and I order food/litter about once a month and there is no extra charge. Very convenient! Great rescue.
I adopted a kitten from here a year ago (he is such a joy) and I have been coming back here for all his supplies since I adopted him because I wanted to support a small & local business, who does great work for the community. Unfortunately, I will not be returning here to purchase anything because their staff is RUDE. I walked in today to purchase some items and the blonde woman almost walked right into my 10 year old as we were looking at kittens for adoption. No excuse me, no apology, as if we were not standing there. I will find somewhere else to purchase what I need.
Sean first approach me 20 years ago while I was walking pups on the UES. He gave me a card and asked if my clients adopted often. I said yes but not often enough. Several years later I adopted Apollo and several of my clients had adopted other pets from SCAR. His choice of veterinarians was impeccable and they matched his love and determination to adopt these pets out. Anyway, consider yourself lucky you found this gentleman and his rescue organization. One love
I have known about this wonderful place for several years and its best quality is that they truly care about all the animals. This rescue is clean and caring and they do their very best to assist every animal that is brought in. I have fostered many of their kittens and recently adopted one of them. I am very thankful for their help during this process. God bless this place and the individuals who work and volunteer there.
Sean Casey Animal Rescue has been one of my favorite spots in NYC for many years. Ive walked dogs here before. I loved walking Siberian Huskies. I walked a big male that was vibrant and strong willed. I also walked a more submissive female with a missing tooth.I recently adopted a cat here. She is named Alexa and is very beautiful. I personally prefer dogs but my household at this time cannot support the needs of a dog.Thank you Sean Casey for staying open during these hard times.
Lovely staff I adopted my little hamster that we named fluffy they were very nice considering my two crazy kids were w me lol than we got a starter cage that they had cause we were originally gonna get a cat but we loved him and still do I know he’s getting old too so we’re just so happy w fluffy
Very helpful place, we asked a lot of questions cause we were looking to adopt our first dog to grow with our 2 kids 3,8 yrs so we had a lot of questions. Staff was pretty helpful with some of the questions we had due to our first time experience in adopting. Now as for the owner of the shelter he was extremely helpful with a lot of knowledge of what to do and to expect from out first time adopting. He told us what to do and how to do it which was awesome. Great place to adopt for your first time pet.
We just adopted the sweetest most well behaved cat from Sean Casey Animal Rescue. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions and went over his medical file with us. They clearly care a lot about all the animals. I like that they checked our references on our application, it means all of their animals end up in great homes that have been fully vetted. Their pet supplies are reasonably priced(equal or less than Amazon) and you know the money goes somewhere great. If you want to adopt a pet in Brooklyn this is the place to go. We couldnt have been happier with our experience.
I like this place they tell you the truth about their animals. The good news if you really want and able to actually financially take care of a pet you can. Sean didnt turn me away because Im disabled like another shelter I went to did. I adopted a dog and I got a really good cat from here
Morning time is the busy time. 3-4 pm is kind of their down time. The staff is friendly. The information they provided was helpful. The price of the supplies for the pets are cheaper than the Frenchies stores.Except for the dogs and cats you can adopt, they also have lizards, parrots, and tortoise.
I highly recommend getting the animal checked out asap. I walked one puppy her stitches out after she got spayed. I adopted a puppy he was sick. I called and email there was no response. They force you to buy a crate. I strongly recommend bringing your own crate.
Awesome place to adopt dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, and other small animals. Its actually one of the few places I would actually consider going back to of I ever decide to adopt another dog. Its a actual rescue unlike some other places that claim to be a rescue and only have puppies. On top of that their adoption fee is extremely reasonable compared to other places that charge over $700, and they have all the supplies youll need for your pet on premises. Definitely go check out Sean Caseys animal rescue if you interested in adopting a pet or if you just want to walk one of the dogs that need some love and affection.
I went to this rescue a few days ago to view some of the dogs up for adoption. The staff were helpful and friendly enough but then they asked if I wanted to look at a dog with a “bite history” and when I asked for more detail they told me was a “nippy puppy” and had no incidents since being at the shelter for 3 years. I agreed to walk the dog around the block and at one point his halti lead had slipped off so I went to try and fix it - he barked at me. It frightened me so I backed off, I tried again a few minutes later and received the same bark. At this point I felt incredible uncomfortable and decided to take the dog back as quickly as possible as his other lead was still on. When I brought him back, I told the staff what had happened and they immediately told me to go talk to Sean himself about this dogs behaviour. I spoke to Sean but before I even had a chance to tell him what happened, he informed me the dog that I had walked was an “incredibly dangerous dog with a bite history so severe that one of his bites required reconstructive surgery on someone’s face.” He informed me that the staff should not have let me walk the dog and he was not up for adoption as he had bitten EVERY staff member, all of his dog walkers, and people in all three homes he had previously been placed. Including a certified dog behaviour specialist (the person who required surgery). I was shocked. I have worked with rescues before as a foster and could not believe the irresponsibility of the staff. A mother and child had been in line in front of me and shudder to think of what could have happened if they had been handed the dog. I barely received and apology and they didn’t even take my information for a follow up. I am HIGHLY recommend at a serious reform in this rescue, it is currently operating in such a way that is dangerous for not only the customers, staff, but also the animals.
This place is absolutely amazing- full of incredibly kind and generous souls. Brought a stray kitten with an infected eye found on the streets of Brooklyn. They set us up with medicine, food, and a cage to keep the kitten in for two weeks before taking him back to the shelter for shots and spay/neuter. Absolutely blown away by the generosity and kindness extended to this poor little kitten. Friendly, helpful and informed staff members at every turn. If you are an animal lover, this is a place to show your support to.
Animal shelter from where our sweet dog Lulu came to us 8 years ago. Staffed largely by volunteers. Recently able to upgrade animal quarters. Known throughout Brooklyn. They help with adoption paperwork. Here’s a reason to love them: our wonderful dog Lulu, older now but still happy, before we adopted her, had been returned to Sean Casey twice by prior adopting families. But SC wouldn’t give up on her and we were the next to get her. It’s been many years of love and companionship.
They let you walk the doggies to get to know them better before adoption, I find that great for the doggies and future owners as it’s a win-win from both sides. I believe they’re doing an amazing and beautiful job for this lovely creatures.
Got a kitten from them a month ago. It was a great experience. Such a great rescue!
I wish I knew that they take donations for pets. Purchased special cat food and carry bag. They have pets for purchase and adoption.
Having Sean Casey animal shelter as part of my neighborhood is a real treat. They are very welcoming, and always want the best for both their animals and customers. I volunteer as a dog walker there, and I love it. They make it easy to get involved, and their appreciation is always evident. It’s a simple and inclusive non-profit that fosters good relationships between animals and people.
Amazing variety. Donation required and well worth its value.( all that it includes: shots plus pet micro chipped, next vet visit free within the month & pet is neutered- that alive is $150) I recommend 2 or people and both agreed. The references procedure I DISAGREED with. For example: I brought someone and I was not allowed to be one of the three references to be used, which is LAME since Im the one recommending them. Obviously I vouch they will be a good pet Mommy or why would I recommend them. That policy needs to be reevaluated & changed. Otherwise great. Owner & his Mom are lovely people. Other then that, I would of give them 5 stars.
I will keep you guys posted, right now my cat Nadia received two vaccines the same day based on her file & she’s reacting to the shots. If she doesn’t feel better in 24hrs I’ll take her to the vet.
Sean Casey Rescue is amazing the staff are very nice and helpful before the adoption process and after. I adopted a 3 month pitbull mix and its been an amazing couple days so far. Thank you to all the staff there !
Me and my friends go here for school, and we are apart of a group that goes every Friday. Unfortunately, there is so many people that go that we only go 2 times a month, so every 2 weeks. We love walking the dogs they have there, and it is really a pleasure to be around friendly dogs that need a home. If you can, I encourage you to make your way down here and do some service for them, whether it is giving them items that the dogs need (poop bags, newspapers, food, etc) or helping out by walking the dogs, it’s an amazing experience for you and the dog you are walking.
I had to surrender my tortoise who I had for 5 years due to never being at home and really not providing the best environment for him. They were very nice Sean Casey himself took the little guy and they were very patient and respectful as I tried to keep it together when I said good bye. I am still very saddened but I figured anyone who is going to a shelter, instead of a pet shop, to get a tortoise will be responsible. If you’re getting a tortoise ask about Killer! He’s really chill.
I’ve been trying to reach out to this organization to try to find my lost Yorkie Diesel. One person named Mark did answer the phone and was very rude and harsh… I felt judged that my dog was missing instead of being helped. I’ve emailed, I’ve called, I’ve Facebook messengered and still no response. It’s been 2 days. I just wanted help finding my lost dog. I’m so sad and this organization has made me feel like the people who are there to help don’t care at all. I don’t usually leave reviews but they’ve shut the door in my face.
Sean Casey fostered my Sugar Gliders after I had a fire in my home. They took excellent care of my pets (Donald & Melania) during the cleanup & repair to my house. I highly recommend them at a top-tier animal rescue facility.
I adopted my dog, Wayne, from here. This is a wonderful shelter and community of people. Even after years of having my dog I still go back there just to say hello, go to their Halloween block party, and participate in a fundraisers. This is the nicest group of people ever; they are always around to help out and/or give advice. Sean is extremely knowledgeable of all things pet related. If youre thinking about adopting a pet (dog, cat, turtle, hamster, bird, etc.) this is a top-notch place/community to go to. You will not be disappointed.
Amazing! They offer amazing tips and advice for people on how to take care of their pets and they are some of the nicest people. The owner, Sean, takes his time to listen to customers and staff members on both sides (dogs and cats) are very informative.
I got both my dogs at this place and they were so great! Sean and the staff are amazing. I found the love of my life there and a year later, i found another sweet baby. I would definitely go there again!
Very knowledgeable staff. All pets are clean and well taken care of. They make sure to get to know the personalities of all the animals in their care to help you make an informed decision on the right pet for your family ie; which pets are kid friendly, other pet friendly, etc. Thanks Sean we love our little Mikey boy!
What a wonderful place! I like to stop in here on my weekend walks to say hi to the cats. The people who work here are really friendly, and tortoises walk freely around the shop (they are beautiful) and the cats look well cared-for. They also have a good selection of pet supplies for sale.Definitely a good place to support.
Highly recommend this place to adopt any pets. Please if you reading this dont buy nor waste your money in buying pets. Please check this place out first and adopt a cur dog or cat.😸😻😽
Going in here, you just feel bad for the animals and their conditions. I know its a shelter and upkeep must be hard but these dogs don’t seem happy.
My experience over the years has not been great. People there always seem annoyed to have to interact w people. Zero social skills or customer service. Even over the phone if they pick up. I get you are focused on the animals but you run a business too. Applied many times to be a foster (live alone, no other pets, gainfully employed) and never heard back. Three times in two years. Then I responded to an emergency foster request and they sent me home with the animal same day. It was a more complicated foster plus the pandemic hit, and they were mostly unresponsive. Never knew what was going on. Then one day they let me know they are coming to get the animals tomorrow, call the next day and say hey we are coming now. Good thing I was home and my phone was on. They do amazing work with animals but have zero abilities when it comes to dealing with people.
Have walked dogs here a few times. Finally was ready to adopt one but this place does not care about efficiency or fairness and are unwilling to improve their process. If you want a pet from here, you will have stake out the place all day or someone will adopt the dog for their daughter who isn’t even committed enough to be there herself. You’ll watch them fill out an application in front of you while you stand there with your COMPLETELY filled out application and dog treats in your bag watching a far less interested person walk away with the pet you wanted.
THIS PLACE NEEDS A INVESTIGATION..THERE IS SOMETHING VERY BAD GOING ON HERE..THEY ARE IN MY OPINION HAVING THESE YOUNG KIDS that work there stealing cats from street AND SELLING THEM EVEN TGE DOGS..THIS PLACE IS A business why cant they keep this place clean you have bigger shelters that are spotless..listen people this place is a scammed I am telling yous..PLEASE I AM ASKING ALL TO Contect your inspected general office to start a investigation into this place or even the ASPCA...THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN..
Has a lot of pets up for adoption but they seem in pretty small quarters. They were super helpful in answering questions and are doing great work trying to rescue animals. The kitten I had been looking at happened to get an eye infection which I know is common and treatable. Overall, a good experience.
My malamute puppy escaped from my backyard the day after I adopted it. I panicked and looked around for it. Thankfully my sister found out she was at Sean Casey Animal Rescue. I am extremely happy that she was found and bought over there. They helped me spay and license it. The staff are nice and helpful.
Having worked and owned multiple types of animals from dogs to horses my entire life, I was very disappointed with the treatment of the animals at this facility. The occasional well cared for dog was overshadowed by the multitude of terrified, malnourished, and ungroomed dogs. While I am happy to see rescues finding homes, the ignorance and rudeness of the employees leads me to question how these dogs are treated and the homes they find.
Yes, 5 stars and i am not paid to write this review. Before you write any negative comments asks your self what have you done to help? We should be thankfull that a no kill shelter like this one exist but it takes a lot and it needs a lot of help from each of us. Give your time if not money to help. Every little helps. Everyone there works hard and has no time to entertain anybody. I dont know Sean but when I met him and told him that he is my only hope to save the life of a mother with her six puppies born in the street, he answered without any hesitation and said YES, bring them here as soon as you get them in the states. I dont need to know him more. Im grateful for all his help and for the amazing work he does rescuing and helping any animal in need. So try visiting the place and when you get to be there ask how you can help. Always remember Adopt do not Shop and thats the best place to adopt an animal in need.
Terrible service. Can never get in contact with these people. They have a very rude nonchalant dont care attitude about their business. Place is dirty.Lastly I tried to get a dog from them. They told me she had to get spayed and that she would be finished on Monday (I went on a Saturday). Literally everyday for two weeks they had an excuse for why they didnt have her spayed even though they have three animal hospitals they use all within three blocks of the shelter so we didnt end up getting her. They never called back when they said they would leaving us to call them and it took at least 4 calls each time to each them.I do not recommend this place to anyone. Terrible
Sean and the staff do AMAZING work. They tirelessly work to find homes and make good matches for the rescued animals. We adopted 1 kitten and and adult cat from Sean and are grateful for their addition to our home. The store sells all supplies to help meet the needs of your animals including food, litter, bowls, toys and carriers.
I volunteer here and I love it. The work theyre doing is invaluable and there is no question that the animals come first. This is a no-kill shelter that also specializes in exotic animals--its very rare to find a place that does both cats/dogs as well as reptiles, birds, Guinea pigs, etc. If youre looking to adopt, stop by Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Find your new best bud.
Friendly staff, very easy and quick to walk animals and help out.
Went there twice. First time I had no problem and the employees were decent. The second time, I was pretty obviously in need of assitance and was pretty much ignored by everyone. I wouldve been adopting my first pet so I wanted to ask a few questions. One guy just kept walking as I was speaking to him. The other guy asked someone who was in front of me if she needed help (a pretty young woman) but left as he was done talking to her saying he was busy. I followed him and found him peeling stickers off of items and when I asked him for help he PHYSICALLY TURNED from me as he was answering me. Beware, if to them you dont look like the typical Brooklyn fare that has $$$ or and its your first pet, dont bother coming here. The animals did seem healthy and cared for, which is why they even have any stars from me.
Sean is amazing. The place is run well. I was just not happy about one of the workers there. Teresa, not sure if she is a volunteer, but she was extremely abrupt and demanding. She insisted that a certain type of a crate to be purchased , then she wanted stuff to be bought from her petshop. Then she insisted on how to train and how to take care of the dog. She interrupted my friend and was giving unsolicited advice while we were deciding about the dog. Aside for that everyone who volunteered there including the cutest kid ever - Jon were incredible.
I adopted Angel (a three legged dog who has a history of abuse) from Sean. The process was very quick and even though she was in the animal hospital he told the staff to give us permission to see her. We went back a couple of days later and they told us that we could adopt her that day and that she had the surgery a couple of days ago. My aunt also adopted her dog Dita from Sean (he has Dita’s sister). The process was very quick and the people are friendly.Thank you so much Sean.
The process its self was quick. The variety of exotic pets available for adoption was large, we adopted two male guinea pigs. We were able to hold them and bond. They had everything we needed to create a comfortable home for our new pets.
I like this place alot. I came here for my trip from school for service and it showed me how much I have a good heart. I honestly wanted to adopt the day of and I was heart broken that I couldnt because I was underage!! The only thing that I dislike about this place is that they are very small and the capacity is very tight and limited ( more so speaking from the dogs section) and that they have other dogs in a bus/van.Other than that I was super surprised that they are the only animal shelter that takes in different types of animals( turtles, lizards, birds, and etc)!!
When my sister gave them our cat we were in tears and we changed our minds and when we went back they talked about how its fricking not legal like we are the owners what do you mean they were really rude the workers name was anna and now we are very heartbroken and its dumb cause when we didnt have her they were like we have no cats available like then why open the store?! im very sad that we lost our baby and regret every moment i wouldve been honestly happier going to a different rescue. when i saw her she was crying but they still didnt give her to us , dont go here guys your heart will be broken. its not worth it half the time they dont have cats. please dont go here
I always adopted, dont see the point of supporting the puppy mills. Sean personally helped us find the perfect dog for our family. Shes such a sweety. Will definitely go back for our next pet...
Look no further!! This staff is awesome! They are very informative regarding their rescues. They are truly animal lovers and have their best interests in mind. We spent the whole day with these beauties and we found our Princess!!!
Adopted a cat from here 5 years ago that I just had put to sleep today. When I first got him, they told me he was 4. After the first vet visit a few months later, I was told he was actually 7. He also had lymphoma and a rare hereditary disease, despite my being told he was in good health. Over time he deteriorated, losing weight and getting sick over and over. While I dont blame the shelter for this, as I imagine the vet they use just gives a regular check up, at the very least the age should have been correct!I appreciate the work that they do, and the service they provide, but due to the vet they use not giving the right age, Im hesitant to adopt from then again.
Sean you said pick another. I made the right choice. Never lived toregret it. Abe was the one.
They werent able to help with my cats situation. But they arent veterinarians after all.But they did give me good advice and were very sympathetic to my problem.I called them because of the overwhelmingly good things Ive heard. And hope they keep up the great work they do.
Rescued a beautiful tabby grey cat and brought him here after nursing him back to a healthy state first,, Ive called 30 times a day to check up on him and no one answers the phones at all,,its very very rare that anyone answers,,Im heartbroken worrying about this cat I left with them ,,,I couldnt keep him myself as I have a fiv cat at home,, I think of you everyday pressley hope your ok ,,praying your ok ,,
I wish they would educate people on how to properly walk dogs. Some people carry small dogs around the whole time because the dog doesnt like to walk. However that is not good for the dogs and makes them less likely to get adopted and more likely to develop aggression and other negative behaviors. Despite that, Sean Casey as an organization is a wonderful place giving these animals a chance at life.
I turned in my birds here, they were kind and helpful. They also did their best to find good pet parents for them. They care deeply about animals.
This is a great place to volunteer and walk dogs. Ive enjoyed being able to interact with the dogs even though we arent able to adapt at the moment. If you ever have time and want to help out I would highly recommend.
They take in struggling and hurt animals and bring them back to health. So happy they were there to find our cat and help him before we met him. Love their fundraisers. Always donate if you can.
I adopted a kitten (8weeks old) Friday October 9th and the next day he began sneezing blood after going to the vet Saturday I discovered he has a severe upper respiratory infection and feline herpes ,mind you he had gotten neutered earlier that week by a licensed veterinarian. Upon collecting and bringing a stool sample early monday my chosen veterinarian also discovered he has two different types of parasitic infections ( hookworm and coccidia) . I have him on 4 different medications and consider it very irresponsible for them to allow a kitten to be in this condition! 200 buck adoption fee to then spend hundreds to hopefully get him back in good health. I would not recommend this agency unless you are financially ready to help your new family member back to good health. So far at the times Ive called there has been no answer.
Horrible I gotba cat with ringworm and it cost over 700 to fix him. If my son didnt get attached Id give him back. Horrible horrible horribleO. Top of that the cat is not 2 months old like they said its closer to 4 or 5.
Walked our chihuahua a few times before coming in and adopting her within the hour. great staff, truly helps any animal in need. give them a dollar or two every time they’re in need of donations for an animal’s surgeries.
Volunteer to walk cute dogs (one or several back to back), for 45 minutes. Check the site for more information.
Such a great community shelter! I volunteer dog walk here and the people here are so caring about the animals that come through their doors. Also a nice little pet store with so many sweet cats and other small animals that need homes. Love this place :)
We adopted a female shih tzu from SC 3 years ago. Initially they seemed very professional. But as far as responsiveness they were awful. We could not contact them for anything. No one ever answered the phone. We had no idea when to pick up the dog. I almost changed my mind. They didnt even care when I drove from Staten Island to inquire why we didnt hear about the dog 2 days after we were supposed to pick her up.Well our lil girl dog passed away this week from cancer and so Im looking to adopt another friend for my boy dog. But it will never be from Sean Casey.
They were super helpful and informative. Weve been searching for months and the animals here you can tell are treated with better attention and quality than any of the shelters we visited this year. Thank you. Keep up the great work guys!
What a great rescue! In the last 3 years we brought in chickens, turtles, cats, and was even offered detailed information on where to take endangered birds. Just recently, we found an injured feral cat and the folks here took it right in and provided immediate veterinary treatment. Its clear how committed this group is to all animals in need , even to the people freaked out by their discovery. I would encourage anyone interested to donate to this organization. Thank you!
I went in to get my kitten Migi he has Felv but I didn’t mind he was so calm in his kennel but was super energetic when we got home Sean Casey definitely finds the rare gems
My Moms cat was rescued. I brought the cat my mom didnt want. These staff were really nice and they helped us out. I recommend this place for people to give away their cat or maybe pick one up👍👍👍👍👍
We adopted our best friend here back in November. She was a 2-year old Cockerspaniel mix that Sean took in from the street, and she is the sweetest, most loving and playful dog weve ever met. Sean does amazing work!
Sean’s a great guy and he is totally dedicated to saving animals. He runs a great rescue, and he’s helped me several times with animals as different as an abandoned baby squirrel and an injured feral kitten that had been attacked and bloodied by some unknown animal. Help support him!
Pretty cool place. Not saying all the dogs are friendly they all have their own unique personality but this place seems to do a very good job of taking care of the animals and finding them good homes.
They staff here are amazing!!! Super sweet to visitors and their animals. All the pets are super happy and this is one place to definitely check out. They also take volunteers for those who are just looking to walk their dogs to help out.
If i could give no stars I would. They’re unprofessional, they didn’t seem to want to let me adopt, and they told me I would be able to adopt a certain puppy just for them to give the puppy away right in front of my face. I asked to see other animals for adoption and they told me that it was too late even though I came at the scheduled time they told me. They seem to treat POC very poorly while tending to all no POC first. I was waiting for assistance for about 15 minutes before anyone even addressed me. I wouldn’t bring my worst enemy here.
Very good animals but the staff are extremely rude and disrespectful. Horrible customer service, they dont look at you when youre talking to them and dont bother answering questions regarding the animals. I have noticed multiple times that they are biased towards people with different religion and ethnicity. Please be more considerate in the future and work on your attitude when speaking to customers.
Sean is doing a much needed service to this community. He finds furever homes for hundreds of animals! Please adopt from his rescue to save more lives. He has a wide variety of cute dogs and cats/kittens. He even has pet supplies at his shop. Most people come to the New York area to sight-see. For me, I like to visit the rescues to raise awareness to help the incredible fur-heros! 🐾🐈🐕
The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. If one is not aware of the answer to your question, they will direct you to someone who does.I personally adopted 2 dogs from here and it was a great experience.
We have adopted two amazing cats from SCAR and we could not be happier. The last adoption, Sean was home sick but came in specially to take care of some last-minute needs for the kitten so that we could take her home that day.Adopt from these people. The work they do is awesome!
I love it here I go almost every day and each time they have dogs for me to walk, and cats to play with.
I came here originally and my intention was to adopt 2 kittens. From the moment I went in the store, I noticed how disgustingly filthy it was. I mean there were flies everywhere! We (my fiance and I) looked around for about an 30min before someone came up to us and asked if we needed any assistance. It wasnt even that busy when we got in! As I was walking around, I noticed how the cages were set up. Now, I understand that there isnt that much space but everything was on top of each other! it was just cats and mice and birds on top of each other in cages! The next immediate thing I noticed was how the sick kittens WERE NOT SEPARATED FROM THE HEALTHY ONES. The kittens that had a upper respiratory infection were in very close proximity to the other healthy kittens and animals! You would think that SOMEONE would separate them so it doesnt get passed around right? When we finally saw 2 kittens that we wanted it, it took them about 2 hours to get around to getting all of the paper work to us and completed. It was the volunteers who were helping out more and trying to get us aquainted with the 2 kittens. After we finally adopted to 2 kittens, one of them started to get sick and the other acted strange. It turns out, because one of the kittens were so close to another one that was sick, he caught it too. and to make it worse!!! the second kitten that we adopted was CLEARED with nothing noticeably wrong. IT TURNS OUT HE WAS BLIND!!!! HOW TO DO NOT REALIZE SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!! AND THEY SAID SHE WAS JUST SHY! first of all, all of the animals at Sean Caseys are suppose to go to the vet am I right? so that means that 1.all of workers who took care of the kittens, 2everyone at the vet and 3 the people that took them to the vet and back, all of these people didnt realize one simple mistake! This was by far the worse experience not only in customer service but in actual care for animals. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANYONE! If theres an inspection of some sort that they need to pass, I suggest notifying them for a surprise visit because I feel terrible for all of the animals there.... I hope this place gets new owner ship! Someone please tell me how do I give them lower than 1 Star!
I was there a years ago with some friends. They are very hard working people who love and care for the animals.
This small animal rescue/pet supply shop is a valuable asset to the community. I buy all my cat food at SCAR and Sean is very helpful when it comes to advising new pet parents. If I could give more star, I would!
I adopted a 2 yr old cat June 9th it’s going on two months. I’ve tried contacting them with some concerns I’ve left messages after messages no call backs. Is there any other way to contact them, It’s really frustrating
Amazing place to walk in and walk a dog. All the ones Ive worked with are so friendly. Many of the previous dogs have been adopted but a new group of amazing dogs have arrived
Adopted a kitten here and the staff was great and informative. This is a bare boned rescue with dedicated and hard working volunteers. You can help out walking the dogs every day, just come by!
Thank you so much to the extremely helpful, wonderful staff. i’m so glad i went, and found my #1 bff. he has been an amazing addition to our family. we are really glad we adopted an older dog.
I know people in my neighborhood of Flatbush who hot their pets from Sean Casey! The place is really part of our community
