Brooklyn Zoo & Aquarium Pet Store

I took my dogs for grooming at Zoo & aquarium Pet Store. The work done there is great. Hose is very knowledgable. He immediately noticed one of my dogs had an ear infection and recommended a vet visit, which confirmed a serious infection. He also saw that their skin didn’t look healthy and suggested a new medicated shampoo. I’m grateful for his attentiveness.The staff, including Hose, are all nice and welcoming, creating a comfortable atmosphere. Unlike other places where they couldn’t clip all my dog’s nails due to her restlessness, here the staff quickly and calmly got the job done without any issues.It’s clear Hose loves his work and animals, always bringing a smile and positive energy. I highly recommend this grooming service!

This place is definitely a one stop shop for pets. I love going in there for a purchase or just for a look see. The staff are friendly and helpful and know their stuff. Their fish selection is amazing and what they dont have they will gladly order for you. The plant selection is varied with some really healthy looking plants. Their other live animals look Healthy and comfortable. I highly recommend this shop.

I assure you,their well known popularity,reputation and success dominates over those alleged ticky tack flaws.Proof here.I used to drive trucks for the biggest pet supply distributor in the business.Ive delivered to every single pet store in the entire borough of Bklyn and this places weekly order of supplies largely outdid every other pet store by a long shot.Whats the point?=Their demand would supercede (what i thought)the amount of space they had in that family owned business.But the supplies were always in demand.Clearly the indication of being a very well respected and liked business.Numbers dont lie.You dont have to care for certain peoples personalities that supply your pets care,but love and appreciate they have everything you need to take care of your loved pet.

***DO NOT TAKE YOYR DOG HERE TO BE GROOMED****I recently took my Chow Chow to Brooklyn Zoo for a standard winter cut.I explained to the groomer and we agreed that she would take his hair down short in the back of his body and to give him a lion cut. That his mane was to be trimmed.The groomer went on to tell me that my dogs hair was severely matted. I strongly disagreed with her and told her once again to cut the back near his hind-legs shirt however not to cut him mane which is part of one of my dogs breed distinctive characters along with his black tongue.In any regard, I returned to the groomer to pick up my dog and the below are the before and after pictures.***BEWARE***By the way, it’s starting to get very cold here in New York. My dog is left hairless and cold.

I have been going to this place for years. Nobody else can groom my baby except JOS`E. I’m always happy with the results of how he grooms my baby. You can tell he loves what he do & is always patient with my baby. 💙🥰

What an amazing pet shop overall, I went there to buy some fish and was amazed by everything. Beautiful clear and clean tanks, extremely healthy fish, (didnt see one dead or sick one) huge selection of salt water fish, very patient and knowledgeable workers (owner). They have some birds and other pets in the back

JOSE is great at what he do he has a strong personality so if u cant take the heat stay out the groom room lol but he is sweet and means no harm (kinda like me) i was happy for the recommendation!!

Both doggies get groomed there, always happy. They get the teeth cleaned as well. From a different person. Highly recommend.

I called this pet store and spoke to Peter. I explained the situation and asked him if he might now where I could take our pet. My sons pet guinea pig got sick over the 4th of July weekend and it was nearly impossible to find a vet. He was not only knowledgeable, he took the time out to help as much as he could and gave me some places I could try and some recommendations. Needless to say, we werent able to find a vet and our guinea pig, Blue, passed away.

Dont ever buy an animal from this place, they had a store cat they never took care of the poor animals was given away to someone and they took it to the vet she has a thyroid problem that was NEVER address for years and now she has cancer so think twice before you go into this store. This is not a made up story ask any worker in that place who they didnt care for this poor cat. Karma comes around and i hope you suffer the way the cat is now.

They were great with my pug Roscoe. This was the first time he has been to a groomer and he looks so much happier after they were done.

Their customer service is excellent!!…A very welcoming atmosphere, with staff that came up to us with helpful advice and service.Very large selection of both fresh and saltwater fish, as well as plenty of merchandise for sale.…Some of the tanks looked like they needed better maintenance, but I’m assuming they’re just understaffed.East to find parking right in front of the store.The prices to me personally seemed a bit on the higher side for the saltwater fish. A great selection though.

This is a very family-oriented pet store. They have everything. Its been open for many years. Pete and Deb are very knowledgeable people. They are economical and they really care about animals. I would recommend this business to anyone with a pet that they love.

Brought my cat here to have her ingrown claws cut. They were very gentle and professional. Will come again. Oh yeah they have other stuff too for all animals. Well stocked shelves. Oh yeah the cashier up front is very knowledgeable and friendly. Im glad this shop is here.

Was told about them from the guy we bought our tank from and they did it all ....picked up and set up our new 60 gallon salt water aquarium!! Peter who moved our tank was very helpful and answered all our questions was very patient. Cant wait to visit the actual store and purchase some new little tank buddies !

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, happy to answer questions. They have a large selection of salt water and fresh water fish, birds and reptiles. They have all the essentials whether you just have a dog or cat or if you have more exotic animals that require more specialty care. Some of the items are slightly more expensive than they would be at a big brand store, but with that being said; I’d much rather shop with these guys and pay the extra $1.50 for cat food and have them answer all my stupid questions and help me find what I need instead of shopping at pet Co.

I brought my cat in today to have his nails trimmed. The two women that took care of him were excellent. The staff at the front counter were also friendly and professional. Thank you, I will be back when his nails need trimming.

There is a woman there that is nice Enough she has light blonde hair and bangs even though I felt like she was following me around as if I might steal. Maybe they don’t get a lot of black customers that wear book bags to avoid having to carry a heavy load on one shoulder. The man that works there is usually rude and unresponsive as if he doesn’t want to be bothered. The store is really cramped and smelly which I guess is to be expected. This place is in my neighborhood so I try to support small businesses but I honestly never feel comfortable when I visit. More importantly they DONT WEAR MASK!!!! they walk right up to you and talk and have no considerations for the current pandemic. If you want to go somewhere that actually cares I wouldn’t recommend this place.

They have pretty much everything you need all kinds of fish from saltwater to freshwater. But their prices are alot higher than other local petstores. The workers were very helpful with helping me decide on what i needed. Will go again but will shop around first

The place isnt bad. I like the fact that they have many female Betta in a 10gal. tank. They only issue I had was that a lot of plants are not potted and there is a lot of dead leaves on the taller plants. And they have house plants inside the tanks. Smh not sure why they do that. And the prices are a little high. Good customer service once someone pays attention to you. The only reason I gave it a 3 is due to the plants not being 100% healthy and the prices on the plants and some of the fish

Great shop. The workers are all friendly, offer help everytime Im in the store. The groomers are patient, love animals and are great at what they do.

If I could give a zero I would. I bought 2 rabbits from this place n both had same problem n died. I would not recommend anyone to come here. I took the rabbit to the vet cost 400 dollars and still died. They dont even have a vet checking these animals they are sickly. This is worst place. Please do not buy any animals from here they do not care for them.

I came in for a companion bird for my dad. The lady there was really helpful and knowledgeable. I left with 3 parakeets and all the necessities to keep them happy and healthy.

Place purposely doesnt tell people that live feeders could potentially give your fish disease for money on medication and the feeders, decently care for animals but ich always rampant. People there r generally helpful though but always there for quick bucks. Also they recommend vacation feeders even if their automatic feeders are in stock that result in either overfed fish, nitrate/detritus problems and potential algae in the tank because of the amount of detritus in the tank. Your better of just not feeding your fish for a week than using them or getting an automatic feeder. Also they feed their predatory fish live feeders and have a recirculating system for multiple systems that mix with the community fish so their fish are bound to be contaminated with stuff you didnt even see in the tank. I would go here to order fish but I would always quarantine.

I have a bearded dragon I buy all my products and food from here. If they dont have it, they will get it.

Decent selection of fresh and saltwater animals. Largest selection of marine animals in the area. Reptiles look good, housing could be much better. Large snakes and lizards in small tanks. Small animals are over crowded and birds could use more TLC. Good selection of animal and aquatic supplies. Prices dont look to be excessive. Customer service was good.

Very helpful and quick had new tank and lid along with great advice and service in less than 5 minutes.

The animals in the back were in a very hot room the rabbit and guinea pigs were panting all that was on was a small fan blowing on glass enclosures . The rabbit was in a small cage and the wayer was filthy . The chameleon was sickly The boy working there was scared when I questioned him and said the fan gets turned off at nightsIts very hot in there for themI do not think the people there care at all for these animalsWe Stop buying fish there they are always sickly . I am very worried for the animals in the back its a disgrace** addition ** the temperature back there was over 80 there was 1 fan and nothing gets left on overnight . The furry animals back there were panting , I came in a few times to check . Very very sad

I come here for my pets needs. Staff is incredibly nice, store is clean and very well organized. My favorite room is the reptile/bird/ furry animal room. They have an assortment of supplies and food. You can get your pets groomed in the back room. A variety of fish and tanks are available too. You can get your pets groomed in the back room also. What I like the most about going by this pet shop is that they make you feel very welcomed and when I do swing through, they usually have what I need in stock!!! Thank you!!

Very nice staff and has a nice variety of fish considering the stock that the store is able to maintain. The fish look healthy and lively the displays are well sorted and the owner is extremely knowledgeable in the maintenance of fish.

Been going to BK ZOO for yearsI will never or could ever go anywhere else they are the very best. Especially grooming my two dogs.and I also have my 2 turtles🐢🐢Cowwabunga and Survivor that was purchased from there years ago

Good place, they take care of the animals here, nice clean tanks. The owner is a bit rough around the edges but aside that its highly recommended

I bought a bird there today and its going great she got along with all of the other birds only problem was she was covered in shell seeds and poop. I sprayed some water/ rose water on her and hopefully I can give her an amazing life

Its pretty goodThey were very informative and are always here for any questions or to just provide support. The girl in platinum blonde hair with bangs in the fish aisle was very kind and helped me buy a beautiful purple baby betta, i was lucky to buy the last millet sprays for my other pet i will be coming again sometime soon just keep the bird supplies in stock better to support small buisninesses than petco/petsmart!edit: The purple betta died within only 10-12 days. I fed her everyday as instructed

I shop at corporate pet stores but when I want specific species of fish or equipment I go to the mom & pop stores. Every time I come here I spend $0 and walk out. First of all the tanks are mislabeled. And the place is filthy and congested with equipment all over the place. I was greeted with Ya need something?. I said Im looking for cory catfish but there arent any in this tank. He said if the tank says cory then their in there. Ok great answer. I dont work there, but if I did I would find them for the customer or look for a tank with them.

Called there and asked if they sold large hermit crab shells and if they had a larger selection. The man who answered the phone said yes. I told him I’d be driving 20 miles to get there. He said they had a large collection of larger hermit crab shells. I got there and there were six (THAT’S RIGHT 6 SHELLS)! Disgusting!!

Havent been in a what seems to be a family owned pet store since the 80s. I had no clue to what I needed but Mike unknowingly helped me (I was clueless to what I needed & didnt know the right questions.) I left happy and inclined to go back for other items. Never knew how hard it was to buy fish. Lol

Updating my once 5 star review to this... Called and asked the price of Nemo fish... Gentleman on the phone insisted that I come around and wed work something out, whatever that means. Anyway I got there and the price was on the tank $65. I was buying 3 gold fishes to add to my 6 Goldies. I simply asked the assistant, how they keep the water looking so sparkling clean....this erupted into wanting to test my water, how often I change my water and recommending not buying fish and the works. Im grateful for new information always but this was ridiculous as I wasnt even allowed to answer...and the question was not answered. Anyway, Happy to report my fishy boos are doing well and its been months. But I will not return and continue to go to Petsmart where I usually go.

They are very pleasant and take care of animals entrusted to them. This is where my fiance and I take our pets. They pick up & deliver for a extra $10. Our puppies always come home spiffy ....

Great local pet store; always provided consistent quality products for our pet bird. My husband grew up going to this location regularly.

I was babysitting for 2 10 week old kittens when I saw a flea. I went over to the zoo and they took them right in for a flea bath. I had them back in an hour, for a very reasonable price.

Ive been going to this place for quite a while now. Staff is friendly and the place is well kept. But, they way they have some of the animals locked up in the back is ABHORENT. Birds, reptiles, and rodents are locked in tiny overcrowded tanks. Sad!

I visited this place recently based on their google reviews which were very good. Which im assuming were reviews probably from the owners and family members of the stores, or maybe paid reviews because this place was  AWFUL. I should’ve checked yelp reviews first where they have 1 star and a half. BY FAR, AND I REALLY MEAN THIS, BY FAR THE WORST PET STORE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO.I went here for the fish, because i have kept fish for years and i just wanted to check this place out and see what type of fish they had. and yup the type of fish they have are sick and dead fish! do yourself a favor DONT EVER visit this place. I will be reporting them for animal abuse.I walked in and nobody even acknowledge me or i asked if i needed help and not because they were visit, they were all sitting right by the front door just having conversations and being very loud. Lets not even talk about that rude tall guy that works there. Im looking at a fish tank and he stands next to me reaching over my face to get something and didnt even say excuse me or ask if i needed help and when i asked if a fish that they had in the tank was a Gourami he said Oh is that what they call them? and walked away, like do you even know what type of fish you are selling? lol seriously disgusting.I looked over a the betta section and these poor fish had the cloudiest and dirtiest water ever

They have pets you wont expect, been this way for years! Ive purchased several long living exotic pets from them with no health problems!

This is a place that makes real animals enthusiasts sad to go to. They have a great selection of animals with decent but wrong care. They have reptiles under incandescent bulbs, tortoises (225 for sulcata babies, really?) eating romaine lettuce (while they sell proper food) with an obvious pyramiding issue on an older Russian. While the animals may survive living there, it is not a life that one would put on any creature.

Relatively cheap place to get supplies, including live feed. Staff have always been knowledgeable and friendly. Ive been visiting since childhood.

Theyre here to serve the neighborhood theyve been here for a long time and shrunk as the neighborhood has gotten more expensive but theyve always been the most reliable pet store in thearea and have everything you need as well as expertise and not just people looking for a job like Petco

I was in this store and it was only three other people and two of them was together, I was completely ignored for ten minutes waiting for crickets then decided to get fish food and was ignored at the counter they was talking about personal stuff and I totally got fed up and left. Never again!!

I went there to look for a pet and there was a cage full of gerbils and one of them must have passed away, and SUPRISINGLY, the lady literally picked it up by its tail and threw it in the garbage RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE! You don’t do that in front of a costumer! I know one thing as a fact! I am not going there again! EVER!

Was very uncomfortable with the greeting that was received when my friend and I walked in the store. I am not sure if they use to brown/black customers. This might have been an isolated incident but I will not make any future purchases.

The customer service there is terrible. I was in the store for 1/2 and did not receive any help. Workers walked right by my son and myself and said nothing. It was a disappointing experience for the two of us

Got the fish tank cleaning service started off good then the prices steadily increased over a few months and i came to find out they were taking stuff from my tank and filters also i lost over a dozen fish while they were cleaning every week havent lost one since i switched services

Terrible experience, the guy charged me 30 dollars for cutting the nail of small cockatoo. This should be since I paid 20 for my African gray at bird jungle

I get bird seed for my backyard bird feeder. Sparrows, mourning doves, male and female cardinals, and a few blue jays. However, a few pesky pigeons get in the way.

Brooklyn Zoo is one of the only neighborhood pet stores on this area! My experience has been, friendly, knowledgeable, staff!

Just like with most small pet stores, the quality of care for the animals is poor. Dont think i would actually buy another let from here.

The shop is much smaller than it used to be they have a decent selection of both saltwater and regular fish. They also have rats, hamsters gerbils etc. However the issue I have is that much of the staff is very nice and helpful however there is one staff member whos name I wont post who had a very bad attitude each time I went there. So just beware who helps you

Don’t Come Here to Get Any Ferrets I Got My Ferret here About 9 to 10 months ago almost a year And he is Always well Fed and Taken care of and Is Very Sick At the Moment and On The Verge of Dying I was told that he had his Shot and He Never really had his shots I Didn’t get any paperwork with him nothing 0/10 experience

Be careful don’t go here and ask for a full service they cut your dogs hair without bathing them i called to let them know my dog smells on the fifth day when in reality I smelled him that same night but due to how far I traveled I couldn’t come back right away they refused to accommodate me ! TERRIBLE SERVICE RUN DO NOT COME YOU MIGHT AS WELL PAY $90 AND KNOW YOUR DOG IS ACTUALLY CLEAN. IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULD GIVE NONE
