Amazing rescue with such an important mission! We adopted Kaya and had so much support from the entire team who really equipped us for success. We have since fostered 3 dogs with KK9R, and they have helped us every step of the way from providing all the resources we needed to how to best introduce fosters to Kaya. It has been such a joy to support this organization!

Ive only know about this organization for a year, but in that time they have transformed my life. My husband and I started by adopting a puppy in February. We repeatedly say its the best decision weve ever made. KK9R does everything they can to set you up for success and support you through the process. They gave us a thorough orientation, made sure we had all the supplies we needed to bring our girl home and recommended an excellent vet and trainer. Then, we became part of their community by attending their fundraiser parties, which are a blast. Theyre so fun, but the swag bags alone are worth the price of entrance. Next, we fostered 3 wonderful dogs and volunteered at adoption events. We had wonderful foster experiences because KK9R is so organized and professional. The dogs do a lot of training and socialization in Korea, so when they arrive for foster and adoption they already know basic commands, leash walking and have great manners. Its been exciting be able to help dogs and an organization I believe in so much. We fostered failed our last time around, so here we are 1 year later with dogs, our lives completely changed and happier than weve ever been.

I’ve fostered 3 dogs with KoreanK9 over the last few months and this is one of the best run rescues you can find. Everyone on their team truly does everything they can for their dogs, as well as their fosters and other volunteers. Each dog I’ve fostered has been so well behaved and truly a joy to watch grow into their new environment. It is clear their team in Korea does a lot to help the dogs start to adjust before they come to their new country. I highly recommend getting involved with the organization in any way you can - adopt, foster, volunteer!

With so many rescue orgs in NYC, it can be hard to find the best fit. As a volunteer, former foster parent, and recent adopter @ Korean K9 Rescue, I can say that the team is incredible, the process is very clear and hands-on, and I could not be happier with my experience and my rescue pup. They have extensive resources for prospective and new adopters including orientation, manuals, vet recommendations, trainers, etc. An important piece for me is KK9Rs post-adoption check-in process and the wonderful community they have built for alumni adopters.Cannot recommend them enough!

Ive been fostering with Korean K9 for over a year and I cant speak highly enough of the organization. The organizers are incredibly thorough and make themselves available around the clock and as a foster Ive always felt supported and appreciated for the work that we do. The organization as a whole works very comprehensively. From the dogs being rescued from shelters, farms, and the streets of Korea they work incredibly hard to make sure that the dogs are trained in basic things like potty training and crate training prior to them coming to the United States and that makes fostering much much easier for obvious reasons. And they also make adopting an incredibly thorough process as well so I feel very confident that when one of my fosters get adopted theyre going to go to a really good homes. I feel like Korean K9 has really implemented an exceptionally thorough process from when theyre in Korea, during the fostering period, and even after adoption. During the fostering period, any time we have any health or behavior issues with the dogs, the organizers are incredibly responsive and give really good guidance on how to address behaviors. I can keep rambling but I really cant say enough good things about this organization and thank them for all the work they do.

I cannot say enough great things about Korean K9 Rescue. I have personally fostered 5 dogs (and counting) from them and I have also adopted one of my fosters to add to my pup family! What they do for these dogs is above and beyond. I personally appreciate the rules and regulations surrounding their foster care system as it keeps the dogs safe. Once working with them, it is so clear where every dollar goes and that is right back to the dogs whether that is food, care, supplies, medical etc. So much goes into each and every dog. I have worked the most with Vicky and I cant say enough great things about her. She is warm, communication is always clear and she is so considerate. Gina is so knowledgable about the dogs and I know I am in good hands whenever I have any questions. The community that Korean K9 Rescue has built is so impressive and Im so proud to be a part of it.

I have volunteered with KK9 for several months now and am incredibly impressed by the dedication and deliberation of their staff. They find the best possible homes for each of the dogs in their care and make sure that all of the adopters are equipped to deal with the types of dogs they are adopting. The dogs get premium care, with trainers, meals and supplements, and every penny goes back to helping these dogs find their new homes. This is the service I wish I had when adopting my own dog and I’m so happy to help an organization I know is doing right by the animals and people.

We rescued Ruthie from KK9R four years ago and are so thankful we did. She is the perfect addition to our family.KK9R’s application process is very easy to navigate and organized. Their website has a ton of great info and they’re transparent about adoption fees etc. We have learned a ton since getting Ruthie and are so happy to have adopted from this group.I have recommended a lot of friends to adopt from the group since I had such a lovely experience. We have made a ton of dog and human friends through their robust alumni network. They do amazing work rescuing pups from the S. I could write for hours about my incredible experience with KK9R, but Ill give you the sparknotes.I adopted my dog, Milo from KK9R back in early July and since then I have spent nearly every weekend volunteering to aid this rescue and their amazing mission. The people here truly love dogs and want nothing more than to see dogs find the very best homes for them. From a required supply list, to fresh-food diet requirements, to the emphasis on training, KK9R really are huge advocates for dogs before, during and after they have been adopted. They also have an expansive and knowledgeable alumni network, so if you ever have questions or just want a sense of community, you get that with this rescue.I would recommend this rescue time and time again and will be going to them first the next time I am looking to expand my family!

We adopted our dog, Ruby, in July 2020. Anyone knows that rescuing a dog in NYC is a very detailed and long process. We looked at almost every rescue in NYC and knew that Korean K9 Rescue was the one for us. The amount of care and time they put into applications, interviews, making sure that their dogs are matched with the perfect family - its remarkable. They care SO much about their dogs and the community that follows after adopting from them is so wonderful. Bringing a dog home can be overwhelming, but Korean K9 Rescue has a required must have list of things you need to buy before bringing your dog home and it truly puts your mind at ease. You know what food to have (and how to prepare it), what treats, collars, leashes, beds...everything you could think of. It saves you from panic researching/purchasing before the dogs arrival. They even set you up with a trainer to help your dog adjust. They were super fast to respond to all my questions during the adoption process. Because we adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic, we werent able to meet/see our dog before picking her up, but Korean K9 Rescue did such a great job of taking photos of her and even having her foster family create a long video talking about her and showing a day in the life of our dog that we felt like we knew her without even meeting her. I love Korean K9 Rescue and Im so happy we adopted from them. I recommend them to everyone.

Our family has a great experience with both fostering and adopting from Korean K9. You can tell they really care about their dogs and have put in a tremendous amount of effort to help save these dogs and give them the best lives they can. The intense process and strict policies made me nervous at first but it was one of the most rewarding decisions I ever made to got through with the process.I adopted Mocha (aka BB) back in July and couldnt be more thrilled to have her in our family. While the process might have been more intense than other places, you can tell that they really put the best interest of the dogs in place to make sure that every dog is matched with the best home fit. These dogs are being rescued from some terrible living conditions and its amazing the amount of effort they put in to make sure the dogs are put into a loving home. While requiring a trainer may seem off-putting for some folks, it really helps to instill confidence and trust with these dogs who may just need a little more loving and patience than an average dog. I felt a lot more reassured by having a trainer - something I honestly never wouldve considered normally. One of the best things is also the fact that theres a strong KK9 community! Ive chatted with several alumni and also gotten some tips and attended some events that was great to have. Ive also been able to have my doggo meet up with her littermates which was super heartwarming to see.

I adopted my rescue dog from Korean K9 in 2019 and started fostering for them this year, as we have learned so much from helping our pup Cali open up and get used to the hectic city of NYC!KK9R does amazing work in Korea to save dogs from terrible conditions like dog meat farms, being chained up, and hoarding situations. These dogs deserve a great life in a loving home, and in many cases they need plenty of recovery time and care to adjust to the good life.I very much respect KK9R for their strict policies in finding the right home that suits each dogs needs. It might not be the easiest process, but I appreciate knowing that their rescue dogs will recover, be cared for and live their best lives at the right forever home.

I have a long history with this rescue organization (from adopting & fostering) and cannot say enough great things about the rescue and the team behind it… the time and resources and effort that is put into this organization by the KK9R team behind the scenes is incredible, especially since non-profit work can be thankless and unnoticed a lot of time.I was first connected with my very first dog (who has since passed in 05/2022) by Gina (and I don’t know if that woman ever sleeps because) she always made time to answer all my first time dog owner questions and concerns no matter the time!I have then since fostered with them while I slowly was readying myself for another dog & Vicky and the other foster organizers were very helpful throughout that as well! Always made time for me and thanked me for fostering! We ultimately decided when we were ready to bring home our new pup into our hearts we would go with KK9R again ❤️ The trainer they connected us to us amazing and the alumni group is full of resources and provides an irreplaceable sense of community and camaraderie

In my search to find the right rescue and the right dog for me to adopt, my mom and I happened upon Korean K9 Rescue back in 2019 after seeing their adoptable dogs through Petfinder. After reading their mission to rescue dogs from dog meat farms, high kill shelters, and other extenuating conditions, I knew this was the organization I wanted to support. Their application process is detail and thorough, making it their top priority that all adoptable dogs are matched with the best humans applying – even more so during the pandemic.Since adopting my first dog from them in 2019, I have adopted another earlier this year (2021) and could not have been happier. I highly encourage all potential dog adopters to take a look at their website and read up on where these dogs are rescued from in South Korea, and KK9R’s mission and goals. This is an organization that I always tell my friends to look into, and I will forever support and promote Korean K9 Rescue and what they continue to do.

Adopters and fosters from the org stay in contact and are continually helped by KK9!Most importantly, the dogs are the sweetest and cutest! Their process to bring them to the US from Korea is seamless and they are always trying to improve how they work with their volunteers and what is best for the dogs. I’ve also volunteered at adoption events and they have strict rules in place so the dogs can be a comfortable as they can and not scared. We adopted our dog Mika through Korean K9 in 2019. They are an exceptionally well run organization where the priority is always on the dogs needs and saving as many as possible. Because the dogs are rescued internationally some costs might be higher than domestic shelters, and the dogs might also have specific needs that dont make them suited to all environments, especially highly stimulative or busy households. Thanks to their rigorous screening process, very few dogs are returned to the shelter. We are grateful we were able to adopt from them and would encourage anyone who believes they would be a good fit to apply to foster or adopt from them.

We couldn’t be happier! We adopted a dog from Korean K9 Rescue and the whole experience was extremely professional. Unlike some other places, it really felt like the organization had their sh*t together and wasn’t just randomly putting dogs out there for random people to adopt. As with most rescue places in NYC, there was an extensive application and interview process. I respected the fact that they actually called our references. Everyone throughout the process was kind, quick to respond and reasonable. The orientation for new owners was amazing and I really don’t know how we would have gotten along those first few days (months!) without it. They have a lot of rules but they are worth following (because they are right!) and their alumni community is amazing.I was nervous about getting a “shelter/rescue” because of the potential behavioral problems, but KK9 really takes care of their pups and the foster descriptions/videos really help them match them to their homes. Our sweet girl is doing amazing and we really can’t imagine our lives without her.

Korean K9 are incredibly devoted in their mission to improve the lives of dogs. Theyre more rigorous in the application procedure than many other rescue organizations and can appear to have a lot of rules when applying but ultimately I think its because they really want the adopters to be highly prepared and certain in their decision to adopt a dog and give it the best possible life. This is particularly helpful if youre a first time dog owner and having a list of supplies and approved trainers makes the process and transition into your home much smoother (while also making you aware of the commitment youre signing up for by owning a dog). Theyre very good at matching families with the right kind of dog, and we ended up with the most perfect addition to our family for which we cant thank KK9R enough.

The questions during the interview were thorough and they made sure we knew what we were going into and that we were prepared. It took several weeks for us to be matched with Cody and we much appreciate that the matching process was carefully thought out.Once we were matched we were given a checklist of supplies and a trainer recommendation, which was super helpful for a first time dog owner like ourselves. Not only did we feel prepared, but we also felt well educated to carry on by ourselves. The post adoption support is incredible as well - Gina (director) as well as the entire staff is very knowledgeable and responsive, should you have any questions. We adopted our pup from KK9R in May 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic. However, we fostered 6 dogs with them before that and are continuing to foster rescues this year. With the fostering process, KK9R has adopted Slack as their communication platform, which has helped greatly with sending photos and videos for social media and also updates on a daily basis to check in, get feedback on training, and just help in general. The foster program manager and assistant are great about staying in touch a well as Gina, the executive director of KK9R.For future fosters, I would recommend reading the provided material and watch the related videos to mentally prepare yourself on the expectations. Once you have an understanding of KK9Rs protocols/routines with the pups and some experience with their pups, its somewhat rinse/repeat, but of course every dog is different. For future adopters, I would recommend a bit of patience! We applied about 5 times before we were able to adopt our pup. KK9R does get a lot of applications and rely on volunteers as well. Gina and team find the best fit, which can take time and theres been a huge demand for dogs given the pandemic.

I’m giving this organization 2 stars because while I do support their cause, I haven’t been happy with their communication. I understand this organization is largely run by volunteers, but when declining their applicants they list vague reasonings for why they do so. They mentioned something about how my lifestyle might be better suited for adopting a dog from a domestic shelter instead of an international one. Though I’m still not clear as to how they are assessing that information. When my mother reached out to them for more details, they were not responsive. I’ve also tried to foster with this organization a while back, but the person I was in contact with just ghosted without giving an explanation.

I first came in contact with KK9R in July 2018 when adopting a dog through them. Their adoption process has likely changed since then, but my experience was positive. Staff was transparent in letting me know what to expect in terms of how fearful or nervous the dogs would be and how to adjust. They also sent documentation on recommended products, food and gear that are healthy and safe choices for the pups which helped narrow shopping options and provided educational resources. The application process involved a few pages of questions, interview and reference checks and staff were transparent in what to expect. One of the great benefits of rescuing from them is their robust alumni community. The community looks out for each other in sharing stories, experiences, reviews etc that can be beneficial to other adopters. Their staff members are also highly responsive and knowledgeable too. The community helps remind you that youre not alone.I wholly believe in KK9Rs mission in banning the dog meat trade and educating others about its horrors. I highly recommend this rescue whether youre interested in adopting, fostering, donating or sharing their story.

Interesting experience.Definitely felt more like a business than an adoption/rescue place. It was $700 to adopt the pupper (Which I felt was High but okay).and then a surprising $750 mandatory trainer fee. Yes they will attest that it was written on the application process but the wording can be misunderstood as an extra service they recommend not MANDATE. Plus additional fees were still to come.Just to put this in perspective, I 100000% believe Adopt Dont Shop, but you can literally take 1 hour drive to PA and see a breeder to adopt any dog youd like for ~$1,000. With this being said, I also believe in Greenwashing and this is exactly what is happening here. Also to put in perspective, my fiancé volunteers at a rescue and their fees are $450 regardless of the puppers age.It felt more like a business transaction than a good deed being done by two parties who truly care about animals. Some positives I would share:The foster parents were there and they were very nice. Our interviewer was very nice as well and asked great question. So they definitely do a great job in vetting out who the owners are by asking the right questions. This is not at all to dismantle someones business but more of a be aware of the type of rescue you are transacting with.Weird behavior from a Non-Profit.

Well,I’d say that applying for PHD from Harvard is easier than getting accepted to Adopt a dog from this place, and when you’re declined you’ll get a long standard email of very complicated reasons of why you were not accepted…Like, you did not throughly researched the resources and conditions that the need to be met when adopting an International dog: of course everybody knows how hard can people learn Korean barking vs American barking.Another funny point in the email was: We feel the adopter may be better suited to adopt a domestic dog who may be more socialized and tolerant of the adopters lifestyle and schedule. Seriously, what ?????!! What is the difference between a rescued Korean dog and another one rescued from the Bahamas which we ended adopting. That’s a reason written just to try to saying how sophisticated they are trying to be.Finally we got: The applicant intends to feed the dog kibble and not the requested raw or fresh food diet after the adoption. Which in various communications we stressed to know exactly what Brand/Type of food is needed for this Breed, so getting such a comment is either: 1- A standard email which is send to every rejected person. Or 2- They lived in an Illusion during conversations and calls. The only true thing they mentioned in the email that there are other wonderful shelters out there. And guess what, other shelters processes are more welcoming, easier and really care about the Dogs as well as the adopters, in addition way cheaper.

We adopted our sweet Lumi (fka SomYi) in December 2020. For us the process moved very fast, we submitted an adoption form on a Thursday, interviewed on Friday and picked her up on Monday. We were not able to meet her ahead of time due to the pandemic but KK9 Rescue had organized a livestream of the available dogs and provided photos and videos of her. The adoption team was very diligent, they asked us a ton of questions, called our references and made sure we were prepared to adopt a pup who needed extra support. During the new adopter orientation Kat and Gina patiently and thoughtfully answered every question we had. They made sure we knew in advance that Lumi was going to need rehab/training since she was so shy and anxious. With the help of a great trainer (Devi Do) Lumi has come so far in just four months. Watching her grow and become more confident has truly been the most rewarding experience of our lives. An added bonus is the supportive alumni community. It looks like these guys are running their own puppy mills in South Korea rather than rescuing the pets. Most of their volunteers are really good, but the interviewers talked to us for 15 minutes and literally showed no interest in several people. We noticed that, people they were interested in and who were suitable according to their own maybe bias they would sit with them for 30 mins or more but with those who they deemed lesser worthy they would hardly spend 10 minutes or less. Also, we have seen more than once that they are mostly keen on having their puppies adopted rather than other dogs. Some of their dogs have been around for months and months and the still bring them to their meet-and-greet and they are the cutest ones, but only their puppies get adopted.Overall, they are worse than a breeder, they are a puppy mill who use rescuing as a means to charge almost a $1500 for adopting a pup. Their $880 is just an adoption fee, they also force you to only work with about 10 trainers in tristate area when there are hundreds of better trainers you can work with. Its kind of forced labor for the adopter and ironic when they say that they are freeing pups from breeding grounds to have them forced to be trained by only specific trainers.Overall, they are a sham and also advertise on Google and other places when you type in Korean puppies as if they are in the business of selling puppies for cheap

I watched the YouTube about Korean Jindo dog that LAPD trained it to use it as a mission dog at Police & Army. But it was too smart to obey simply to the trainer. It was using its own will for the situation. And it obey only to its original owner, not the new one ! So when police & Army need dogs who simply perform what they are trained, Jindo dogs are too smart beyond humans expectations ! So I Googled if I can get it in U.S. Thats why I found this organization ! I wish I can adopt 2-4 now, but I have a space issue, so I talked to them only. But when I can get them, I will ! I know the story that some Jindo owners who needed to move to far cities, they left their Jindos to their relatives, then taking months, they came back to their original owners !!! ITS A MIRACLE HOW THEY COULD TRACE THE OWNERS ON THE ROADS AFTER MONTHS !!! SURVIVING COULD BE QUITE DIFFICULT ! MAYBE THE LOYALTY OF THE JINDOs is the BEST among dogs ???

Our second application was successful and our little dog is a total joy. She had to be spayed before we could adopt her which was a little nerve-racking for us but Gina was very reassuring through that process. We feel continually supported by the Korean K9 Rescue community who are always available for advice (and sharing adorable pictures).

The application process is extremely tedious, even more so if you wanna foster. I don’t know what these people were thinking when they put up these requirements.“Let’s make people jump through hoops!”

You need to pay the adoption fee plus the training fee🤦‍♀️ no, I do not recommend this rescue.

Ive been looking for a good local rescue organization and KK9R is the best lve found! they are very active, responsible and responsive to application and inquiries. Often times, you see organizations with adoptable animal pictures asking for application, after you submit lengthy application, often you dont hear from them, and animal is no longer available. And since application is needed for each specific animal, you have to go through the process all over again.KK9R is different; they ask for your application to vet you. You can apply for particular animal or general to get approved. They are very thorough about vetting applicants and very responsive. Then, after you get pre-approved, you can visit the animals. Which makes the process more streamlined and efficient. They do great work with local rescues as well as oversea rescues; particularly from south korea. The dogs are adorable and great quality. Some dogs are rescues from puppy mills, that sells to pet shops. They are also very honest about medical history of the dogs, and what to expect. After adoption, they also do follow ups.Spead the word if anyone is looking for furbaby!

They are non-profit rescue organization. Truly done so many amazing jobs. They may be late on responses on your standards its only because they are short handed. So please, be kind to who are working hard to change the world and save more lives. Thank you K9 Rescue team, to save thousands of lives and found them new forever home.

We adopted Cayambe (previously Fommy) 9 months ago and are so thrilled that shes a part of our family now. She joined us and our bulldog mix Vesuvius in our home and has blossomed into an outgoing, loving dog. When we first got her, she was fearful of us and new people, but she has over the months, opened up and now greets new people with confidence.Weve been able to build a relationship of trust with her and are now in a place where shes able to run around in the forest with her dog friends off-leash to explore the woods and swim in creeks. We cant thank Korean K9 enough for their thoughtful, robust process of vetting, and training us to make a safe and welcoming home for her so that she can build a new life with us with ease. Their process vets out those who would not be able to provide the safety, structure, and care that these dogs need - its so appreciated now that we look back! Caya has come such a long way, but at the end of the day, we know that she is still learning and growing from her trauma and are so glad the KK9R prepared us for this journey.Highly recommend KK9R and the system they rigorously abide by to give these dogs a great home.
